• Shearer (10/5): Perfect guesthouse in reach of the Jinshaling Wall. - I loved how caring the family is who runs this guesthouse. They are always there to help through text messages or taking you in their car. This place was also very clean and had a great roof top area. I included a picture of my breakfast which was made for me at 7:00am and freshly made. There wasn’t much to not like about this guesthouse. Jack (Xiu’s Husband) was always welcoming to help, for example on my great wall hike, Jack drove me to the entrance and told me an exact route to take, aswell as helping me buy an entrance ticket. I also got lifts to the Gubeikou train station having checked out hours before. Xiu’s english is very good and she makes great food. This guest house exceeds my expectations in terms of comfort, care, privacy and service. I had a great time
• Dieteke Sharma (10/5): - This is literally the best place to stay ever. Jack and Xiu are sooo nice and funny. They help you with getting to the wall, making amazing food (also vegetarian!) and are amazing singers ;). The rooms are very beautiful, spacious and clean. The vibe of the town is really cool as well! I could've stayed here much longer, but definitely worth to stay two nights for the Jinshanling to Gubeikou hike. The Gubeikou wall feels really special and ancient. One of the best days ever. Hope to come back here again one day soon! Thank you :)
• Melissa (10/5): Staying with Xiu and Jack and hiking the Wall here was truly a once in a lifetime experience. - The guesthouse was beautiful! The location was amazing and I cannot say enough good things about Xiu and Jack. They go above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable. Xiu cooked delicious dinners every night and Jack was waiting for me at the train station when I arrived. They took turns dropping me off and picking me up for hikes, walked me in the visitor center to help me buy tickets, and hosted karaoke parties at night. They were warm and welcoming and absolutely wonderful. I loved the property.

• Alice (10/5): Lovely guesthome ! - We had a really nice time at Xiu and Jack's house. Everything was clean and cosy, but most of all, Xiu and Jack were very friendly and helpful. They gave us advices and helped us with many things. The location is great too, a few kilometers from an incredible spot of the wall. We recommend !

• Megan (9/5): A wonderful stay with excellent dinners! - This is a small courtyard house that is clean and very comfortable in a beautiful village. It is picturesque and quiet and in the evening many locals are strolling around or elderly people working in the fields. Access is easy by train from Beijing north station and Jack and Xiu (Maggie) were lovely hosts. They are excellent cooks and the dinner was delicious. Maggie also made us sandwiches to take up to the wall. We walked around 7km with the children, a great day at the Great Wall! Jack is an excellent singer and the kids enjoyed karaoke with him and playing cards. They wanted to stay longer. A really special experience in China.

• Patrick (9/5): Niet twijfelen: hier logeren! - De gastheer en gastvrouw zijn constant ten dienste van de gasten. Ze halen je af en zetten je terug af aan het treinstation. Daarnaast kookt de gastvrouw heerlijk. De gastheer fungeert ook als gids die je tot aan de muur brengt en terug komt afhalen op de plaats waar je van de muur komt. Absolute aanrader!

• Jonathan (10/5): Perfect experience at the Great Wall of China - We had a wonderful stay at this guesthouse. The location is great, with a direct view of the Great Wall. The hosts were very kind and helpful, and we always felt well taken care of. A special highlight was the transfer in a comfortable minibus with massage seats, which was especially nice before our long flight home. Jinshanling is considered one of the most beautiful sections of the Great Wall, and Jack drove us right to the entrance, helped with the tickets, and picked us up on time afterwards. You arrive as a guest and leave feeling like a friend and part of the family. Jack and Shu are absolutely lovely people, so warm, kind, and genuinely caring. Communication was always easy, and they were endlessly helpful with everything. The room is spotless, super clean, and you can tell that every little detail has been thoughtfully taken care of. And the sandwiches… honestly, out of this world. I first stayed alone in September and loved it so much that I came back in January with my mom. She has some mobility issues, and Jack went completely out of his way to help her at the Great Wall, even assisting her on the stairs. It meant so much to us and says everything about the kind of person he is. Shu is just as wonderful. I truly love this place and the people who run it. Staying here feels special, personal, and unforgettable. I will definitely be back soon — again and again.

