Guest Reviews
- Grace (10/5): Beyond expectations - incredible! - This place was incredible! There is nothing I would change. Clean modern space, huge comfy bed, amazing views! The space itself is great and the additional touches take it above and beyond - access to the private bay with kayaks that can be taken out, home made soaps and skin care provided, soft fluffy robes, preheated hot tub! I can’t recommend this hideaway enough!!
- Lyndsey Eve (10/5): - Everything
- Maihi (10/5): It was great overall, a very lovely place with lovely hosts and would definitely recommend to anyone - The hosts were very accommodating and had great communication I loved everything about it no complaints
- Rebecca (10/5): Makuri Bay...Delightful - Everything......the accommodation, the deck, the view, the remoteness. It was breathtaking & the hospitality from the owners, Heather & Peter Nothing
- Franziska_K. (10/5): Absolutely recommend it. - Absolutely lovely place. Nice view, surroundings and nice hoosts. Good communication and absolutely lovely welcome, with a greeting card, some snacks and some little presents. The bathtub under the stars and listening to the owls and birds was absolutely the best. You could explore the beach and the forest. It was absolutely an amazing birthday to myself and a nice, quiet getaway. Almost everything you needed was there! Warning by the hot tub outside: don't put to much wood, otherwise you can't use it. It's burning and too hot. Maybe a little warning for that would help. There was a description book, but still. The place where you put the wood in must be better reachable, maybe with some small stairs. Arrived at night time and was a bit hard to find. I stopped one house earlier. Maybe another sign a bit more down the road :) definitely need a good car for reaching it.
- Jan (10/5): The ultimate chill out spot - Exceptional location and all the extra little touches were above and beyond. We truly enjoyed our time and highly recommend it to anyone if you want to get away from it all and relax and rejuvenate. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy this special spot. Loved the lemon shortcake and the quiet evenings in the hot tub listening to the kiwis - thank you!!! Everything was fantastic. One suggestion and not a complaint- we often find places only have small coffee cups which I understand but it would be great to have a couple of larger ones ( i did find one holding the Cappucino sachets but with just one it meant only one of us had the use of it.)
- David Balfour (10/5): Tranquil - Heather sent directions once booked easy to follow even though it was dark
The hot tub under the stars was amazing, the views in the morning stunning
But most of all the personal touches ensure a desire to return Nothing to fault
- Jason (10/5): - Everything was just perfect, view, room and especially the hot tub. Little things like the homebaking and the gift just made our stay perfect. we will be back😊

- Richard (9/5): Loved this little hideaway. We were well looked after. - We loved this little hideaway which we had booked for a quiet few days with the hope of hearing or seeing a kiwi. We weren’t disappointed, Heather and Peter looked after us brilliantly. We heard kiwi on our first night in the hot tub and on the second we went exploring with our red torches and saw one on their path down to the beach. Would highly recommend a stay here.
- Toni (10/5): Wonderful 100% recommend - What a wonderful weekend we had. The home made breakfast and goodies we received were such a lovely surprise for us. We went to Marsden bay for a walk and a swim at the beautiful beaches. We went fishing off the rocks and hubby used the kayaks early Sunday morning before we headed off back home. Had a bbq on both nights we stayed. The hosts readied our outside spa bath both nights so by evening the temperature was perfect! Was just stunning. Highly recommend 100%. Thank you so much we felt spoilt ☺️
- Richard (10/5): Relaxing break in stunning location - Fantastic location and extremely comfortable.

- Heather (10/5): Exceptional - The firewood spa and views were amazing! Only thing that could have been better was staying there longer!
- Nico (10/5): I would say it’s the best break away weekend for hardworking couples just to relax in the quietness of the nature. Will - Quiet scenic view and private beach Nothing, everything was perfect
- Sharen (10/5): A beautiful hideaway to relax with magical views - Lovely breakfast and location and the hot tub was magical listening to the kiwi at night 😊
- Andrew (10/5): A little piece of paradise! - This is a special place, views and sunset were spectacular the room was very comfortable, hot tub invigorating, hosts Heather and Peter were lovely the breakfast was yummy and all local food, the only regret was I couldn’t stay longer Thankyou we will be back again Regards Andrew and Liezl NA
- Danilo (8/5): For sure we are recommending this property - My wife and I were looking for a relaxing place and here it is! We had been welcomed with fresh bread, milk and homemade yoghurt, eggs, fruit, cereals and every breakfast facilities. Clean and comfortable, well appointed with nice decore. We found local handmade toiletteries in the bathroom. Also brochures of the nearby attractions were on the desk. We were the only guests in the property with direct access to their private beach. After a full day touring around, it was so nice to have an evening drink overlooking sunset from the terrace with stunning view over the sea!
- Natalie (10/5): Stunning stay with incredible views topped with unexpected bird life, while relaxing in the jacuzzi. - We absolutely love our stay! Gorgeous views with the beautiful California quail families walking past while we enjoyed relaxing in a pre heated Jacuzzi we also heard Kiwis calling... such a special place.
Our hosts were so lovely we arrived to a freshly cooked loaf of bread with home made strawberry jam that was Devine. We had everything we needed for our breakfast, fresh fruits, 3 cereals to choose from, and lovely fresh eggs.
Short walk to their private beach where kayaks and life jackets were provided.
Thank you to our wonderful Hosts
- Lisa (10/5): Beautiful stay, quality and lovely hosts. Would absolutely recommend to any couple wanting a home away from home - Beautiful and clean. Newly renovated. So many small touches making it just perfect. Didn’t realise how far out of town it was but the location was stunning.
- Andrew (10/5): Stunning views, private and modern well-appointed apartment with wood fired hot tub on the deck. - Has everything you could want, modern facilities, private and peaceful, a short walk to a private beach.
Beautifully furnished and very clean and tidy.
Hosts were very welcoming.
