- Faye (8/5): Loved it. - We love the history, furniture, fires. Breakfast needed some canned fruits like pears, prunes. Fresh strawberries.
- Hang (4/5): It’s not too bad but compare with the price and others accomodation is not really good. - Location of the hotel is amazing . It’s taking the mountain view. The staffs are so friendly. The room is cleanliness. The bedsheet is dirty. The bedside table is still have a lot of dust. Also the bathroom is not clean probably.
- Bayliss (8/5): We had a lovely relaxing stay with great food wine and hospitality - The decor and fireplaces we lovely big areas with plenty of space to relax and enjoy the views Bathrooms and exterior could use a renovation to improve the look and feel of the hotel
- Shelley (3/5): Overpriced and underwhelming — significant maintenance issues and not reflective of a premium stay. - The view and suitable decor for the era. We recently stayed at the Hydro Majestic and unfortunately felt the experience did not match the $700 per night price point.
While the staff were friendly and did their best, communication could sometimes be difficult, which made it challenging to resolve issues during our stay.
The room itself was quite disappointing and in need of maintenance. We encountered mould in the shower, a shower door that didn’t close properly, and a cracked bathroom vanity. The bathroom taps leaked onto the floor, leaving it constantly wet. The ventilation in the bathroom was also poor, with the fan only running briefly on a sensor, requiring constant movement to keep it on.
The overall condition of the room felt below standard. The tea and coffee facilities were basic, a cupboard light was visibly taped in, and the air-conditioning worked intermittently. When we tried using the fan, it stirred up noticeable dust in the room.
Comfort was also an issue. The windows could not be opened to let in fresh air, and noise from upstairs rooms was clearly audible. The TV was positioned on a side wall rather than in front of the bed, making it difficult to watch, and there was no access to pay TV for evening viewing.
Overall, the room felt tired, poorly maintained, and not reflective of the premium price being charged. While the location and history of the hotel are appealing, the accommodation itself needs significant improvement to justify the cost.
- Richard (6/5): Warm comfortable night .. breakfast could have been better - Views across the valley and comfortable lounge with fire and warm rooms Breakfast was disappointing and limited .. no burcher museli, no porridge, no berries, no egg station or omelette station
- Mariah (8/5): -
- Paula (5/5): -
- Sabine (4/5): Décevant - L’emplacement Besoin de rénovation
Peinture qui s’arrache dans la salle de bain
Petit déjeuner pas terrible. Café vraiment pas bon
Service au bar et au petit déjeuner catastrophique
- Sean (5/5): Going back in time. - Lounges Breakfast/ Dirty bathroom
- Peter (9/5): - Friendly welcome and recognition of our wedding anniversary; continuing excellent level of service.
My parents had spent their honeymoon there in 1942, and it occurred to me that it would be interesting to see the relevant register. The Front Office Manager swung into action, liaising with the Curator, who appeared with a large leather-bound book, and there it was, 2 June 1942! Very limited choice of zero -alcohol beer at the bar.
- Karen (7/5): -
- Quan (8/5): - Staff service was very nice and polite, especially Markus and Phuc Bar needs to improve on more Savouries, woodfire Pizza would be great
- Bartley (5/5): -
- Ashley (9/5): -
- Patrick (10/5): We had a wonderful time and couldn't have chosen a better spot to celebrate our engagement - VIew was fantastic Late night snack options could be nice (though we were exhausted and didn't check properly)
- Julie (10/5): We had a lovely 3 day stay at the Hydro Majestic. The hotel whilst old has a beautiful charm to it. The staff were extre - Clean, comfortable & had a lovely ambience. Nothing to not like.
- Anne (8/5): Fabulous to stay in iconic hotel - Iconic and beautiful! On occasions there was a lack of attention to detail- managing changes to numbers for high tea, needing toiletries that were asked for but not delivered.
- joshua (7/5): -
- Suzanne (9/5): Beautiful views in a lovely grand Hotel 🙂 - Beautiful views, lovely lounge and dining areas, wonderful artwork, nice buffet breakfast. Rooms are small but I guess that’s because the hotel is very old. It is looking a little tired in places but still very grand . Lots of stairs if you are staying on the upper levels.
