Guest Reviews
- Mariia (7/5): -
- Anureet (5/5): - The property is under construction. The rooms were clean, comfortable,
- Jeewaka Pathmasinghe (4/5): Given the conditions and facilities, choosing this property was disappointing. - The mountain view from the rooms is beautiful, and the rooms are spacious. They also offered a complimentary traditional Sri Lankan breakfast (kiribath), which was delicious. The details and pictures shown on Booking.com are completely misleading. There is ongoing construction at the property, with materials scattered everywhere, making it feel more like a construction site than a hotel. These conditions should be clearly updated to avoid unpleasant surprises for guests.
The rooms are located 2 to 3 levels below and are accessible only by stairways. During rain, the stairs become wet, slippery, and very dangerous. Some hallways are equipped with sensor lights, but the sensors are not functioning, leaving areas in complete darkness.
We had three rooms; one had no proper running water, and another had no working TV channels (PeoTV was not working).
When we returned to the property after dinner around 21:30, there was no staff present to address any issues. The reception area was completely dark, and the stairways had no lighting at all.
We were a group of six, including two elderly guests, and it was particularly dangerous for them to use the stairs under these conditions. Overall, given the conditions and facilities, this hotel was a very disappointing choice.
- Ekmini (7/5): As a starting property it’s fine. If they recognize their missing service areas they will do great soon - The view was amazingly breathtaking. Beautiful Ella rock view from the room.
Also the food is excellent. We asked for milk rice for breakfast which was not on the menu but they prepared it for us. It was very nice. Property is under construction and we were not informed about it. There were construction workers. We were the only guests (2 pax) kind of uncomfortable.
Reception could have done better with service.

- Vivian (7/5): -
- Marko (6/5): - View No AC, dirty floors, big gaps on balcony door, geckos in the room.

- Marie (6/5): Pleasant - Absolutely amazing view and location, great food
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional - Insane views!
- Romain (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jas (8/5): Very good - Staff was generally cooperative, location was perfect, overlooking the valley and yet close to Ella town, rooms were spacious with a nice balcony, bathroom and fittings/ appliances were modern and well maintained. When we asked for some coffee and creamer sachets, were informed that only 2 can be given per room per day. Seems like a strange thing to skimp on at the room rates charged. Perhaps a staff training issue
- Emanuela (4/5): Not worth the price, views were beautiful - I liked the view and the simplicity of the space. The staff was very kind and smiling although did not understand english. The breakfast was not included, which was fine, but even the paid breakfast was embarassing. Took 1 hour to receive an avocado toast and a coffee and was also too expensive. The space didnt feel clean, the bed was damp.
- Liel (9/5): We liked it - The service here from the reception staff is really pleasant.
The hotel room is spacious and large room with a
beautiful view.
The Location is good 5 minutes from the center.
Overall we really liked being there. A bit noisy but not to much.
- Kevin (10/5): Wonderful place to stay in Ella - I was very glad to have chosen Mandara Mount Hotel as my place to stay in Ella. The views from each guest room terrace (as well as from the restaurant) are simply unparalleled - just beautiful! The rooms are spacious and comfortable, as are the terraces that adjoin them.
The location is great - a short easy walk down the road into Ella and from there to a number of local trails.
Whilst the town of Ella has some terrific
eateries, the restaurant at Mandara Mount turned out to be a fantastic option. Their chef is awesome, and the menu has a great selection.
To top it off, the staff is terrific. Shyamali in Reception was so very helpful and attentive to every need, as was Sasindu in the restaurant. They gave a personal touch that was very much appreciated.
- Stuart (9/5): Great location , great food and views , friendly staff - Great location , 5 mins walk to centre of Ella
Great view of Ella Rock and Ella Gap from balcony
Great breakfasts and had a really good evening meal too .
Friendly helpful staff No air con but fan worked well .
Doors to balcony didn’t fully seal but drew curtains at night and no mozzie issues
WiFi in room didn’t work but fine in restaurant and reception
- Jovan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Audrey (8/5): Very good -
- Karin (7/5): Good -
- Christopher (10/5): We enjoyed excellent service - Staff friendlyness and location
- Shayne (8/5): Great place to rest and recover before moving on again - Great staff, great food and amazing views from the room and the restaurant No air con
- Ariadna (8/5): Very good - Beautiful views and very spacious rooms and bathroom! Could be cleaner!
- Emma (7/5): Good - The view from the bedroom is spectacular The fan is very loud.
- Nessa (8/5): Great stay -
- Anita (10/5): Exceptional - It was an excellent location, rooms were clean and spacious.
- Ingrid (7/5): Ok stay but pricey - Nice room size and bathroom No AC, so very warm.
Some noisy from traffic
Very old and rough bedlinen
- Karin (9/5): Convenient and commanding exceptional view. - The view was stunning, even from the bed. Bathroom was well equipped and the bed was comfortable. Good internet connection. Easy walk from the town. On initial approach, it seemed there was no hotel. More effort could be made to make the entrance welcoming.
