Guest Reviews
- Susan (7/5): Good - Beautiful location, so peaceful. The neighbours were friendly and helpful
- Deana (9/5): Superb - The log fire big time The chairs in longe
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Deborah (9/5): Lovely cottage - Quaint cottage in a peaceful location. Beautiful views of sunrise and sunset
- Jules (9/5): Perfect place to get away from it all - Really cosy and comfortable cottage. Equipped with everything that we needed.
- Ruth (9/5): We had a lovely stay would stay again - The fixture and fittings suited the cottage Nothing
- Paul (8/5): Great Cottage in quiet location. - Lovely cottage in a very quiet area. Beautiful surrounding countryside. We used it as a base for travelling around Northumbria. Everything needed was catered for, including tea and coffee. Kitchen towels. Washing up liquid, shower gels, and shampoo. Well stocked kitchen and even bird food to feed the birds. A variety of which visited the feeders often and can be seen from the front window. Absolute bargain price for the 4 nights. A house a couple of doors down offers fresh eggs for a small price. It seems a small thing, and not everyone will think the same, but we found the double bed a little small and the mattress hard. Understandable size wise, as the width of the room doesn't allow for anything bigger. Also two, two seat settees might make it a little more comfortable in the living room. We found that we ended up sleeping in separate beds, and I lay on the floor when watching telly in the evening in the living room. Everything else was as expected or better.
- Rachael (10/5): Beautiful cosy cottage - Beautiful cottage with a lovely log burner for cosy autumn nights. Rooms were spacious and comfortable.
Owner had kindly put up a temporary gate to make the garden secure for my dog.
Water was hot and kitchen had everything needed for cooking.
Parking available out front.
Quiet and peaceful area.
I adored the character of the cottage, would absolutely stay again. There is nothing that I didn't like
- Jackie (9/5): Quirky cottage in beautiful location. - Beautiful peaceful location with lovely views. Ideal for exploring local area. Lots of maps and guidebooks if needed. House is cosy and quirky and very well equipped. Lovely garden. Beds are comfortable. Kitchen and bathroom clean and tidy with everything you need. It is obviously a well loved family home and you can see there is a programme of refurbishment underway. Nothing. I would stay again if I wanted to be in the area.
- Denise (7/5): We enjoyed our stay and hopefully will be back in the future - We liked the peace and quiet as we live a rural life. Fairly easy to access A1 for beaches etc and walking. Well equipped and comfortable. Minor issues toilet door wouldn’t close from the outside, so was always open . Curtains in rear bedroom hooks missing needed to be hung correctly .
- Summers (7/5): Good -
- Rachel (5/5): Beautiful location but needs some work on the property - The views It’s very dated
Couch not comfy
Gardens needed cutting back
Lots of cobwebs
- Kate (10/5): Peaceful home from home - Peaceful location, lovely views, cosy homely feel to the place with everything you need. Beautiful front garden and close to excellent walks. The rear of the property let it down somewhat, felt rather unloved.
- Susan (7/5): Refreshingly unmodernised and full of previous occupants' furnishings. - Secluded location, quiet area, birds in the garden.
Unmodernised 50's furnishings.
Lots of local information leaflets which were very helpful.
30 mins by road to Newcastle if needed. Lighting could be stronger in kitchen and lounge.
Car essential as no public transport.
- Laura (8/5): Beautiful house in an idyllic location. - The house is beautiful, and in an ideal location for exploring rural Northumberland. House very clean with a well stocked bathroom and kitchen. The garden isn’t secure for dogs as it has no gate, and the place looks a little run down.
- Sue (8/5): Warm and welcoming, Simonside Cottage is in an idyllic location. -
- Pauline (8/5): Restful weekend Garden ideal Garden great for our chocolate lab - Beautiful location Cottage was lovely Everything we needed
- James (5/5): It was ok but I definitely wouldn’t rebook - Well equipped and warm It was very dated needs a complete refurbishment inside and out but particularly inside the property
- Jo (9/5): Superb - What a beautiful place, scenery is amazing. Perfect for a quiet get away.
Ideal for long and short hikes.
Very dog friendly.
Cottage is home from home. Very clean, with everything you need.
- Anna (10/5): I enjoyed a cosy stay at this property which was convenient to many of the sites in Northumberland. -
- Suzanne (5/5): Not quite there - Location was ok,
Not very easy to navigate to, thank goodness for sat nav.
Quirky and cosy, didn't bother with the log burner as was told not many logs in the store.
If you want something rough and ready then that's fine but I'll not be going back. Had to was dishes and pans before able to cook a meal, also needed to clean bath.
Not very well maintained unfortunately, this could be an outstanding place but it looks very neglected and tired.
It's a pity because it's got so much potential if it was invested in a bit more.
- Lynn (10/5): Amazing find - If you looking for peace and quiet, it's amazing.
Never been to a self catering cottage with a kitchen with so much . From herbs n spices to tea n coffee, etc etc If I'm being picky, the log burner had 1 piece of wood. I appreciate we were told it low and to buy some, but as such a feature it should have been topped up.
