Guest Reviews
- Diane (10/5): - Received a warm welcome from Nolwazi. Was more than what we expected. Very comfortable and relaxing.
- Brandon (10/5): What a peaceful environment and if you can appreciate the small wildlife this is the place for you. A very topical and b - There are endless amounts of small wildlife like frogs and lizards. What a pleasure to sleep to that sound of nature. A real relaxing environment. I could hear the people stay next door on occasion.
- Nastasja (10/5): -
- Sibonelo (10/5): Well spent time. Best value, definitely going back again. - Perfect getaway property. Peacefully and tranquility. Well located WiFi issue, but bearing in mind, we are in the bush. Maybe also look at getting a cover for the pool so that leafs don’t fall into the pool at night or when not in use.
- Jo-anne (9/5): - Facilities were amazing. Jacuzzi and walking trails were a bonus. Just a great escape Cutlery wasnt practical. A decent charcoal braai facility would have made the stay perfect.
- Gabriele (10/5): -
- Gabriele (10/5): -
- CarmyMich (10/5): Dream Getaway - End to end it was beautiful. Facilities and the service was amazing. Felt like we were staying in a dream. It has been wonderful We liked everything
- Tristan (10/5): Wonderful stay surrounded by nature. Would highly recommend for all nature enthusiasts that still enjoy living luxury. A - Beautiful location and perfect amenities
- Rajesh (10/5): Mesmerizing stay staff was amazing 👏 - The peace and quiet atmosphere

- Londiwe (10/5): Aaah my stay was amazing…the staff was very friendly - The property was very peaceful Aaah nothing at all
- Jason J.L (10/5): - What an amazing place my now Fiance and I got to stay at for the first couple of days to get engaged at on a game drive in the area.
The chalet was perfect! Nature, birds, day and night time, we were just captured by all it offered! We will definitely be back again!
Kay and the team are so friendly and have only been accommodating when our flights have been cancelled due to unrest in the middle east. Lizelle and Mthoko was also amazing when it came to the game drive and the engagement arrangements. We saw 4 of the big 5 and it was just truly a blessed day!
Highly recommend to stay here! You will not want to leave! Home away from home in the bush
- Raees (10/5): - This is our third time back in under a year , we absolutely love the chalet , the amenities and the quiet. Kay made sure our stay was comfortable.
- David (9/5): Very enjoyable. - Breakfast at restaurant was outstanding TV reception.
- dlnaidoo (9/5): lovely luxury stay outside Hluhluwe Memorial gate - Felt like a luxury stay, just 30 minutes outside Hluhluwe Memorial gate. Some game in Kuleni park itself although only option is to go on foot in the park. It was nice to have Delish restaurant so close to the property as any other food options are a 15 minute drive away. Apartment had good options for oven, stove/ cooking facilities as well as the additional outside dining area which was great. Some additional kitchen aids will be helpful e.g. foil, tupperware - even if disposable ones. Everything else provided was really lovely.
- Denny (10/5): Amazing stay. - Close to nature. Ideal to relax.
- Wandile (6/5): - The scenery was beautiful , the security guards and staff that welcomed us were kind The chalet we stayed at was a Self-catering chalet but we were not allowed to bring in a chef to cater for us.
The place does not keep an iron for clothes
It would’ve been great if these things were specified prior in order for us not to be inconvenienced.
- docrat (10/5): -
- Sivalutchmee (10/5): Beautiful accommodation. Nothing to fault. -
- Philani (9/5): It was great I enjoyed my stay definitely coming back for more days - Everything the area and the peace that comes with it The iron was not provided :(
- Lesego (7/5): - Good location Electricity kept tripping
There is no iron
- Seni Lukele (10/5): - Privacy and quiteness
- Debra (10/5): Wha a memerable weekend with friends - Staff were so attentive d the setting was Peter t for our getaway weekend! Nothing
- Veronica (9/5): Very peaceful, saw lots of animals around the lodge. - Nice rooms with en suite bathrooms. A suggestion, please add loungers or comfortable seats on the deck. Netflix never worked and nobody could tell us how to log in.
- BHAVIKA (9/5): Hidden gem - Luxurious lodge and spectacular setting - perfect for quiet rejuvenation.
