Guest Reviews
- Nicole (9/5): Snug in the hills a secret little piece of paradise to immerse yourself in beautiful Balinese culture - Absolutely secretly stunning area , great walk to the beach for daily guaranteed snorkelling yaaaayyy and hike into the hills .
Loved the wildlife ie gekos frogs butterflies and other wierd and wonderful bugs .
Loved the basic wonderfully un hotel natural feel .
Totally nature immersed , lived on the chia smoothie bowls and Bali coffee for breakfast :)
Will be back soon hopefully as long as it’s kept a secret hahahaha thank you so much .
NA
- Viktorija (10/5): Feels like Family! -
We originally came to this Eco Lodge for six nights… and ended up staying for an entire month. Honestly, that says everything.
This is not just a hotel — it’s truly an Eco Lodge in the best sense of the word. A place where you immediately slow down, breathe deeper, and feel connected to nature, to people, and to yourself.
What made us stay so much longer was the atmosphere. It was incredibly peaceful, surrounded by nature, open air, animals, and authentic local living. At the same time, there was always life happening around us. The community here was constantly changing — new people arriving, others leaving — and somehow that made the experience even more special and interesting.
There are several beautiful shared spaces like the pool, the dining hall, and the kitchen where people naturally meet and connect. It’s the kind of place that gently encourages conversations, friendships, and meaningful moments. Some people were working quietly on their laptops, others were doing yoga or MMA training, children were happily playing in the pool with their parents… there was always something happening, yet it never felt crowded or overwhelming.
We also enjoyed acupuncture sessions, massages, and even an allergy food test with Michael, the owner. Every day brought something new. Even if you stayed at the lodge all day without going to the beach or excursions, you would never feel bored — there is always something to do, someone to meet, or simply a peaceful corner to relax in.
At one point we even invited our son to come and join us because this place truly makes you want to stay longer and settle into the experience.
What touched us most was the feeling of being cared for like family. We had a small accident and also some health-related questions during our stay, and every single issue was solved quickly and warmly.
- lucas (9/5): - really liked the pool and garden area. Great names for the different rooms :D and the view back to the mountains was unbeatable.
- Adam (10/5): - This place is an absolute gem! The property is nestled up against the foot of the mountains that rise up green and majestic like a postcard of tropical beauty. If you stay up late enough these same mountains frame a star filled night sky.
My one bedroom cottage was perfect - a comfortable bed and pillows, thoughtfully placed fans, a nice big bathroom and just about the cutest front porch I've ever spent time on. The individual cottages satellite out around the pool so each one has its own little yard and feels private and tucked away into nature.
One of the real highlights of staying at Alaya is that they do an amazing job of introducing you to the property, the other guests, inviting you to join them for lunch and really just making you feel welcomed and at home. I had initially booked for 2 nights and ended up staying 10.
There's also tons to do in the area, diving, hiking, bird watching, snorkeling, cooking classes, tons of great restaurants and the list goes on.
I really enjoyed my time here. It's a very special place.
I highly recommend it.
Rien.
- Valentine (10/5): Great stay, great staff, I highly recommend ! -
- Adam (10/5): - Best place we could possibly chose to stay in Pemuteran and maybe Bali in nutshell.
Super nice place, super nice and helpful staff.
10/10 recommendation
- GAETAN (10/5): Je veux déjà revenir - Lieu fantastique
- Edgar (10/5): - Very calm and friendly atmosphere. We stayed in a charming and uniquely well-preserved and clean wooden house. The staff were consistently helpful while also respecting our privacy. The food was of good quality.
- Ania (10/5): An amazing, idyllic stay - A great place, located away from the main road; a wonderfully kind owner who, together with his wife, is striving to create something more than just a place to stay.
- Jean-Luc SANJOSE (10/5): - Great Eco-Friendly Stay in Pemuteran
Alaya Ecolodge is a peaceful place located at the edge of the forest and at the foot of the hills in Pemuteran. The ecolodge is fully committed to sustainable tourism and works closely with the local community by employing people from the nearby village.
