- Mavo (6/5): Nice stay, but check booking details - Lovely location., with a beautiful courtyard garden, where guests can sit out for tea or a drink in the evening. Very quiet and peaceful. Breakfast was excellent, with homemade jam and delicious freshly baked bread on offer, among other tasty options. We booked through a last minute online Booking.com deal. The proprietor warned us that the price quoted had been a mistake, and we were given the option of cancelling or paying more. I would advise potential visitors to check with the hotel, if booking online or by mobile.
We stayed in the Victorian room, which, while stylish, might present bed and bath height difficulties to any guest with mobility problems.
- Jaco (1/5): Very poor. Received a txt 90min before check-in of price increase. Had to find alternative accommodation when already on -
- Catharine (9/5): Superb - Good location, lovely rooms and gardens, excellent breakfast.
Very helpful owners when our room had been double booked.
- Jasper (8/5): Very good -
- Lynne (10/5): Elegant and beautiful - This property was on a beautiful farm and in a majestic house. The room was spacious and very well appointed and had lovely courtyard views. The owner was super friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a few games of snooker on their full sized table.
- James (9/5): perfect - Breakfast excellent & location nothing
- Kevin (10/5): Absolutely superb - Excellent location. Friendly staff (and dogs). Excellent breakfast. Great lounge area. Nice room. Nothing
- Sally (10/5): Wonderful stay in an exceptional property. Everything about our stay was delightful. Craigadam is a destination in itsel - Large beautifully decorated room opening onto extremely pretty courtyard behind a large attractive country house. Our hostess, Cecilia was welcoming, thoughtful, charming and friendly. Breakfast in the family dining room was an experience in itself. The tariff was extremely modest considering the quality of the accommodation. The only thing I didn’t like was that we were only there for one night. Longer would have been so much better.
- Ashley (10/5): Great Hotel. Hidden gem. - Excellent Hotel. Fabulous owners
- Robyn (9/5): Superb - Great meals! Friendly hosts. Large airy room overlooking a very pretty garden
- Andrew (10/5): Highly recommended because of its comfort, location and gastronomic delights. - Warm and comfortable in a beautiful old farm house. The surrounding countryside is exquisite. The hostess, Celia, is a superb cook, and offered evening meals that were a gastronomic delight.
- Pete (9/5): Superb - Staff where brilliant Rooms looked dated but in keeping with the property
- Danielcarter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jill (10/5): An idyllic house in a picturesque setting. - The location, the atmosphere in the house, the furnishings and the beautiful garden. Nothing
- Billy-patrick (3/5): Frosty reception - The setting was nice with a lovely communal courtyard/garden.
Dog friendly. Unfortunately our visit was somewhat spoilt by the very frosty reception from the owner!
On arrival the first thing she did was reprimand us for not answering our phone the previous day!!!
She had got our booking incorrect and had called twice from a mobile, with no voicemail left (also no email, booking.com message or text) to tell us. We had booked one double and one twin but she only had two twins.
This is something we could easily have overlooked had she not been so rude to us. It was as though she was trying to blame us for her mistake! There was no apology, just a 'telling off' multiple times for not answering our phone!! Particularly cheeky, given we booked 2 weeks in advance and we were only contacted the day before we arrived anyway! Only when I went back downstairs to raise the issue with her did she offer to provide us with a sheet so we could put the beds together. She remained extremely defensive with no apology for the booking error she made!
The beds were also uncomfortable with old springy mattresses.
The breakfast was just ok.
We were also hounded for a breakfast order straight away before we'd even had chance to put our bags down!
I note others have reported a similar experience.
A shame as the unfriendly atmosphere ruined what was a nice location. We would not return.
- Dorinda (9/5): Superb - Outstanding. Had a fantastic bath! The courtyard garden was just fantastic. Didn't stay long enough to enjoy properly!
- Roger (6/5): Loved it - Lovely service. Good selection of healthy food.
Ver peaceful
- Alfred (7/5): Good -
- Katherine (10/5): Exceptional - The hostess was wonderful when I took refuge at Craigadam after problems with two B&Bs in Dumfries. My room had a comfortable four poster bed, and a lounge area with a sofa - all very spacious. Breakfast was beautiful with lots of choice. The smoked salmon prepared at Craigadam was amazing. You can order dinner in advance. Three courses and the food was stunning. Fresh ingredients and a menu that changes daily. A beautiful garden around my idea of a country house, complete with billiard room. It's set on a farm in beautiful rolling countryside. From a New Zealand perspective, this was phenomenal value for money. Nothing
- Hannah (7/5): Good -
- Julia (10/5): Exceptional - The themed rooms and the garden were amazing. Celia, the host, is lovely. She waited on our arrival for a late check in at 11 p.m. and gave us tips for our trip further north. The homecooked breakfast was delicious.
All in all the stay at Craigadam was the perfect start to our vacation in Scotland.
- Margaret (10/5): Perfect - Excellent host's - lovely B&B Nothing
- Col (9/5): Superb -
- Lothian (8/5): Very good -
- Thomas (3/5): Will not recommend it to any one - Milk in the room poor breakfast 86 pound for evening meal when you had no choice and it was very small
- Lesley (10/5): Beautiful room. Owners so welcoming and pleasant - Beautiful setting amazing artwork and paintings
Grounds set in a farm has a forest Na
- Cameron (10/5): A very enjoyable stay, we were looked after in a friendly and homely manner. - Amazingly good food prepared by Celia the owner. Beautiful location. Helpful and attentive service. Nothing
- Carolyn (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely comfortable hotel. Made to feel very welcome. Breakfast fabulous
Set in gorgeous grounds. Would recommend it to anyone looking for a small ,personal family run hotel Nothing . All great
- Ronnie (8/5): Very good - Food was exceptionally good and specific dietary needs were catered for. Gorgeous environment, lovely house full of character, friendly owners.
