Guest Reviews
- Stuart (7/5): Good, could have been so much better - We didn't go for breakfast as there were 4 coach loads all going so we missed it The TV in the room was tiny, the lady on the front counter was surly, the hotel itself needs upgrading in some parts
- Evelyn (8/5): Very good -
- Christine (6/5): Ok stay - The location was great. Staff were friendly Didn't get breakfast as it was too busy. 1 hour from 7.30 to 8.30 am is not enough time to serve everyone.. Drinks are very expensive and are not of great quality. Room was OK but could have been cleaned better. Stains on bed sheets.. Would not stay again.
- Victoria (8/5): Very good -
- Heather (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bev (3/5): AVOID !! - Avoid Avoid Avoid !!! Unless you are on a coach trip !!
Arrived early to a frosty reception
Asked if we could get a drink to a response of NO nothing until 3pm !
To top it off no room for us to have a meal
Said fully booked ( was offered to share a table )
Appalling attitude 2
We found a pub further down and managed a late lunch instead !!
The room view was another building !! So curtains closed !! The room was miles away on wet carpet
Room smelt of paint too
Just glad we left at 6am !!!
- Valerie (9/5): Superb -
- Ashley (5/5): Passable - The location was good The check in staff in the day we arrived were rude, which ruined the night for us
- Catherine (10/5): Wonderful staff and a great place to stay - The hotel is beautifully situated with breathtaking views. The food was absolutely great with good quality ingredients. The hotel is well laid out with lots of space. But it’s the staff that really make it. They are helpful, kind and experienced. I would say that the room we were in was a little dated but it was clean and well maintained so no real issues there.
- Charles (8/5): Budget hotel value for money .friendly staff - Budget hotel excellent value for money entertainment. breakfast .warm clean room all for under £40 per person. cleanliness could be improved
- Thomson (10/5): Excellent from the start - Great 👍 Nothing it was so good
- Hannah (2/5): Won’t be going back - It was in a good location nearby to pubs and shops with a great view out front. The bathroom was covered in mould, there was an air freshener consistently going off in the room that appeared to be coming through the vents. When I contacted reception they appeared to have no idea what I was talking about and didn’t see an issue because it wasn’t a “bad smell”. I did tell them that this was causing an exacerbation to my asthma which impacted my ability to enjoy my stay.
Breakfast is served between 7.30-8.30 which we didn’t attend for so unable to comment on the food. Also feel that breakfast should be served for longer than an hour.
We arrived at the same time as a coach trip and we felt that if you’re not part of the coach trip you are treated significantly differently. Our room wasn’t ready on arrival because “the private rooms hadn’t been checked” but the coach party got their room keys straight away on arrival. We had to sit in the bar area with our luggage while the room was checked. We asked about the ability to get some lunch to be told this wasn’t an option. Some of the staff were ok but a couple were unhelpful, unprofessional and very rude.
- Karen (4/5): Not good. - Breakfast was exceptional Receptionist very rude and abrupt on check in. Hotel generally unkempt. Ashtray outside overflowing with cigarettes. Found a chocolate on our bedroom floor and there was some blood on the wall. Window in room draughty and quite cold, window showed signs of rot and heater in room stated do not cover but curtains covered it. Bathroom door wouldn't lock or close fully with minimal room between the door and toilet. Generally very disappointed.
- Marietta (5/5): Passable -
- Saranne (10/5): Great value. - Nice atmosphere, they had entertainment on and nice bar. Also beautiful location. Breakfast only between 7.30 to 8.30.
- Charles (2/5): Very poor - Location The room was filthy. Staff not very informative. They tried to sit a total stranger at our breakfast table when there were plenty of empty tables just needing cleaned.
- William (4/5): Disappointing - The location Room decor in 311 shocking man.
