Guest Reviews
- Ramalingum Somiah (7/5): Value for money accommodation - The courteousness of the staff and trying to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The smell from the thatch affected my wife as she's very sensitive to any smell.
- Carmie (9/5): Amazing lodge and incredible views! We will definitely come back to stay for more than one night next time. Thank you - The lodge was beautiful, incredible views, clean, wild animals on the property, amazing staff, safe and spacious rooms with everything you need. The staff were able to organize a night tour and sunrise safari tour (included tea, coffee, biscuits and pastries). Both were great tours and informative! The food on the property were delicious for dinner and breakfast. The pool wasn’t working when we were there. We had children so we were disappointed with that. The water was cold for a shower but it woke me up as we had a sunrise safari to get to so that was ok.
Nichts
- Jan (8/5): Very nice - Service of the rooms Vehicles not parking near the rooms.

- Dr BDMD NGOBESE (9/5): - Staff was friendly I didn't get the time to enjoy the amenities
- Val (5/5): What should be a Hidden Gem when visiting the Area, turned out to a Gem, best hidden - The Lodge is well situated, being a few Km's from Memorial Gate entrance to Hluhulwe Game Reserve. All the staff were really friendly and helpful at all times. Their Buck (Nyala) roam freely between the bungalows. so close up to enjoy. 1) THE FOOD -
We ordered dinner, rather than use the self-catering kitchen in the Bungalow. We were so sorry that we did. Husband ordered the steak option, and I opted for the Pork Chop. While my Pork chop was ok, the steak was very tough. One also does not expect to be served Frozen Vegs and frozen chips, warmed up, as your sides. The starter comprised of a couple of calamari rings (maybe also from Frozen) with one lettuce leaf and lastly a store-bought Malva Pudding slice, with some custard (store bought) For us, quality of the food is more important than the price, so maybe some revision of pricing is needed to raise the standard served.
2) CROCODILES IN CAPITVITY.
They advertise the Croc Deck to watch crocodiles in their natural habitat, (as per their website) This turned to be a really small, closed area with far too many of these majestic animals, all on top of each other. While Overseas Guests might not know the difference, we as South Africans, felt really sad
3) PRICING OF SOFT DRINKS
As the restaurant is not licensed, one can only buy soft drinks. We ordered 2 Coke Zero's to have with our meal, expecting to be served the normal 330ml can's. Instead, we were given the small 200ml cans and charged R25 a drink, very expensive, when you can buy one for around R10.

- Nishara (10/5): Easter Weekend Stay - From the time we arrived we were greeted by Princess with exceptional service. The place is so serene with buck and zebras roaming right outside our door. We also managed to spot Giraffes, the rooms were cleaned everyday and the beds were so comfy. Everything exceeded our expectations and it was a very pleasent stay.. Stembile and De Wet were also very helpful. We enjoyed the big 5 game drive at Hluhluwe game reserve organised by Ubizane. Zipho was an exceptional game ranger.
- Stine (10/5): - Beautiful surroundings and the cottage was fantastic 😊
- Brady (8/5): Would definitely recommended if you’re looking for some peace and quiet. - Lovely lodge with cute bungalows and some Nyala roaming around. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Very grateful for the hospitality and effort.

- Govender (10/5): -
- Layton (7/5): - Venue, facilities and friendly staff. Needing to call every time one wants to either enter or leave the premises.
- Hugo (8/5): Overall it was enjoyable will be back👏🏻 - Rooms were very good No well kept lawns foot paths dangerous esp for elderly , and far to parking lot no short cuts except over the “lawn”. Pool floor was very slippery .
- Thembelihle (7/5): - The place is very neat and clean. The house is spacious and equipped with everything you need for self catering.
The BOMA area is nice. The road to the lodge is not bad and very close to the main road.
The lodge is suited close to many places to visit whilst there.
The staff was very helpful and friendly
I liked the rondovel houses It is something unique.
The place is refreshing, relaxing and quiet.
I enjoyed my stay and will definitely visit again.
To see impala in the yard and zebras around
The net in the bed to prevent mosquitos and other insects
The bathtub is big enough and beautiful
The dining setup outside the rooms is very relaxing for morning coffee and afternoon relaxing.
The Tree lodge down the road which they said is also part of Ubizane is very nice
A place to visit for some quietness and relaxation in the forest. Not enough car ports so we had to park direct in the sun
There are no activities except game drive
No restaurant in the lodge and you must book before you arrive for dinner and breakfast which is served at Tree lodge not far from Safari lodge.
The pool need some upgrade and must also accommodate kids.
The place have a lot of space and potential of adding more games for people coming with all kids.
- Talhar (10/5): -
- Siza (8/5): - Environment and stuff .stuff was friendly.
The place was clean 👌 Nothing
- Herman (10/5): -
- Ernst (9/5): - Sehr schönes Rondavel mit allem was man braucht. Super schöner Garten mit Zebras und Springböcken. Wir kommen gerne wieder.
- Ntokozo (10/5): - Everything!!! None
- Slindile (10/5): - Staff was amazing, perfect bush experience really loved seeing all the animals roaming around.
- Shona (7/5): Very clean - Loved the pool. The room was clean and staff greeted with a smile everyday. We couldn't braai privately due to dry grass so we had to braai at the boma but that staff was watching us alot. And when I asked the lady before arriving if we can braai by our unit she said yes probably knowing our booking and didn't mention that we actually couldn't. Also we has to sit by the gate in the mornings as the man there didn't have a key and had to wait.
- Sphelele (7/5): Great place, just needs a few touches here and there - The rooms were clean and cozy.
The animals at your doorstep really added to the experience. The staff was brilliant and helpful The pool was dirty and not exciting to swim in as it was not clear. We felt short changed from the advertisement on bookings. We expected quadbiking because we saw biking on the page. There are no outdoor showers at the safari lodge, only at the tree lodge which was unclear on the advertisement. There is no mats in the bathroom to dry your feet after showering.
- Seby (7/5): -
- Andile Sphephelo (10/5): - Breakfast was nice everything was good
- Victor (9/5): -
- Theresa (8/5): Had a really lovely short stay - will probably be back - The quiz was a plus for us
The Boma was great with the fire to sit around Prefer a private braai opposed to having to carry everything to the boma
Prefer parking closer to the bungalow

