Mark (10/5): Friendly and extremely well run establishment with a family atmosphere surrounded by nature. - Very well organised. Very good food including freshly beaked bread and cookies/cakes backed daily. Very friendly helpful staff. Family atmosphere with staff and guests. Surrounded by nature with so may birds. Lovely viewing platform with telescopes. Each cabin positioned for privacy and nature views.

Johnny sempre sorrindo e dando as melhores dicas da região, explicou sobre os animais que avistávamos pela propriedade e fez o planejamento perfeito dos passeios pela região. Miguel muito solicito e agradável. As mulheres maravilhosas da cozinha com seu ótimo tempero e sorrisos no rosto, junto com os meninos que nos atenderam com muita simpatia. Saímos de Drake Bay ja querendo voltar!

Nous avons beaucoup apprécié les repas, partagés chaque soir en compagnie des autres vacanciers, dans une ambiance conviviale. La cuisine est de qualité et les plats sont très bons. De plus, Johnny a été particulièrement accueillant et chaleureux.
Susanne (8/5): Die Umgebung ist wunderschön, die Terrasse lädt zum verweilen ein & das Personal ist sehr zuvorkommend. - Sie Lage ist etwas außerhalb des Zentrums etwa 20 Minuten Fußweg vom Strand, dafür ist man direkt im grünen und kann von der Terrasse aus die verschiedensten Tiere beobachten. Auch wenn es toll ist keine Fenster zu haben, sodass man mit Vogelgezwitscher im Ohr aufwacht, muss man bedenken, dass die Feuchtigkeit und Hitze dadurch in die Unterkunft zieht. Zudem ist es doch sehr preisintensiv im Vergleich zu anderen Unterkünften in der nebensaison.

Körner (9/5): - Die Unterkunft ist Traumhaft. Die Zimmer lassen keine Wünsche offen und beim Ausblick von der Terasse kann man viele Vögel beobachten. Jonny und Miguel sind sehr herzliche und naturverbundene Gastgeber. Frühstück und Abendessen waren sehr lecker. Das Zusammensitzen mit den anderen Gästen beim Essen war besonders schön. So fand ein reger Austausch statt und es gab viele lustige Gespräche. Laut Buchung bei Booking war Frühstück inbegriffen, das tauchte auf der Rechnung jedoch nicht auf, sodass wir fürs Frühstück noch zahlen mussten. Da hätten wir besser aufpassen sollen .
Emily (3/5): Beware - Nice gardens 1. While the hotel liberally advertised they accept card, they only accept card in colones. So if you have pre-booked in USD terms, the exchange rate applied by the hotel will be unfair to say the least. Expect to pay at least 10% more. 2. There is no air conditioning in the room or communal area making sleep almost impossible. 3. It is not convenient for eating in town the hill back is steep and dark or you will need a car or taxi.
Trieu (10/5): You can have a taste of both, quiet nature and a bit of lively atmosphere nearby at Finca Maresia - This was the best stay we had in Costa Rica so far. Emilio, Johnny and the team are wonderful and helpful, they made us feel very welcome. We were able to catch birds flying and sitting on trees from the main reception/common area (which was very well designed to overlook the whole area), the cabins and when walking around the property. It is located outside of Drake Bay, 20min by foot. The best walk/hike we did was to the beach of Cocalito where we had the beach for ourselves for a while. While you can have dinner at Finca Maresia, we decided to go to the village twice and getting back at night meant either a stroll through absolute darkness or pre ordering a taxi/car. Note that the path way to Drake bay and beach is okay with good hiking shoes.

Seul bémol : nous avons pris une chambre sans clim et le ventilateur au plafond ne suffisait pas avec la moustiquaire.

It is a beautiful collection of individual cottage-rooms with a main area for meals and relaxing (and watching birds!). We had delicious breakfasts and dinners with companions from all over the world. The staff was fantastic, especially Jonny and Emilio who handled all our needs. Nothing, it was perfect.

If you want they Book you tours and organize everything you need (you don‘t have to book your tours before you arrive). The place is wonderful. You see and hear many birds and if you‘re lucky other animals. The meals are very fine :) we recommend breakfeast and dinner at Finca Maresia. José (10/5): Mi mejor estancia en Costa Rica - Si estáis valorando más opciones de alojamiento no lo penséis más, finca Maresia tiene todo lo que estáis buscando, limpio y ordenado, te ofrecen desayunos y cenas geniales para no tener que desplazarte, y la opción de realizar tours a Corcovado, isla del Caño… Personal servicial y amable, en un enclave excepcional rodeado de jungla y con un jardín precioso. En la finca podrás divisar numerosas aves como guacamayos, colibríes, tucanes… Si llegas en barco, te hacen el traslado al hotel, y también a los tours.