- Stephanie (9/5): Wee trip - The view fron our room was amazing Our room, 314, was very small
- Leo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sanchez (1/5): - I don't like it nothing from this hotel, I was fressing cold in the room was not heater ,not hot water sufficient, very smelly room , everything was updating old roting, windows bed filthy, horrible everything abaut it ,the staff really unpleasant. I never back to this place the most horrible holiday in hotels ways I ever been. Sorry!! I don't like anything abaut this hotel ,the worst hotel I ever been in my life. Sorry.
- Ian (9/5): Superb -
- Derek (8/5): Very good -
- Graeme (6/5): Pleasant -
- Suzanne (7/5): Good -
- Karen (10/5): Relaxing and peaceful. Will stay again - It was in an amazing location Room and bathroom was spotless but toilet seat had not been cleaned which was a bit disappointing. Bar and restaurant staff were so busy which made them come across rude.
- Annmarie (10/5): Very very pleasant and friendly - We were their for my mother-in-law Janet cochrane funeral and when they found out what we were there for all the staff when above and beyond for me and my husband Janet’s son Bed a bit hard for me lol I like a soft bed but a part from that nothing was wrong with hotel
- Kevin (3/5): Poor - Good location. Nice reception, bar and lounge. Staff friendly. Room 416.was filthy, surfaces in bathroom not cleaned, old dust on fittings, toilet area walls dirty, water damage on bathroom cieling, no cold water at all in sink. Toilet seat yellow and greasy.
Room smelled like a public toilet. Window latch broken and window could not shut. Very disappointed.
- Akash (9/5): Superb -
- Anna (1/5): SAW14 - The exit Everything else. Room was dirty, toilet looked like king Kong had been there beforehand, room wasn't ready when we arrived well after checkin time. Horrid smell in room Luke someone was baking drugs close by, ( looked up the smell online) food was disgusting, nursery children could cook better, we went out down the Rd to the local pub and didn't want to go back, would highly recommend the village inn. Went back to much noise and a bar that was the size of a pringle, could hav easily got into a fight over the minimal seating with the other guests and lack of tables etc. Went to bed in our cupboard, then went to see what delights we had for breakfast, shouldn't have bothered, how anyone can cock up cooking bacon I don't know and the scrambled eggs were at some point eggs but turned into egg spread with a pint of water, sausages were dry and possibly not even meat, no white bread for toast, go for the no breakfast option if you want to book up ho at halloween and get the scare experience, do you dare eat there?? Good slogan. Oh and check out at 10am but had the cleaner knocking on the door at 9.15 asking us to go as she wanted to clean. Over all, asylum seekers would take one look at this place and get back on the boat
- David (3/5): Poor -
- Paulette (6/5): Pleasant -
- Colin (3/5): Poor -
- William (9/5): Superb -
- Jodiew52 (10/5): Exceptional - The room was comfy, the bed was not too hard, the bar was great, the bartenders was funny, we had fun playing pool, and the food was delicious. We didn't plan for a longer stay. It would have been nice to have a deep bath
- David (5/5): Don't expect much, can be comfy...the rooms are ok,. - Good stopping off location on a long journey, I've used the hotel before, it's not a place to expect a high luxury experience but was previously comfortable and clean. The breakfast bar with 30 minutes to go before close had been ravaged with little left to choose from. I had to pick up the urn to get milk for cereal.
The coffee was appalling
What was left of the eggs weren't worth putting on the plate.
The staff were tidying around and weren't too bothered, not one asked if we were ok.
- Alan (7/5): Hotel caters mainly to tour buses, so meals are basic, but can be a good deal for solo travellers! - Nice location with a view across the Loch towards the Cobbler.
- Wilfort (6/5): Good value for money. Didn’t eat at hotel in evening but had good breakfast. - Clean rooms, clean bathroom and good breakfast Shower was awful!!!
Don’t expect to eat local as only chip shop in the village which was the very worst I’ve ever eaten
- Philip (8/5): No problem - Stayed before Local
- Anne (4/5): The Teapot Tale! - The location
Set a place in the bar for me as I had my dog
Friendly reception staff My veiw looking onto a cottage wall at the back of the hotel.
