Guest Reviews
- Eilidh (7/5): While the staff were helpful and the location was good, the condition of the property did not meet our expectations. - The property was in a great location, close to the centre of Shrewsbury. The bed in the double room was very comfortable. Had no issues with sleeping, and the kitchen was spacious! Unfortunately, there were several issues during our stay. The property was not particularly clean when we arrived, with sticky floors and hairs left in the bathroom sink. The accommodation also did not look like the photos advertised, which was disappointing.
We experienced a leak from the shower during our stay. However, the staff dealt with this very efficiently and had it repaired the same day while we were out, which was greatly appreciated.
There was also an issue with ants in the property. We left a rubbish bag on the floor and returned a couple of hours later to find a large number of ants around it. This suggests there may be an entry point somewhere in the building that needs attention.
The kitchen was lacking some basic equipment, although we were able to manage. As the building is older, some wear and tear is understandable, including cracks and marks on the walls. However, there was noticeable dampness in both bedrooms and parts of the living room, and the heaters were heavily marked.
Overall, while there were some positive aspects to the stay, particularly the location and the responsiveness of the staff, the cleanliness, maintenance issues, and difference between the property and its advertised photos affected our experience.
- Michelle (7/5): - Location was good, only a short walk to the town centre. Tea, coffee and toiletries provided which was bit expected with a self catering property The mattresses were extremely uncomfortable as was the sofa, if staying for longer that a couple of nights I would have struggled
- Lynn (9/5): Great location… walking distance to shops pubs etc. Great place for a short stay. - Location was great. Tidy and comfortable for our needs. Nice powerful shower. Poor TV signal
- David (8/5): - Handy position. Had everything we needed.
- Baljinder (4/5): Let down due to condition and comforts of property - Location was good. Instructions to get in to property were simple and easy. Smell of damp in all the house. Needs tlc, as pictures in advert must be from when it was first decorated. Shabby interior decor wise and dull. Carpets in bedroom need replacing worn and stained. Cleaning is a let down all throughout the house. Sofa is uncomfortable and needs replacing. Bathroom needed a good clean and a shower curtain that was long enough, so water wouldnt pour in to the bathroom, and there was no bath mat either. Beds were ok, although main bedroom has a small sofa in it, that makes it difficult to manoeuvre around with very little space even to open window and draw blind. Living room rug was shabby and wooden floor needed a good mop. The owner was helpful when we couldn't find the property and communication was quick. Sadly the property needs updating and redecorating and some tlc. Property needs to be throughly cleaned top to bottom.
- Cliff (8/5): - Quite lovely area had everything we needed will definitely stay again x Everything we needed lovely area close to Everything
- Tracey (6/5): - Wonderful location, basically clean and well equipped The free parking only applied at certain times. Wifi was very patchy - used data re mobile phone and TV signal was pretty bad most of the time. Place just needed some T. L. C. - radiator in bathroom rusty, shower curtain too short, stains on downstairs radiator, etc, little things stopped it being really lovely. As it was, things were adequate.
- Angela (5/5): Need TLC - Perfect location for town centre but a very busy and noisy road. Needs some TLC. Fresh paint, cobwebs removed, heaters filthy do need replaced. Free toiletries are actually being used by previous guests. The noise from the bathroom fan goes on for a good 20 minutes after you turn it off and disturbs sleep. Bed has little room around it.
- Yvonne (10/5): - It was ideal for what I needed, and wasin a good area for doing different things. Nothing
- Leslie (9/5): If we are ever back down this way, we’ll certainly look it up. - Well located for the town centre. Quite nicely situated. Slight problem for car parking, but we got round it not too badly.
- Thomas (10/5): - Lovely little appartement. Perfect location for visiting shrewsbury folk festival.
Great shower ! Beds a bit to soft.
- Bernadette (1/5): - I liked the location. The accomodation is in dire need of a thorough clean & painting, bedroom door hanging off, took lots of photos to show how many things were not ok.
We left after 2 nights as we paid for 3. We were in Shrewsbury for a graduation from R.A.F. I would very much appreciate recompensation for third night.
Look forward to your responce.
- Ambrose (8/5): Very good location with easy access to the town centre. Easy to walk almost anywhere - The doors were stuck, windows wouldn't open. House very cramped and not very clean
- Anne (7/5): Generally good, and very interesting, but hard work! - The location was good apart from roadworks which made access difficult in the evenings.