Good WiFi, DSTV and Netflix (although I did not use them).
Thank you to Kay, Fortunate and the entire Tinswari lodge team. I’ll definitely return.
- Barnard (10/5): Wonderful Place For Relaxing - Beautiful decor
Lovely touches like a decent hair dryer
Outdoor showers
TV & WiFi
Braai facilities
Kitchen fantastically equipped Not so much dislikes that would prevent another visit or recommending, as contstructive suggestions:
Washing up space is very tight, and another bowl and table space would help
More coffee pods (even if they need to be paid for) as there is nowhere nearby to purchase
Linen was very scratchy (maybe it needs a good few washes to soften), and the pillows were very high and very firm. The duvet was also extremely thick. We would still stay again, but we would bring our own pillows and linen - which is not ideal.
A few more instructions on how to use the various AV remotes would also help (it's quite confusing, and we were worried we would do something to the settings!)
A little more attention to detail, like providing an adapter for the hairdryer, which has a round two pin, but plugs only have straight two pins.
- Tyler (10/5): Absolutely incredible - Very romantic... The spot was clean, modern, full of nature and wildlife. We loved it. Having Fortunate (the caretaker) meet us at the car with a trolley to help wheel out bags to the property was a great touch!
- Lwazikazi (10/5): Tinswari is such a gem! I loved how luxurious and picture-perfect it was – every corner felt like it belonged in a trave - The luxurious set up, private jacuzzi with the lake view and seeing the wild life monkeys. There’s nothing I didn’t like the place was absolutely amazing.
- Sholan (10/5): Exceptional - Cleanliness, peaceful and private.
- Mari (10/5): Exceptional - It was all lovely, wonderfully decorated with luxurious living spaces inside and out. Outdoor living in style. The outside shower was fantastic!
- Nicola (10/5): This is a real gem and close enough to Hluhluwe park for daily excursions. Loved the food at Delishh restaurant right at - The situation right in the bush. Very good lay out and decoration. Really lovely! Nothing
- Jodi (10/5): Beautifully appointed decor and perfect location close to Hluhluwe game reserve. - Loved the decor and location. Some minor maintenance/upkeep issues - the batteries in the remote for TV as well as the aircon were flat so had to keep swopping out batteries with other remotes to make things work. Didn't realise it was an Espresso coffee machine until the message received morning we left and did not have enough time to go find and buy Nespresso pods - wish we'd known earlier that the coffee machine was a Nespresso machine. Needed a fan in the lounge/dining/kitchen area. I didn't like the geckos inside and the gecko poop on walls. This could've been removed and the geckos could also be relocated outside the unit.
- Michael (9/5): Beautiful chalet, nestled in nature. - Beautiful chalet, nestled in nature. Exceptionally well appointed, with many lovely touches in the room. Facilities at the chalet were 10/10 - the fire pit area, swimming pool and deck were incredible. A bit more privacy around planned maintenance (e.g. room service, pool cleaning). The staff were lovely, but would sometimes arrive unannounced which isn't always ideal. Others have commented on the noise of the pool and nearby road - these are all true, but not deal breakers.
- Adam (10/5): Exceptional - peace and quiet
- Nokuzola (10/5): Everything was perfect!😍 my sisters and I really enjoyed our stay. - The staff were so friendly and helpful🙂 I loved everything
- Da (9/5): Superb -
- Danie_parsons (10/5): Heaven in the bush, just what the doctor ordered... we returned stress free. - The units are extremely private and surrounded by nature, animals roaming around and plenty of birds. We really enjoyed the walking trails (all well marked), easy walking with various animals around. The reserve had a back up generator and great wifi (not that you want it) The unit was well equipped with stylish and practical finishing.
We really enjoyed the loungers next to the pool, afternoon shade helped.
We found the perfect weekend getaway from Durban, about 3 hours drive. Pool was a bit noisy, but not the end of the world. During the day you could hear the road noise (from the main road) but the noise didn't bother.
