Katja (9/5): Good value for money and a beautiful location - Staff was very positive and nice. Hotel is peaceful, there is only about 10 rooms and the beach in front of hotel is quiet also. Beds are comfortable and we had a fridge in our room 👍 Beautiful place if you appreciate peace and guiet location in a beautiful settings. African lifestyle for european is sometimes difficult. Everything works pole-pole, slowly, and usually food preparations or any other seevices take over an hour. This is good to know 😊

Tanya (5/5): - The location was great. Our villa was not clean on arrival and had a strong odor of cat urine throughout our stay. This improved slightly during the stay but even on the last morning, we woke up to the smell. The villa was sparsely furnished, with only a sleeper couche in the lounge. We did not have a washing machine, tumble dryer or coffee machine even though it was advertised that this would be available in the villa. Shower curtain rails were broken and tied to the ceiling with wire. There were holes in the wall with electric wires visible. There were limited options for breakfast, none very good and portions were small. Fresh milk was not on offer unless you asked. Lunch and dinner was expensive for what you got. But ultimately it was the smell of cat urine that I will now forever associate with Zanzibar...

Ida (8/5): Great stay - fab beach! - The staff are amazing - especially Shuna at the front office. We arrived early and she was welcoming, gave us a room and was generally brilliant. She made us feel very welcome. Loved the Sea front- the beach is exquisite - I loved the lounging chairs by the pool too, Breakfast was measured up eg English breakfast did not have bacon and baked beans was a spoonful / it may help to offer eg fruit when an item is missing.

Zofia (8/5): Very nice place with one major flaw - I liked a lot of things in the hotel - first of all, it’s right on the absolutely divine beach which was almost empty for the entire time I was there. The bungalow on the beach was very nice (although the bathroom could be cleaner and refurbished a little). Staff friendly and food at the restaurant excellent (although the portions are small and one dish is definitely not enough for lunch or dinner). There was one Saturday during my 5-day stay when a big group of tourists occupied the restaurant and the area around, playing very loud music all day. They didn’t care it caused discomfort to other guests (me) and didn’t turn down the music, even though asked several times. The staff - otherwise very nice - was totally unbothered, didn’t want to intervene (or didn’t think they should?). When the group left about 6pm, the music at the pool bar started, with bass so loud that the floor inside the bungalow vibrated. There was literally nowhere to hide from the noise. The staff refused to turn down the music even though there was NOBODY at the bar. Fortunately, as there was nobody, the party didn’t last very long (9.30? 10pm maybe?), but in a village that advertises itself as quiet fishermen village, this is unacceptable. I was particularly disappointed with the manager’s attitude who didn’t seem to care.

Tõnu (10/5): MY ZANZIBAR - We only came for one night, but we liked the place so much that we stayed for a total of eight days and it would have been more, but the vacation ended. Very friendly staff. Helpful staff in cleaning and room service, restaurant and bar. From the hotel, restaurant and bar side, everything was super good. It was just unpleasant to watch the rude customers. Some let their children throw their food. Some demanded that the restaurant staff bring the food to their table. Even though it was a buffet, so to said swedish table. If you want to be gentlemen and ladies, don't act so rude. The service and food were good in the restaurant, but the other customers the mood with their rude behavior. Pleas be polite with staff! It was a very nice vacation provided by the hotel staff. Salla (10/5): Exceptional - The location was amazing and peaceful. Thank you for the many towels in the room and the manager/owner was really helpful about snorkling opportunities. We were just staying for a short weekend with a scooter. The only thing negative that i can say is when you shower, even with the shower curtain thr floor in the bathroom is gonna be soaked in water.

Kudakwashe (9/5): It’s an ideal place to stay as a couple or a group too as there are hot!!!!! Events that are hosted on the property. I a - The location is ideal for a couples get away. There is a lovely private beach just a few meters from the property. Rooms were clean and worth every penny spent! The owner was great, always there to listen and resolve any problems. Kuddos to Paul for a lovely welcome ! The restaurant does require a lot of work food wise. If that is sorted, 5 stars from us. The breakfast was always lovely though but all the other meals need a lot of work!

