Guest Reviews
- VAULT MOVING AND STORAGE (1/5): Gross - You couldn't go barefoot on the carpet as there were many giant 'catseye' prickles embedded in it and there were cockroaches wandering around. Chest or pubic hairs in the bathroom.
- Ian (3/5): I wasted $260 for two nights accom, but bailed out after one very uncomfortable night. - I booked the hotel for two nights based on the photos for the property which were very misleading. When I arrived at the property at 4pm, the hotel looked abandoned and nobody was present. After walking around the outside of the property, I tried ringing the phone contact number and it was disabled. I then rang Booking.com, and advised them that the property appeared derelict and abandoned. They told me they'd chase up the owners on another phone number. I received an SMS telling me that I was in Unit 1 and they gave me the security code to get my door keys. When I finally got inside the unit, I was very disappointed in what I found. The carpet was threadbare and it was like walking on nails. There was no toilet roll at all, and I later was able to get some toilet paper from another derelict room by using a door in my unit that gave me access to a common hallway. The advertising said I would have a double bed, but the bed was a foot too short for me to sleep, so I had to sleep diagonally across the bed. The room was full of mosquitoes, but the aircon was OK. I had to go down town to try to find somewhere to eat, as the hotel was empty.
- Stephen (1/5): - Nothing
- Denis (2/5): Extremely Disappointing, I believe I was sold accomodation to a working Hotel - Rooms are basic but clean Hotel is closed and fenced off, I was only advised when contacted by message and I asked about meals on Thursday (5 March) whilst I was travelling. I would have definitely cancelled the Sunday night stay (8 March) But I had already paid.
Motel Accomodation is at the rear of the closed Hotel and quite isolated.
No Phone service
No staff on site, all contact by phone messages
No food (I was advised on only Takeaway)
No drinks
No internet connection, and therefore
No TV connection
I believe this Accomodation was falsely advertised, promoted and sold.
I request a Substantial REFUND for the way this accomodation was misrepresented.
- Belinda (1/5): TERRIBLE - do not book - Nothing Dirty / unclean / shower leaking bad & not able to get temp right / no internet and was given an excuse that there were NBN issues yet surrounding properties had no issues. An alarm was going off in the pub regularly. The pub was permanently closed. I booked & paid for a queen room & got a Double room. The microwave had not been cleaned and there were no cutlery or plates.
- Tony (6/5): Pity the pub was closed - Location
- Tanya (7/5): -
- Jim (1/5): DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE!!!! - Absolutely a scam
Do not book this place !!!!!! Absolutely a scam
Do not book this place!!!!!
- Syed (5/5): It was like a caravan park!! - The location only. It is close to other facilities. It was like a caravan park!Did not find any onsite support staff. I was given the wrong key for the room. Luckily the room was open! Otherwise I could not get in. I did not find any support person on site. The complex was like an open caravan park which I did not expect. I suspect some ferral horse or other animal was outside my door at night time. I was scared and could not sleep the whole night. This was really the most unpleasant experience I have ever encountered!!!
- Racheal (10/5): -
- Richard (3/5): DECEPTIVE ADVERTISING. - Adequate accommodation. Really this place is partly a scam. The Commercial Hotel closed months ago. The are no bar services, no drinks, no bistro, no snacks, no beer garden and no entertainment. Absolutely none. This fact is NOT conveyed in the advertising.
At the rear of the boarded-up hotel, there are a number rooms which are adequate. But to suggest it is anything like staying at a normal country pub is very misleading.
- PAULA (10/5): Clean, easy access, comfortable - Price
Information
Communications
Easy check in Hotel side of it was closed
No toaster in room
- Sue (1/5): Disappointing - Nothing The Hotel and Restaurant was closed , so nowhere to get breakfast . We had burrs stuck in our feet from the carpet .
Our hot water was on and off .
- Andrew (1/5): - The motel is attached to a hotel/restaurant. The hotel is closed and dilapidated. There are no staff onsite. I was advised the TV did not work as the Internet is no longer connected. No toilet paper. No milk for coffee - it was suggested I could buy milk from the BP service station. The room was very dusty and poorly maintained. This property should not be operating as a motel in its current state. I am disappointed with Bookings.com for misrepresenting it!
- Greg (5/5): Satisfactory - Fans and AC. We lost power to the power points.
A few cockroaches. thorny weeds in the driveway.