The kitchen was well equipped
We enjoyed trip s to National Trust and other locations in the surrounding area. Bedrooms were somewhat spartan with no cupboards or chests of drawers. The front step onto the street was potentially dangerous and had no grab rail for safety. There was also no grab rail in the shower.
Traffic noise and occasional noisy neighbours sometimes made sleeping problematic.
Daytime parking parking problems limited what we were able to do in Shrewsbury itself and we found it easier to take trips into the surrounding countryside where there were some excellent locations.
- Kieran (10/5): -
- Amanda (5/5): Disappointing! - Good location and easy entry instructions on arrival. Musty smell on arrival and the upkeep of the cottage has been neglected. A tin of paint would go a long way. The bathroom was covered in hair in the sink and the shower. There was nowhere to hang wet towels, so we had to devise our own method by hooking coat hangers onto the shower rail for them.
The bedroom with the double bed had a ridiculous sofa in it, which took up all the floor space. Why this room wasn't set up like the smaller room was a mystery. The smaller room had a full-length mirror and a shelf with hanging space below. It was much better. The double bedroom had nothing but the sofa, no hooks or hanging space, no mirrors. The beds felt like camp beds and are not the comfiest. The oven trays were greasy, and to be honest, there was just a general grubbiness around the whole cottage. Very disappointed as it's a superb location. For all the reasons above, I would not stay here again or recommend it either.
- Rob (6/5): Shrewsbury is a great place to visit - The location is very good, most things you'd need were provided. Communications from the owners were very good. Shower was a good size and temperature. The main bedroom had hardly any room around the bed on one side and no hanging space at all, I feel the settee space would have been better used with a hanging rail. The bedroom door needs fixing at the bottom hinge.
The bathroom had nowhere to put anything other than the floor, a coupe of shelves would have been great.
The cleanliness was mainly OK but let down by some small touches.
I'd say all of the above are easlly fixed and meant as constructive critique, thanks for having us.
- Hine (7/5): Good - It was nice a cozy The bathroom wasn't that clean. There was hair in the shower
- Deborah (6/5): Pleasant -
- Rosario (9/5): Cosy cottage in a great location. - Lovely cosy property. Good facilities. Great location within 15 minutes walk of town centre and theatre. 2 decent pubs nearby. Unfortunately the property smelt of damp. I hope this can be sorted as this was the only thing wrong with our stay.
- Pat (10/5): We really enjoyed our stay in this very homely cottage. We walked to all Shrewsbury’s attractions. - Homely feel and convenient position for town
- Julie (7/5): Pleasant and convenient - Good value for money and close to the train station. Beds weren’t the most comfortable. Could do with some tlc.
- Hellsbells (10/5): Lovely cottage close to town - Great location. House exactly as advertised. Warm, clean, good WiFi and super close to town. The front room is a double room. On the weekend it gets a bit busy in the morning. If you're a light sleeper you might want ear plugs.
- Elen (10/5): Paz - Come here to leave my experiences for any guest who will stay in this apartment, the apartment is wonderful in a central area close to everything, the apartment has clean towels, clean sheets and the property is in perfect condition I recommend any guest to rent this accommodation I loved my stay
- Eva (10/5): Lovely property and great spot. Highly recommended. - The location was perfect close to town. Comfortable beds and well-equipped kitchen. Parking cross over road and free of charge. Felt it quite pricey but still recommended the property and location.
- Marie (8/5): Lovely stay in ideal location - Ideal location and nice house with excellent facilities. Hosts were very helpful. Could have done with more and larger towels.
- Carl (8/5): Nice location and self contained - Good location to walk to town centre or station, self contained with good facilities Had to park a few streets away
- Alexandra (4/5): OK for a very short stay - The bed was comfortable and I slept well, despite being on a busy road. It was generally clean. Access using the lockbox was straight forward and the hosts were responsive when I contacted them.
There appeared to be plenty of pots and pans, China etc, and washing up liquid, scourer, soap etc were provided.
There is tea, coffee and sugar, but no milk which another guest had said was provided. Parking can be tricky - I was very fortunate to find spaces.