Jack is born and raised in the city and knows everything about it and the Great Wall, so he guided me a lot on what hiking route to do. Facilities are in new condition and really clean. Nice rooftop with view to the wall and a beautiful sunset I liked it so much that I extended my stay from two to three nights. Would definitely recommend this to anyone! I liked it all

From the hosts to the food, location to design of the rooms, building and cleanliness, this guesthome really is worth the money. You feel so welcome and safe at this place, the hosts will drive you to and from the train station and great wall (for a small fee) and will treat you brilliantly. The cooking is excellent, with lots of veggies (and meat) that are particularly appreciable in China. Jack helped us to bring us to the great wall and he and his wife gave us very good tips. And +1 point for the karaoke in the evening 😍

The guest home was so comfortable and convenient for what I wanted to do. The service could not be beaten. I was looked after from the moment I arrived until I departed 3 days later. Dinners were delicious, village life was interesting, wonderful for a stroll and of course I was driven to the Great Wall and Gubei Water Town by my hosts. Just all round 10/10 hospitality. A real highlight of my China visit!

• Sarah (10/5): Die perfekte Unterkunft an der chinesischen Mauer! - Die Unterkunft von Xiu und Jack ist der beste Ausgangspunkt für einen Besuch der chinesischen Mauer! Sie sind die liebsten Gastgeber, die man sich vorstellen kann! Sie haben uns vom Bahnhof abgeholt, spontan zum Sonnenuntergang an der Mauer gefahren, unsere Mauerwanderung organisiert und uns am Ende auch ein Taxi zum Flughafen vermittelt. Beide sind unglaublich herzlich, offen und aufmerksam und gestalten den Aufenthalt in der schönen und sauberen Unterkunft so angenehm wie möglich. Das Essen von Xiu war köstlich und die Karaokesession sowie die schönen Gespräche am Abend waren toll. Bei Xiu und Jack zu Hause fühlt man sich sofort wie bei Freunden. Wir wären sehr gerne länger geblieben und wollen auf jeden Fall wiederkommen. Vielen Dank für alles!

Notre chambre était encore mieux que sur les photos, lit super confort, salle de bain pratique et propre, décoration très soignée. La muraille de Jinshanling est magnifique et se trouve à quelques minutes en voiture de la maison ( 10-15 minutes, les hotes peuvent vous y déposer, ou vous pouvez prendre un didi, tout fonctionne tres bien ! ). I proprietari, Jack e sua moglie, sono due persone squisite ed incredibilmente accoglienti: a fronte di una cifra irrisoria, sono venuti a prenderci in stazione ferroviaria, ci hanno cucinato una cena ed una colazione deliziose ed hanno organizzato un divertentissimo karaoke con gli altri ospiti. Inoltre ci hanno assistito nell'acquisto dei biglietti per la parte meno turistica e frequentata della Muraglia Cinese. Abbiamo anche avuto un disguido con il treno di rientro a Pechino ed hanno organizzato un trasferimento in taxi privato. Le camere sono finemente arredate, con gusto semplice e rilassante, così come il resto della piccola struttura. Si respira un'atmosfera conviviale, perfetta per una pausa dalla città. Niente, era tutto perfetto.

La maison est magnifique, la nourriture délicieuse, la chambre propre et confortable. Jack nous a permis de rentabiliser au maximum nos 3 jours sur place en nous amenant à différents endroits de la muraille et dans les petits villages autour. Sans oublier les soirées karaoké et le lever du soleil sur la muraille en très bonne compagnie ! De beaux souvenirs garantis ! Rien. Tout était parfait.

Vi følte os hjemme. De kørte os ud til til den kinesiske mur og viste os andre skønne steder. Vi fik lækkert mad. I selvskab med deres familie. Vi fik prøvet traditionelt kinesisk mad. Vi fik meget mere end den kinesiske mur hos dem. Det var en kæmpe oplevelse at bo hos dem. Både turen til køkkenhaven, spisning sammen med familien, de diskede op med is, frugt og grønt vi skulle prøve smage, og ikke mindst deres humør. Især Jack. Vi vil gerne tilbage bare for at være sammen med Xiu og Jack igen.

I warmly recommend you to visit them. And the Great Wall close by is pretty cool to walk on. Also, excellent food prepared by Sue!!

• Kitty (10/5): - Terwijl we hier waren werd het code rood wegens hevige regen en overstromingen in de regio, onze gastheer en vrouw hebben van alles geregeld om ons toch van de Chinese Muur te laten genieten en ons veilig van en weer naar Beijing te vervoeren aangezien alle treinen waren uitgevallen. Het was een indrukwekkende ervaring. Ze waren zeer hartelijk en hebben heerlijk eten voor ons bereid. De karaoke avond gaan we ook niet snel vergeten.