The owners, Michael and his wife, have carefully renovated the site during the Covid period and turned it into a welcoming and functional eco-community. Guests stay in comfortable wooden cabins, spread out across the forest and around a beautiful round pool. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, with a mix of short-term guests and long-term residents from different countries.
At the center of the ecolodge, there is a large open wooden hall used for yoga classes and meals. The Balinese food served on site is excellent. The lodge also offers massages, bike rentals, and plenty of organized activities.
The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. They offer well-organized excursions with local guides, such as snorkeling trips to Menjangan Island (where we saw turtles) and guided walks in Taman National Park to observe black monkeys in their natural habitat.
Pemuteran is a quiet bay with a small fishing village and a few beach bars. A great option for anyone looking for nature, calm, and authentic local experiences
- Cindy (10/5): -
- Natja (8/5): I'll come here again! Overall, it was a wonderful place with great people! - Amazing location, beautiful set-up of the original bungalows. The pool and sun lounges are fabulous, and so is the hall. No room cleaning, limited breakfast, dry and dusty environment. The eco thought is there but lacks a little in the use of electricity where solar could work and conventional light bulbs.
- Elisabeth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wouter (9/5): Superb -
- Claire (10/5): Exceptional - Alaya Eco Lodge is a beautiful and peaceful homestay with a strong sense of community. Surrounded by mountains and just a 20-minute walk from the beach. You can rent a scooter or bicycle for easy access to the beach, while the nearby trails invite you to explore the hills.
What makes this place truly special are the little details that create a warm and welcoming atmosphere—the thoughtfully arranged spaces, The wooden architecture , the inviting common areas where guests naturally connect, and the friendly cats that add to the cozy charm. You can also sometime join daily yoga sessions and, the free water refills make the stay even more comfortable. The manager and staff are always present, making sure every guest is well taken care of.
I really enjoyed my stay here and hope to be back very soon !
- Samuel (9/5): Tripical oasis - This is a true gem with the location offering the perfect level of comfort in a natural lodge style, you feel immersed in this green oasis
- Danielle (9/5): Great place located near to the hills - Really cool place to hang out, good breakfast - simple but nice, yoga mats, games and a kitchen for use. Neighbourhood was close to nice walks and really pretty in the jungle. Nice pool :) The beds were a bit lumpy and uncomfortable. Was a decent walk to town but honestly we knew that when booking so that’s all good! Really nothing bad though still a lovely place
- Garth (10/5): Dune alaya. - Everything about Dune Alaya was sensational. The staff are amazing. The beautiful log houses are so special, if you are looking for an authentic bali experience, with a community feel but also so much room to take your own space, I wouldn't look anywhere else but here. There is truly something very special about Dune Alaya and we will definitely be back!
- Aayushi (10/5): A very peaceful stay in beautiful Pemuteran . - This is a beautiful and serene place nestled amidst the mountains and nature. The location is ideal—peaceful and tranquil, yet conveniently close to restaurants, cafés, the beach, and temples. The owners are incredibly kind and welcoming, and the staff go above and beyond to make you feel at home. I hiked around the mountains and really enjoyed the proximity of the beach. I stayed here for just over two weeks, and if not for other commitments, I would have happily extended my stay to a month or more.
I absolutely loved my cozy little cottage and the private garden, which added a special charm to my experience. Hope to visit Pemuteran again, and when I do, this will definitely be my first choice for accommodation.
A few restaurant recommendations nearby:
• Pemuteran Coffee & breads serves amazing coffee and has a lovely atmosphere.