- Asheer (9/5): Superb - the lay out
the place
the cleanliness the pool had too much chlorine.
we couldn't swim
- Garth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Malte (10/5): Exceptional - The unit is absolutely stunning. We enjoyed our stay and the facilities provided. Absolutely what we were looking for! The unit has all the amenities required and they are all top notch. That we only had two nights there 😅
- Brenda (10/5): My Stay was majestical, privacy, peace of mind elegant space! 100/100. % - The location of the lodge the garden is out of this world raw and majestic, you're in a forest absolutely beautiful. Elegant villa beautiful finishes, bath view stunning, glass house it was one of my favorite things about it the glass every were but 100% private. The pool has a risk of drowning if you brought kids, it has no sign to show depth how deep the pool is. for someone who can't swim at all won't be able to use the pool to splash, too deep and no net or depth sign.
- Ncebakazi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Keti (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gerard (9/5): Very enjoyable stay - Location and quality of decorating and furniture Swimming pool was not clean
- Lee (9/5): Superb -
- Vorster (8/5): Very good -
- William (9/5): Superb - Tinswari is an exceptional venue for completely relaxing and getting away from the daily humdrum.
The lodge ( Lodge 1) was beautifully appointed, with a lot of thought and creativity. Quite "mod and contemporary" for a bush lodge but done with fantastic taste and thus resulting in a truly amazing space.
We had every facility and utility that we could possibly have needed......and some more!!
The jacuzzi was great.....soaking whilst listening to the mass of bird life was really good for the soul....
The cherry on top was our nightly visits from two resident nagapies who were very inquisitive and came to say hello at the braai.
Thank you to Nolwazi and Manga who kept the lodge spotless whilst we were there without much intrusion on our time.
And finally, congrats to Kay (our host), you have created a wonderful place to share.....we will come back again
- Africanflamboyance (3/5): Staying at your home seems like a better more comfortable idea... - Yes, Fortunate was helpful on arrival and assisting, cleaned the place and on departure very helpful indeed when a personal item was left behind!
Keris was also very helpful with all her assistance! First of all, Kay's communication was absolutely awful!
The day before I couldn't get hold of her. The message received through the platform was also inaccurate with a contact number for a worker that informed me that he no longer works for the property! Kay only got back to me the day of actual arrival - no apologies for the terrible start!!!
Very short and abrupt answers/communication. Thankfully Keris stepped in and helped.
On arrival, we realized that Kay only provided us with 1 gate pass, after making it known that we were travelling in 2 vehicles - that then created a drama and left us waiting for 30 minutes in the dark, not being able to gain access after travelling for 4 hours...
This property IS NOT adequately equipped to self cater!!! It does not have ample sufficient kitchen equipment that one could actually cook a meal from scratch, so this is more of a heat & eat setup which is not the way this property is being sold! Also, only having 4 of each crockery & cutlery again, not sufficiently equipped for 4 people over a 24 hour period and one find yourself having to clean and wash dishes the whole time to keep the process going for preparing even the simplest of meals - not my idea of a holiday, as my house at least has a dishwasher!!!
Then, this property has no opening windows, which in my opinion is a design flaw and can leave one feeling quite claustrophobic, especially in terms of fresh air in the bedroom & bathroom.
Also, this property does not have any curtains or doors leading from the bathroom to the bedroom and so, during nighttime it is difficult to sleep because of outside lighting that couldn't be put off and during the day one can't sleep late due to the light coming in even through the blinds in the room and bathroom with no window coverage - another design flaw.
So, not relaxing, not comfortable and defeats the idea of a needed family break!
- Samukelisiwe (8/5): Good times - It’s really beautiful and secluded There is no iron
- Shireen (8/5): Relax - Booking.com Lots of bees 🐝
- Ruschka (8/5): Very good -
- Robyn (10/5): Perfection - Every thing at Tinswari was designed to delight. The staff, the accommodations and the location could not have been better.
Our little Bush Baby visitors in the evenings were an unexpected delight. Thank you for hosting us!
- Wozzip (9/5): Beautiful Lodge in the heart of Hluhluwe - Lovely bush lodge with all the comforts of home. Lovely pool or jacuzzi to relax and cool down in. Close to Hluhluwe National Park for those looking to go into the park for game drives. Nothing
- Shane (9/5): Fantastic - Being able to walk around the property and the decor Hearing cars at night.
- Lourens (8/5): Tinswari - A must visit. - Good quality and tastefull furnishing. Bed very comfortable. Airconditioning brilliant. Secluded and private. Nothing to dislike here. Awesome place.