- Ujkanovic (9/5): Great will stay again - Fresh rooms Pub was shut lol
- Susan (8/5): Comfortable, clean, neat and in good position. Owner professional and friendly. - Location is perfect. It’s in town, close to everything.
Bathroom was large, clean and renovated. Good water pressure. Air conditioner worked well. Parking was directly in front of room. For the price, the overall comfort was good. New vinyl or laminate floor would be an asset.
- Lisa (7/5): Was a quick stop over. - Close to venue i was working Parking was a bit tight and the place was in the midst of changing hands so a bit confusing. Took forever to get hot water
- John (6/5): Fix the tv and internet - Priced right No internet and television didn’t work
- Mariadas (8/5): -
- Tracey (3/5): Not clean, Not happy. - Parking at the door, recently repainted and bathroom renovated. The Commercial Hotel is closed for business and the back has lots of shed junk. The room was not cleaned - burrs and rocks in the carpet, dirty cups and spoons and a dirty toilet (though towels were replaced and the rest of the bathroom was clean). When I contacted the manager who was offsite but replied promptly, I was told the floors were not vacuumed because it was raining all day. We arrived at 3.30-4 and the rain did not start until after that - so it was clearly untrue! They asked if we wanted to change rooms but it was after dinner by the time we took off our shoes and went to make a cuppa, and we decided it was easier to stay than move in the rain. I sent photos of issues to the manager but received no response.
- Guest (1/5): Unfortunate - Prompt attention from staff Advertised as motel attached to hotel. Turned out hotel was closed. Only found out after paying.
Rooms obviously for single workers.
Bed up against wall making access only possible from the end of the bed.
Hot water only trickled through the shower leading to cold shower.
Operators not on site. We’re at the opposite end of the town, hence we on our own during the night, in a strange town at the back of a deserted pub.
We felt quite unsafe and did not sleep well.
- Peta (4/5): -
- Lesa (7/5): Renovations aside, the care and effort made this stay enjoyable. - Looks like it still undergoing some renovations but the room was great had everything I needed was provided in the room; the bed was comfy had a nice big shower and to have both AC and fan with fridge, microwave , TV and that it being all signed to the apps and free wifi definitely a good stay Nothing to major but I guess with all the Reno’s they’ve closed off common areas or wasn’t to sure of the bar area was open as everything looked abandon.
- Rosie (3/5): Won't be back - The room smelt of smoke and odours, was disgusting. Had no top sheet, couldn't get fan or light to work
- Cheryl (1/5): A misleading experience - The room is clearly being renovated and there are some new fixtures and when it is finished it will be lovely. The hotel is not open, the bar is not open, there is no-one around....no staff,no customers. There was no top sheet on the bed.Just the blanket which is not washed as frequently as the sheets
I received a message in the afternoon on how to obtain the key..
New microwave and coffee making facilities were good.
I went into the corridor and found a top sheet in a cupboard but the hallway is littered with used sheets on the floor and there is a toilet smell as well as a very untidy/dirty cleaning trolley. There were several dead cockroaches on the floor. My room itself was clean,as were the towels but when I opened the bathroom cupboard under the sink,it was full of used scrunched up towels.
I found it really unsettling to be in a place all by myself as I was travelling on my own and was in Werris Creek for a funeral.
I am angry that this establishment is allowed to advertise as being open with all facilities functioning.
I was very unsettled and upset about being there by myself and hardly slept at all..it was just so eerie.
I expected(as per website) that breakfast and dinner may be available but obviously not in this case.I feel totally hoodwinked.
This is a case of false and misleading advertising and I think that I am entitled to a full refund....at $130.per night ,I expected what it to be a different experience.

- Not (1/5): Terribel smell of feces, terribel standard of cleanliness - Property not cleaned , as evidenced by the feces and. used toilet paper sitting in the toilet, stewing in the previous days 34 degrees celsius weather so the entire room stank.
I left as I would not trust that anything had been cleaned, sheets changed etc, who wouldn't leave in this situation.
They are trying to charge me for a No Show, when I clearly showed up.
Property is not attended, which is not advised until the day of check in, check in is done by lock box.
Hotel web page says it is open from 3pm, this is not true, there is NO ONE there.
https://www.commercialhotelwerriscreek.com/accommodation
Hotel website at above link says there is a bar and bistro, which is not the case, the former bar part of the hotel is closed, the accommodation is rooms out the back.
It is bleak.
Read the review on Tripadvisor which verifies what I am writing.

If you have to be in the area, stay in Tamworth instead.