Akshesh (6/5): All in all, loved the hotel, the beach and the quietness around. Would def go back. - The hotel was just like what the pictures show. Great ambience, silent beach. On the day we arrived, our room had an issue with the AC. The owner immediately moved us to his other hotel. This was the perfect hotel if one is looking to wind down, with less crowd and a peaceful beach The bar at the hotel was great, and the hotel organized a great new year party. The breakfast spread was not great, very limited choices. The staff were very slow initially, but after some complaints to the owner, all was good. Options for lunch and dinner are quite limited around the hotel, and if one is veg, there is only 2 or 3 options, including pizza.

Thiko (6/5): Pleasant - Location is excellent as it is right at the beach. Their food is terrible and lacks options. Not much effort is put in breakfast menu prep. At 1st I thought it was a Tanzania thing until I heard from fellow island guests that other lodges and resorts provide plenty food options for their guests.
David (2/5): Never again - Location and size of complex No AC so had to leave. Complained three times but didnt fix it. Lousy restaurant and needs some TLC and investment.

No noise on premises They take Pole Pole very serious... Our tea took so long that we cancelled it. Both nights we stayed there , a drunken guy who entered the premises spoiled the atmosphere. Security should have interfered.

Rasmus (3/5): Avoid this place! - Location! This place is a strange mix of a beach hotel and a nightclub. The location is good and right on the beach. Rooms are run down and need proper renovation. We had no mosquito nets in the room the first night and had to ask specifically for this. Electricity and water are on and off all time (the generator also). Restaurant is expensive compared to alternatives along the beach. Breakfast is very basic and below what you might expect (there is not even a coffee machine). What's strange is that the pool and bar area is turned into what looks like a nightclub after sunset. Somehow, it looks like the owners have not decided whether to run a hotel or a nightclub. At night, extremely loud is played around the pool area, so if you like quiet evenings, don't book this place. I find it extremely arrogant, assuming that all guests appreciate extremely loud music in the evening. This place has lots of potential but suffers from poor management and arrogant owners. I simply can't recommend this place!
Nsovo (1/5): Horrible. - Nothing. It does not look as it does in pictures. There were cats and dogs all over. We informed them that we are scared and not comfortable but everyday we experienced the same problem. They did not do anything about our concerns
Ian (3/5): Poor management and lack of water due to faulty water pump. - The hotel itself is very nice, the staff are friendly. Location is good. Rooms were clean. I would recommend staying there if there issue with the water is resolved and they need to consider a proper reception area. The water pump in our bungalow was faulty, nothing was done to fix it so every morning and evening we had to look around for someone to assist in order for us to be able to shower. On 1 morning this took over an hour as nobody was available. Check in was another as theres no staff available at reception so we waited a while until eventually getting assistance, theres a number to call but it doesn't go through. Theres nobody available to properly assist from after 6pm until 7am. The management at the resort seems to lack any interest in guest relations.

Eddington (3/5): A different experience - The location was excellent. The vegetation was very nice, and the seating places were very comfortable. Following my unfavourable interaction with cats, we were upgraded to a bigger room with an ocean view since I have ailurophobia (cat phobia). Thanks to the hotel owners for such a gesture. We had an issue with our bank card, and they also gave us more time during our stay to sort this out. Being an Ailurophobia (Cats phobic), I did not enjoy the outdoor space because several cats roamed everywhere, including the restaurant, balconies and stairs. This has nothing to do with the owners but my personal condition. I advise those with similar conditions to avoid this place. Areas of improvement include breakfast - more food diversity and a balanced diet are needed. The beds in the rooms need to be fixed to avoid noise. Bathrooms need upgrading.
Andreas (8/5): You get alot for the money! - Really good place for the money, location is perfect, pool was good, breakfast was good, could be better, but for sure good enough. Staff was really nice and helpfull. The rooms are pretty simple, but for sure they are good enough if you want a place where all the suroundings are perfect and the place is affordable.
Laura (8/5): Very good - Super friendly staff, very pleasant outdoor area. The AC in our room didn’t work so they very nicely offered to change us room, really appreciate. A lot of chemicals in the swimming pool, the loud music from 3pm in the pool area was a bit a shame as the location is peaceful and beautiful.