The cooker is missing the handle for the top oven, and all the numbers are rubbed off, making it difficult to set the temperature.
The tiles behind the cooker are greasy and grimy.
A tea towel would be useful.
There was a mat for pet bowls, yet no pets allowed?
The shower has black mould around the bottom.
The heating was not on, and it was very cold on arrival - it took all evening to warm up.
The sofa in the lounge is very low and uncomfortable.
- Debbie (9/5): Superb - Very close to town. Accommodation was clean and had everything we needed
- Ashleigh (10/5): Perfect for Shrewsbury tattoo convention! - Perfect location for the tattoo convention at Shrewsbury prison. The owners were incredible and replied to my WhatsApp about the heating within 5 minutes.
- Cris (9/5): Dreamy Stay in Shrewsbury - It was a lovely stay. Had everything we needed. They even had shampoo, conditioner and shower gel in the bathroom, which was useful!
Short walk from the train station / town centre so great location. The place looks better than the pictures so little piece of feedback would be that the photos don’t do it justice!
An additional hand towel would have been useful fir the bathroom but I’m sure they would have provided one if we’d asked. So not a critique, but rather feedback.
- Permaul (7/5): Good -
- Ayla (8/5): Very good - Good central location, kitted out with all you need.
- Hannah (9/5): Great accommodation some bits need tidy up - Liked option of kitchen and cooking Busyness of main road outside
- Laura (7/5): Good for a stopover - Easy check in
10min walk to town centre Parking is not as close/ opposite as suggested.
Cottage smelt of dog.
Shower leaking
- Sharon (9/5): Very pleasant stay, fabulous location for town centre and the quarry - Location was amazing
Beds were very comfortable Unfortunate smell of cigarettes
Also would of welcomed a third chair in the living room/ dining area
- Anthony (7/5): Good -
- Emma (8/5): Lovely cottage, clean and tidy and ideal location. - The property was perfect and the kitchen well stocked with everything needed to cook at home. N/A
- Debra (8/5): Very good -
- Raelene (7/5): Loved the cottage and Shrewsbury! - We enjoyed the location with easy walks along river to city centre and station. The property is very comfortable, quite simple in style and easy to manage. Great shower!
See below re heating debacle......we highly commend Rhys's efforts to 'fix' the heating issue the following day.His clear instruction, offered in a warm manner, enabled us to very much enjoy our stay in the cottage On arrival property was VERY cold with no 'prior to arrival' heating which would have been welcomed. As guests we were unable to manage unknown settings on heating panel, called host who was unable to advise on phone and suggested a 'workman' would come at 9.30pm. Far too late for guests who had travelled for preceding 24+ hours!
We declined!
- David (10/5): Great location, short distance from town centre, well equipped and comfortable. - Clean, well equipped and convenient location. Nothing.
- Patrick (8/5): Very good -
- Mark (7/5): Good -
- Natasha_lohan (10/5): Exceptional - Loved my stay here
- David (8/5): A perfectly serviceable and agreeable property in an excellent location that I'd happily stay at again. - Location was superb. Facilities were perfectly agreeable. I was aware that parking was not on site but for me parking a rental car out of sight was a bit uncomfortable. The creaking top of the stairs and floor were a bit of annoyance in disturbing someone at sleep but I realise that this can't be helped.
- Jones (8/5): Very good -
- Matilda (8/5): Very good - Very well located
- Shelly (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julian (9/5): Superb -
- Kayleigh (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely cozy house. Quite small but excellent for short city break. Clean, tidy and well equipped.
Close to city and three pubs within stones throw. Woodman Inn particularly good.
Loads of restaurants within easy walk.
Parking outside on road handy. But need to fit in within restriction times. Otherwise free roadside parking 2 minutes drive, 5 minutes walk. All good
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good -
- Glenda (9/5): A great place to stay in Shrewsbury. Out of the hustle and bustle but just a short walk to the city. - This was a great alternative to a hotel room. With this 2 bedroom apartment, although fairly small, it was larger than just a hotel room and had kitchen and laundry facilities which is helpful. It was an easy walk into town and we found a park for the car across the road.