- Roheeth (10/5): Exceptional - An absolutely stunning location. Epitome of luxury in the bush. Nothing
- Nash (9/5): Superb -
- Kat (10/5): Exceptional - Stunning property, spacious, comfortable and beautifully styled. 2 very small issues: no soap to wash hands and no sponges to wash dishes

- Mxolisi (9/5): Superb - The apartment setup was beautiful, loved the outside shower We had wifi connection problem at lodge 1
- Ruben (8/5): We had a wonderful weekend with our adult children - Wonderful facilities, clean, very good linen, braai and firewood Attention to detail was amazing, except for,
No bin liner in bin
No soap in bathrooms
Not even Salt & Pepper for the table
It might seem minor, but for such an exceptional place it was a let down
- Nhlakanipho (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bianca (9/5): Overall a lovely stay in the bush. The chalet was neat and clean with no issues of load shedding due to a generator. - Loved the contemporary style of the chalet. WiFi was a bit of an issue and couldn’t get the TV to work for a short time but a minor issue.
- Nzimande (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was just perfect.....definitely coming back
- Adam (1/5): Disappointed double booking - Nice bush, beautiful chalets- just sad that we couldn't stay in one. Hi there, sorry about all the bad faces- everything about your property is wonderfull except that there was a double booking. Who made the mistake on your side we will not know?!
We could therefore not stay in the chalets, which was a big let down for us....we were really looking forward to staying there. The other couple/ family did, but we had to go to additional housing on the property ( which was also nice and clean, BUT not what we wanted or paid for). So our friends were really far apart.
- Megan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bianca (7/5): Beautiful unit. - The unit is beautiful and very tastefully decorated. Location is good and near the park with a nice restaurant on your doorstep. The private reserve is lovely to walk around with lots of wildlife. 1. You need to take absolutely everything you need. There wasn't even a bottle of water in the fridge after a long drive or a drop of hand soap. I had to go out to buy tea and sugar to make a cup of tea on arrival. I realise it is self catering but I have always had a few tea and coffee sachets/pods on arrival. One pillow each with no extra pillows or blankets in the unit. Aircon remotes did not work as all batteries were dead. A number of spot lightbulbs needed replacing;
2. you receive no information about the reserve or anything (not even instructions for the TV which didn't work properly whilst we were there). I had to find a map from the internet to find the trails in the reserve, which is a pity as they were so pretty once found. No information on the area or any facilities close by; and
3. you could still hear a lot of road noise from the unit we stayed in (Lodge 2) which was a pity when surrounded by such beauty. The units further back in the reserve would be quieter.
- Nancy (9/5): amazing stay - it was very private and quiet really spacious and clean and neat, loved the jacuzzi. amazing stay and we will come back for sure. minor petty stuff, could use little soaps in bathrooms, a cloth for wiping counter instead of using dish towel, directions were little hard, could use signs a bit earlier on, instructions on how to use stove and microwave, but otherwise it was an amazing stay and we will come back for sure
- Jonathan (9/5): Superb - There was no Bathroom Utilities like Soap Shampoo etc and Pool filter did not work
- Scott (10/5): Exceptional -
- Heuer (8/5): Very good - The walks, the solitude, the accommodation and staff were magnificent Noisy pool pump which disturbed the wonderful quiet and stillness of the gorgeous setting
- Danie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (9/5): Stunning! Beautiful…will return - Look and feel No windows
- Natasha (7/5): Good - Beautiful place, very relaxing. No wifi( it didn't work at all) , no cellphone reception. When loadshedding hits you're on your own. No way to contact anyone etc. A bit scary.
- Mshengu (9/5): Superb -
- Clint (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tracy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Scott (10/5): We will certainly consider another visit - We were all very happy with the accommodation and all aspects of the units, from the inside and the outside
Outdoor showers were nice but needs towel hook or holder and soap holder of sorts
Outside could do with a pool lounger or two.
The staff were exceptional and kept everything clean. At first glance we thought the gas braai had never been used, so hats off to the staff. The bathroom too the left was leaking with the heavy rains
- Veroica (8/5): Very good -
- Jeevren (9/5): Superb -
- Mukelisiwe (10/5): absoutely beautiful. -