The radiator is really old, tired looking, and rusty room 218.
At breakfast, I asked for a teapot.....
Response that I received from male server
"If i give you get a teapot, then everyone will want a teapot, the cup that's on your table, use that."
The young female server got me a teapot and kindly brought to the bar where I had been seated.
Nice hot pot of tea. Thank you, young lady.
- Hilary (1/5): Bad -
- Freeman (8/5): Tired but good value - good value, excellent quiet location just off main road. lovely pub 4 minutes walk down the loch. free buffet breakfast hot and cold was adequate. staff great. beware its run by coach company as a hub so sometimes 200 people staying. didn't actually cause us an issue but time your visit to breakfast wisely !
- Mclaughlin (7/5): nice hotel. amazing location - Location and views Had, to wait 1,hour for room. Pillows were practically flat on bed
- Caroline (4/5): Relaxing and comfortable - The location It’s very old fashioned and badly needing a full refurbishment
- Ingrid (6/5): Great location to see west Scotland, good place to have a basic private room. - Location is great. Basic room was clean and comfortable enough. When I booked the room it stated that breakfast is included and served from 7am. I was disappointed that the breakfast area wasn't open at 7am on the morning I departed and there was no one at reception at that time. I had to leave early for a booked trip hence me not staying on much longer.
- Mark (4/5): Did the job but wouldn’t stay again - On the bank of the Loch. A bit scruffy and full of old people, I’m 55 and apart from my son I was the youngest.
- Liam (1/5): Poor. If you have a choice don’t stay here. - The property’s location was great. Such a shame that the hotel was so poorly maintained, poorly cleaned and cold. Unacceptably dirty. No effort made at all to make the rooms clean. The bed was made but the mattress can’t of ever been turned, there was dust balls on the curtains that had been up so long the colour had faded where they had been above the radiator. The dirt that was under the bed, down the side of the desk was foul. Honestly think the shining was more up to date. Breakfast was poor also. Didn’t expect much for £320 but this was really below par.
- Yvette (5/5): Passable - The staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful. The bathroom has been revamped and it is clean and modern The hotel is in a good location. The bedroom carpets need replacing. It is a pity that the flooring used in the revamped bathroom was not used in the bedroom too. It is easy to clean and would make a world of difference. Tour buses bring guests to this hotel and it is extremely busy, so by the time we got to breakfast at 08h15 there was little left. They said it would be topped up but it wasn't. It was even difficult to get a cup of tea. Perhaps it was just the dining room staff on that particular day that were not replenishing as they should.
- Christine (4/5): Staff make this hotel a special place to stay, - the location of this hotel was excellent with beautiful views and just steps away from the water of loch long. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming, the breakfast was very good, with a generous selection. Receptionist Elaine and assistant manager David went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable, thank you for that. This hotel is in much need of repair and redecoration, although this is already in progress & I am sure that when it all comes together it will be a wonderful place to stay,
- Deborah (4/5): Enjoyed the views , hotel not so much we felt like 2nd class - Great location. Views of loch long. Good car parking. It said there is a restaurant . There is if you’re on one of their coaches we had to have dinner elsewhere.
Due to there being 3 coaches in we were advised to come for breakfast between 8.30-9 to avoid the rush. We arrived at 8.50 the 1st morning & there was no food left & they were packing up at 9. Next day we went at 7.30 & got a reasonable breakfast.
We left the window open the whole time as the room smelt musty.
- Jack (5/5): Passable -
- David (8/5): Very good - The setting of the Caledonian Claymore is stunning and set in breath-taking scenery. All the staff were very polite and sociable. The breakfast was very good and Amelia did everything she possibly could to make sure everyone was looked after at mealtimes.