- Alastair (8/5): Riverside cottage, well placed for exploring the delights of Shrewsbury. - Location was excellent within easy walking distance of all the attractions in Shrewsbury, and very close to a leafy part of the city. The cottage is compact but has everything that one needs. Parking for free on road is very close, and the nearby 3 hour parking is good for unloading and shopping. An extra hand towel for each guest would have been preferable. Black mould on the kitchen lino (? previous flooding?) might need addressing.
- Kathryn (3/5): Very disappointing. - The location was great close to the station and handy to the town centre. Unfortunately this property had not been cleaned to a good standard. There were crumbs in the kitchen drawers and the dryer filter was so full the warning came up on the display. It had to be cleaned before use. The coverings on both couches upstairs and downstairs had marks on them. The cupboard doors in the kitchen and the upstairs bedroom couldn’t be closed and there were exposed pipes and holes in various walls. The heater in the bathroom and the lounge were rusting and didn’t look clean. There were used candles, scuff marks on the walls, very thin towels and no hand towels. It felt that very little effort had been made with presentation and it was very disappointing. I have been travelling since July and I’ve stayed in camping grounds, hostels, hotels and self contained accommodation and have them to be clean, well presented and comfortable. I want this to be constructive criticism as I know how hard business can be however it is essential for me that a property is clean, comfortable and well presented.
- Susan (7/5): Good -
- Susan (8/5): Girls night away - The location was excellent, very close to the centre. Could have done with a bean bag or small comfy chair, three adults on the sofa was a bit of a squish. Property could also do with a refurb, kitchen units an bathroom looked a little tired.
- Angel (6/5): Pleasant -
- John (10/5): Lovely little cottage style house ideal for city centre, would highly recommend - Excellent little cottage style house and only 5 mins walk from Castle and town centre, clean and tidy and lovely little house 🏠 Woodman pub 2 mins away which is a must visit including the secluded hidden beer walled garden Wi-Fi signal even though full strength didn’t work, couch uncomfortable and bed too soft but that is our particular views
- Fabio (6/5): Pleasant - The position is good if you travel by train, and it is not distant from the town centre.
The place was very clean.
It was nice to have the whole place for ourselves.
The place had a well equipped kitchen. Bedrooms were really narrow and the beds were not very comfortable.
Windows directly on the street and some traffic noise in the night.
Bathroom was rather narrow and a bit old (although the shower was ok).
- Elizabeth (8/5): Very good - Location is great.
- Darren (8/5): I was really impressed with Shrewsbury - excellent location central to everything parking is a bit of a problem and there is no storage space or wardrobes in the bedrooms?
- Nige (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (4/5): Disappointing and over-priced. - WiFi worked. Shower worked. Fridge, kettle and toaster worked. Mismatch between price (mid-market) and quality (low-end).
Road traffic noise was unacceptable. Bedroom space was inadequate. Shower curtain was torn and dirty.
Request to send detailed location and parking info in advance was ignored: low-end host behaviour.
- Graham (10/5): Exceptional - Everything you needed was there no need to shop for anything Nothing
- Michelle (7/5): Good location and close to the centre, a bit noisy as on a main road but didn't spoil our stay. - I like that the property is close to the centre. The property was fine regarding size and cleanliness. It was noisy outside the bedroom and couldn't sleep very well due to traffic and people walking past/talking loudly. We were right next to a pub which had noise too. The parking was a bit tricky at times.
- Bruce (6/5): Pleasant - Good location close to town centre Right on main road, too noisy to have windows open. No outside space.
- Peter (9/5): Superb - Location perfect, parking nearby
- Fred (8/5): lovely break away with my sister - nice location, ten mins walk into town
clean with everything you need The Sofa was like sitting on the floor, too low, and very uncomfortable
bathroom needs updating
- Anthony (8/5): We enjoyed our stay and it was a short walk to the town centre. - N/a N/a
- Shelly (10/5): Exceptional -
- Graham (9/5): Stay in shrewsbury - Clean, tidy and close to town.
- Leanne (10/5): stay was excellent would book again - location was great for where we wanted to go
- Judith (9/5): Superb -
- Bruno (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pauline (10/5): Perfect spot for a few nights enjoying Shrewsbury town and river walks. - Lovely little cottage perfect for 3 guests.
Easy to find free parking and property located very near and a short walk into the town centre
Nice walks along the river from directly across road from cottage takes you to the attractive green area of Shrewsbury.
