Guest Reviews
- India (10/5): - Fantastic getaway, loved the pub dinners, the local shops and the beach views are gorgeous. Everything you could want is in walking distance. The room didn't stock toothpaste
- Danean (6/5): Does the job - Clean None
- Caroline (9/5): -
- Brian (6/5): Transit stop to catch ferry at Queenscliffe to Sorrento for golf -
- Nicole (8/5): - Staff were great for any requests made
- Champness (3/5): Unless you are a Polar Bear don't go unless the sun is shining - Room was freezing
Heater didn't work
Found another tiny heater room still freezing
TV remote missing
- Annie (2/5): As above - We were not aware there was breakfast. The room was very disappointing (room 5). It was right out side generators and so it was very noisy and a very distressing view. The room was very small with little space to move around and it was cold. I’m aware that the accommodation at your hotel is old and having stayed there before I wasn’t expecting anything modern. We enjoyed our stay a couple of years ago. However this room was not pleasant at all. It should not be used for guests. The bistro was lovely and the food was lovely and the service was excellent. We were simply shocked at the room which was not really shown in its true form on the internet. We had intended to extend our stay before we checked in. Unfortunately we were not prepared to spend our money on that room for another night.
Perhaps let people know that the room is almost a broom cupboard size with only generators to look out at. If we don’t give this feed back then you won’t know. Next time we will ask for a better room. Thank you.
- Benjamin (9/5): :) I’d recommend this place and I’d stay here again. - Location was perfect for what we need would stay there again. :) Beds felt old and needing a flip
- Ricky (7/5): Staff were great, location was perfect and a comfortable place at stay. - Its location. It was so close to the places I needed to be at. N/A
- Liza (10/5): -
- Luca (8/5): - Good value for money On top of a very active restaurant/pub/karaoke. They do inform you upon booking, but it gets noisy over the weekend
- Jennifer (10/5): -
- ESTELLE (7/5): -
- John (7/5): - Noise through the night of what I guess was air conditioning and machinery turning on & off
- Luda (9/5): - The place was really spacious as the hotel itself was properly built in the 19th century-high ceilings, big rooms, etc.
Also the view from the terrace is superb.
- Peter (4/5): Would not stay on a Saturday night again - Dinner in the bitro was very good, staff were great. Band played till 9.30, then the thumping club music went till 1.30am. It was very loud in our room, making it impossible to sleep.
- Tom (8/5): Wonderful - Very good No tv remote in room
- Mary (5/5): Room was neat and facilities adequate for economy accommodation. Too noisy to sleep though. - The rooms were fine and typical of basic old pub accommodation. Hotel nicely located near the water. The bed was rather short for my height. I had a totally sleepless night due to the room being located right near the pub loud compressor or generator. If I was to stay again for work, I would totally avoid booking one of the internal view rooms. I'm assuming that the sea view rooms would be furthest away from the hotel generator.
- Tay (6/5): -
- Eloise (7/5): -
- Michelle (6/5): Happy with the room - We wernt able to come in till late and had a key so was able to get comfortable Nothing
- Patrick (9/5): - The location was excellent. The room was spacious with enough beds. View of the Barwon River made our stay even more special. The hotel pub restaurant was also likeable serving a wide variety of food. The window panel was dusty and hard to raise up.
- Jessica (7/5): Great location and friendly staff! - Location was fantastic for the wedding across the road at On the Heads. Rooms are basic but it was fine. They have everything you could need.
- Elizabeth (7/5): Good pub accommodation - It was just as described and very comfortable Nothing
- Rob (6/5): Nice space to get to bed quickly if you have seen a band at the hotel. - The location was excellent, especially as we were seeing a band at the Barwon Heads Hotel. Facilities were simple, but neat and clean. Bathroom needs a refresh, and it is a challenging facility for people with mobility issues. Limited access to an elevator, lots of doors, and tight corridors.
- Malcolm (7/5): Acceptable, great location. - Great location, good value for money. Small rooms, a bit tired but for a one night stay was fine.
- Libby (8/5): Had a lovely stay. Thanks - View from room.
- 0c095e262d5c721216b957fbe59c0be8 (8/5): No regrets. - The staff were friendly and helpful easy access to rooms, clean and tidy. bed was comfortable
- d984228b32b371a5c4f676ed140e55f6 (9/5): - Great location and close to everything needed. Room was quite large and had its own bathroom facilities- great stay.
