Guest Reviews
- Amanda (6/5): Relaxed with great snorkeling! - Location is awesome , the rooms are basic and generally clean and comfortable. The staff were very relaxed , friendly and helpful. Great Snorkeling right of the wharf! Needs a little love, it’s run down and cyclone has also hit it hard. Didn’t see any repairs happening, unlike on other islands.
- Alexandra (10/5): Peaceful and memorable - The 9.1 ‘Suberb’ rating is accurate. This place is so affordable considering the beauty that you stay in. I was on a water bungalow and sat in my hammock watching the sunrise with the huge ocean view. The rooms are big, lots of fans and cleaned daily. No ac but the fans do the job! They have an outdoor area with hammocks and sun loungers under shade and a little deck to the ocean. The fridge is fully stocked with beverages and the bar is full of food and drink.
My review needs to be trusted because I have stayed at many small island resorts such as Oarsman’s bay in Fiji , beach better resort in Vanuatu and others in Cook Islands and new Caledonia and this is by far the most breathtaking experience. The main restaurant has delicious seafood and vege options too, you can swim with the reef sharks that are surrounding the property with incredible snorkelling literally by the restaurant. I’m talking 15+ reef sharks that surround the property that leave you alone. Breakfast is free and is pancake, fresh fruit and toast and you can order bacon eggs etc for an extra price but what you get is lovely anyway so I never did
They offer trips to the villages and diving, however I never left the place. I was so relaxed. The staff are incredible, couldn’t do enough for you.
I travelled alone and I felt safe and cared for.
In terms of electricity- i am a gen z phone addict and I was not fazed by some periods of no power! Just charge when you can, bring a portable pack and your good. Nothing beats waking up and swimming with the reef sharks and then having the most fresh and delicious food. Wine and beer on offer too as well as spirits.
They’ll pick you up from the airport and drop you off! 5 min boat ride from airport. STAY HERE if it’s the only thing you do in the solomans. You can visit fat boys if you want something lively during the day but I think Imagination is the best balance! Slightly remote - so make sure you ensure flights are all booked before booking this but otherwise they can arrange a lot of tours
- Yong-Sook (9/5): - 이틀동안 식당에서 초저녁부터 밤늦게까지 계속 노래하는 손님이 있어서 식당이용이 불편했으며, 식당안에서 담배 피우는 손님이 몇분 있었음
- Jan (8/5): -
- Kate (8/5): An escape to this Island paradise is like no other, a reset for the busy world. - If there were a slice of heaven on earth, Imagination Island would be part of it. What a divine place to escape, on two beautiful days. An experience like no other. You might need to look at upgrading some of the other hardware and plastic that has been affected by the heat/mould in the shared bathrooms in the restaurant. Quant, and characterful, I think these small enhancements would help you improve your rates. There is also a broken mirror in room 5.
- PHILIPPE (10/5): Un Paradis - Emplacement superbe, confortable et propre, personnel aimable et coopératif, nourriture excellente
- Peep (10/5): - Excellent place for those who value privacy and being close to nature. We stayed here as a couple at the end of January and at that time we were the only guests.
The location is outstanding and everything necessary is provided. Electricity is available most of the time. The toilet and shower are comfortable and well arranged. There are fans next to the bed in case the sea breeze is not enough to keep the air moving. Internet can be used in the restaurant building if needed. The bungalow also has a fridge. Every day hot water is brought for making tea or other hot drinks.
A simple breakfast is included in the price. The bar and restaurant are open daily and offer lunch, dinner, and a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. If you have a bigger appetite, it may be wise to bring some of your own food to the island, otherwise it can become quite expensive.
The view is stunning. The terrace is directly over the water, allowing you to watch marine life and birds almost nonstop. The sea is ideal both for swimming and snorkeling.
The hosts are kind and very helpful, and they can organize different tours around the area if requested.
We would very much like to come back here again.
- Catherine (8/5): - Helpful and friendly staff. Beautiful location close to town and airport, fantastic location for snorkelling No major issues experienced
- Robyn (10/5): I extended my stay here, it was that good! - Brilliant location on the reef, you can snorkel from the jetty & see amazing fish & corals. The staff were all very helpful & friendly, always assisting with boat transport & cooking delicious meals. Thank you tumas! Numbawan resort to stay in Solomon’s, paradise! Food was good but maybe change menu sometimes. Could have a ‘Special of the Day’. Make it a bit cheaper so guests choose it. Use fresh seasonal produce from markets more. Eg avocados, Aussies love avocados on toast, simple!
