Guest Reviews
- Aleisha (10/5): -
- Beverley (3/5): Felt uncomfortable, more like a hostel than a hotel -
- georgia (8/5): -
- Denise (8/5): Brilliant dog friendly hotel!! - The staff and the locals were fabulous! Everyone made us and the dogs feel so welcome! No it’s not a modern hotel BUT if your looking for a proper friendly hotel where the locals talk to you like friends would and your dogs are treated like the hotel pets then this is the place for you! The room was clean and had everything you need. Thank you Brentwood Hotel and the locals! We will be back!
- David (8/5): -
- Brett (4/5): Never again - The rooms were tired and scruffy the bed sheets had stains and there was a fridge on a chair that nearly fell off every time you touched it . The bathroom wasn’t the cleanest either and the hallway and stairs had a stale smell Cleaner rooms and modernise
- Paul (8/5): A good break as a solo traveller. Great location. - No breakfast provided? Because I was so independent, nothing really. But ì did assume breakfast was available if not included?
- Pam (8/5): -
- Leach (1/5): It was the worst hotel stay I've ever had! - The location was ok as it was only a short walk to the beach When I booked my stay I was expecting to be served food while I was there. Only to find out after I paid for my stay the kitchen was out of action and has been for a while. Even on my receipt it said 'Dine In.' I had to go into the town to find something to eat. Also, the drinks at the bar are seriously over priced
I won't be recommending this hotel. I will be asking for a refund.
- Kaylie (6/5): -
- Margaret (1/5): Checked in stayed 2 nights then checked out early to stay elsewhere - Bar area and garden Some of the staff not communicating enough/rudeness and the manager went on holiday leaving other staff to deal with guests.
Bed uncomfortable ended up with back pain.
No white sugar supplied for cups of tea. No biscuits provided.
People too loud in the garden at night
Heard factual stories of the going’s on in the hotel which were not pleasant and some guests accommodated by the council housing department

- Denise (8/5): -
- Georgia (8/5): -
- Pat (10/5): Fantastic location - Great place to stay Nothing
- Walker (7/5): Comfortable and Great Location for the beach - The room was on the third floor and no lift, my dad and sister have mobility issues so it was really hard for them to get to the room.
- Tina (10/5): - Everything, nothing to dislike, was relaxing and the place was in a great area close to town and beach. lovely and quiet and peaceful I liked everything
- Kelly (2/5): - It was available Being told by regulars at the hotel that you have homeless stay there we should of been notified of this we booked 4 rooms in total and had children with us 🤔
- Karen (8/5): - Gr8 welcome. Good size room. Comfortable settees in bar n could play pool. Nothing
- Mark (1/5): Wouldn't recommend - The room was ok but other than that nothing. Didn't stay left about 23.30 as the couple next door was in and out of the room all night slamming and banging there door and arguing.
- Shannon (10/5): 10/10 recommend. - Very friendly, kind and helpful staff. Check-in was quick and easy, and the hotel was very clean and nice. Would definitely recommend and will be using the hotel in the future.
- Tina (7/5): - close to the beach. a minutes walk from the town. staff were friendly. the tv had netflix and music channels which was quite nice for the nights all stairs so had to carry all our belongings, all doors had codes and not keycards so a little inconvenient but we managed
- Angela (3/5): The bed linen and towels were spotless the bed was comfortable. The hotel is noisy you can hear people in other rooms - Very good location right in the town by the sea Says parking in the street but there really isn’t anywhere to park it’s completely full all the time. It should state very limited parking but for £3.00 a day you can park in the town. The entrance and stairway could do with new carpets.
- kimberley (4/5): Cheap and close to beach - Close to beach and attractions It’s like a house with multiple occupancy - door to get in is outside. Managed with a code, this was changed while we were out in the evening and had to get bar staff to help us. Thank god we didn’t stay out after the bar closed. Plug socket hanging off wall, leant on sick and it wasn’t attached to the wall - thank god didn’t lean fully. For £75 it’s not a lot of money but it’s a lot for a room that’s falling apart, noisy, creepy (wouldn’t go as woman on my own), the bar downstairs has security of an evening which tells you the clientele they get staying
- Jenni (8/5): -
- Bridget (7/5): Dont judge but the outside - Room.was clean Shower door didnt shut properly - but we were only there for one night.