- a3779b68667673ff180963f97349e0b8 (10/5): Welcoming - Staff very welcoming and attentive

- 356b6a4084ad72cafea1aed9f1b5ef90 (1/5): EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING - CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS PROPERTY AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Cant say coz we didn’t get to enjoy our booking!!!!! No one available to check us in upon arrival - had to book alternative accommodation at an additional $302 per nite - NOT HAPPY AT ALL!!!!! Now out of pocket all up approx $500 for a stay that was originally booked and confirmed for $114!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please do not book this property if you are arriving after 9pm as there will be NO ONE AVAILABLE TO EVEN ASSIST YOU LET ALONE CHECK U IN!!!!!!!!! Booking.com will happily confirm your booking and take payment immediately but you will end up having to book another property or sleep in your car if you are low on $$. Not a pleasant or ideal situation AT ALL. PERIOD. I am still waiting for a return phone call from 11:10am this morning when I was PROMISED a phone call back within the “next 5 minutes”!!!!!!!!! Long 5 mins when it is now 25 mins and I am still waiting for said phone call!!!!!!!!! No understanding of customer service AT ALL - EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN STAFF AT BARWON HEADS HOTEL!!!!!! They don’t even have an option on their automated answering service for accommodation - DO THEY EVEN HAVE ROOMS AT ALL?????!!!!!!!!
- bb4ebbc425dd734166ef1566d2780858 (5/5): I do not recommend - It was cheap Noisy in the evenings and they tell you that it is very noisy only after you pay non-refundable price. Hotel is old, sheets were with holes and overall very outdated feeling. lights were super dim int he room. Ocean view for which we paid extra 20 euros is a joke because it is mainly the road and a little bit of water.
- 5236f85c2feb70d6e9adb20ee794abe5 (10/5): We had a great stay after seeing a band here at the hotel. Staff very professional and helpful. - I didn't have breakfast here. We had dinner and the food was very good. Everything was great.

- Elizabeth (8/5): -
- Chee (9/5): Very comfortable stay . - Competitive pricing, good location. Nice shower A bit dated , but it’s reflected in the price.
- Robert (8/5): Very comfortable. - Clean and quite a comfortable bed Probably need to get rid of the pigeons cooing out side my window. They are cute but noisy.
- Moore (10/5): -
- steven (9/5): -

- Kellie (10/5): -
- Rod (8/5): I'll return - Staff very pleasant, frienly, keen to help, no bother Stairs have the wrong pitch on them, but not really a problem.
- Martin (9/5): - Fantastic Location Room was suitable for what i needed
- Kate (9/5): -
- Albone (7/5): -
- Michael (10/5): - Central to a lot of golf courses
- Daria (6/5): OK for one night - Very clean Old, not comfortable and not cozy
- Debra (7/5): -
- Sage (4/5): The surrounding nature spots are stunning. - Spacious accommodation.
Shower water pressure.
Staff. Noise- from pre 5am till late, regardless of night. Exposed balcony looking onto incoming traffic w a bright light on at night that there was no option to switch off, (and it’s not stated that this is a shared balcony), sticky carpets, dust/musty/mouldy smell, no screens on windows.
- Garth (8/5): -
- Andrews (8/5): Easy check in, friendly staff in a great locatoin. - Great location. Quiet around town as it was mid week. As the accomodation was on the second floor. Could smell the Kitchen and there was a fan on the roof makin noise the entire time.
- Alexandra (10/5): - Super friendly staff - perfect location!
- Kevin (8/5): -
- Wah Tim (7/5): -
- Karen (8/5): Clean, affordable, free wifi... - Fantastic Location, walking distance to the beach and main shopping strip. Clean, well maintained affordable accommodation. Good Value for the price. Free Wifi and Free parking at the pub. A little noisy at night, but expected as you are on top of a pub that has weekend gigs till 1am. The venue does warn of this, but it wasn't a problem for us. Some complain about the bathroom size, but it was fine for us, yes small but clean and everything you need is provided.
- Mary (9/5): Good value for money, convenient location. Would recommend it and would stay again. - Convenient location, walking distance to the local shops. Large room, a little dated, but clean and tidy. Bed was comfortable. Hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. Food at the pub was great. Nothing. Just be wary that our room had no air-conditioning, so could be quite warm on a hot day. Did have a ceiling fan though.
- Lana (1/5): Poor - Not much Poor customer service at hotel
Terrible food
Room horrendous
Loud music till 1230am, not told till checkin, too late to go elsewhere
Hotel old, rooms even older, needs a refresh
- Pete (8/5): A tidy pub stay - Traditional pub accommodation above the bars. They warned us a couple of times prior to staying about the potential noise.