- gary (6/5): Loved it except for the service provided by the head waiter in the breakfast room. Really bad mamagement. Overall our ba - Iconic building awesome The bedroom was on the smaller side
- Glenn (9/5): We loved this unique experiance & would love to return one day - The room was presented well, easy access to the room & all the eating facilities, we thoroughly enjoyed the fantastic & unique view The Belgravia room was a little smaller than we thought, if both moving around it was slightly challenging, limited access to fresh air & hard to un-fog the bathroom
- Munir (7/5): Hotel is very nice ,but our room was terrible - The property is just amazing and very well kept ,the valley view from the high tea room were fab When we entered at 8 pm the conceirge bluffed about no valley rooms being there although we wanted to pay for an upgrade,we checked on booking.com and those rooms were available. Then there was lot of mould in the bathroom walls between where the tiles ended.
There was constant noise of the bathroom exhaust all night ,Bed Mattress was not ideal cause when my patner moved at little in sleep the whole mattress shook and my entire sleep was disrupted,i felt horrible the next morning
We been to this hotel number of times but this time the room stay was very uncomfortable
- Fay (10/5): Exciting comfortable and welcoming - Ambience and service
- Mark Berthold (8/5): -
- Helen (10/5): Brilliant and friendly service. Excellent food. Fantastic atmosphere - Stunning location. Art deco interior creates nostalgia Loved everything about it
- Emad (7/5): -
- John (1/5): -
- madonna (8/5): Lovely location but very disappointed in the room - Location and access to the little towns. Views Our room faced a main road and railway line and the bath tub was dangerous.
- Ali (8/5): -
- Taylor (9/5): comfortable and pretty - gorgeous old money small room
- Jarrod (8/5): Charming but bedroom was very dated. - Did not have breakfast but the restaurant was had a lot of character.
- Mudaliar (7/5): Great food and friendly staff but needs a good clean - The views were obviously amazing (both in the common areas and in our room), and the food at the Wintergarden restaurant (including their High Tea) was fantastic. The staff were all attentive and friendly (couldn't fault them). I also loved the bar area where you can lounge on comfy chairs and take in the view whilst having a cocktail or reading a book. Unfortunately, the room was a bit of a letdown. The bathtub and the bathroom floor was dirty, and the bedhead had a layer of dust (I understand it's material and black so dust shows up easily but it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in over a year). One of the little tables in our room was chipped, and in the wardrobe there is a small pull-out drawer to keep extra toilet paper etc which was badly chipped too. These are things that I didn't expect staying at the Hydro, especially for the price you pay.
- Justin (6/5): - The staff across the property are excellent. Friendly without being overbearing. Attentive without being imposing. Dinning options were very limited and the food average at best.
- Helen (5/5): Unique and nice , would come there again for dinning and drinks but not for sleep - Ok breakfast
Great history tour but should say its for two hours not one hour otherwise we really like it
Nice dinner
Nice bar area
Nice reception
Amazing views Small bedroom
Smell of mould in cupboard area
Cold in bar area at evening
Would be nice if pizza place is open for dinner not just lunch
- Adam (6/5): -
- Ellen (7/5): - Room was tight, with the larger bed.. limited storage to place luggage & clothes.
- Sally (9/5): Superbly positioned in the middle of the blue mountains, an absolute iconic hotel - The views from our room were spectacular. Comfortable bed. The ambiance was of yesteryear with stunning Art Deco architecture. Iconic hotel that you must try once in your life. We had high tea in the restaurant after a day spent hiking, and supper in the relaxed bar with cocktails and more magnificent windows perfect for sunset watching. Breakfast Bathroom is small but definitely adequate, however the extraction fans are motion sensor activated the moment you don’t move for a second it stopped so after showering the room stayed damp and fog filled.
No coffee machine! In the room, I personally think pod machines should be supplied in properties 4 star and above.
Lack of correct cutlery in the restaurant and no serving implements at high tea I would prefer tongs to pick up food.
- Jamil (6/5): - The heritage the building has. Old outdated, no room service. No conceriage, dust in the room. Spider webs inside the room, no global tv channels and the tv was old.
- brian (7/5): Staff are great. The view is the key for staying, limited access to this at breakfast is a let down. - Staff are great and the old world charm is amazing with a great view for the location, which is why we chose this place. You have an amazing location which is why we came there. Limiting seats at breakfast to not allow people to sit at the available/possible window seats is where you failed as an establishment and will make me think twice about coming back again.
