- Swart (8/5): - We enjoyed the accommodation very much Dinner was not up to the standard of the rest of the lodge. It was very mediocre and not enjoyable.
- Carol (10/5): Luxury in the Bushveld - The wilderness camp is the ultimate luxury glamping experience. I booked this stunning place for a long-delayed celebration. Our stay turned out to be a boutique offering, with wonderful people who clearly love what they are doing, whose attention to detail is stellar, and who work well together. The manager on duty, Andre, is incredibly knowledgeable and warm, and the welcoming team and communication is top-notch (thanks Mulamuleli).
In addition to the views, proximity to animals, comfortable room, pool, and facilities, it would have been worth driving the 500km just for the delicious dinner. I hereby abandon all restraint and recommend the chocolate mousse (which was clearly made from scratch). Thanks Itu.
The night game drive on the expansive grounds was a unique experience, and though windy, the animals, and stars made it magical. Thanks Michael.
Don't be distracted by the tent and camp description. Mapesu is a gem, and I hope that more people can experience its loveliness near the site of one of our continent's ancient civilizations (Mapungubwe). The facilities and the rooms (in the tent) are spotless, comfortable, well-designed, and safe. We enjoyed the outside bathrooms, and we are already planning a return later in the year. Everything worked and the team are attentive to even the smallest needs of guests. Easily the best way to welcome the new year in.

- Ilse (10/5): Exceptional - The luxury tent we stayed in was very comfortable. The mattress on the bed was of high quality, ensuring three nights of good rest. Everything was very clean and neat. The bathroom area above the shower is open, so in winter it might get a bit chilly, but we were aware of this beforehand, and it was still lovely to take an early morning shower. The bathroom is modern, and the large bathtub was definitely a bonus.
The only two things I missed were a mirror in the sleeping area for blow-drying hair, and perhaps an extra small cabinet or surface to place personal items, as there is more than enough space.
The staff were exceptional — very friendly and helpful. The chef's food was absolutely outstanding! We will definitely return.
- Peter (8/5): Peaceful, quiet! - Really in the bush, tranquil, Tent needs a door to bathroom, not a zipper, difficult in night to go without waking partner up!
Food was slightly above average, but not great!
Expensive for SA residents
- Wassily (10/5): Exceptional - Great tent, great location, great host, great food - 10/10!
- Leon (10/5): If you want to visit this part of South Africa, Mapesu camp is an excellent choice. - The location, camp layout, common facilities, staff and food were amazing. The trip to the cave is worth it. The proximity to Mapunbugwe is also a positive aspect. The details available on Booking.com did not clarify whether food or other activities were included (it was not). So carefully analyse the package being offered and do not assume anything.
The toilets at the tents are constructed very low and someone with mobility issues may find this very uncomfortable.
- Tshifhiwa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicholas (8/5): All in all, a very pleasant stay at Mapesu. - The food was good, the view was good, the location was excellent, relative to Mapungubwe. The facilities at Mopane are excellent. They need to put in some fridges into the tents!!
- Jv (9/5): Cool glamping tents with amazing ensuite bathroom. Very friendly staff - + Very friendly staff, quick check-in and the ladies showed us our glamping tent. Our friends were staying at the campsite but they were not hesitant to show us the way to the camping grounds.
+ The glamping tent was very convenient and the ensuite bathroom was amazing!
+ I fell in love with the design of the reception/restaurant lodge. - Nothing, everything met our expectations. We travelled in a large group with guides, so we don't know if there are any activities that the lodge offers.
- Marissa (10/5): Oh that view!! - Bushveld heaven!! Everyone was very welcoming, the rooms are so luxurious and the beds are super comfortable. The meals were also delicious. Mapesu Wilderness camp will see us again.
- Tracy (9/5): Fab bush lodge , we stayed in the wilderness camp that was 15 mins drive to the main lodge where you could get food serv - Fantastic bush camp with excellent facilities The wilderness camp should have a little kitchen for self catering
- Freddie (1/5): Nice place and facilities but manager made it all and all a bad experience - Manager were very bad , no room for versatility on breakfast Manager very arrogant
- Maluleke (9/5): Superb -
- Tapiwa (10/5): Exceptional -