Peggy (10/5): Exceptional - We got an outstanding warmhearted service which we never had during 4 weeks of travelling anywhere else. Started with a very lovely greeting from Jonny with an upgrade cause of low season, and a great explanation of the place and the room (for the ladies the luggage is caried 😊). We loved every single detail in this place, the public terrace from where you have an outstanding view over the lovely garden where often tucans and other birds can be seen and where you can have a free coffee any time and relax, or your own Balcony where can enjoy in the hammocks. We especially loved the dogs the Grandpa Simba and the cuddly Greta ❤️ Special thanks goes out to Emilio, who was around for any problem for us solving it with his spanish friendly smile, without taking extra money and seeing it as a kind of service just to make his guests happy. We felt like being surrounded by friends not just only in a resort. Don't book anywhere else just go to that special place and you will leave with a big smile. This is what we were searching for 🙏

Miguel and his team were very kind and helpful. They helped with everything! We had a great experience and we extended our stay by two nights as we couldn’t leave :) Oh, the food also was amazing! Natalia (10/5): Exceptional | Unique | Paradise - There are many reasons that makes this place so special and exceptional but it all starts with the hospitality of Emilio and Tony and how they pay attention to every little detail to make your stay amazing. The place is gorgeous - it’s like a paradise, where you can relax listening and watching different animals while enjoying a homemade cookies on the terrace. It’s also beautifully designed and very functional. We were supposed to stay for 1 day but extended the stay for few more days and honestly, Finaca Maresia is one of the reasons why this part of Costa Rica was the one we loved the most during our trip. The common patio is a paradise for bird-watching, as indeed are the individual balconies. The grounds are a perfect mix of wild and cultivated. Dinners at the communal table recall hotel traveling in the grand old style.

The location is great and near the beach and restaurants. The staff are all so kind and can book your tours for you. Johnny in particular was so welcoming and kind and made us feel so at home. We ate dinners at the hotel which were delicious and felt like a nice home cooked meal. We knew before we travelled but if you drive to the hotel it’s a long drive on bad quality roads and a 4x4 is needed! We were prepared so it was fine, but heads up.

Lital (9/5): Loved our stay - We stayed for 3 nights, great balconi, sp'acious room, location is few minutes drive from the city center. Emilio is the best host you could ask for and he makes the most amazing food (dinner is very recommended!) He was very helpful with recommendations and booking tours. No AC, there were small bugs but there's a mosquito net around the bed. It's in the jungle so on the plus side you can see or hear monkies and toucans. Overall stay was great.
Riccardo (9/5): Good stay in Drake bay with very friendly hosts. - Clearly a unique place with „character“ - compared to many other hotels on our CR journey. The service (by Johnny & Emilio) was excellent - they are taking care a lot and provide best local recommendations. The service also include to take care of a few dogs & cats - most friendly animals one can think of. And so the atmosphere is simply relaxed. All food is prepared fresh and on demand - very tasty menus for dinner. The entire resort is huge and the view from the balcony is great. Let me note that the streets & the way to get there is, let‘s say, is out of my comfort zone. Driving 2hours for only 38km on a very inappropriate road. Of course the Maresia team can’t change the fact / nor is responsible for it. Just be aware of it and plan enough time and drive in day time.

Luann (10/5): Finca Maresia is Everything that is Good about Costa Rica - Finca Maresia is a wonderful get-a-way spot. i spent 5 days in one of the deluxe double rooms. i had no need to go anywhere else. there is a plethora of wildlife visiting Finca Maresia each day/all hours. it kept me interested and excited to keep looking for more. the bathroom was fabulous with an open side to the treetops. you can bird watch whilst showering! the balcony with a hammock and seating was my fave spot. i use the mosquito net over the bed each night so i never had any issue with insects. I hope to visit Finca Maresia, Emilio and his team again someday. nothing...all good

A little far from the village and no air con, however minor points compared to everything that was good about it!