Excellent roof terrace for sitting with a view and nice place to watch people go by/ the sunset. Nice living room space for karaoke. Very delicious food for breakfast with the freshest vegetables. You can also request dinner which is also outstanding home-cooking - best tofu ever! The hosts are very lovely people and will give you watermelon and ice creams after a long day of hiking. They helped us get a taxi to our next destination and drove us to the ticket gate for the wall/ and nearby Watertown. Very kind and lovely. Incredible value for money for a very very lovely place!
• Olaf (10/5): - Amazing place to visit the great wall from! Owners pick you up from the station and to the wall (for a charge of course) and will make sure you have the best experience. We were lucky enough to experience the "cloud sea" on the wall and the owners made sure we could even visit the wall before it was officially open. Very good experience!
• Jade (10/5): The best hosts we have ever had! - Xue and Jack were the best hosts we have ever had! They were so attentive: contacting us before our arrival, offering us free shuttle service to and from the train station, and giving us guidance on what to do while we were there (Jack even helped us buy tickets and get to the start of the Great Wall walk)! We also had some fantastic food while staying with them. Do not bother eating anywhere else! It is a little remote, so you will need Jack to drive you if you need to go anywhere. He offers this for a very reasonable price, though!

• Marcos (10/5): Best place to stay in Gubeikou - Excellent hosts. Welcoming, helpful plus the food was always delicious. The rooms were clean and comfortable. They have a small adorable inner garden. At night there is karaoke! And it is always a good time. As you can imagine the host are good singers too. Visiting The Great Wall was a great experience but our stay here made our visit even better. If you have the time I would recommend staying more than one night if you arrive in the afternoon and are planning to walk entire sections of The Wall (Jinshanling + Gubeikou). So you don’t have to worry about making it back in time for the train. Also don’t underestimate the summer heat if that is the season you are traveling in. Listen to the host’s recommendations, they have your best interest at heart. There is nothing negative about this place.

Sei es der Besuch der Gubeikou Watertown, sei es ein Besuch der Great Wall - die Gastgeber standen mit Rat und Tat (und Transfer) sehr behilflich zur Seite. Das Hostel ist ein sehr charmanter, sehr gepflegter Ort, wo sich auch gut essen und trinken lässt. Absolute Empfehlung, vielen Dank für alles.

• JORIS (10/5): - Bij deze gastheer en gastvrouw word je behandeld als familie. Ze doen alles voor je, willen je ophalen van en brengen naar het treinstation. Brengen en je voor een redelijke prijs naar de muur en staan klaar om je weer op te halen wanneer je klaar bent met de hike. Serveren echt een heerlijk ontbijt en het lekkerste diner dat we gegeten hebben tijdens onze 2 weken durende trip in China. Ze maken van je reis een vakantie, waarbij ze je helpen met alles. Geven advies over welke route je het beste kunt lopen en rijden voor de start van de hike eerst met je langs de lokale supermarkt. Deze locatie is de perfecte uitvalsbasis richting het mooiste en rustigste deel van de muur! Je kunt niet meer wensen. Kleinschalige accommodatie, boven verwachting goede service met een mooie prijs kwaliteit verhouding. 10+/10
• Tristan (10/5): Geweldig! - Jack & Xiu zijn de gastvrijste hostes die ik ooit heb gehad! Ze denken graag mee over je bezoek aan de Chinese muur. Daarnaast kan Xiu ook echt gigantisch goed koken, meer dan de moeite waard om het te proberen! Ik ga deze plek, mede door de overnachting en Jack & Xiu, nooit meer vergeten.

It’s a great place near the Great Wall and to experience a sense of quiet China mainland. We ate fresh vegetables from their garden, and they made us very nice breakfast. This place is a winner, and the couple that run it are the best! There was really nothing I didn’t like.

They will take you up on a hike to the Great Wall (actual professional guide) as well as they will cook an amazing, home style Chinese dinner with the warmth of a family gathering. You can join the hosts for a Karaoke night, if you feel in the mood. There is absolutely nothing to complain about the place is extremely clean, tidy, new, functional. There's always an opportunity to meet other great travelers. Highly recommend , food is great. Hosts are really warm and welcoming.