- Corina (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing stay! Brand new hotel with clean spacious rooms and an incredible views. The rooms have frameless floor to ceiling windows, so when you are in the room you feel like you are flying above the jungle Breakfast was also very good and served on a panoramic terrace. The location is also excellent, on a main road, so it is easily accessible. You can also walk to city center- 10 min walk. Special thanks to Shanika, the manager! You do a great job! We wish we stayed more!!
- Aheeban (5/5): Passable - It was located near to the town
- Shama (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sonja (10/5): A gem in Ella. Close enough to town, with lovely views. - Breakfast was a superb surprise with great food served by friendly staff that go out of their way to please. I already booked next trip. It is my 'go to' place in Ella.
- Nimal (9/5): Clea airy rooms, delightful views. Excellent food. Excellent staff. - Great location. Breakfast was excellent. Good value for money. The road noise... but can'texpect the hotel to do anything about that
- Manmay (8/5): Very good -
- Alinh (10/5): ok - the view was nice, the room was big and comfy there was a weird smell in the room..not quite sure what it was.. it could have been from some animals nearby , but after you get used with it, it was ok :)
- Sophie (9/5): Great spot for visit to Ella - Beautiful views. Staff couldn’t be more welcoming and helpful.
Breakfast was amazing! There was a bit of a smell of damp from the bathroom. It was a damp few days that we stayed so hard to dry things properly but they had a good trick for making sure the towels were properly dry.
The roads are loud and this would be the same for anywhere in Ella. Ear plugs solved this and made for a better nights sleep.
- Jo (7/5): Great location for central Ella - Good location walking distance to Ella. Spacious room with AC fairly modern. Staff very friendly and helpful. Views from the rooms are amazing. Even though the rooms have great views, you’re surrounded by the roads that climb up to Ella which are busy 24/7 so it’s very noisy, take ear plugs! Hotel is half finished, little things like power points not capped off, holes in ceiling for previously used lights not filled in. Dead insects in the blind in the bathroom. Attention to detail could be better.
- Monika (10/5): Exceptional - Quiet location, however close to the Ella city center. Big rooms with exceptional view. Very nice and helpful personel All was ok
- Anoj (5/5): Passable -
- Zofia (7/5): Great view, but overpriced - Beautiful view, friendly staff The hotel, despite being new (dare I say still under construction?) is already a little run down - stains on ceilings and floors, unfinished tiling in the bathroom, loose sockets etc.
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional - amazing view, amazing stuff 👌🏻👌🏻
- Sivan (9/5): Highly recommend! - The view was incredible, the staff were very kind and welcoming and helped us whenever we needed. The location is about a 5 minute walk from the center with bars and restaurants but without all the noise which is wonderful. The clear window and door that makes the view so beautiful does not have a net, and there is a small gap all throughout the edges which lets bugs and flies in but we managed to keep it under control
- Benjamin (8/5): Good hotel close to the city with style, a great view and lots of space - you just have to look over the unfinished deta - Location and view are great. The design is cool, but it lacks finishing. Potential and idea are great, but unfortunately it isn’t finished. The spacious room and terrace are making up for that though. Just a 5-10 minute walk up to the centre of Ella, where all the restaurants and bars are located. Could be a little bit clearer. The staff is very friendly, but they’re more chilling. They’re not as helpful and on spot as you experience in other Sri Lankan locations. No suggestions for activities, good recommendations or help with drivers etc. All not mandatory but you notice it in comparison. Might be because they hardly speak English, which is also ok - but obviously not so helpful if you apparently aim for western tourists with your hotel idea. As said, the design idea and location are pretty good and the potential is high. But it seems as they just stopped at 75%. The bar and restaurant seem to be only existing in hairs, but nothing is really equipped. Same with the rooms and staircases. The construction and furnishings just stopped apparently before fully being finished.
- Ozerova (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ford (9/5): Stunning views from the comfy king bed - Absolutely stunning place to stay. We chose it for the view and it did not disappoint. The whole hotel looks like it needs a few finishing touches but for us it was perfect. They changed the sheets every day and refilled our tea, coffee and water. The staff were so friendly and really made an effort to make sure our stay was as comfortable as possible. Big rooms with a nice comfy bed. The walk up to town was so easy as well. It was great. I would stay again. Nothing!
- Yohan (8/5): Very good -
- Hugo (10/5): Just perfect! - Amazing experience! Gorgeous views of the mountains both from the bedroom and the bathroom. Great value for money. Everyone who works there is welcoming and makes you feel like home. Totally recommended!
- Jorge (4/5): It might be a good hotel when they finish building it - The room was very nice and good views. Everything was very new and spacious. Basically you cannot call “hotel” this accommodation. It’s just a room. No services at all: no reception, no room make up, no proper internet conexión, no hangers in the wardrobe, no refrigerator….by the way I think booking.com should check those kind of things before allowing a hotel to appear in the web as a 5 stars hotel