Julian (10/5): Fabulous, we stayed an extra night it was so good - The owner (Miguel) and his staff was the best part, he was so helpful and genuinely wanted your experience to be the best. From example, he picked us up and dropped us at the beach, he recommended a day out horse riding with Pepe which was so good, home cooked lunch and waterfall swimming was so memorable. The hotel is clearly a passion, and is not for those looking for luxury (no AC), but that's the point, more in touch with nature Couldn't take the cats home.

Loved the design of the room and the whole space. It can get hot at night but we where aware, when we booked the hotel that there is no air conditioning.
Jen (10/5): Amazing! - We liked the individual houses with a deck and hammocks that backed onto the jungle where you could listen to and watch the birds. We enjoyed the communal table that guests shared for breakfast and dinner. The staff were great at organising excursions, driving you to meeting points and making sure breakfast was available for early starts. The owner has been in Drake for many years and uses the best guides and your providers. It was very hot when we stayed and the rooms were warm at night if you were not able to be directly under the fan.

Whether it's going about the cleanliness of the room, the taste of food, or tips about local activities, the best places around. In addition, the bathroom view and terrasse with hammocks above all expectations.
Sonja (10/5): If it’s free, book it! Don’t waste your time time searching further. - It was wonderful! What a gem! Me and my twins loved every minute of our stay here. Thank you so much John, Mark and all the staff for your hospitality, your thoughtfulness and your warmth. Everything was so well organised, but with so much calm and ease at the same time. And a huge thanks to the wonderful chef and kitchen staff for the delicious food. The rooms are equally great. A shower with a view and wow what a view! And spotlessly clean. I would also highly recommend booking tours directly (and in advance) through Finca Maresia. They clearly chose the best tours. We did three tours and our guides were stunning each time. So, I can wholeheartedly recommend Finca Maresia. We were so sad to leave. Greetings to you guys at the Finca! It was perfect.
David (8/5): Very good - Quiet location with great garden and grounds giving feeling you are in the heart of the rainforest. Relaxing atmosphere and good for birdwatchers. Helpful staff who will arrange a variety of activites. We enjoyed the nightwalk with Roy in the grounds and the snorkelling at Cano island. Fixed menu evening meal available on site which was helpful. Out of town and requires a car or transfer from beach (provided for free). Hilly walk to and from beach 30 mins. Comfortable lodge but shower room although large had open slatted windows with no mosquito or insect protection.
Rebecca (10/5): One of the most serene and tranquil hotels I have ever stayed in! Would 100% recommend. - Serenity & tranquility just outside of the hustle and bustle of Drake. I loved that the cabinas are built within nature and we could watch so many birds from our balcony. The team were lovely. And it was very convenient having dinner at the property. It was perfect, nothing I didn’t like.

Michael (9/5): Beautifully set in the trees, incredible access to birdlife, friendly and great value for money - Finca Maresia is a wonderful, friendly place to stay. Incredible value for money. The rooms are modern, spacious and clean and set in the trees in the forest sounding Bahai Drake thus enabling incredibe views of wildlife and birds, especially first thing in the morning. Mark and the staff were attentive, enthusiastic and welcoming, including coming to pick us up in a thunderstorm. This was one of my partner and my favourite stays during our 3 week honeymoon. Only complaint is that it's a little out of town (like many local guesthouses) and therefore not easy to move around after sunset on foot- we ended up spending every night at Finca Mareisa, although this didn't really matter as the joint meals on site with other guests.