And don't use bookings.com, they have the worst possible customer service.
- julie (8/5): VERY PLEASANT, WOULD STAY AGAIN - THE SIZE IF THE SHOWER WAS GREAT AND THE FACT THAT SHOWER COULD BE HAND HELD IF NEEDED, HAVEN'T SEEN THIS IN OTHER MOTELS. FRIENDLY STAFF. ROOM COULD HAVE BEEN A BIT CLEANER AS WHITE FLUFF OR SOMETHING ON FLOOR, MORE MILK NEEDS TO BE PROVIDED, AND TIDY BIN HAD NOT BEEN EMPTIED.
- Mark (10/5): - Country charm. Fantastic staff. Comfortable bed.
- Donald (5/5): never again - Comfy bed
Best hot shower. Motel could not be contacted on phone.
We sat in heat waiting for someone to let us in.
It was not until after our bookin time we met another guest who told us of an email telling us how to get in.
Air conditioner did not work in my room due to no control.
The bed lamp could not be used as plug was damaged, bent pin.
The hotel advertised meals. These did not exist.

- BILL (7/5): We are very happy to have stayed in this hotel. We wish the young couple managing it all the best. - The hotel had been closed for several months and they were still getting organised. The lady running it was lovely and very helpful and I am sure they will do well. For the money we paid everything was good.
- Thomas (6/5): - Ok, quiet Being cold during night as air conditioner was not working and no extra blanket to put on bed.
- Suzi (6/5): -
- Maripaz (5/5): - The excellent food at the bowling club around the corner It’s been recently taken over so no bistro and poor communication for checking in…their dog whimpering at night was quite sad…hot water for shower took far too long to come through
- Beverley (6/5): -
- Craig (9/5): -
- Marcia (2/5): disappointing - We were charged $260.00 for a one night stay, in a very basic motel room. Advertising was misleading, there was no room service, and although still having a web presence there was no food available as the hotel had ceased to function.
Accounting practice was dodgy. We paid the manager by credit card, but the next day we had notification from Booking. com that we had not paid. Grossly overpriced $260.00 for one night in a very basic Motel room
- Alison (7/5): ok for 2 days - Seemed abandoned when we arrived but others arrived during the night; contactless entry to room & no one around to ask for coffee & long life milk initially, but someone came to attend to the room on day 2. No food facilities at the hotel.
- Taylor (8/5): Perfect for an overnight stay - It was convenient for an overnight stay. Had all the necessities. Basic but there was a fridge with bottled water. Coffee and tea stuff. Air con and a fan. Could do with extra blankets, but the air con kept me warm...
- Sue (8/5): Very good -
- Robin (6/5): Pleasant - No breakfast on offer.
Very limited facilities
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional - THE check in was easy and easy to get information asap via SMS . Great service.
- Beverley (7/5): Good -
- Tracey (9/5): A lovely improvement and refurbishment since staying many years ago when it was looking tired. - The location was perfect, staying in the close proximity of family and essential services. Perhaps adding a small shelf in the bathroom for toiletries would be the only improvement I would recommend.
- Rita (8/5): Very good - NO breakfast!!!!! The contact person gave clear directions about accessing entry and suggested alternatives for dining. Disappointed that the hotel itself was closed.
- Greg (1/5): Could be much better. - Bed good Email regarding room number and key box code not sent until 3.33 pm on day of stay. Unfortunately no access to emails as travelling. Hotel evidently closed all week so was closed on arrival at 5.30pm. Had to ring to get code after being told by another guest that there were contact numbers stuck to pub door. Other guests that had bookings also had same issue.
Almost no hot water in shower. Showered under a drizzle of warm water only using just hot tap.
- Fran (7/5): Better on the inside - Hot water, clean bed Exterior looked run down.
- Petina (5/5): Passable -
- Gregory (7/5): Good - The location was handy and the food was good. The staff were very friendly. I stayed for four nights and my room was only cleaned and made up on the first morning.
- Jemima (9/5): Superb -
- Simone (1/5): We had no choice but to stay here as there is literally.itchingelse there in Werris Creek. They could so much more attra - Nothing - unfortunately very limited accommodation options. The building really needs to be demolished if I’m being honest but they could refurbish a few rooms properly and have them as premium. The carpets were covered in stains and bits and paint. The rooms smelt like sewerage at certain times. They have a double bed which is just too small for most couples. The external door even had huge gaps in it allowing god knows what to come in. They have no good offerings for Sundays or Mondays either.