• Warung De Lekong is a small, clean, and authentic local eatery with delicious food, and they even deliver to the lodge. Everything was great. Thank You
- Pavel (10/5): Hidden gem of northwest Bali - It is very calm and relaxing environment. We liked the layout of the ecolodge with its traditional style cottages, pool, common space to meet other guests and community members, and the nature all around. Michael (owner) is a super energetic and friendly person who's open to help you and share his knowledge and tips. The staff was also super friendly, helpful and hard working. We also enjoyed MMA classes, which you can attend every Mon, Wed and Fri with Yari (World champion in MMA). It was the first time trying something like this and it was amazing! We recommend the place for longer stays in order to experience all it has to offer. The venue is around 15min walking from the main road. Thanks to that it has its relaxed vibe and calmness. Although you should take that in account if you don't want to rent a scooter and mind walking to grab a food or something. The place cares about ecology, so you cannot expect full blasting air con all day, be prepared for fans :)
- Tamara (10/5): Wonderful place with wonderful people. - Staying at Alaya was a truly special experience! We didn't want to leave.
If you are interested in activities, there are mountains to hike, beaches and coral reefs to discover. If you’re interested in training, there are experts in MMA, Yoga, Massage and Ecology to learn from too. It's also perfect just if you want to relax, and the pool was amazing for that.
We think this is what makes the space so special. The daily lunches, weekly bonfires and communal spaces became an intriguing place where people of different backgrounds, interests and situations came together and found common ground.
We wanted a bit of everything from our stay. So we chilled, took part in activities and socialised. As a result, we felt like we experienced everything Alaya had to offer. The place has left a special place in our heart. As Michael the owner told us, Pemuteran is a land of return and renewal and we are already planning a trip back. Nothing
- Laura (10/5): booked for 4 nights and stayed one month - Dune Alaya Ecolodge is the most beautiful accommodation i have been to the last 1.4 years of travelling! It‘s such peaceful place bedded in nature next to the mountains and the sea.
And on top the owners & whole team are such lovely people!!
I probably will come back again in December to end up my travel through Indonesia in this amazing place☺️
- Joanne (9/5): Peaceful stunning - Michael and his wife are very lovely people made me feel very welcome and say they go out of their way to help you definitely return And learn to ride a scooter lol No air-conditioning but then again it is a eco-lodge I want a pet for setback from the main road but if you can ride a scooter it’s fine beautiful location
- Eline (9/5): Lush green little paradise close to amazing snorkeling spot - Amazing location, very lush and green, like a true little paradise. Lovely pool. Characteristic and cozy wooden bungalows with a lovely en-suite bathroom. Mix between yoga- and hippies-style, built with love. Located off the main road, but easily accessible with a scooter (can also rent there). Close to many great restaurants and warungs and you should definitely go snorkeling at the artificial reefs of the Biorock Project just down the road. Very amicable staff and great breakfast. Perfect little get-away 🙏 I truly loved staying here. If I should say anything it’s that the bedsheets were a bit worn. I would come back anytime.
- Jana (10/5): Perfect getaway: kind staff, delicious meals, peaceful location, relaxing swimming pool, ... - What an amazing stay at Dune Alaya! From the moment I arrived, the staff greeted me with warm smiles and genuine kindness. They were always available to answer questions and offer help, making me feel right at home. The ladies from the kithen serve the most delicious meals made with love. I found myself looking forward to mealtime each day!
The location couldn’t be better: next to stunning mountains and just a stone's throw away from the beach. A very calm and peaceful location at the end of a dead end street. The free use of bicycles was very handy for short distances and for longer distances we cheapily rented scooters. But also the ecolodge itself was astonishing with a swimming pool for refreshment on hot days.
Overall, this place offers a perfect blend of relaxing, convenience, and community. I definitely recommend it!
- Hubert (10/5): Exceptional - I loved everything about my stay. The location is incredible, and the place itself is amazing. It’s very authentic, nestled in the middle of nature and close to the beach. Michael is probably the most welcoming host you’ll ever meet, making you feel right at home. I also had the chance to meet some great people during my stay. The staff was extremely friendly and always smiling. I couldn’t have hoped for a better experience in Bali. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you could stay for months. In fact, I met several people who initially planned to stay for just a few days but ended up extending their stay for weeks or even months. I will definitely come back! Nothing.
