- EMIL (10/5): A top 3 hotel in Cartagena with highly attentive staff. - The staff were very attentive, they helped us to store luggage before and even after the trip, as well as assisting to take luggage to the nearby port. The hotel itself is a real gem and architectural marvel, lots of history. Food is fantastic, and an amazing rooftop swimming pool with a bar. Will definitely return! We liked everything.
- Tone (10/5): Second to none in Cartagena old town! - This intimate 15-room hotel is housed in a beautifully preserved 14th-century historic building. The owner, Carolina, has maintained the original character of the house—complete with stunning wall paintings—while transforming it into a truly serene and elegant sanctuary. The hotel features two pools: a smaller saltwater pool on the top-floor terrace and a freshwater pool in the courtyard below. Its location is unbeatable, right in the heart of the old town, just behind the cathedral. The rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated, with very comfortable beds and large, well-appointed bathrooms. Thoughtful details abound, from the abundance of thick towels to the beautifully scented soaps. Rarely have I encountered such genuinely friendly and service-minded staff. Everyone went above and beyond to assist with all our inquiries—from tracking down a post office (no easy task in Colombia!) to arranging a late check-out. The food and drinks at Casa Caroline are outstanding. Ingredients are locally sourced, healthy, and thoughtfully prepared, resulting in truly memorable and well-balanced flavors. I hope we have the chance to come back one day! I have tried to come up with one aspect I didn't like, but did not succeed ;-)

- Megan (7/5): Beautiful & with lots of potential - The hotel is undeniably beautiful, with a stunning courtyard and rooftop that are true highlights. The room was well equipped, with a good TV, a very useful handheld steamer, and excellent storage — including a spacious locker suitable for laptops, cameras, and valuables. The bathrobes and slippers were also gorgeous and a lovely touch. We also really appreciated the help when we accidentally left a wallet behind — the team organised delivery to our next hotel in a different town, which was greatly appreciated. The hotel is still quite new and a few practical changes would quickly and significantly improve the guest experience. If travelling with elderly guests, note that access to downstairs rooms is narrow and precarious. The shower floors are slippery and lack grab rails, which is a safety concern. A bent rug in the room caused a fall, though staff did remove it promptly once mentioned. There are also privacy and layout issues: a shared area directly outside our bedroom was allowed to be booked as a business meeting space, with a toilet next to the room. This led to unexpected noise in the morning and felt more like an office area than a guest corridor — meetings should be properly enclosed. Downstairs rooms face the street, with a dark external screen added for separation, meaning curtains stay closed and windows can’t be opened without noise. Comfort could be improved: bedding felt overly layered and slippery, and better pillow options (firmer or foam) would help. Service was mixed. Reception staff were kind, but English is very limited. Even in Spanish, breakfast service lacked basic greetings, explanations, and menu knowledge, suggesting more training is needed. Communication is very difficult for non-Spanish speakers. Food and drink availability was inconsistent, with many items regularly unavailable. The dual QR-code menu system was also awkward; physical menus would be much more Finally, staff had no real recommendations for restaurants, tours, or activities — when asked, they simply googled options. A small, well-curated guide with a few trusted restaurants and tours would add real value.

- Igor (10/5): A beautiful wellness-focused oasis with warm staff, great amenities, and a few small quirks. - I loved the atmosphere of this place, it genuinely feels like a peaceful oasis in Cartagena. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, always finding a way to make things easy. Breakfast was fresh and healthy, and I appreciated the flexibility of choosing where to enjoy it. They really take great care of you. I also enjoyed the massage, yoga, and tai chi classes, which made the stay feel like a complete wellness experience. There appear to be several hotels or Airbnbs operating within the same property, which creates a slightly confusing dynamic around which areas each guest can use. This wasn’t explained during check-in, so it took a bit of time to understand how everything worked.

The energy of this beautiful place – the oldest building in the city – is truly incomparable. Every member of the staff, from reception to the bar to housekeeping, was exceptionally kind and welcoming. The food and the coffee were absolutely delicious – some of the best we had during our entire stay in Colombia (you must try the seafood rice!). The rooms were spotless and equipped with everything we needed. Thank you for everything. We can’t wait to come back!
- Ching Yee (9/5): - The hotel is beautiful and comfortable. Great air conditioning which was fantastic after a long day of walking around in the heat in Cartagena. Staff were very attentive and friendly. The breakfast was healthy. Pool is small but clean and perfect for a quick dip. At the end of the stay I was presented with an invoice which included a large tip (which was optional). It would have been good to know beforehand that this would be on my bill as I had a very rude shock as I am not from a tipping culture, particularly given this hotel is not cheap. I had already tipped the staff that have assisted me in cash so I declined to pay the optional tip on the bill.
- Michael (3/5): Disappointing stay despite great potential - The room was nicely decorated and spacious. The breakfast was nice. The staff were unaccommodating in several instances. The level of service in proportion to the price paid was not satisfactory. Very little effort was made to make us feel comfortable. When we arrived early and asked to take a shower, we were told we would have to book a massage first (per person). The "welcome drinks" were charged to us and we had to argue (an uphill battle) that the service person told us they were complimentary. The room was booked for 3 people, and yet the towels and toiletries were arranged for 2. When we gave some of this feedback real time, we were met by some of the staff more coldly throughout our stay. Booking the presidential suite we expected better service.
- Michelle (3/5): Not good enough - The location and the look of some of the parts of the hotel We booked the suite which was located near the pool and next to the service door for employees which made the location of the room extremely busy and noisy. We could constantly hear people coming and going and it was so close that sometimes you could feel almost as if they were coming inside the house. Also for such a hotel you would hope for better service, on the first night they had an event going on on another side of the hotel and because of that they weren’t able to give us room service. Not to speak about the fact that some other members of the staff although trying their best, didn’t really seem experience enough.