Ik werd van het treinstation gehaald, rond 4:00u naar de muur gebracht voor zonsopkomst en weer opgehaald. Het eten was heerlijk. Communiceren in het Engels of met een vertaalapp ging makkelijk. Alles was goed verzorgd en hygiënisch. -

They not only picked me from the train station, but also provided suggestions and guidance on how to climb the Great Wall, where to start and helped me arrange transport. • Ivonne (10/5): 10/10 STAY. EXCEEDED ALL MY EXPECTATIONS! - This place was an absolute dream! From the moment we arrived, the hosts made us feel so welcome like we were visiting old friends. They were incredibly kind, always ready to help, and truly went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. The location was spot-on, and the place itself? Adorable! It’s been recently renovated, so everything felt fresh, sparkling clean, and super cozy. You can tell a lot of love went into the design. Host helped with transportation, gave us great tips on what to do in the area, and—best of all—served home-cooked meals. I have to confess… after two weeks in China, the best food I had was right here. Su’s cooking is chef’s kiss — absolutely unforgettable. I already miss it so much! 🥹💛 At night, they had karaoke sessions that made everything feel even more fun and homey! The other guests were so friendly and lovely. If you’re thinking of staying here, do it. It’s a little slice of magic.

• Clara (10/5): Accogliente e delizioso - Vorrei iniziare dicendo che l’accoglienza fatta da Shu, la proprietaria e‘ stata all’insegna del sorriso che magicamente ci ha contagiati tutti. Gentilezza superba. La struttura è nuova, funzionale e molto accessoriata. La cena preparata da Jack, il marito, e da lei e‘ stata veramente memorabile. Ottime e fresche verdure, carne e pesce. Loro hanno cenato insieme a noi creando un clima veramente familiare. Dalla terrazza della casa si può vedere un bellissimo Skyline di un pezzo di muraglia cinese. Il villaggio ha un fiume e una storia molto antica e simbolica. La sera dopo cena Jack e Shu, nel living, ci hanno coinvolto in una cantata collettiva creando un clima veramente unico, fatto di allegria e risate. Un posto da consigliare per coloro che vogliono scappare dalla confusione e dal rumore delle grandi città. C’è silenzio, armonia e un atmosfera pacifica e tranquilla. I prezzi praticati sono accessibili e alla portata di tutti. Un pezzo di Cina che ci resterà nella memoria. Consigliato per chi viaggia senza essere turisti frettolosi.

• Elodie (10/5): - Le couple est adorable, hyper réactif et aux petits soins. Ils donnent des conseils, peuvent vous aider pour un taxi si besoin et peuvent vous emmener à la muraille. La maison est très chaleureuse, bien décoré et super propre. Elle se situe dans un jolie petit village près de la muraille, loin de la foule. Je vous conseil d'accepter le repas qu'ils proposent, pour vous régaler et partager un moment avec eux.
• Ina (10/5): Great family in a super nice housing- best hosts ever! - Both the owners were exceptionally friendly and helpful. I already experienced a lot of nice hosts, but this couple is really outstanding! We loved their sense of humour and laughed a lot together - including at the village’s hairdresser ;) The house is nicely done, furbished with great taste, there was a really good bed and a good working shower in the cute little bathroom. We were allowed to use the family’s living room or patio and felt welcome like at home in this family. We would always come back! Everything was fine! You just have to know that you’re kind of in the middle of nowhere and that you need a car for every move outside the village. Jack was always ready to get us where we wanted to go, a bit cheaper than the ordinary taxi. But through him we learned about the “Musical Road” and he also took us to an intimate place of the Great Wall at sunset which was just great.

She can cook really delicious and he can help you with the transportation around, knowing perfectly the surroundings, you can win a lot of time, and visit a lot, even catch the sunrise on the Great Wall which is for sure unique and only with a local can be done. I stayed only one night but felt as it was a week. Perfectly planned with the help of both of them. Thanks a lot for everything!! Rooms are super spacious and newly renovated. Bed super confortabile. Hot water at your disposal, towels, slippers, everything u need. Perfect.

They were incredibly accommodating with a late check out as well as helping us with our transfer from Beijing and to Mutianyu! I would definitely recommend this homestay!
• annick (10/5): - La maison d'hôtes est composée de 4 chambres. Les gérants vous accueillent a la gare et vous installent. Ils proposent le petit déjeuner et le repas du soir qui est très consistant, les produits sont frais et proviennent des champs voisins . Le couple organisent votre transfert au départ de la randonnée sur la muraille. Le site est vraiment très bien conservé avec peu de touristes c'est appréciable et mérite les 2h30 de train depuis pekin. Les gérants sont un couple très avenant qui proposent des soirées karaoké géniales. Depuis l'auberge vous pouvez aussi faire une balade le long de la rivière bien aménagée. Je recommande vraiment et surtout passez y 2 nuits pour vous reposer et profiter de l'accueil.