Mattress wasn't that good - but again ok as it was only for 1 night
- Ling (8/5): - It was real good for hotel The chip shop finnigans was was rated as the best chip shop in porthcawl it was rubbish
- Cerys Gillgrass (10/5): - My room was lovely and clean also had a fridge so could keep stuff nice and fresh,, co-op and one stop shop like 2 mins aways beach to mins away and the pub was brilliant NA
- kelly (8/5): - Location closed by Nothing
- Booth (8/5): Ideal for a 1 night midweek stay - Comfortable bed, nice clean bathroom Nothing
- Marissa (8/5): -
- Karen (10/5): - Upgrade to a lovely room. Location right by town centre n beaches. Lovely welcome for me and my dog. Returning soon I liked it that much. Nothing
- Janene (5/5): -
- Mel (10/5): Lovely break - Right at the seafront. Not over priced. Friendly staff. Comfy bed. No problem parking.
- Rachel (8/5): - Great location and friendly staff. Really good price and pet friendly. Very good for the price
- Sandra (5/5): Cheap bed for the night, but wouldn’t stay again - Clean bedding and comfortable bed Very shabby decor and creeky floors.
- Justin (8/5): Pleasant. - Pleasant.
- Stacey (8/5): -
- Harris (10/5): - Me and my girlfriend really enjoyed our stay we both will be back Nothing
- Kyrie (6/5): - The location was good for the places I was going too. It was clean and the room was a good size They need to provide breakfast, check who stays there as I could smell weed when going to my room
- Matthew Davies (10/5): Absolutely 💯 fabulous 👌 - The service and politeness of staff is very good 👍
Would recommend for short breaks or even longer stays in this facility .... Enjoyed the stay, would recommend 👌
- Michael (3/5): Won’t be coming back to this house/ hotel . - Location Up 2 flights of stairs, bathroom was full of webs and spiders, carpet not clean
- Rob (8/5): - It was very convenient to the town It was a little bit tired
- Malcolm (9/5): - Lovely stay great location Nothing
- James-Adesope (8/5): - All satisfactory
- Ash (4/5): - Price No service in bar at 10.50 pm. Poor decoration building and room

- Julie (8/5): -
- Crotty (10/5): - Th property was in a fabulous location with super friendly staff
- George (5/5): -
- Martin (8/5): -
- Rogers (10/5): - We had the best of welcome from bar staff on our arrival.. landlady asked about our room needs, etc, and offered us a cheaper 1 more suitable, which we only needed double, not a twin .I would stay here again, definitely Nothing
- Julie (10/5): - Excellent Thanks Nothing
- Marie (7/5): Great location just a few small tweaks to detail missing - Good for value comfortable rooms. You can see they are doing their best to redecorate the rooms, and for the price its excellent value in a great location. I felt we were lacking plugs close to the bed for phone charging, so unplugged the kettle.
Also there was a gap underneath the door which would've helped to drown out the general noise of people moving around.
However I felt that our stay was comfortable and happy.
- cerys (6/5): -
- Dana (7/5): - Location was great , friendly staff. The mattress was uncomfortable.
- SHM (8/5): A good night stay.
In - We had a nice welcome of the barman and Laura the owner was very nice. You also need a code to get to the rooms which then needed your hand print and a code to enter the room. The room was a good size with a lovely bathroom and shower and there was also a fridge in the room. Nothing to complain about.
- Allen (7/5): -
- Sarah (10/5): -
- Natalie (10/5): -
- Paul (6/5): -
- Shannon-Marie (10/5): Perfect. - Amazing location, beautiful clean room. 10/10
- dawson (10/5): Cheap and cheerful - Despite all the negative comments you get what you pay for cheap and cheerful the bar playing good music and customers coming for a drink after work will be booking again Nothing
- Nicholas (7/5): Great value stay in Porthcawl - we stayed in the annex. The rooms were lovely and well presented. They were clean. The host could not have been more helpful. We were lucky to be in the annex if we had been in the main building it would’ve been very noisy due to the bar and very loud music. Luckily, this did not affect us as tall as we were across the road in a hotel called Heritage.