- MkyStay (8/5): Our Island Stay - Everything we needed was there. Great snorkelling at our doorstep, plenty of options along with opportunities to relax and do things in island time. Staff were very helpful to make our staff comfortable, and memorable. It was great for what we were looking for in a relaxing island holiday, without any fuss or pretence.
- Anne (10/5): -
- Maisa (9/5): GREAT stay, beautiful island, delicious food and the most gorgeous coral reef - GREAT stay, beautiful island and the most gorgeous coral reef. Breathtaking snorkeling, there's ship wreck in the area and the most gorgeous fish, even the sharks were friendly!
I loved the fresh food and fish, staff was so cordial and helpful at all times. The manager (EJ) was fantastic and helped us out with trips and all that we required. We and an amazing NYE experience watching local dancers and a band, the band was particularly moving. All so beautiful. They prepared a feast for dinner and I loved everything about the food, very fresh and seasonal.
They recommended Dive Gizo for a scuba dive and they picked us up at the resort best dive ever! We had a freshly catch Spanish Mackerel for lunch at a local small Island and that was unforgettable.
I'd absolutely recommend this resort to anyone with an adventurous heart, who live to experience real culture and food, and love the sea. Nothing major, perhaps just as notes for improvement: room was quite noisy because of birds, bathroom/shower could be a bit more comfortable (e.g. hot water, better ventilation).
- Michele (10/5): Really enjoyed a relaxing stay at Imagination Island. - Awesome location, short boat ride from Gizo and Airport. Great meals, good portions, fresh ingredients, always tasty. lovely staff, we really enjoyed the family atmosphere and rustic bungalows. Exceptional snorkelling, and loved seeing the reef sharks being fed the fish scraps. Nothing, but wondered if small electric jugs might be better for bungalows to save staff refilling thermos flasks, as power available morning and night to heat them.
- Matilda_01 (7/5): - Loved the location and the accessibility to snorkelling. We also loved our private room which was clean and comfortable and great for relaxing on the front deck. The banana pancakes at breakfast were some of the best I've ever had in my life! Music blasting from the bar until after 1am as we'd picked this destination for peace and relaxation.
- Christoph (10/5): -
- Anne (10/5): Relaxing holiday with family snorkeling with the fish & sharks = bliss - The access to top snorkeling spots right on the doorstep. Food was great. Staff friendly & helpful. Nothing
- Christine (10/5): Escapism and pure heaven. Divine sunsets to rejuvenate the soul - Incredible location, a real escape. Felt like heaven walking in. Cabin was glorious and the hammock on balcony was divine relax mode. 100s of birds, noise was enchanting. Peanut butter chicken curry was incredible! Staff willing to go above and beyond to ensure stay is special. Room simple but very comfortable. Amazing shower. That I had to leave.
- Sophia (9/5): - Great location, great staff. We arrived with the passenger boat and had to be picked up and dropped at the harbour late at night and early in the morning. Staff are always very friendly and it got everything you need: snorkel equipment for rent, breakfast, drinks, karaoke. Everything was great :)
- Krzys Jurek (7/5): Authentic Eco Lodge experience for a short stay in the Gizo archipelago - rating 7.5 - The Imagination island eco lodge is an authentic experience for those willing to forego some comfort for the sake of living on a self sustaining islet. I liked the food on offer at the lodge even if a little pricey. Emanuel Sr - the general manager of the lodge - is very friendly and helpful and so are the two ladies you meet at reception. Because it is a marine sanctuary all around, the lodge is home to many black tipped reef sharks, which makes the experience all the more thrilling. Imagination do offer numerous day excursions (all by boat) I also strongly recommend going to Kennedy island for a day of snorkeling as part of their offers for activities (it costs 650 SDB to be divided by the number of participants). Other travellers have mentioned this before but I can also confirm that the presence of thousands of birds on the islet means that the noise they make (day AND night) can be overbearing (I strongly recommend bringing ear buds). On a hot day the scent of guano can be disturbing. Regarding amenities, the room is rudimentary: a couple of low lighting eco bulbs for light (electricity is not always available) and the waterless toilet are things to contend with. I could count on one fan in the room to have some cooling but during my stay, I felt hot all the time. I stayed three days, but I dont think I would recommend it for a week. You are quite isolated and there are no activities to speak of on the islet as the main purpose to go to Gizo is for fishing/snorkeling/diving/island hopping in other sites.