The tunes were so incredible that vsitors from nearby establishments came to take part in the live entertainment at this hotel. That says a lot. There wasn't a telephone in the room and no 24-hour reception service

Alena (5/5): We left early - The location close to the beach was great The hotel, rooms and facilities are very old and a bit run down. They are in need of updating. The food in the onsite restaurant was basic at best and the breakfast wasn’t good at all. No options. As there isn’t much around in regards to restaurants, you are kind of stuck.

Lydia (8/5): Beautiful boutique hotel right on the beach - The staff were very welcoming and are always happy to assist. The villa we stayed in was very clean, with daily housekeeping and comfortable beds. The hotel is right on the beach and had a clean swimming pool. There is plenty of seating everywhere such as next to the pool, near the bar and outside of rooms. The breakfast was filling and tasty. The one bathroom shower did not work. Seating inside the villa was not enough.
Harriet (5/5): It was basic. - I loved the room, it was sea view, i loved the customer care. The lady at the reception made us feel ast home. I hated the bathroom. It was too old and had a weird smell. It smelt like old pipes and the drainage in the bathroom isn't the best because it soaks when you take a shower. Also the pool needs to be cleaned everyday. It had algae.

Poļina (10/5): Cosy, romantic, and friendly little paradise that gives you full experience of vacation. - Very cozy and lovely hotel that deserves to be called a resort. It gives a full island lifestyle experience, with many different locations around the property to enjoy the ocean view and serenity surrounding you. Wonderful breakfast that will cover anyone's needs with daily fresh fruits available of course. There is an amazing bar at the pool that offers the best cocktails in Zanzibar. But most precious are the people living and working in Moonshine. During our short stay, we had a feeling of living at our family's villa in Uroa. Thank you very much Shuni, Davido and Danilo for this unforgettable experience! We should stay there much longer:)
Marisa (10/5): Exceptional - The hotel was more than great, even though the expectations were high it was better than expected. The owner Danilo and the staff were brlliant, taking care of us at all times. The hotel is by the beach, it means the hotel has direct access to the beach and on top of that it is equípped with swimming pool. The place is great to enjoy the beach, the hotel itself since you have everything what you need and they all help to make you feel in paradise. Thank you guys, we felt at home.

Birgitte (8/5): Despite of the things mentioned above we loved it :) - Friendly host and personel - relaxed atmosphare - wonderfull location. There was some weekness in the facilities. For an examble very few furnitures in the house.... the showers spayed water out in the room instead of on you and the kitchenette did really need a renovating. The food was ok in the restaurant, but we waited to long for it. Par examble . ordered at 19.00 and agreed of serving at 20. The pizzas came at 20. 20 and was cold and the rest was served at 20.45. Thats is not good enough. The hotel has great potential, especiually if the get " a hold" on the things mentioned
Marc (6/5): Pleasant - It was literally next to the beach. House keeping was unreliable. There was construction work the entire time of our stay (loud hammering, etc.). The breakfast was unfortunately very limited and they didn‘t restock empty dishes. Blackouts several times (we sat in the dark).
Chapeyama (7/5): Good - Friendly Staff and always available to assist. If you are looking for a place to relax and admire the beautiful blue waters and beautiful beach this is the place to come. The room was smelling, breakfast needs to be improved only few items available. I have no problem with retaining a traditional feel but I feel they should invest some money in nice furniture, curtains and add a little bit of mordern pieces and touches. Also must have TVs in the rooms.
Wendy (10/5): Stunning location, comfort, value, less than an hour away from Stonetown. - Moonshine is a gem, an amazing value with everything we wanted. Our friends' cabana was RIGHT on the Indian Ocean and ours was steps away. The staff was lovely and really seemed to care about our enjoyment and comfort. Due to renovation, the restaurant was closed. But the staff set up a table poolside where we enjoyed several delicious meals, an awesome sunset and later the famous moonshine on the water. since we don't speak Swahili, the manager helped us negotiate over the phone for a snorkeling excursion, which allowed us to save money and get the service we wanted. We were two older couples, but we recommend this location for families or anyone on a budget who wants to relax. All good.