- Fi (9/5): A restful, reassuringly lovely place to spend a peace filled break. - Craigadam is a unique and lovely farmhouse hotel with a very high standard of food, service, and nice rooms in a quiet and gorgeous location. Our evening meal was of a standard one rarely experiences these days. I find it difficult to eat out but Celia had taken the trouble to work with my awkward dietary issues and provided lovely, tasty food.- A huge boon to me - thank you. The long table means you can chat and swap information about local finds with other travelers. Loved it! No hair dryer - and for the first time ever, I hadn't brought mine!
- Edward (8/5): We enjoyed our stay in a lovely part of the country. - The lovely location of the hotel. The room was very spacious, warm and had a very good en-suite bathroom. Parking right outside the door of the bedroom. Breakfasts were very good. No evening meals offerred (which was known about when booking) and good restaurants were some miles away. The local pub served well-cooked food in the bar area which was OK if the pub was quiet but not if at a busy time.
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional - A fantastic place to stay in the most beautiful of settings, a friendly welcome included tea and cake, the garden is lovely, full of flowers and one is free to enjoy the extenisive grounds. After enjoying a wonderfully styled room and a perfect breakfast we really found it hard to leave...
- Alex (10/5): Exceptional -
- Catherine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gabby (7/5): Memorable food and a unique country farm experience. - Craigadam is an unusually attractive farmhouse, home and hotel. Lovely wood panelled dining room with adjoining snooker room with full sized table so the fun for me was the snooker contest! There’s a comfortable lounge for use after dinner all beautifully decorated and homely. The food was very good. Excellent sauces and some original dishes such as the croissant egg and lemon pudding!
Good choice of breakfast foods nicely cooked. Fresh homemade bread. A rather cool welcome but things improved by morning. The dining is at one sitting and at one large dining table which may not suit everyone. It is a shared experience. The toilet in our bathroom was stained. Craigadam is a working farm which might explain the flies in the room 2 alive one dead. The annex has steep stairs so ask for a courtyard room if this is a problem.
- Stuart (7/5): Good location, warm welcome, beautiful surroundings - Setting was beautiful. Owners were friendly and welcoming Mattress needs to be firmer and stable.
- Adrian (9/5): Superb -
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jan (9/5): Superb -
- Gavin (10/5): Delightful - Delightful stay; comfortable, relaxed and excellent cuisine
- Peter (10/5): A stunning location. - Location, service, staff.
- Sofie (9/5): lovely spacious rooms and outdoor spaces, super friendly welcome - lovely location and wonderful gardens
- Marina (9/5): Superb - Amazing location, beautiful setting. Room was very comfortable. Breakfast was lovely!
- Suzanne (7/5): Good - The courtyard was very pretty and beautifully maintained. Beds quite comfy. Check in was quite bizarre. not very welcoming and then being pounced on to make our breakfast choices before we'd even got our bags out of the car seemed very awkward. Bathroom wasn't very clean.lots of black hair left in the bath. Some nice old furniture but mixed with 1970's formica unit to house the TV. and very dated bathroom. Breakfast was perfectly pleasant but not anywhere near the quality we were given to expect from past reviews..
- Graham (10/5): A very pleasant, relaxing and welcoming ‘base’ for our visit to this beautiful part of Scotland - Spacious nicely furnished room, beautiful courtyard, owners very friendly and helpful, excellent breakfasts and dinners, well stocked honesty bar, nice toiletries, etc in room, ample car parking Some of the furniture was a little dated and the arm chairs were a little uncomfortable
- David (10/5): Exceptional - I have stayed here before. The accommodation is fantastic and the staff are really friendly and helpful. They really do go that extra mile to make your stay really good. The food is excellent too. I will definately be going back 😊 I cant fault anything
- Caitlin (3/5): Very unfriendly owner, upsetting experience... - Twin room was very large, with a good bathroom. There was a good level of cleanliness. The host(ess) was extremely unfriendly and my lovely 76-year old mother and I felt very upset. It was wholly unexpected given the other positive reviews. She didn't welcome us, demanded to know our breakfast order (I had to specify how I wanted my porridge cooked) on the street before we had even brought our bags in and was generally very hostile. We were clearly tired and hungry but there was certainly no offer of a cup of tea. This unkind attitude continued the next day. At breakfast she interrogated my mother on whether she would eat her (Aldi) yoghurt, that my mum had selected from the buffet of shop-bought juices etc. and placed on her side plate, before or after her cooked breakfast. She stormed about the place and it was all so awful and unfriendly, we practically fled having paid £140 for the experience. Don't understand people who host and then behave in an angry and unfriendly way towards guests. Never ever again.
- Rebecca (10/5): Wasn’t long enough !!! - Lovely selection
- Duncan (9/5): Superb -
- Sam (3/5): disappointed not a luxury hotel in our opinion - it had a nice view standard of room was poor
- Judith (7/5): Good but overpriced - The location is beautiful and the property is attractive. The setting, near Dumfores, is quite convenient. My duagher very much appreciated the farm animals. The breakfasts were good. In our room the shower cubicle was very small and cramped - rally rather too cramped for a property at this level of the market. We had dinner the first night, which was quite good, but decidedly overpriced for what it was.
- Richard (8/5): Excellent room, good food in a quirky setting. - Bedroom was exceptional.
Very good dinner.
Quirky feel. Problems with bedroom door key
- Johannes (10/5): Exceptional - Awesome location and a host who really cares about your well-being.
- Charlton (8/5): Very good -
- Graham (9/5): Perfect place for a get away. we would recommend it to anyone. - Fantastic location, really relaxed atmosphere andperfect place for a short break Nothing to dislike
