Pallab (7/5): Great place to stay, provided you are willing to pay for the view - Very clean and extremely well maintained property with a Colonial touch. Rooms very cosy. Staff very helpful and well behaved. Basic breakfast provided. Quite a steep walk to the property that is difficult for the elderly or those with knee issues. Around 950m walk to get to the Mall.

The hosts' recommendations for location visits were on point. They even fixed and made appointments. Sharon took care of everything, including ordering food for us. Kitchenette utensils could have been better.
Parikh (10/5): A perfect retreat. - We absolutely loved staying here. The English Cottage combines the best of a hotel and a homestay. Clean, elegant, cosy facilities, with a personal touch. Breakfast in this legendary Darjeeling family's own dining room is a real highlight, and they're full of wonderful suggestions and tips. The views of Kanchenjunga are spectacular!

Helpful staff Very strange setup of property - guests not allowed to use common indoor areas in property...dining area has common area, but all of it is off limits for guests apart from breakfast. Its so strange - apart from breakfast, all other meals you have to take in your room, however many days you stay. And unless you are going out, you have to be holed up in your room - indoor common area off limit for guests - so not a good place to plan a leisurely long family vacation

Parikhit (10/5): Old World Charm at Darjeeling - The English Cottage has to be the best place in Darjeeling! This was our second visit to the hill town and missing out on a booking the previous time, I booked this place well in advance having been mystified by the images and certainly the high praises. It exceeded our expectations-be it the breakfast, the comfortable rooms, and the home like feeling. The cherry on the cake is the uninterrupted view that you get of the Kanchenjunga range-we were blessed with good weather in the morning. I ought to mention the lovely breakfast conversation with Sanjeev and Sharon and the other guests there; watching the mountains, listening to anecdotes and realising the happy spread will remain etched in my memory. There is nothing that I can think of. The place was perfect.

In this era of customer service not being able to order or request for a cup of tea during the day and with faulty appliances in the room it didn't leave a good aftertaste.

She took care of us like her own children, even making sure that we did not miss our breakfast although we were leaving at 6:00 am ! Even the smallest of details were perfectly taken care of during our stay. My sincere gratitude to Shalla Madam. For any prospective travellers to Darjeeling our recommendation is to consider staying at the English Cottage and experience a fantastic hospitality. We had stayed in the room 180 degree, which offered us the best views of the mountains including Kanchenjunga peak on a lucky morning. The sundeck offers views of Nepal on one side, mountains in front and Darjeeling on the other side ,all of this from the comforts of your bedroom. My rating 5 stars plus .💐