- Sue (10/5): -
- Jens (9/5): Relaxed coral island getaway! - Smooth transfers from Gizo harbour or airport - only 5 min boat ride away but the island manages to feel very secluded despite the proximity.
Food is fresh and delicious but if you stay for a week as we did, the choice is quite limited - special recommendation: crayfish omelette! 😋
Amazing over water huts (we had a two bedroom) are clean and spacious with ample room to string up some hammocks on the breezy veranda).
Snorkelling off the communal/restaurant hut is excellent and there are plentiful day trips on offer. We went island hopping to the east and west. Kennedy island has amazing snorkelling as well!
Prices for everything are reasonable. Lots of seabirds nest on the island so the guano smell can be intense at times. This includes the smell of the water in the bathroom.
The staff were friendly but quite reserved compared to other places where we have been welcomed with more open hearts.
- Linda (10/5): Simply amazing - Everything exceeded our expectations. We knew the accommodation would be more basic compared to other resorts in the area, but weren’t sure what to expect. But wow! Everything was great, from the warm smiles every day from the staff to the stunning location and the overwater bungalow. The staff is amazing and super helpful. And the food was yum! Plus the best snorkelling in the whole area is right in front of the restaurant. Thanks team, we will be back!
- Min Yee (9/5): - Food was amazing, staff was very friendly! Very nice resort owned my locals!
- cortese (10/5): - a slice of paradise, truly. visited in early september, it was always breezy, the room facing the sea, and the small conservation area the owners have created around the islands shows! great fish life, a resident group of black tip reef sharks, colonies of bird. The staff is amazing, calm, attentive and kind. Food is also delicious. Descriptions like this don't give the place justice. Might not be for everyone due to its simplicity, but for us it was unbeatable. Will visit again one day! honestly, nothing
- E (10/5): Paradise! - A true paradise! This island is a haven for hundreds of sea birds and tons of fishes. Breakfast at the restaurant is magical, like watching a giant fishtank. The resort provides masks for snorkeling. You can spend hours admiring the corals and thousands of fishes. You can also do day trips from the hotel.
Very friendly staff, very good restaurant.
EJ speaks French and is a good chess player!
- Sophie (10/5): Best place! - I stayed 6 nights, it is a wonderful place, a perfect base to explore the area and fantastic reefs and marine life, including directly around the restaurant, and a shipwreck only 50 metres away. The local Dive centre is also highly recommended.
The bungalows are very spacious and have great views. It has a more rustic style, as they obviously care about the environment and not wasting electricity, recycling and compost toilets that keep the reef super clean, which is all unusual in the Solomons. I didn't do a tour with them due to diving , but there are plenty of in house offers available.
The food was very good every night. Some general info could be better communicated.
- Chad (10/5): A truly incredible experience! - EJ and his father were always willing to take you to different islands and they offered many excursions that were priced fairly. My wife required medical attention and EJ took us to the hospital in Gizo. He obtained a nurse rather quickly and was able to communicate with precision exactly what treatment my wife needed. What could've been hours was resolved within minutes with his help. Regarding our stay, the chef was incredible! We were able to eat fish that either he or EJ caught that day and his attention to adding local spices and ingredients was phenomenal! The harbor has the most gorgeous lagoon, with its jade water and the snorkeling around the island was incredible! If I didn't live half-way around the world, I'd go there every summer! I know they're looking into purchasing more solar panels, which would allow the room fans to run throughout the evening. I would say, that was the only drawback is that they would shut off. However, I would take a lack of fans anyday to be on that island, to visit all the amazing islands, and scuba so many idlyic locations.
- Stefan (10/5): - Great resort on the coral reef. Snorkeling like in an aquarium. Good food. Many activities offered, we went to the Hambere waterfall and Kennedy island. Very helpful owner in case of flight problems. Best value for our money during our Salomon trip
- Stephanie (8/5): Great Snorkeling right at the resort. - Peaceful location and very easy transfer from the airport. A bit too rustic and very limited food choices.
- Alex (9/5): Superb - Great vibes, good was good and beautiful scenery. Rooms were a bit hot, but this is to be expected.
- Timothy (9/5): Had a great time - Great location. Very friendly and obliging staff. Clean, well set up rooms, especially for families. Great value for money. Sharks off the deck were definitely a highlight.