- Renaud (10/5): Exceptional - A little paradise at the end of a little road, only 15min from the beach! The views are incredible, the bungalows so cosy and in touch with the environment, and the food (the ecolodge offers communal lunch everyday) homemade and delicious.
Michael is very welcoming and will help organise trips to menganan island and give you the best local addresses!
We loved it so much that we already planned to come back! Nothing :)
- Elodie (10/5): Relax and unforgettable meetings in Permuteran - This ecolodge has everything you need to relax and recharge your batteries in peace and quiet. The staff and owner made us feel at home and worked with the local population: they went out of their way to find us a taxi on a local festival day, to take us on a snorkelling excursion on Menjangan Island and to advise us on the best restaurants in the area. The ecolodge was very clean and the hot pool allowed us to fully relax. We won't forget our short stay in Permuteran thanks to the people we met there! The ecolodge is about 20 minutes by walking to the Main Street with all facilities (restaurants, shops) and 25 minutes far from the beach.
- Matthijs (10/5): Amazing. - Beautiful oasis which was a perfect stay to relax and escape whatever needs escaping :).
- Daisy (10/5): A little paradise in west Bali. - Staying in a beautiful traditional cottage surrounded by a well kept native garden.
- Sarah (9/5): Superb - Beautiful traditional property in a lovely setting. Really friendly and helpful staff and owners.
Excellent pool.
- Nicolle (9/5): Blissful retreat in nature - What a special place this is! A peaceful oasis at the base of the mountains where its easy to feel at home. The managers are in the process of creating sustainable initiatives involving the local community and take on volunteers to help with different projects. One of the friendliest accomodations (and villages) I've ever been to! My little home for 5 days was gorgeous and comfortable with a front garden perfect for my yoga practice. As a solo traveler who loves my alone time it was the perfect mix of serenity with a feel of community. I was given the use of a push-bike at a very cheap price for my daily adventures and dinners out but also enjoyed a couple of the delicious communal lunches. Michael and his wife have many plans for further improving the guest experience and I look forward to coming back one day to see it all. Thank you for a blissful, inspiring stay and I wish you every success! ❤️ Would have liked a kettle in the room, but Michael was happy for me to use the kitchen for my early morning coffee.
- Marko (10/5): Peaceful - Pool.
Food.
Owner is realy nice
It was calm.
- Anggita (10/5): If you're looking to get connected more with the nature, this place is worth the stars ⭐ - It's like a tranquil gem set at the foot of hills and trees. We really enjoyed our stay here. Michael and all the staff were so welcoming and nice. Totally feels like home. Here, all the guests interact like long time friends. There were several activities or discussions you can join, but if you prefer to do things on your own, that's OK too. This place also offers a yoga course as well.
Staying here truly refreshed our mind. Since we did a road trip from Jakarta, we could have a great relaxation just by laying in bed doing nothing here. At night we did stargazing and I swear the stars were sparkling so exquisitely! Even my friend who stays in South Bali said that she was only seeing 1 star at the time I sent her the picture of the sky above us! Overall, you should give this place a try while staying around Menjangan. Not that I dislike this, it's just that the water ran too slowly. I think it's best to prevent water waste (which is very good). It's just that it's too slow sometimes.
And also, i hope the breakfast will have more variations in the future. Maybe something more local like nasi campur/roti bakar hahaha.
- Laurent (9/5): Go there and relax for a couple of days away from the crowded place - Awesome location and atmosphere, central pool surrounded by nature. The accomodations and the buildings in a cool Balinese old style are so beautiful and a pleasure to look at.
The owner Michael (busy, friendly and energetic) is well integrated in the community and will give you a glimpse of the local life and traditions when possible.
