- Anita (8/5): Quiet place to relax great for a weekend away. - Where it was and the age and style as so different. The flies and insects inside.
- marina (8/5): -
- Jacobus Francois (8/5): Great break away location. Friendly and accommodating host - Location, views, serenity. Not much. Probably the only thing was that the Esky had a slight smell when I opened.
Everything else was great

- Nicholson (10/5): Peaceful, cosy weekend stay in unique accommodation, perfect for singles or couples with a pet. - Location, serenity , wood fires, ambiance
- Chris (7/5): Cosy cottage is definitely rustic - Authentic rustic miners hut with cosy vibe in a great location. Fire place and gas lights really made it feel cosy. Comfy couches and some genuine charm makes this place a great option for a romantic weekend away I'd say. So i did like it ..but ..for the price I felt it was a bit under done. The only heating option is wood, howevwr you either need to bring your own or pay $30 for it. It's also BYO bedding and pretty cold out the back where the beds are. Shared bathroom with glamping site attached to the side kind of diminishes the cosy private vibe of the cottage (and i dont think the shared aspect was obvious from the description), as does having to enter and exit the property in front of the main house on the block. No power supply beyond a 5v USB port, no fridge, and while quite functional, pretty limited cooking facilities. To be clear, none of these things were game stoppers on their own (and almost all were noted in the description), but when you put them together, i couldn't help but think that the $125 per night rate was a bit pricey for what you get.
- Lucia (8/5): rustic and serene - We brought our own breakfast, bedding & towels
Milk, tea & coffee provided
Good range of wonderful cafes in nearby towns.
Great location surrounded by nature
Cabin was comfortable and basic equipment supplied We found the cabin a bit dusty.
Stone path to toilet and bathroom was uneven and a potential trip point
- Caitlin (10/5): Exceptional - Had everything you needed (except for byo bedding, obviously). Very charming cabin. Lovely peaceful area. Very nice spot for a relaxing weekend.
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fleur (8/5): A relaxing escape in nature yet close to all that you might need in Castlemaine. - We loved the rustic little cottage! Very peaceful & with gorgeous outlook. Was so nice having an open fire. Kitchen had all you need (though do bring ice) & bathroom was better than expected. Highly recommend if you’re not fussy & want a country getaway. The USB charger didn’t work for us & the cottage got a bit smoky but possibly both issues (which were minor) were due to user error!
- Dianne (8/5): Very good -
- Geoff (6/5): Pleasant -
- Marina (8/5): Very good -
- Deborah (10/5): I need a weeks rest and I got it -fresh air, peace, and beauty. - Gorgeous spot in the Chewton Bushlands surrounded by birds, kangaroos, and a lovely black labrador who wanders around. We had endless hikes, peace and quiet, rest, and proximity to all that is Castlemaine.
Very comfy, no 240volt so adapted to battery phone charge, LED lights, worm fed toilets, very eco !! Loved it. Some creature noises at night--shared bathroom ok. Glamping nearby is pretty groovy.
- Nicole (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kieran (7/5): Good -
- Andrea (8/5): We really did feel like we got away from it all and felt recharged upon leaving. - We loved that we were off grid in such peaceful surrounds. The cottage was surprisingly warm considering the weather outside. And was cute with everything you needed. We really felt like we had gotten away from it all.
We did get to see some kangas come nearby.
It was good to know Paul was only a phone call away if we ran into trouble. There could have been more instructions around the place like how to use the usb charger and how to build a fire if you didn’t already know.
The ambience fire was hard to get going - even for ambience, but the barrel fire was great - it really kept the place warm.
I’m glad we didn’t have any glampers nearby because we would have heard them using the bathroom.
It took a while for the “untrusting” me to accept there were no locks on the doors and that we and our things would be safe. But everything was very safe.
- Jessica (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful location, confortable, and different.
- Colin (10/5): Great location with rustic charm highly recommended - Nice bush setting not far from town N/a
- Moragh (9/5): Superb -
- Roslyn (8/5): Very good - Quite location. A lock on the door would have been nice given other guests were around.