Assira (10/5): Exceptional - We loved this stay! The staff is very friendly. You have breakfast and dinner here with the other guests, together as a family. The shared deck where you can watch birds is very beautiful and peaceful. The rooms have a serene Bali meets Japan vibe.
Serena (10/5): Great stay in the jungle away from the hustle and bustle - Great breakfast, great attention by the staff, great setting and location! When it rains it’s a bit loud in the room, but definitely manageable also with earplugs.
Anonymous (10/5): The best! We loved this place! - In real life this hotel is much prettier than the pictures show. The valley is magical, we saw parrots, toekans, ara’s, kolibrie’s and many more. The staff is fantastic and the lady’s in the kitchen make the best food. We loved the place and felt very welcome. The family room was big and the beds were good. Best we had since Costa Rica and its very clean. Privacy but a great view. Mark gives nice advices like a swim closeby in a small river. Nothing!
Lisa (10/5): Amazing week long stay - Wonderful week long stay at Finca Maresia. We loved the atmosphere. The property grounds were well maintained as well as the rooms. We liked that each room/suite had privacy. The staff (especially Mark & Johnny) was awesome, friendly and helpful. My husband and I were traveling with two friends. Mark arranged for our rooms to be next to each other. The staff arranged for all our tours/activities (Corcovado Sirena trail, Tapier Trail, Scuba diving, Bird Watching, etc). The guided night walk of the property with Roy was an incredible experience. Yes there were mating red-eyed tree frogs :). There was definitely no shortage of things to do and also easily to just relax and bird watch from the lounge area too. Food was good. Our stay included hot breakfast, fresh fruit and juice. There were also cookies or sweet buns during the day to snack on too. The onsite kitchen also offered lunch or picnic lunch as well as dinner. We did do the picnic lunch for a day hike which was great. Dinner is a 3 course with selection for appetizer & main. Definitely did not go hungry and the kitchen easily accommodated for dietary restrictions. Highly recommend! Not really a dislike, but if the property had a pool I would definitely use it! :)
Sarah (10/5): Very nice place to stay! Close to everything, and very laid back. - It was a great stay, and John was very kind and helpful! Our place was very clean and we loved waking up hearing the birds and howler monkeys in the morning.
Thomas (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing and beautiful hotel with good food and beautiful location! What really stand out and was exceptional compared to all hotels were stayed before was the extra services that they provided / help us with! Before arrival we got all the information regarding tours and arrival. We were able to book the Serena tour well in advance with them (as required). We received the needed information about arriving by boat and they made the boat reservation for us. They picked us up at the beach and drove us there for every tour. They make sure that we were served breakfast extra early according to our tours and day activities. They have coffee, water, tee and delicious cake for free at all times for guest Overall it was a great experience staying at Finca Maresia and I recommend this hotel to everyone going to Drake Bay!
Mario (10/5): Nature experience, highly recommended. - The environment is shocking. Emilio and Jony are super regardful people. They give you incredible recommendations. They always make sure that the guests feel like being at home. Delicious dishes for breakfast and dinner, not expensive at all. We highly recommend you to wake up early in order to see birds (and other animals) behaviour with a telescope they have for free for guests.
Philipp (9/5): Great stay to visit Corcovado - The team is amazing and they really go above and beyond to make your stay as comfortable as possible. They immediately responded to emails when we had questions or requests. Additionally they take care of the boat transfer, shuttle to and from the hotel, booking of tours. The rooms are simple yet nice and overall it is a great experience to stay here. There's also lots of wildlife on the hotel premises, which makes it even more exciting.
Jenny (10/5): My favourite stay in CR - No wonder Maresia is constantly rated 10 - I absolutely loved everything about it. What’s not to love about lying in a hammock watching toucans and macaws flying past!! Loved the outdoor shower. Staff were exceptional.
Jantien (10/5): Wow - Emilio and Johnny were fantastic hosts; they organized trips and transport, accommodating early breakfast or dinner when needed (via a nifty whiteboard system). The family style dinners (very tasty) were a nice way to meet fellow guests. Nice open common area with telescope to view birds from the deck. The bungalows are very private with fantastic view and open-air bathrooms. Recommended: the unguided hike from Playa Rincon to Bahia Drake via jungle paths and beautiful beaches. Be aware that the rooms have a (quiet) ceiling fan, no AC.
Dark (2/5): Awful. Just awful. - The room is clean and they provide towels and shower gel. The food is decent. The staff is friendly. The accommodation is in some shacks covered with cheap metal roof sheets. (When it rains, it gets so noisy that you have to seriously raise your voice to hear each other. No to mention about sleeping.) The door to the bathroom is just a sliding cheap sheet of plywood which does not close properly. No privacy when you use the toilet of shower. There is a muddy path taking you to the shack. You'll get mud on your shoes every time when you go to/from your room. There is no airco. Just a ceiling fan. There are power-cuts in the evening. (We stayed just 2 nights and in one of them we had a long power-cut that lasted hours.) The overall feeling is very primitive: ugly grey walls, the lock on the door. There is nothing to do in the area. The accommodation is located in a poor village. If the parc is closed or the sea is agitated and you cannot go to the island for snorkelling, there is nothing to do there. We spent 2 weeks in Costa Rica and stayed in 5 different places. This one was the worst.