- Sian (6/5): Much better than the reviews. Definitely worth a shot! - Okay, I looked on TripAdvisor and was very nervous before going. I was just going to cancel. I spoke to someone at Booking.com and spoke to the manager at the hotel who understood my concerns. The hotel has a lot of long term tenants and contractors and did suffer a fire last year. The bar area has been updated. The rooms have been updated with new furniture and are fine. The staff were great. Contractors and long term tenants didn't bother me at all. Infact they were super friendly. Location is amazing!! Communal hallways desperately need to be completed but the staff recognise this. The room is boiling - so slept with the windows open though this wasnt a problem as it was a week day and quiet. The walls are really thin and the doors heavy, so if someone leaves or enters another room it sounds like they are in yours. Some guy decided to have a very long late phone call from about 1.30am and that did keep me awake.
- Lucy Phasey (1/5): - It was easy to het to and from places It was cold windows were letting in so much air the place was shaking with noise beds are very hard carpets not very clean no hairdryer and staff did not want to help
- Debra (1/5): - Clean towels Reception desk out of use blocked off, had to go through the bar to book in which was full of well oiled punters due to happy hour(2-8) had to go outside to nextdoor for entrance to the rooms this door had a keypad entry ,the room deco really poor could do with the place being gutted and redone storage really poor,a sock was put over one alarm on the ceiling, real safety issue, wouldn't let my dog drink out of the glasses or mugs , good job I took body wipes 😕we didn't unpack left our case on the bed went out came back just to change then back out came back late didn't sleep could here other guests we got up early and left would definitely NOT return should have asked for a refund 😕 I would rate this a minus 5 star do not stay here I feel sorry for the residents living in this street 😞
- David (3/5): Poor - The room and bathroom were clean Lack of replies to telephone calls and messages left.
Asked to wait in the bar for 20 minutes before checking in
- Becky (6/5): - I didn't like the fact that weed was smoked in the back garden, me and my hubby could smell it in our room, our room needed a good dust, also we didn't like the fact that there was a door in our bedroom for another room and could see everything
- Parry (5/5): Good for a one night stay. - The staff were welcoming, the room was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Tea making facilities were good. Electronic door lock and codes meant no keys to keep safe. Excellent location. The on suite bathroom though clean was in a poor state of repair. Lots of cracked floor tiles and the hot tap ran constantly. As we were only staying 1 night we made do.
The general state of the corridors and stairs were also in a poor state. Looks like a lot of work required to make it nice.
- Aimee (5/5): Porthcawl was very weird but wonderful? - It was a last minute cheap booking that we found, you get what you pay for. From the outside it looked lovely (minus the police car that was parked right outside when we turned up). The Hotel was literally around the corner from the waterfront and a couple of good pubs. The Marine bar was the place to go, and the nightclub on the way to the theme park. There was a bar downstairs which stayed open until 1am. Beds were ok, slept good, TV was a bit off ,didn't bother with it in the end. We didn't have bed and breakfast, and to be honest probably glad I didn't pay the extra as I wouldn't have wanted to eat there in the morning.
The next morning we went back to The Marine bar for breakfast and walked along the sea front and sea rocks, had a battered Crème Egg from the chip shop and went back home. When we were outside vaping there was a woman that came out saying she had been put up there, so assuming the hotel gets used as temporary and emergency accommodation? Inside looks like your grans carpet and is worn down and could do with a lease of life. The room was a good size! The bathroom light we didn't use as it was hanging out of the ceiling and they had given 2 battery powered lamps so put one of them in the bathroom instead? Assuming that was why they were left on the floor?
- Michelle (10/5): - room clean bed comfy TV kept going off lights kept flickering to hot in the room and to noisy
- Nic (10/5): - staff really friendly and helpful n/a
- Axenderrie (8/5): - We had a free upgrade. Lovely location for the beach.
- Morgan (10/5): - Very clean and comfortable No iron or hair dryer
- Kelly (10/5): -
- kindon (8/5): -
- Charlotte (10/5): Cheap and cheerful. - Cheap rooms, clean, friendly staff and flexible if you want to stay longer Nothing, others would say old fashioned but i like it.