- Daniel (9/5): Stunning place - great staff and food - Exceptional location directly on a world class snorkeling reef. Accomodation on the reef are awesome; note no hot water but wasnt a problem. Compost toilets are very good too, well maintained.
Overall, its a true eco lodge, which delivers a great experience. We were very sad to leave the place and we highly recommend it. Also, get some scuba dives with Dive Gizo- it’s just unbelievable what you get to see down in that ocean !! Service is a bit (really) slow at the restaurant. Activities are a bit pricey..
- Raka (8/5): Excellent Island holiday - I loved the location, staff were super friendly and helpful, the food was delicious; the staff take beautiful care of their island. Also made me coffees in the morning, loved this; I would definitely go back again. The location is an echo lodge - so generator is on some of the time, they are very upfront with this. There are fans in the room - solar/ battery operated and mosquito nets. The snorkeling around the island is beautiful, and the staff do not allow fishing - where some other islands waters have been fished out. This island is protected. We say moray eels, many, many fish, ref sharks, sea horses and so much more, and wrecks around there too. Books available and snoozing in the hammock on the verandah - was a great just relax and watch the birds. The staff were very accommodating when we wanted to go to other islands, I would definitely go back.
- Omer (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was excellent: the facilities, the food, the staff and the snorkeling. Excellent wifi too Nothing
- Ben (9/5): Absolutely amazing stay with stunning scenery. We loved it. Very kind and generous hosts and property staff too. We had - Great value for money and idyllic location. Expect basic facilities and you won’t be surprised. But over water bungalow rooms are spacious and super comfortable.
- Lynne (9/5): A fantastic stay!! - Fantastic all round. A little maintenance probably needed. Staff very friendly and a great menu. Snorkelling excellent. Would definitely recommend a stay at this resort. Nothing
- David (10/5): Excellent resort in Solomon Islands -
- William (9/5): Rustic and eco in a magical setting - Imagination Island is a locally owned and run eco resort and they take the 'eco' part seriously; this includes composting toilets, recycling and removing all rubbish from the island. Despite the remoteness of the location, communication with the resort is fantastic (response after booking was immediate) and the free WIFI really fast by Solomons standards. We were met at the airport and transferred by boat to the resort, which, along with the continental breakfast, was complementary. Add to that lovely friendly staff, a relaxed, all-day restaurant and amazing snorkelling in a stunning setting, and you have a very special experience. For the right tourist this is magical.
- Nicholas (9/5): Superb -
- Barrie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Philip (9/5): Great place to enjoy life and relax on almost you own island. - Simple and really ecofriendly place with fair prices and great food. Snorkling just by the restaurant. Plenty options for trips to nearby islands and diveshops and Gizo town.
- Jay (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic reef for snorkeling right off the resort. The family that runs it are legendary.
- Scott (10/5): This place was an unexpected gem. We will be back. - This was truly a special location. The island was incredibly beautiful, the setting was exceptional and the staff were helpful, kind and responsive. From meeting EJ at the airport, the ten minute boat ride to the resort, the welcome drink, and the tour of the island - we knew we had found the perfect place to unwind. The coral reef and diversity of sea life that surrounded the resort were like nowhere else we have been. So incredible to pull on a mask and snorkel and swim around the resort while waiting for lunch or dinner. The meals were really tasty and there was surprising variety (given that we were in the middle of the ocean). Highly recommend this place for a few days if you are looking for a perfect place to relax.
Our bungalow was large and sat over the ocean. We slept to the sounds of waves and fish and birds. There is no air conditioning (but there is a nice breeze and fans) and the amenities are fairly basic, but it was all we needed in this bit of paradise.
- Gail (9/5): Loved it. Basic but beautiful. - Imagination Island met/exceeded our expectations. We knew to expect basic, & there were no frills, but it was a high standard basic. Arriving to the dock to a glass of bush lime, the boys carried our bags to our bungalow over the shallow reef, fans over both netted beds (there really isn’t ac in this part of the world) & the hammock on the balcony. All perfect. Dinner options included seafood, chicken, limited red meat. Everything we tried was delicious, the steamed fish & ginger grilled fish were probably the favorites. Meals provided in the dining/chilling area in a separate building out over the reef. Breeze through the windows here creates a comfortable climate. The marine life out the windows was all the entertainment we needed (though there is a TV & games). The staff are overly helpful with local knowledge & arrangements. EJ & Emmanuel (& all the staff in general) are stars.