- Jayshree (9/5): Beautiful gem in the heart of the bush. - Ubizane is a beautiful wildlide reserve in a quiet and peaceful setting. We had a short stay of two days and saw giraffe, zebra, nyala,
impala and warthogs but there are other animals. The birdlife is prolific .The staff were friendly and most welcoming. Our vegetarian meals were very well catered for and special thanks to the chef and Faith for communicating with us constantly. We stayed in the self catering rondavel which had amazing views of the bush. The rooms were very clean, spacious and comfortable including mosquito nets. The bathroom had both a shower and a large bath tub.The kitchen has all you need for meal preparation.Great value for money. We enjoyed a peaceful and relaxing stay at Ubizane which is a short distance to the Hluhluwe Game Reserve. Nothing
- Pravesh (9/5): Short stay but pleasant and met all expectations - Location/ staff/ facilities/ neat and well
Organised . Ambience brilliant Small issues really , just suggestion (Unit 21) bathroom floor tiles seemed stained , I think could do with a thick rubber floor mat That’s washed after each patron leaves.
- Cairie (10/5): -
- Mncube (6/5): -
- Thomas (10/5): Lovely spot close to Hluhluwe game reserve with comfortable and affordable accommodation - Good value for money. Nothing

- Silindile (9/5): - I had an amazing stay at Ubizane Safari Lodge. The place is quiet, peaceful, and truly feels like home, perfect for rest and relaxation. I also loved seeing so many zebras and giraffes 🦒 while driving into the lodge; it was such a beautiful welcome.
A special thank you to Samke for the wonderful body scrub and massage, it was absolutely relaxing. Big thanks as well to Mama Princess for her warmth and kindness. She went out of her way to search for my missing glasses and even found a pyjama top I had left behind 😊 such genuine care.
- Petra (6/5): Ik zou het niet aanbevelen. - De ligging in de natuur Niet schoon. Veel achterstallig onderhoud. Zwembad niet uitnodigend. Geen comfortabele stoelen bij het huisje. Vieze plakkerige koelkast. Vies muskietennet.

- O'Flaherty (8/5): Good ... pricey for dinner ( ok it was New Year's Eve and although tasty not wow... homely ! - Close proximity to Park . Private space No built in braai close to chalet .. but obviously away from the thatch !
- Daniel (9/5): - Verry nice place to stay! We loved our stay in a rondavel. Nature and surroundings are great, the accomodation is unique. Restaurant and breakfast are a+++
- Lauren (9/5): Fantastic stay at family-friendly accommodation. - The property is in a fantastic location and is close to Hluhluwe Game Reserve’s
Memorial gate.
The staff at Ubizane are wonderful and welcoming, and they are very helpful. We had a delicious supper at the restaurant and were very impressed by the beautiful tree lodge facilities.
- Kim (10/5): - Loved our week stay. It was so peaceful, and seeing all the impala, nyala, and giraffe, not to mention the plenty of birds every day was such a treat and just what the doctor ordered.
If you are looking for a place to disconnect for a bit, this is the perfect place to do so.
Also, every single staff member was just amazing, friendly, and 10/10 overall. What a stunning team.
Thank you !
- Travis (9/5): Tranquil, convenient exactly what we were after - Big bed, very clean Would be nice to have a braai dedicated to each unit

