Guest Reviews
- Jourd (10/5): -
- Steve (4/5): Unwelcoming!!!!! - Very poor breakfast. Repeated breakfast. No one is there to guide for none Arabic guests Nothing
- Yousry (6/5): Pleasant -
- Anonymous (2/5): cheap and not worth it - price was good. no heater
broken floor
toilet wasn’t working
- Amgad (3/5): Poor -
- Ahmed (1/5): Bad -
- ahmedhassan007 (2/5): horrible - What a dirty and bad smell room with old furniture , very poor breakfast and very bad internet service ,the air-condition was broken and not working at all , the bathroom was clean but not so good it’s the worst hotel I have ever seen in my life ,.
- ahmedhassan007 (2/5): horrible - What a dirty and bad smell rooms with old furniture , poor breakfast very bad internet service the air-condition was broken , the bathroom is not so good it’s the worst hotel I have ever seen in my life .
- 455ss2019 (2/5): Mr. SS - Terrible experience with this hotel, despite of the location is ahhhh, near by the ventral. My room had 2 beds with very small size. I had to put them together to make as queen bed. The pictures on the website are fake or maybe when this place opened 30-40 years ago.
The room is absolutely outdated. Dust is every where. Furniture is collected off the recycle on the street.
I was itching the whole night and when I turned on the light, found bedbugs and you have to deal with the surprise.
Linen is extremely dirty and smell awful. Don't be surprised when you see a cockroach walking around in the lobby, restaurant or in your room.
Breakfast is just a local food and limited of choice, don't expect much.
Friendly staff, basic english communication which understood.
Internet is poor, signal always dropping.
There was a group of Young soccer or football team staying there and I believe they were local, lots of noise and if you did not go for breakfast before they come down, nothing will be left and you can't ask for breakfast. If you do, the answer is breakfast time is finished, even though if still 0900 am.
Local coffeshops around, when you exit the hotel, turn right and you will find restaurants, pizza place and supermarket.
Shouldn't name HOTEL, should be named HOSTILE or shelter.
Don't expect a computerized invoice, they still working back to dinosaur time and black and white movies which is big registration book.
The location should be inspected by Ministry of Health and Ministry of tourism for the hygiene and license.
- Freq_traveler20 (2/5): Worst stay - Rooms are terribly outdated, no internet service even though it's listed as one of the amenities, air condition unit is broke and unusable, old CRT TV with broken remote control.
Very bad experience, had to cancel my stay after one night.
- mohamedo753 (6/5): not bad and not good - I was in this hotel at the first time and i found the hotel not good and not bad but unfortunately i didn't spend a lot of days there but as general it's good. The staff was very kind but the rooms was not totally clean and the bed was not comfortable . Tv is vet small and fridge is very old but the location of this hotel is very good near to Nile and Cairo Tower.
- Romaica (8/5): It's your money's worth - This was my longest stay ever at any hotel (almost a month). I needed a basic hotel as I was doing my CELTA in the British Council Agouza and that was 5 minutes walking distance, which is perfect in Cairo!
It's a three star hotel so I didn't expect much. My room was spacious, it was a single room but I had two beds. I had a nice view from my window and balcony looking at the street. The mini fridge was big enough to put the food I bought. The TV and AC were working well. There is wifi on every floor and in the lobby which was pretty stable and came in handy for my work. The furniture isn't luxurious, very basic and practical. There is no kettle in the room.
Breakfast was basic but good enough. The staff starting from the receptionist, cleaners and waiters were attentive, friendly and helpful. Whenever I asked for something, they immediately took care of it.
There is a pizza/crepe place right in front of it, several supermarkets and pharmacies around it. There is a local bakery and two local cafes beside it. It's a 15 minute walk to Mohandeseen (el batal Ahmed Abdl Aziz street and Gamet el dowal). It's 5 minutes from the Nile (korneesh) and on the other side is Zamlek, so you can easily take a taxi to get there.
If you're on a budget and need a hotel in downtown Cairo, then Mayorca is your best choice.
- Bella8887 (4/5): Very basic. - As most of the other travellers, I stayed here on a group tour. The first couple of days were fine. Everything is very basic. The bed is average, the show works but has little pressure, many of the door knobs are difficult to work but I could sleep, clean myself and use wifi so I was pretty happy apart from the lobby being filled with cigarette smoke. When we returned though, there was no way to warm myself up (it was in a cold snap in the middle of winter). The shower had no hot water or any pressure. There were no spare blankets around but the worst thing was the bed. I had two beds in my room and both had minimal padding on them. No matter how I lay, I could clearly feel the springs digging in to my back so the on my return I couldn't really sleep or clean myself. Next time, I would rather than just stay in a hostel.
- 937kassiec (6/5): More of a hostel experience - Accommodation supplied by tour group company, stayed one night. Average accom hard beds, very outdated and old linen. However service staff very friendly and reception not to hard to communicate with. Just very very basic accommodation, wifi average also but for free. Not very close to the centre but lots of small mini markets near by. So To see sights was a bit of a trek via taxi or walking.
Not somewhere I would choose to stay, however very accommodating in letting us leave other items in hotel while we were on tour. So that helped a lot.
- 691RAB483 (8/5): Friendly staff, large clean rooms, good air conditioning - Our group stayed here during a group trip around Egypt and we were very pleased with the hotel. It was quiet, clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was included and there was a good selection though some of the breads were stale. The area the hotel is in is quite "back-street-ish" and although I felt safe I was careful when walking around alone. The hotel has free Wifi and there is a corner shop a 2 minute walk away.