- Theresa (7/5): We’re so glad to have finally stayed. - Breakfast was great. The staff for the most part excellent. Particularly the ‘junior’ staff or those that seemed like they may still be in training - they were really keen to help and make things as comfortable for us as possible. The room cleaning staff were all friendly in the corridors. We really only had one staff member, a more senior person who greeted us on arrival in the restaurant- a few times he was quite dismissive. Our room had a musty/mouldy smell to it. When we were settled it, it was obvious that this was because the carpet at the join of the bathroom door had obviously been wet at some point and the rotting carpet/underfloor was moldy.
We also felt that all the exterior, and some of the corridors/stairways could do with a high pressure hose or coat of paint. It definitely deminishes the beauty and grandeur of such an historic building.
If it was all maintained to the level of the restaurant it would be magnificent.
- Monica (10/5): -
- Ashok Phillips (7/5): good - Location
- Nadja (6/5): Will definitely be back for high tea and that spectacular view. Just not sure we’d spend the night again - The view was spectacular
Staff were friendly
Bed was comfortable enough. The cleanliness of the room and bathroom. Extremely dusty and lots of mould.
- James (9/5): - Location was excellent Has to turn air-conditioning off as it was a little noisy.
- Robyn (7/5): - Chap at reception gave very good advice on what to visit in the area.
- Peter (10/5): -
- Mark (7/5): Beautiful heritage accommodation with great views - Central location, well maintained and beautiful views Lack of information from book in desk staff.
We were looking forward to dinner in Wintergarden main restaurant.
Young lady on reception failed to advise that restaurant was unavailable due to large wedding party and didn’t discuss other available options, my wife found out from a waiter in the lounge afterwards.
Very poor customer service for a venue of this caliber
- Alam (10/5): -
- Monique (7/5): Enjoyed staying here again. - I always love the ambience of the hotel.
Some of your staff were outstanding in the service they provided. Some of the staff were a bit snappy.
The oysters we ordered on Saturday night were not good. They were described as kilpatrick but were not cooked. If this was intentional it was not successful.
- Mike (7/5): Great location, great to travel around to blue mts, hotel design is cool but the dinner and breakfast were terrible - The views amazing! And the room was fantastic The food at winter garden was awful, not worth the 115
- Faranak (7/5): -
- Nikita (9/5): Comfortable stay with Picturesque views - Very informed and friendly staff. People are the highlight of this accommodation. Warm and friendly. Beds are bit soft : if I had to critique anything at all.
- Greg (9/5): -
- Blake (8/5): -
- Sarah (9/5): -
- Frank (9/5): - This hotel has tradition not usual in many hotels. Old world personal service. Expensive but silver service is what makes this hotel an attractive experience
- Jill (8/5): Spectacular hotel, hence the price. Breakfast buffet was not the best though. - Upgrade to a room with a view was wonderful. Bed was so comfortable, couldn't believe it. Hot breakfast buffet was disappointing, cold stodgy eggs.
- Anna (7/5): - Stunning views and room was spacious. Good public transport connections. Room in need of some decoration and en-suite refurbishment. Exterior of the hotel looking tired. Nothing much else in Medlow Bath other than the Hydro Majestic.
- Deb (9/5): -
- Daniel (4/5): - The view was good I didn’t like the level of cleanliness, especially for the price. The room was not clean and dusty, the bedsheet smelt like aftershave, the velvet bed head was dirty. The facility was quite basic and tired.
- Alexey (8/5): - The restaurant and the bar at the hotel are good place to spend a time.
Overall, you will enjoy staying overnight. Rooms are dated and require refurbishment.
There are no Hydro, no swimming pool, even no Casino. Only Casino sign on the building.
The description of the place does not promise all of it. It is accurate.
Just be aware.
- Claire (8/5): -
- Tara (8/5): -
- Sarah (8/5): - Gorgeous deco features. We didn't have mountain views.
- Angela (5/5): Disappointing - The view was amazing and the history is fascinating. It would have been an amazing hotel back in it's day.
The Entrance hall and Belgravia wing were beautiful and reminiscent of the history of the hotel. The hotel has so much potential but falls short. The bar is depressing - black walls, black curtains, black upholstered furniture and black carpet. It would be good to introduce some background music to add to the atmosphere, table service and more food options.
The black theme is continued in the small bedrooms, including black lamps and black curtains. Everything smelt a bit musty.
It's such an iconic place - it just needs some love and some creative input to bring it back to life. Get rid of the black and fill it with beautiful antique pieces like the Belgravia wing. Create an outdoor space to sit and enjoy the view.
- Anthony (7/5): Fantastic views and lounges balanced the weaker factors. History of the place also fascinating. - Disappointing that the menu in the main restaurant was not varied each day.