- Aletta (10/5): We enjoyed our stay there - We bought our own breakfast Nothing
- Linda (8/5): Very good -
- Garry (8/5): Very good -
- Rosie (6/5): Pleasant -
- Christine (6/5): Pleasant -
- Joanne (7/5): customer friendly clean and lovely little country town to stay it, - it was a last minute booking so for what we could get it was accommodating the staff are very nice people, helpful and customer friendly, room was cosey and clean and the facilities were clean, they could have given more instruction on where to drop off key, after we had checked out,
- John (1/5): Bad - The accommodation smelt like a sewer. There may have been a blockage in the sewer line. A staff member came over and apologised and tried to flash the drain and sprayed the area. 20 mins later, the smell was back. There was no other accommodation for a family of four available. The management should not have made this room available until the plumbing problem was fixed.
The carpet in the room had stains all over it and was dusty.
The blanket that was on top of the beds stunk and looked dirty.
The air conditioner could not be keeped on all night because it was too noisy.
I would never stay there again, and we should get a full refund for having to put up with all this.
- Neha (7/5): Good -
- Stephen (5/5): Passable -
- Trisha (8/5): Very good -
- Haddow (8/5): RESTFULL -
- Mitchell (8/5): All nd all a great stay - The convenience The distance to everything
- Susan (7/5): Reasonable but as a lot of other motels tradies are very popular. - location was in the middle of town and was easy to walk to the shops. Maybe an information brochure telling you about the pub - what tourist items were available in the area - how to work the tv so you could see more than one station - why the wi-fi password seem to be such a big secret.
- Vivienne (8/5): Very good -
- Rachael (10/5): Exceptional - Great accommodation at the back of the hotel, not like normal pub accommodation
- Janeene (10/5): Exceptional - Polite friendly helpful staff.
Room has own bathroom. Nothing not to like.
- Lambourne (8/5): Very good - meals were excellent and great value staff interactive and great service Size of room
- Suzi (5/5): Great stopover - Price Nothing
- Pelzmann (9/5): Superb - Staff were great. Tv didn’t have free to air tv.
The ret of it was great
- Ann (9/5): Superb - Clean comfortable accommodations. Pub meal was great.
- Heike (8/5): Very nice place in a charming little town with interesting railway-related history - Nicely furnished, comfortable room, friendly and competent staff, attached to a pub/restaurant with great food and a nice atmosphere.
- John_altro (5/5): Passable -
- Murray (8/5): A good value for money stay. - It was a very hot day but the air-conditioner was quiet and worked well. Good value for money.
- Beatriz (9/5): Fantastic staff, great view, unexpected find in a country town. - The staff were the highlight of this trip. They were lovely, accommodating (no pun intended) and willing to cater to our slightly fussy meal requests. As vegetarians travelling in a country town, meal options can be limited, but the front of house staff and the chef were more than happy to tweak their menu to make us happy AND it was delicious! The taps in the shower have to be turned a LOT before water comes out and the hot water takes ages. Not insurmountable issues and not worth complaining about, just a heads up for the next person.
- Flynn (4/5): Not worth the price - This place used to cost $85-$90 a night, they are now charging $130 a night for what they claim are “actual hotel rooms” seeing the room I was disappointed to see all that has changed is a fresh coat of paint and a dodgy renovated bathroom, which was not cleaned properly with dead bugs and hair on the ground along, with a toilet that was not actually secured properly and had the possibility to fall over, so I fail to see the price increase of $45-$50
- Peter (4/5): Disappointing - Not much at all. No service. Beer was hot and had fish for dinner which was half raw.
- Sagar (9/5): Great stay there , enjoy it - Property is clean and tidy , new renovation done and owner is so nice , he straight away share his contact details and let me know if I need any assistance.
Great customer service .
- Todd (9/5): Superb -
- Lucy (9/5): Superb -
- Zofie (10/5): Most friendly, supportive staff. The rooms were clean and very comfortable and the staff could not do more for you, food -
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Jody-ann (9/5): Short visit - Location, comfortable and clean
- Kim (4/5): Disappointing - The room was clean. There was no toaster in the room, and the car park light was left on most of the night.
- Dale (9/5): Excellent stay, highly recommend, Varum very obliging - This property is being renovated and updated, our room was very clean, new appliances, new Tv air con fan, quiet.
Staff and owner very friendly, helpful,
Food especially Indian was excellent.