Very good value for money, simple but had everything needed to make an enjoyable stay. Nothing springs to mind
- Shelly (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely little find. Washer and drier Netflix comfy bed lovely and warm
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - Whole experience, brilliant Had to go home (ha ha)
- Philip (10/5): arrived and turned the heating up a little had a very relaxed stay and would change nothing - very cosy and warm with all the needed facilities nothing
- Kha (10/5): Amazing location with great facilities - We really enjoyed our stay here. Location was great - pretty much in town centre and lovely walk along the river to reach it. Facilities were also great (cooker, microwave, washing machine, dryer etc). Prior to arriving we had a very informative message explaining parking which helped immensely. We had a comfortable stay, everything we needed was there and we really appreciated the tea and coffee provided too! If being picky, the upstairs could do with a little modernising although fully functional and cosy for us! We did have issues with the TV and the internet was down for a few hours (but that is more of the internet providers fault).
- Maria (10/5): Lovely weekend break away with my daughter lovely little house thank you - It was lovely so close to the large shopping area , train station and bus station . We went to visit the jail and took part in the escape room challenge . Everything within about 5 mins walking distance . Lovely to have quality teabags, coffee and sugar and milk left for us . Thank you
- Shelly (8/5): Very good - Location was great as was the quality of bed linen and mattress was super comfy The washer didn't work as water not connected
- Clare (7/5): The property is small but cute and is in a quiet area. Shrewsbury is a wonderful place to visit. - The property was clean and cute and located opposite the river, which was beautiful, The shower and cooker were easy to operate, the microwave and toaster worked well, The beds were comfortable, the bathroom was small but fine for our needs. The sofa was comfortable, and the dining area was fine. The property is about a 10 minute walk to the centre of Shrewsbury. Also, there are some great walks in the countryside around. I have contacted the team about various problems that I think are quite solvable. I guess some people might not like that you can't park near the property, you have to park about a 5 minute walk away. I didn't mind that, and the city is so small, you can do it all on foot.
- Mn (10/5): Amazing place is this price range, so I definitely recommend - I stayed with two other people whilst being at Shrewsbury for work. The cottage is in a convenient location with access to public transport within a 10 minute walk (bus station + train station). The cottage is well kept and everything was tidied and stocked up. The host responded to any queries and issues I had within 24 hours which is really great. There is always cars or people passing by so you do not need to worry about travelling alone.
I definitely recommend this place. The wifi was slow so it was hard to use for video calling people (important to consider if you are coming here to work).
The walls were thin so you could hear people talking outside and the passing traffic, but you get used to it after a while.
Other than that it was great, so overall I say it is a good place to stay within this price range!
- Donna (9/5): Superb -
- Joanne (3/5): Poor - Toilet stuck of sewage, bathroom could do with ripping out and replacing. V tired. Kitchen had knife and forks but that's it. No serving utensils or anything, which is very strange. On a busy road so lots of traffic noise and people walking by. Would not stay again or recommend
- Simon (7/5): Good value for money but status of property reflected that. - convenient location and price Front door exterior needed attention.
Bathroom and kitchen really need replacing
- Vikky (10/5): Cosy countryside feel cottage in the centre of Shrewsbury - Beautiful cottage in the centre or Shrewsbury!
Modern cosy furnishings, clean with all the essentials.
Cottage is well located right next to the river and easily walkable to shops and restaurants.
Host was really welcoming, even helped plan our stay giving loads of recommendations for food and activities! Wish we could have stayed longer, so much to see and do!
- Alison (1/5): not good for reasons above - property had not been cleaned after last occupant had left. indeed it wasn’t clear whether last occupant had left or others were gaining access to the cottage through the key lock box. property felt insecure. basic kitchen equipment missing and heating didn’t work and property very cold. although the manager came to the property some time after our arrival to try and sort out the various issues, it was too late in the evening to do this. we had no option but to seek alternative accommodation late on a Friday evening. the manager did however give us a full refund there and then.
- Scott (8/5): Very good -
- Donsab (8/5): Excellent accomodation all in all. - Neat and tidy. Nice beds. Nothing.
- Sharon (8/5): comfortable and convenient for town. - location - close proximity to town. had everything needed for a comfortable stay. No parking other than on the road. did manage to find a space not to far away.