- Dennis (10/5): Exceptional - Lovley spot The tranquillity
- Rebecca (10/5): A wonderfully rustic step back in time. - The Rustic Miners Cabin lived up to its name - it was fabulously rustic! Overall the properly was very well maintained, with beautiful views, especially from the couch on the front verandah. The cabin is beautifully crafted with stone and mud walls, timber roof and stone floors. All the decor fit into the miners theme and were a feast for the eyes. A few items could do with a clean (utensils and benches) and the single bed is very squeaky.
- Jessica (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect place to rest
- Christine (9/5): Thank you. We would love to return to the cabin in the winter as it would suit being cozy. - We loved the authenticity of the cabin and the fact that is gave us peace and quiet for the rainy weekend. We enjoyed its simplicity as the cabin had a magic that projected into us some serenity and peace of mind. Not applicable.
- Diane (6/5): Beautiful spot but the provision of a doona and pillows would be helpful. - The cabin was in a lovely setting in a wooded area on the farm and very peaceful . However it said bring bedlinen which we did. But when we got there we found there were no pillows, doonas or blankets. We assumed they would be provided. There was also a requirement to pay for any wood used. I just felt that it did not really feel welcoming with requests for the payment for wood and no bed covers or pillows. There was no fridge due to no electricity. We knew this before we went but felt the cost was not matched to the facilities.
- Greg (8/5): Very good -
- Timnewton (10/5): Wonderful stay! Will come back. - Great location. Very peaceful and quiet. Perfect for a relaxing weekend. Really wanted to get away from it all. Very clean.
- Kieran (8/5): Very good - nice and quite peace full
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Janine (9/5): Superb -
- Affrica (10/5): Exceptional -
- Echo (6/5): Pleasant -
- Gabrielle (8/5): It was what I expected. A charming basic stone cottage. My dog loved roaming around and settled well inside. Thanks! - Beautiful location and set up. Loved the outdoor fireplace even though we didn’t use it! Indoor fireplace very easy to manage. Comfortable beds Could have heavier insulating curtains. It is mid winter and we expected cold! A teapot?
- Peter (10/5): We loved it! It was what we expected. But we could not have imagined the relaxed feel. - The serenity. Bathroom door lock.
- John (8/5): Very good - Liked the location in the countryside & also the quaintness of the cottage Maybe check for the ? rat nesting in the ceiling above the bed!
- Karen (7/5): Good - This is a unique property and people need to know it is really like camping but with a roof. We like it for that's what it offers. The surfaces outside are very uneven, I would not recommend for anyone unsteady on their feet. The bed is very comfy and the fireplace is lovely. It's nice to have an off-grid experience. It was our second stay (last time booked on Hipcamp).
- Kylie (8/5): Well apponited and beautiful cabin with good instructions and communication. - Very cute and beautifully appointed cabin in stunning location. I appreciate that I knew in advance that I would have to pay for firewood, but, $40 was way too much for me, so, I was just very, very cold. But, I did know in advance, so it wasn't a surprise, but, I would have appreciated enough wood for one fire to be included.
- James (7/5): Great experience and made for a nice weekend in Castlemaine - Ambience was great, location was great too. Genuine old miners cabin that we we're hoping for. Not knowing firewood had to be bought, as heating is usually taken as an accommodation inclusion.
- Kenneth (8/5): Very good -
- Gretel (7/5): Good - it’s a good tucked away location just past the owners house, not far from the Reservoir, which is a lovely spot loved by locals just out of Chewton. the cottage fits the title - is very rustic and colonial. There is a small wheelbarrow of wood o. the veranda, but inside the cottage a sign tells us that to use the wood to light a fire we need to leave $40 cash on the bench. This felt a tad unwelcoming! There are also many other signs around the cottage advising us what not to do. luckily we were there for a friend’s party so we just went to their place for most of the time and came back to sleep in the cottage at night. which was fine.
- Steve (7/5): Very reasonable for the price - good fun place - an experience for sure ! - Very quiet in the middle of the forest - quaint little place Outside bathroom
- Shani (8/5): Very good - As advertised, a quaint bush cottage with enough facilities for a comfortable stay - LED lights were a bonus. Great location - away from town but close, on owner's property but private. Lovely to have Paul introduce himself then leave you to enjoy. Kookaburras and parrots galore. Shared bathroom with a glamping tent but across a few nights with different people didn't even notice them. BYO bedding means even pillows and blankets/ doona not just linen. I either assumed or didn't read properly. Just an FYI.