• Abigail (10/5): Amazing🩵 - This homestay is by far my favourite place I’ve stayed in China. As a solo traveller it felt so nice to be in a family environment and feel at home. They make such an effort to be friendly and chat and I couldn’t have had a better time! They arranged everything for me and made breakfast and dinner which was all delicious! The rooms are also so nice and was a lovely place to relax after a day of hiking. The parts of the wall you can go to are also so so beautiful and so quiet if you are visiting the Great Wall I don’t think you could visit anywhere better than here! They also drop you off and pick you up and are available if you need any help. They are such fun and kind people and I was so sad to leave! Hope to be back one day to visit in the summer time :)

• Callie (10/5): Best accommodation near the Great Wall - Wish we could stay longer ❤️ If you can’t decide where to stay near the Great Wall pick this place! Right near Gubeikou train station. Close to Jinshanling and other less busy sections of the wall. With the hosts knowledge we were often the only people on the wall. The place is beautifully designed and rooms are modern and spotless clean. We had so many laughs and great conversations. They will help with anything you need. It’s close to Gubeikou town where there are a couple restaurants but the hosts make such delicious food in-house at a very reasonable price. Thank you and we hope to be back in summer next time 🙏🏼🙏🏼
• Andrew (10/5): Amazing boutique hostel providing a first class authentic Great Wall experience. - Accommodation is amazing, truly boutique hostel. Hosts offer everything you could possibly want or need - from collecting at the station to fantastic breakfasts/evening meals and freshly brewed coffee as well! In terms of visiting the wall you will get the very best authentic experience including drop offs and pick ups, sunrise/sunset walks or be left alone to be totally independent. One of the very places I’ve been lucky enough to stay in. Yay. Nothing!
• Lily (10/5): - I never leave reviews but this guesthouse deserves every good word to be written about them. Xiu and Jack make you feel so at home during your stay and genuinely enjoy getting to know each guest. They kindly upgraded my room free of charge as I was the only guest at the time. The rooms are clean, modern, and are well designed for your needs. Xiu makes wonderful Chinese dishes for breakfast and dinner. They offer taxiing services around the local area, which is reliable and affordable. In the evenings, we did karaoke together in their living room, with myself singing English songs whilst they sang Chinese songs. Although English communication was limited, translate apps greatly helped so it was not an issue. I would consider this kind couple to be more than just owners of a guesthouse, but as friends. I have been travelling for 6 months and have not experienced this level of hospitality at any other establishment, which is high praise from a traveller like myself. I very much enjoyed my time here and will be a fond memory of my entire trip. I hope to visit again someday and bring others too. Maybe next time I come I’ll try to wake up early enough to see the sunrise at the Great Wall !!!!

They arranged my time and helped me get the most out of my trip here. They drove me to the water town, the Jinshanling Great Wall and dropped me back to Beijing. • Hong (10/5): - It was a great stay - room is tydy and comfy with good taste and well thought details. Big capacity water heater ensures a good hot shower, good quality shampoo and shower cream are provided, along with other essential utensils: tooth brushes and paste, shower slippers and room slippers, towels, intelligent toilet etc. Good equality beddings guarantee a good night of sleep. The owner couple are friendly and caring. Transportation can be arranged if you wan to visit JinShanLing greatwall. Last but not the least, the food is homy and yummy. Overall it was a pleasant stay and we will come back. Just that the duvet is a bit heavy for me, but it could be preferred for others.

The room was very comfortable and beautifully decorated, but it was the owners who made my stay so unforgettable. They helped with transport to/from the Great Wall, even when I wanted to leave early in the morning, and cooked delicious food too! I would highly recommend their home to anyone visiting gubeikou.

They arranged transport for us to do our treks at different sections of the great wall. The weather was not in our favour on the first day but we enjoyed the good company and friendly conversation over many cups of tea. Our beds were also comfortable, and it was convenient to have attached toilet with good supply of hot water. There are not many food options around but we purchased very delicious meals and ate at the Guesthouse. Overall we were very pleased with our stay.

Le monsieur très gentil, m'a carrément emmener le matin pour que je puisse voir le lever de soleil sur la muraille et puis il est revenue me chercher quelque heures après pour m'emmener à la gare (il m'a même offre le repas alors que je voulais payer). On a beaucoup rigoler alors que je parlais près peu anglais. Il est impératif si vous voulez avoir une expérience humaine enrichissante et inoubliable ! Merci encore pour tout.