- Greg (9/5): - Really enjoyed our Christmas stay here. Very friendly and helpful staff. Even printed out a couple of documents for us.
Great location for Hluluwe/Imfolozi Park. Liked the game animals that roam around the site.
Our self catering accommodation was spotlessly clean and everyday housekeeping did a great job keeping it that way.
The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking. The bed was enormous and really comfy, with a really spacious mozzie net around it.
Nice pool.
Really enjoyed our stay here and the attention to detail was high. Would definitely recommend and would stay again if we're in the area Don't like the gate opening system. During the day there is a gatekeeper but early or late you need to ring for the gate to be opened. One morning we were leaving for a game drive and rung for half an hour before the gate was opened for us. Very frustrating when getting up early to view game.
Also in our bathroom there was a small leak somewhere around the toilet. Not a major problem as the housekeeper cleaned/mopped it up each day. And a couple of times our hot water didn't work. Again no real problem as it was hot we just had a cold shower. I'm sure if we'd told them they would have sorted it for us.
- Stuart (7/5): -
- nhlenyama (10/5): The location is very good for holidays - The location is very good and the lodge is very affordable Everything is perfect
- Jardar (8/5): The food left something to be desired - Good location relative to the Hluhlue-iMfolozi park, the room was comfortable. Being greeted by some of the impalas roaming the place when arriving was nice. Limited food options, and very rigid in terms of having to order dinner a day in advance. And even then they were unable to accommodate a milk allergy, forcing me to drive 30 minutes to the nearest non-fast food restaurant (there’s a KFC and similar a ten minute drive away).
- Aphelele (7/5): -
- Dale (8/5): -
- Mthethwa (8/5): -
- Alisha (9/5): Little Piece of Paradise - Our stay at Ubizane Safari Lodge was a wonderful one thanks to the dedicated staff who went out of their way to make you feel welcome and like family.
The location is excellent with a short 15-minute drive to Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park (Memorial Gate). There is also game within the property that roam freely. We saw lots of buck and zebra hanging around our unit while we were there.
The rondavels were well thought out and had all the necessities one would need on a self-catering getaway. The showers worked well and beds were comfortable.
The braai facilities are only at the lounge area, away from the rooms. The staff assisted us with starting the fire and any utensils needed for the braai.
Breakfast is served at the restaurant at the Tree Lodge which is a short drive away within the same property. Breakfast was delicious and the staff was willing to accommodate us in any way necessary. There is also a view of the crocodiles from the dining area. One of the mornings, we wanted to leave the lodge much earlier to visit the Park and requested an early packed breakfast to go. The staff accommodated us happily and we were provided with a more than sufficient picnic basket to take away with us. The car park is a distance away from the rooms so it becomes difficult to move around in the rain. However, staff do assist with a trolley for your luggage when checking in and out.
- Sarah (8/5): Friendly staff, well appointed accommodation great pool, a lovely calm place - We loved our time at Ubizane. We got very lucky as it was really quiet for our stay and we were a group of 13, so had many areas to ourselves. There was an issue when we checked in, as we had booked a night game walk through the reserve, but there had been some confusion and no guide was available. It wasn’t a problem for us as we were flexible and they arranged it for the following evening instead. We enjoyed the night walk and Brian (newly qualified) was full of information and interesting knowledge.
The game drive to Imfolozi was brilliant. The guides were super. They even extended time-wise, which was appreciated. Given that the game drives cost almost as much as the accommodation, we at least felt we got our money’s worth.
The rooms were nice, the boma area is perfect, and the pool is a great size.
My only negative feedback might be that on almost every occasion that we arrived or left the reserve, we had to sit for a good while whilst waiting for someone to answer the phone and open up. Mostly the phone went to voicemail, and we had to even get out of the car and search for a worker to try and contact someone on their own phones. There needs to be a better system in place here as we had kids in the back of a hot car, and / or were trying to reach somewhere by a certain time and couldn’t get out of the property.
This is a great choice for a group of friends / family who want a self catered option close to Imfolozi park. There isn’t a wide variety of animals in Ubizane, but it’s lovely to wake up to zebra and impala strolling close to or even past the huts.
The staff are lovely here. Lunga (sorry for spelling) and Princess and all the others, are smiley and welcoming, and were kind and helpful.
The only reason that I possibly wouldn’t return is because there are so many wonderful options in that area that it’s always nice to try somewhere new. We would maybe like to stay in their zululand tree lodges next time.
Thanks to the team at Ubizane. Mentioned above
- Kathy (7/5): -
- Kiren (5/5): - Staff was great. Especially Princess and Lunga.
Rooms were clean. Poor communication from management initially regarding booking of dinner, however was resolved eventually.
Menu (food and drink) very limited, needs more options.
- Singiphile Cecil (10/5): Home Away... Communication with Nature - Excellently built roumdavels, amazing staff...sublime meals...very knowledgeable, young game ranger, Brian Sbonelo None
- Singiphile Cecil (10/5): Peaceful Places Around Hluhluwe - Excellent meals and staff...Peaceful atmosphere... Brian is such one of a kind...young yet very knowledgeable... Absolutely none
- Jean-Christophe (6/5): - L’emplacement et la gentillesse du personnel. Le site autrefois très beau manque d’entretien. Le bar n’est pas ouvert car pas de licence d’alcool. Les repas proposés au restaurant très limités.
- Sibongile (8/5): - The lady we found gave us a warm welcome, the room was super clean, with very comfortable bed, the breakfast was delicious , the nature around and the environment so relaxing I didn't like the fact that there was no WiFi in rooms and no tv
- Achim (8/5): - Kitchen available in the bungalow. Option to book game drives in Hluhluwe NP. Short distance to Hluhluwe NP Memorial Gate.
Clean bungalow. Strange smell in bungalow like petrol or barbecue smoke. We didn't find out.