- Arran (6/5): Pleasant -
- James (6/5): Dated but cheap - Location for the price was good It was very dated the carpet etc in the block we were in desperately needed changing
- Jim (8/5): Perfect for what we needed. - Lochside location with beautiful view. Great value for money with super friendly staff. Dog friendly Hotel decor could do with an update
- Jane (2/5): Not nice stayed here 2 yrs ago hotel has gone down hill don’t know what foreign visitors thought - Location Lack of cleanliness no staff had to wait on room being cleaned had to ask for towels was not able to book diner carpets really filthy at dinning area ect
- Cecilia (1/5): Bad - Nothing This was one of them most horrible service experience I’ve ever had. If you want to stay in arrochar, don’t chose this.
- Diane (7/5): The staff are all lovely and friendly - Location was perfect, staff all lovely and chatty, room was clean. Floorboards Noisy but it is a lovely old building
- Elizabeth (2/5): Very poor - The location idealic the view fantastic The interior everwhere
- Daniel (8/5): Very good -
- Diane (3/5): Very disappointing - The location Receptionist not very welcoming, telling us on arrival you can't eat at the hotel as they have four coach tours staying, also that although breakfast was between 7 and 9 am but we should go for breakfast after 8.30 am when the coach tour visitors had eaten, I think this is unacceptable, had we known the hotel was so full we would most likely booked somewhere else. The hotel generally was a bit rough around the edges.
- Arthur (3/5): Poor - The views The food
- Carol (1/5): Bad -
- Laurian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Scott (1/5): Bad - Nothing body fluids on bed mould in bathroom no where to put toiletries. Staff from kitchen doing house keeping Every last thing was discusting
- Catriona (4/5): Not value for money, sadly does not put Scotland in a good light for the poor unsuspecting tourists - A hotel catering to coach parties in a beautiful location.
Room was lovely and quiet but very tatty ,I didn't have a problem with that as it seemed the hotel is being refurbished and I was in a room they had not yet done up. However while the bed was clean and comfortable and the wash-hand basin and inside the shower were all clean ,alas the rest of the room was not. Rusty bin in bathroom was an eyesore.
Outside the shower the shower tray was covered in hair .Towel rail was dusty as were all the sockets.Base of the kettle was dirty.
A lot of hair on the carpet and dusty and dirty elsewhere in the room.
Informed there was wifi when I booked but on arrival found out wifi was only in the bar not the room .Had I known I would not have booked.
Breakfast was a circus with the staff getting cross with me for not being in the right dining room.No one told me where to go when I checked in so I just followed the dinning room signs .Turns out there are different dinning rooms depending on wether you are in a coach party or not.
When I checked out the 3 staff at reception barely noticed me .Had they asked about my stay I would have informed them about the dirty room there and then.
- Elizabeth (9/5): Superb - Lovely location. We'll organized meals. A bit more thought could have gone into the dinner. Stir fry the veggies with some herbs or spices.
- Jonathan (8/5): Very good -
- Elaine (3/5): Bearable. - It was cheap and in the right location. The food was awful, why do you need roast potatoes with a cottage pie. The bread and butter pudding was awful, not a raisin or current in sight. I came away from there with food poisoning, something at breakfast.
- Joan (1/5): Badly in need of a refurb - Nothing Everywhere was run down. En suite shower was in need of a deep clean - a lot of black mould . Dirty marks/stains on doors and walls of bedroom. On going to bed there was a noise and vibration coming from whatever machinery was switched on in the room beneath our bedroom this kept us awake We thought it might have been a kitchen area.
Breakfast on first morning - overcooked and dried up sausages, overcooked scrambled egg.
On second morning the sausages and bacon were cold - we chose not to eat them.
Dining room carpet was not conducive to an enjoyable breakfast- it was disgusting with stains all over it.
- Laurian (10/5): Fabulous stay - Fabulous location and excellent staff Nothing
- Preece (6/5): Pleasant - Nice clean room. Good breakfast. Nice staff. Entrance & front looked quite tired.