Note, if you’re expecting luxury, the Solomon Islands is not the place. If you’re expecting homely, welcoming, clean, supported & with great service, Imagination Island won’t let you down. Couldn’t really have asked for more.
- Hemmy (10/5): Breathtaking scenery, Friendly staff & lots of fun activities that suits you. - Love the Location, the view and the Island is beautiful, quiet and is friendly environment.
- Jack (10/5): Exceptional -
- Henry (10/5): A tiny slice of paradise with very friendly and accommodating staff - Stunning views, beautifully landscaped and well maintained garden, crystal blue water and abundant marine life, amazing for snorkelling. The restaurant is out over the water on top of the reef, everyday it was such a treat eating my breakfast overlooking a natural aquarium, watching colourful fish and reef sharks galore going about their business. All the staff were very friendly and helpful with accommodating all my needs. Be aware and check when bird nesting season is when planning your trip. Being an eco resort, the native fauna is thriving which is great, but in December when I was there the birds were very noisy. Sometimes even during the night they were loud and certainly first thing in the morning. Getting quality sleep was sometimes challenging.
- Noelle (8/5): Overall, would return in a heartbeat. - Great location. Free use of paddle boards, fins and masks. The menu could be more varied and interesting. Food prep takes up to two hours at times.
- Anna (10/5): Loved it! Our favourite place around Gizo! - Amazing snorkeling, chill vibe, great owners! Nothing. It looks a little run down from the outside but the rooms are clean and well kept.
- Stephanie (10/5): 10/10 Incredicle - will return!!! - Stunning location and incredible service.
I will start with the refreshing drink we were offered on arrival. It was a lovely warm Solomon day, and the drink made such a difference!
We were then shown our rooms. My partner mentioned that the room next door would have a nicer breeze. Without hesitation, the staff organised a room swap. Ej was fantastic with keeping us busy with activities, dropping us off to Gizo for a dive. The dive shop dropped us off at Imagination Island and can pick you up as well, once you have signed all dive documents. If you have no activities planned, do yourself a favour and do a snorkel around the island!
We will absolutely be returning. Leana hola Ej and your amazing team. The place was fantastic, however a little kitchette with a kettle and fridge in the rooms would have been super handy.
- Helmar (9/5): Best snorkeling spot. - Everywhere are sharks.
- Fraser (8/5): Very good - Very nice location, surrounded by a vibrant reef with many resident blacktip reef sharks making for good snorkelling. While expensive the food was good. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Particularly liked the mud crab. If diving or snorkelling the Dive Gizo dive shop is more than happy to pick you up straight from the resort. This applies to all resort in the region I believe. Some things I felt could have been cheaper. For some food items such as fruit may be better to buy it in town prior to coming to the island. Cannot recall exactly how much but there was a charge for the trip back a forth to Gizo but I remember it being fairly expensive for such a short boat journey. Take with a grain of salt.
- Tamara (9/5): Relaxed slice of paradise - It was one of the most relaxed holidays we've ever had. situated over a beautiful coral reef full of life, we spent the days snorkelling, reading, lazing around in the sun. We had a large room with a balcony over the reef (A great place to chill in a hammock with a book), plenty of room for a family of 4, we loved the rustic style of it. . There was a basic menu but the food was great. The dining/bar area is a great place to hang out during the day with lovely decking and bar stools that look out onto the reef that allow you to watch the fish while you eat and watch the beautiful sunsets with a drink. The staff were very friendly and helpful, always willing to cater to your needs. we would like to personally thank them all for making our holiday the amazing experience it was. We would have like some information on hand about the reef life we were encountering, easily fixed by a book, or wall chart of reef fish.
- Doug (9/5): Great staff, beautiful location. - Stunning location: windswept island surrounded by beautiful reef, lovely gardens The prices in the Solomon feel a bit steep.
- Marian (10/5): Full of love, sea air, tropical fish, corals, a cute red parrot and a delightful staff. Good vibes. - Nowhere else like this place. It's rustic and small but full of love, sea air, tropical fish and corals, a cute red parrot and a delightful staff. Good vibes all round. The food was great, fresh coconuts, fish dinners, brilliant snorkelling, lovely staff, amazing views, hammocks. Everything was great to me.