Also a 10.00am check out to early after a relaxing stay !
- Brown (10/5): Was a beautiful stay rothbury and Alnwick down the road - It was beautiful have nothing bad to say about it
- Richard (9/5): Superb - Old, charming but well equipped
- Mark (10/5): Peaceful relaxing and perfect - The property was absolutely perfect extremely well equipped fantastic peaceful location everything we needed was in the property and I would certainly stay again I did not stay longer
- Kev (10/5): Just what we wanted, very peaceful - Just what we wanted, very peaceful Nothing
- John (10/5): Our stay was just a little get away to relax. The stay summed that up. - Has to be the log fire. Nice glass of wine infront of the log burner listening to the rain. Beautiful Nothing. Our stay was great and we will be back.
- Hilary (10/5): Relaxing break with lovely views - Peace and quiet Nothing
- Jonathon (9/5): Fantastic location and so cosy and Beautiful - Location excellent and host was very accommodating. Loved our stay very homely and cosy just what we needed
- Andy (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing area Everything
- Sophie (9/5): Peace & tranquility, a home away from home. - From the moment we walked in it was like stepping back in time but this just added to the character and charm of the property. A home away from home with everything you need to make your stay comfortable. Prime TV and good Wi-Fi.
Peaceful location with great views across the fields. Blue tits feed from the bird feeder outside the living room window. Easily accessible to both the coast and national park. A great base for exploring. Amenities are 20-30 minutes away which is understandable due to the location, and it didn't affect our stay but something to bare in mind for anyone staying. Kitchen was missing a peeler and a collander, and couldn't work out how to use the microwave, but we got by.
- Boyle (10/5): Cosy cottage in a beautiful location. - Comfortable, cosy cottage, with beautiful views in a beautiful location, close to many wonderful areas of outstanding beauty. The owner of the property was very helpful and responsive to messages. Going home
- Kathryn (5/5): It suited us to be near our family but I would not stay here again - Location was beautiful and close to our family The cottage felt tired and uncared for and smelt musty. I’m allergic to mould.
Ther bathroom had black mould on the sealant, carpet on the floor with tiles propped up under the sink. There were toiletries left there ? From previous occupants?
Although there were no children in our group I don’t think it would be suitable for families with small children as the upstairs windows do not have safety locks on them and the stairs are fairly open.
There are extension leads upstairs in both bedrooms and in the main bedroom a cable that appears to be taped together.
There seemed to be stuff in bags under the beds
The kitchen was basic but cluttered with a lot of very old crockery and utensils.
The outside areas are not well cared for which is sad as it has the potential to be a beautiful little cottage.
- Denise (7/5): Enjoyed the beautiful area, but think a little attention should be paid to the cottage. - Lovely location and log burner was nice. Kitchen very well equipped. Grass not cut and too long to enjoy the garden,
It felt quite dusty and set my allergies off.
Could do with a good clean and lick of paint.
- Alan (6/5): Beautiful weather in a Lovely part of the country. - Sunny south facing garden which was good for our dog although she was never left unattended. Garden could have done with some T L C eg lawn cut.
Lovely rural views .
Easy parking in lane opposite the cottage.
Lack of traffic or other external noise .Peaceful. Initially taken aback by the quirky exceedingly old fashioned interior to the cottage .As we ourselves live in a 200 yr old + cottage albeit modernised we managed to look beyond the first impression and found it to be clean and generally comfortable with everything we needed.
Shower could have been more powerful.
Lack of amenities as cottage in a small hamlet so had to travel to eat out.
- Jill (9/5): Comfortable, pleasant garden and perfect location for a relaxing break. - A very rural and beautiful spot. The cottage was comfortable and had everything you need. There were no issues with the accomodation.
- John (8/5): Secluded and peaceful but good access to places to visit. - The cottage is quaint and a little tired but has all the facilities and utensils you could wish for and very comfortable. Secluded but with good access to the A1. Rothbury is about 10 minutes drive with a nice CO OP, shops and pubs (Turks Head serves really good pub grub). Vindalanda and the Roman Army Museum on Hadrian's Wall and Beamish Outdoor Museum recommended as is the lovely Northumberland Zoo just across the A1. If you want a peaceful holiday this is the place. Stairs a little steep and WIFI not working but that could have been me as I am no techno !
- Andrea (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (8/5): Great location for us as National Trust members, had a lovely stay! - Comfortable and had everything we needed. The bird feeder had plenty of species visiting it, a real treat to look out of the window on to. The toilet seat moves every time to sit on it! Quite a few cracks in the walls. Would have been helpful to have a welcome pack and information about the cottage itself.
- Elizabeth (8/5): Comfortable bolt hole. But don’t choose here if you are looking for a show home experience. - A great location looking out across the Northumberland countryside. Cottage was comfortable, warm and with fast and reliable WiFi connectivity. Kitchen small and with all the basic equipment needed. We loved it but be aware that It’s a small terraced house that is well worn and a little tatty at the edges. Decor and fittings are functionally fine but not fresh from a catalogue.