- Alan (5/5): Passable - Nice location Evening meal very disappointed
- Billy (1/5): Bad -
- Juliet (4/5): Will not book here again - Location Very dilapidated, really could do with a good clean and freshen up. Room wasn’t hoovered, walls badly marked and windows inside could do with a clean and coat of fresh paint
- Barry (6/5): Did the job and was very cheap. - This was definitely a case of you get what you pay for.
Pool table in the lounge and despite the very small village a couple of good places to eat outside the hotel. The Village Inn was particularly good. The hotel was being renovated and so noisy workers in early with all the noise that comes with that. The bed was awful and the room a bit drab but by this time we were aware the recent takeover meant it was a work in progress, so it may be better for future visitors, breakfast was adequate.
- Jayne (5/5): Cheap but not great - Hotel is in a beautiful setting, Staff were nice the food was limited and costly for what you got. Eat else where. The room was OK but very dated and not very clean. With dust balls above the curtains, stains and marks all over the floor. Breakfast was buffet style was covered in water, sausage was inedible
- Glenn (6/5): Pleasant -
- James (10/5): Exceptional - Would highly recommend food very good Drinks a bit pricey
- James (9/5): Superb -
- Jonny (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mhairi (7/5): Lovely 2 night break away. Staff were very friendly and hard working. Breakfast was included and it wasnt a problem to c - Situation and views Shower head at side of bath for washing. Bathroom was very clean though.
- Dominik (5/5): Passable -
- Leslie (9/5): Superb - They say you get what you pay for, I certainly got more than I paid for.
Helpful staff.
Clean and comfy room.
Spotless bathroom.
A good evening meal.
Excellent breakfast.
Value for money. The car park and front grass could do with a good clean it doesn't leave a good impression when you arrive.
The shower was lacking power ( I know it's a big hotel).
Hallways could do with something on walls to cheer them up.
These are just small examples, I understand it's an uphill struggle after coming out of covid I fully enjoyed my stay.
- Robert (8/5): We’ll be back - Friendly , efficient and professional staff. Great location and good food
- Lenartowicz (5/5): Passable - Lot of parking space.
Friendly and helpful staff. Wi-Fi did not work in the room.
The kitchen closes very early, with no chance for an evening meal.
- David (1/5): Bad - Location Having water supply in room cut off with no warning. Could not wash shower or use toilet for over an hour and a half had to visit reception ( which felt like miles away ,couldn't have put us further away if they tried ) to get water to fill the kettle and to use toilet. Totally humiliating walking through the hotel with a mini kettle . People must have thought I was some kind of lunatic ,!!! Hotel was like a construction site ,
- Marie (10/5): Great value for money - The main building & bar & lounge & restaurant were lovely! It is bigger than we thought, room was quite far away from the main parts but it was still nice.
- Gerry (8/5): Very good - The receptionist on checking in was absolutely delightful. It was her 1st time on the desk alone but handled the process perfectly and would definitely come back just to chat more 😊😊
- John (8/5): great location -
- William (10/5): Exceptional -
- Deborah (7/5): very pleasant stay - the location
- Caroline (10/5): Exceptional -
- Raper (8/5): Very good -
- Ntoula (4/5): It’s a little sad because the location is amazing - The location is AMAZING It’s so old , the floor in the bathroom is not straight, the heating could be better . It needs renovation
- Maïda (7/5): Good -
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional - Everything Nothing
- Christopher (8/5): Very good -
- Michelle (10/5): Truth.. - Staff were very pleasant and helpful, the location was spectacular,we fully enjoyed our stay, We couldn't have dinner as we hadn't booked in advance and they couldn't give us table as they were fully booked, was disappointing as not many places in area to eat,but if id knew I would have just booked in advanced..
- Ruth (8/5): Cheap and cheerful - The location was stunning! Right on the loch. We missed breakfast because it was only on till 9.30am. The entertainment in the dining room was too notch!!! The hallway corridors didn’t smell great but the rooms were fine!