- benjaminm599 (8/5): More than satisfactory - This is really quite a good hotel for the range, with clean, air conditioned rooms and very helpful staff. Wifi is solid. The local area is fine for walking about and mixing with the locals and it's easy enough to get to the Nile on foot if you want to. Exceeded my expectations after reading some reviews.
- ManalB_12 (8/5): Very Nice Hotel - The hotel is good for the amount of money you pay ,the rooms are clean , the breakfeast is good and the staff is friendly and it is near from the nile ,It's Egypt so don't go in expecting an amazing western clean 5star it is good for the money
- twistedtippy (8/5): Nice and off the beaten path - It was nice. It's Egypt after all so don't go in expecting an amazing western clean 5star. The staff were all friendly and funny. The rooms we stayed in (2 nts at the beginning of the Geckos tour, 1 nt at the end) were clean and nice. The shower in our first room didn't have hot water, but we were hot enough from the weather coming from Scotland so we didn't mind. The air con worked in the room and was nice and cold when we needed it. I didn't like the fact that you could smoke indoors but that's just my personal preference since I come from a Country where that's not allowed so it was a bit smokey in the lobby sometimes. The breakfast was nice and had something everyone could eat weather you're an Egyptian tourist or foreign, we tried everything from the pastry to the eggs to the bean-thing. I liked the location. It wasn't touristy and your smackdab right into Egyptian culture, I thought it was a good start. There was a shop down the street for groceries, a falafel place, a nice restaurant, a Sheesha cafe, an ATM not too far, the Nile was a 5min walk (depending on your traffic dodging skills). There's a Foreign exchange place as well, but sadly no one took the Scottish pounds I had on me.
- 640ChristineD (6/5): It's an ok hotel - We stayed here as part of a Geckos tour and were a little worried as to what to expect from reading the other reviews. The hotel is ok for what you pay for. The beds were clean, although a little hard. The bathrooms were ok (hot water but low pressure) but had issues with toilet not flushing. Overall the hotel is adequate and clean with friendly staff. The big down side though was the location - it is not in a tourist area so be prepared for a lot of staring (but friendly) locals. I would stay here again if travelling in a group but not if I was travelling independently.
- 311JohnV (8/5): Happy with hotel - Read reviews before I left about " do not stay there" but I was quite happy with standard and facilities so not sure why it had a bad rating.Beds comfortable and hot water-two main essentilas on any trip. If you like to mix amongst the "locals" this is the place to be. Also can walk to the Nile around the corner. I loved the fact that I could sit at the corner and sip tea with the locals. A couple of cheap Swarmas nearby as well.
- EricF143 (6/5): Not the best hotel in the world...... - My partner and I stayed at the Mayorca hotel for 2 nights at the start of our Geckos tour of Egypt. The hotel staff did the best they could to help us out and were kind and friendly with their service but the actual hotel and rooms were pretty bad. The whole place is very old with a shonky lift that's in my opinion dangerous due to there being no safety door inside so you can watch the floors pass as you go up and touch them if you dare. The rooms are very average, not dirty but old and worn down. I'd stay there again if it was organised by a tour but that's it, it definitely gave us the full 'Cairo experience' haha
- blondegirl27 (6/5): Don't stay here unless you have to - We stayed here as part of our Geckos tour- like most others from the reviews. The hotel was pretty tired. I thought of the word dire about most things- the food for breakfast, the breakfast room, the lobby, the rooms, the shower. While it was very clean (sterile) the rooms had no atmosphere. When you return from a day out in Cairo it is not inviting. My sister stayed in a single room for a night that smelt like an ashtray. Her towels and bedding smelt of smoke. The location was ok, and it was cheap. The rooms were cold and we had to use our sleeping bags for extra warmth.
- AnkeB85 (6/5): Quite okay - We had a spacous room with two beds and a balkony. Room was okay, but could alittlebit cleaner. The besttime of this hotel is definitly over. Housekeeping was just average. Breakfast was Nescafe with creamer, different types of bred, package marmelade which was not eatable. Some cheese, tomatos and cucumber. The best was a small cake/muffin.
- YasandTim (6/5): Bad location but decent room. - We stayed here as part of a tour. After reading reviews I wasn't expecting that much but was pleasantly surprised. The room was spacious and clean. I wouldn't choose to stay here as it is not in the greatest location but as part of a tour it was fine.
- Tom_B954 (8/5): Ok hotel, good value for money - I stayed in this hotel as part of a package tour, and it is not as bad at all. My room vas spacious, had a double bed for myself, the bathroom was clean and the breakfast was OK. Staff at the desk were helpful, and helped me with small things and information. I guess this hotel is not for someone who is expecting 5 star, but for a budget price this was pretty decent.
I had a pleasent stay here.
- AuroraPolaris (4/5): Choose another hotel - The only reason I stayed here was because of Gecko and they have to find another accommodation for their guests.
First, the location sucks. Taxi drivers hardly find it and it's in a no-tourist land. The rooms are all gloomy (I stayed in three different rooms), and what is considered clean here includes pubic hair both in the sink and the bath tub. Water comes and goes, AC's work randomly and lamps don't work.
On my first day at Mayorca I asked the receptionist to find me a taxi. A private car turned up, presumably a friend/relative. A white taxi with meeter passed by and I wanted to take that and not the private one. They tried to pay the white taxi off the site and persuade me to drive with their friend. I denied, took a white taxi and paid 15 to go the Coptic area and not 25 as the receptionist claimed the cost would be.
There are two positive comments to make about this hotel; free wifi and friendly staff in the restaurant. But do yourself a favour; find another hotel when in Cairo.