Bedroom slightly too small and air conditioner struggled
No swimming pool
- Peter (8/5): -
- Sue (8/5): A very comfortable stay in a grand old building. - We loved the amazing old buildings and the gorgeous decor. Nothing
- Mandy (9/5): - Amazing views and the atmosphere of the Hydro is brilliant. I felt like I was on the set of an Agatha Christie movie. The renovations have been sympathetically done to reflect the individualism of the Hydro and in keeping with the era whilst still being able to bring in facilities that we expect today. The food at the restaurants was very good and the staff were very attentive and informative. I can't wait to go back.
- Lisa (8/5): Old style magic - Loved the history and style of the property. Facilities and main lounge area were great. The room was tiny for 2 people and the floors sqeaked which was a problem during the night.
- Gabrielle (8/5): -
- Frank (10/5): -
- Stuart (6/5): Okay as a one night stop off. - Good location and amazing views. Room was jaded and not too clean.
- Michele (8/5): -
- Timothy (8/5): Interesting place, so big felt a bit soulless - Great views and interesting history No pool, no place to sit outside and take the view in.
- Louise (6/5): - The views were spectacular. The room wasn't clean. There were stains on the cushions on the bed and grubby marks on the door frame. There were also small hairs in the shower and dirty finger prints and grubby marks on the tiles in the shower.
- Margaret (8/5): I had international visitors and they loved it - Beautiful and historic
- Pooja (10/5): -
- Zachary (10/5): -
- 효진 (1/5): A Grand Facade, An Underwhelming Stay - The positive aspect was the staff and location. They were genuinely kind, welcoming, and professional, and we truly appreciated their service, you are be able to get easily where to go. This property marketed as a 4-star hotel, I had certain expectations. While I understand it is a heritage building, the condition of the rooms was extremely disappointing. The bathroom bin was rusted, there was visible mold on the tiles, the cabinet housing the fridge had peeling coating, and the hairdryer was in such poor condition that I genuinely hesitated to use it.
For the price I paid, the overall room maintenance fell far below what I would expect from a 4-star property — honestly, it felt below the standard of motel.
Regarding the breakfast, variety was limited, and the coffee was honestly one of the worst I’ve had at a hotel of this level.
I will not be returning. If you are considering staying here purely because of the “5-star” label, I would strongly suggest reconsidering. You may find better value and comfort in a well-rated Airbnb, and you can enjoy the Blue Mountains views far more beautifully at Echo Point without paying premium hotel prices.
- Matti (10/5): I have waited 50 years to stay at the Hydro Majestic, and it did not disappoint 😊❤️ - Location and history Nothing
- Melissa (5/5): Lots of dead bugs in the bathrooms throughout the hotel. - Whisky room with the fire place over looking the view If feels disorientated like it doesn’t mesh together
- Jack (10/5): -
- John (10/5): very good - No breakfast price of food in dining room. Not a large variety on the menu
- Michelle (8/5): -
- Williamson (9/5): -
- Ross (9/5): It was perfect place to celebrate an important occasion. - Amazing furnishings displaying a past era. A few too many stairs for some older ones in our group.
- Belinda (3/5): - Nothing
- Sally (9/5): -
- grace (10/5): -
- Rachel (7/5): -
- Jonathan (9/5): -
- Olivia (5/5): - We loved that the Hydro had friendly staff and was close by to local sights The bed in our room was terribly uncomfortable and that was an upgraded room which we paid extra for. The mattress must have been old and was extremely soft and worn. Also the bathroom and side tables could have done with another clean over, they were So dusty
- Keith (10/5): The staff were excellent. The gentleman on reception was so pleasant and anxious to please. Impress - View and cleanliness and the old fashioned fitments in bathroom N/a
- Gabrielle McAnespie (7/5): Overall, we enjoyed our stay at The Hydro Majestic Hotel at Medlow Bath on the NSW Blue Mountains. - The evening meal provided in the dining room was delicious. The bar was great and served the best non-alcoholic cocktail EVER. The original building has been beautifully renovated. The cleaning could have been of a higher standard - especially in public spaces.
- Nizza (9/5): Pleasant with all our bedding requests met and centrally located in the Blue Mts. - View was great from our Heritage Room. Buffet breakfast was good and the staff co-operative and friendly. Bathroom sink too small and the ledge above it stuck out over the sink so that it was difficult to wash one's face or brush teeth.