Lots of activities to do around, beach is close enough, and some really cool warungs. Try the Kima Bar and Resto (8km away) for a stunning sunset in a pool with a cocktail. Bring more shade around the pool :)
- Elumalai (10/5): Very special. - We liked the energy of each and everyone, the staff the guest, manager and everyone living a life of a family. Having a lot of fun together. It was beautiful stay. Very healthy time.
- Camille (7/5): Good - We booked what we thought was going to be a private room, but a few moments before the night another visitor joined us in the spare bed with no explanation whatsoever. Unfortunately for us this person also happened to snore very heavily and it ended up ruining our night. Other than that everything was great but we would’ve liked to be aware of this beforehand.
- Xinpeng (10/5): Exceptional - This place has great atmosphere and plenty of activities to do around, mountain, beach, snorkeling...
- Jacob (10/5): Where magic happens - Dune Alaya is by far the best experience I have had on Bali.
The host's, the crew and the guest seems to be a magical combination. I'll be back for more in the future.
- Laura (10/5): Exceptional - Incredible place . So peaceful. The wooden accommodations are just wonderful .
The garden around is beautiful and the swimming pool completes it so well . Great nature environment.
All the staff is amazing . Very friendly .
The owners have a big heart, and you can feel it straight away . Michael is full of resources and shares with pleasure if you are interested.
Being here is like being part of a community, but you can also do your own if you prefer. You can have lunch here , the food is good and the ambience is even better , a big sharing table . What makes me feel like being part of a family .
Solo travellers can stay in a "dorm" what is actually an amazing wooden house, for a good price. I feel so grateful I found that place. 🙏
I recommend staying more than one day to appreciate this great energy .
- Kölsch (10/5): Exceptional - I gained insights here that I could not have gained in any other hotel. There is local food and with a bit of luck you can join local ceremonies and celebrate with them. I feel like I'm part of a big family here and everyone is very nice
If you want an anonymous vacation and like parties, you should look for a hotel in the south, but if you like social contacts and want an insight into the traditions of the island of Bali, this is the right place for you. And what's more, the resort is simply beautiful and quiet
I love it here!
- Charlotte (10/5): Gem between mountain and sea - Absolute gem ! Everything was perfect, the garden and pool are magical. The cottages are beautiful and comfortable. The owners and team are lovely. We only stated 2 nights but wished we stayed 2 weeks. Nothing, everything was perfect
- Garland (10/5): Slice of paradise in a forgot part of Bali - Everything Michael and kavitha are creating is beautiful.
The mountain views and joglos are beautiful.
- Marco (10/5): An little piece of paradise - The cottages are amazing, all wood, beautiful bathrooms. The garden is extraordinary. The location is a dream: at the feet of the mountains, and 2min from the beach. The team is incredibly friendly. Nothing
- Thomas (9/5): Best accommodation in Pemuteran so far - Really love the style of the bedroom with a huge open bathroom.
There are two beds, 3 people can fit easily In the evening, the road that leads to the property is very dark
- Bryonyspencer (10/5): Unique and beautiful
get away.. - I was so happy to find such an amazing place to stay in North Bali... Paradise in controlled jungle...Quiet and peaceful... Beautiful walks directly from the hotel...Very friendly hosts...Beautiful swimming pool...Fantastic food... And incredibly reasonably priced!!. I m coming back for sure..
🫚 There is no restaurant in the evening but they lend bikes if you don't have transport.
- Jérôme (10/5): Exceptional - Really good location and people. A wonderful place close to paradise
- Marte (9/5): Magical spot - a home away from home! - Magical spot, quite but cozy - with the beautiful view on the mountain and the sea close by (short 15 min walk or take a free cycle or electric moterbike which they offer). The energy of this place is truly special. The people who run it are so open, kind and are really honoring the land, the locals and the community. Dune Alaya will feel like a loving home away from home. Super good price/quality! Take your mosquito repelend :).