We didn't find it too bad and the room was comfortable and cosy.
- Julie (7/5): Pleasant stay - The location is excellent and the rooms and beds are comfy and very clean. The view from our room was beautiful and great dinner downstairs. No air con, but the ceiling fans are great! Shower was the best shower I think I've ever had! Really lovely staff. This is not something that the property can change, but the walls are paper thin. You can literally hear everything next door. I think the only thing they could do would be to try and space out the visitors, so that there are rooms inbetween if possible, or even let you know before you go so that you can change your room type, so that you are not staying next to someone else. We could hear every conversation and the tv until midnight when the person went to sleep.
- Adam (8/5): Classic, lively pub, for a night of rock and roll. - Staff were super friendly and welcoming, check-in was easy. We came to Barwon Heads Hotel for a concert in the downstairs venue, so it was amazing to have a room just upstairs!
- Manfred (10/5): - Best location There was nothing l didn't like
- Randall Boyce (8/5): - Proximity to town centre.⁸⁹⁹I Room was v small & cramped.
- adrian (8/5): What an amazing location - great place to stay - We stayed at the Barwon Heads hotel for just one night - not long enough. They say location is everything and that is certainly true of the Hotel, it is in the most amazing location right opposite the Barwon River and the heads. Walk across the bridge to the other side and onto the ocean beach, or walk up the river towards the bluff. It is simply wonderful to walk out of the hotel, across the road and onto the little river beach - so peaceful. We did not eat the hotel but had a meal at Tommy Gunns which I would also recommend. Our room was tiny but for one night and at the price we paid, it had everything we needed - good hot shower, comfy bed and wifi. Even though it was Friday night, and the hotel had warned up about possible noise, it wasn't noisy in our room at all. And then waking up right in the heart of things. Should have stayed a couple of nights. Asked my wife and she said nothing, it was good. She just remembered one thing - would have been good if a small hairdryer was in the room but apart from that it was all good. Not fancy or large but for the price and the location, very reasonable.
- Aaron (9/5): -
- Hamish (7/5): Does the job - It was what i expected, It isn’t trying to be anything fancy and is comfortable and accessible It was a little stuffy in the rooms
- Carmen (7/5): Only stayed one night - Near the water No secure parking for a motorbike
- Thomas (8/5): - Just a great place with good folk, Beer and chips, And of course a Beautyfull spot.
- Rhonda (8/5): -
- amer (7/5): The room was clean and and in the centre - The location was very good The hotel very old and can smell the old wood
- Jacynta (7/5): -
- Michelle (5/5): Perfect spot but didn’t sleep much. Not due to noise. Bed was very hard. - Location Rock hard bed. Very uncomfortable
- Mullavey (6/5): -
- Bill (7/5): - The location was excellent. The room was basic but spacious and clean and had everything we needed. We only stayed one night as we attended a function nearby and really just slept and showered there. It was Saturday night which was noisy until 1.00 am but we were warned about the noise so it was expected. The staff were helpful and friendly. The beds and pillows were comfortable and the sheets and towels were very good. No complaints.
- Stella (6/5): Great location, simple but has all that you need for a short stay - Location! I had a wedding across the road so it was super convenient! Bed was comfy and room was very spacious. Also i was able to check in early and the staff were friendly! There were a lot of cobwebs (including spiders) around the windows which wasn’t very nice. You could tell the cleaning was only superficial - needs to be properly dusted and deep cleaned. Also the sink in the bathroom was tiny and not very practical.
- Ann (10/5): Brilliant at Barwon Heads Hotel! - Friendly staff, clean room, comfy bed
- Gleyn (5/5): -
- Simo (8/5): Fantastic location and great meal service great staff 😊 - The food and the location No Air-conditioning in rooms
- Tristen (5/5): Poor value but convenience - Location Small room and expensive
- Donazzon (3/5): - The bed was comfortable
It was clean Most places supply snacks and drinks
Unfortunately the basin in the bathroom was narrow and you could hit your head whilst brushing your teeth under the shelving
- Lindsay (7/5): -
- Jennifer (7/5): Overpriced (long weekend rates) for the accomodation provided. - Great location, basic accomodation, at its normal price $114-$135 per night it is good value, however at long weekend rates of $300 per night you are getting very basic and dated accomodation. No designated parking, you had to hope to get a car park in the hotel car park that was always full
- DARREN (8/5): Very positive - Allowed early check in Nil
- Jan (5/5): Very average - The staff … The rooms seriously need Reno’s could here aircon and pigeons all night