- Michael (10/5): The most exceptional hotel I’ve stayed at in the world - Every single person, food , experience, and part of this hotel was incredible. I have never had this level of exceptional service. The room was the most comfortable and, I was able to properly rest and reset. I highly recommend for anyone looking to reset, recharge, and properly turn off your mind. The yoga classes were exceptional. Water was a little warm instead of hot, but that really wasn’t an issue as the weather was very hot. A cold shower was refreshing.

- Jacob (10/5): - Casa Carolina is a beautiful boutique hotel in the heart of Cartagena’s Old City. The location is unbeatable—you can walk everywhere and never need an Uber. With only 15 rooms, it feels like staying in a private home, and the pool is gorgeous. The staff and service were amazing—truly one of the highlights of our stay. A few things to note: the wellness-style menu is healthy but doesn’t offer many snack options. Street performers outside (especially drummers) can be very loud at night, though they’re usually gone by 11 PM. At checkout, they asked for a 10% tip on the entire stay, which felt a little uncomfortable—we only tipped on food and beverage. Overall, the pros far outweigh the cons. We would definitely stay again for the location, the charm, and the incredible staff.

We had a nice view for enjoying the daily afternoon dance group show. The city view from the rooftop was also a great amenity in addition tho the pool and bar. I had a relaxing massage with a complementary matcha latte from the coffe bar. I had a great weekend with my family there and I just wished there was a gym facility to make the most of a wellness weekend.

Even though there was loud music outside, we did not really hear it that much inside our room. The service and staff were great. Our room was so tidy and clean every time we came back from exploring the city! I liked the rooftop bar and pool a lot! One night while at the rooftop we got to see fireworks coming from somewhere near the pier, such a nice surprise. Also, I felt safe at the hotel which I did not fully realize before I got there, because of how centrally located the place is. We stayed 5 days and like other reviews mentioned, we loved the healthy breakfast the first and second day but by the 4th day we were tired of it. It would have been great to have other options to order. Also a little gym to work out a little at least.

The service is really good. My 15 year old son and I enjoyed very much the swimming pool on the roof top. The quality of the bedding is great. Having the option of the Yoga classes is great, we enjoyed this experience very much. Tata is a great teacher! The breakfast menu needs to be more diverse, particularly if you are staying several days. Access to the reception staff is not easy via the WhatsApp service that they offer, it takes too long for them to respond.

- Gavin (9/5): Superb location in the heart of the old town. - Wonderful location in the heart of the old town. Beautiful restoration of a former mansion has made this hotel visually stunning. Breakfast was a delight, roof top bar offers a lovely view and the spa treatment was excellent. The ambience and lighting was superb. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants within crawling distance from the hotel although just remember this is South America so a little patience when waiting for service is required. Staff were fantastic, very friendly and helpful in recommending restaurants, arranging airport transfers and seeing to our needs with iron and ironing board among other things. A little Spanish will also go a long way in Colombia too so do brush up on your language skills. Due to noise from outside and above our room, I can’t recommend staying in the rooms on the ground floor. We were in room number one. So be sure to opt for the deluxe rooms on the second floor and above. Room one also had some restoration work going on outside the room which thankfully meant that foot traffic outside couldn’t stand or walk close to our window which could happen as traders set up their stalls in that area.

Massages were very good and the yoga teachers were amazing. Breakfast could be slightly better (still very good), the lunch/dinner menu was fantastic and the best food we had in Cartagena.

Quelques exemples non acceptables : Réveil à 9h du matin pour demander de faire le ménage, son de la musique à fond en pleine sieste sur les fauteuils de la piscine, remise d'une facture de tips optionnelle de 55e pour 2 nuits mais entourére de l'équipe donc avec la sensation d'être obligé de payer....

It felt like a private villa. I felt very safe and taken care of. All the staff are extremely helpful even if they don’t speak English. I particularly enjoyed the roof top bar and swimming pool. I had one of my best espresso in Casa Carolina. I think the breakfast is too healthy😂 It could be enriched a bit.

A pesar de estar en el Centro y una zona muy concurrida, no se sentía el ruido al interior del hotel y la habitación. La carta del restaurante y del bar, muy limitada, la mayoría de platos son vegetarianos, no había posibilidad de carne de res. En el bar una selección limitada de tragos y cuando uno pedía algo fuera de la carta no lo podían preparar.

The location is absolutely perfect, the team is exceptional, the food is delicious, the facilities are top notch, beautiful design. Exceptional setting. And an exceptional owner, Caroline, who really cares about her guests. I travel a lot and have experienced hundreds of hotels by now. Casa Carolina is an absolute crush and I will for sure be back.

Die Zimmer sind sehr groß und gut ausgestattet, die gut riechende Seife und Shampoo sind von einem netten Shop nebenan. Wir liebten das Rooftop mit Pool und Bar. Das Personal war immer sehr nett und hilfreich. Am Abend aufgrund der Lage etwas lauter bzw der Musik im Innenhof, aber stört nicht großartig.

- Joan (10/5): Top keuze voor Cartagena - Casa Carolina is niet zomaar een hotel, het is een belevenis. Het hotel heeft een eeuwenoude geschiedenis en dat is op veel plekken nog goed te zien. Onze kamer was comfortabel met een fijn groot bed en leuke details. Het is zeer centraal gelegen, maar in de kamer hoor je geen geluiden van buiten. Het ontbijt was heerlijk.
