• Simon (10/5): Great hospitality and convenient for getting to Kandy - The location was convenient for visiting Kandy. The care takers are exceedingly helpful and friendly. The rooms are comfortable. They offer many choices of meals ( which is useful as there isn’t much to walk to nearby , but nothing is too far away by vehicle ). Nothing.

Rooms were great sizes & the outside dining area was big enough for a group of 9 (including 2 small children) to eat. They had a high chair which was much appreciated! Staff were so lovely and accommodating. The breakfast we had here the morning of one of our family members birthdays was the best we had in Sri Lanka! The bbq was also very special. • Mulderij (9/5): Heerlijke villa op prachtige plek - Prachtig ruime villa, 5 slaapkamers met eigen badkamer, superschoon, lekker zwembad, veranda, en een privé kok die ontzettend lekker kon koken. Ongeveer 15 minuten met tuktuk naar centrum. Vonden het in echt nog mooier dan op foto’s . Je moet er eerst aan wennen dat personeel in je huis aanwezig is. Maar na 1 dag is dat “gewoon”. Ze doen alles voor je en zijn bescheiden. Wifi vloog er soms uit, voor ons geen probleem, puberkids minder blij 😉

• Morten (10/5): Fantastisk oplevelse. - Fantastisk indrettet villa med god plads til alle. Vi rejste i en gruppe på 8 personer. Der var dejligt pool og 3 værter i køkkenet under hele opholdet. De var meget venlige og var ikke påtrængende, tvært i mod. Vi fik god morgenmad og fik både grill samt Sri Lanka mad til aftensmad. Begge måltider var fantastiske og anbefalingsværdi. • Yloc (9/5): - Très belle maison avec piscine dans un beau jardin au calme. Nous y avons séjourné à 2 familles, 9 personnes, la maison est grande. Le personnel est présent dans la maison pour les repas ou vous proposer des services. C'est un peu loin du centre de Kandy, ce qui nécessite de prendre une voiture ou un tuktuk pour aller visiter, mais c'est aussi un avantage pour profiter d'un espace au calme.

We ordered the Sri Lankan breakfast one morning, and it was fabulous, a great way to start our trip, and learn about the different dishes. Highly recommend this property when visiting Kandy.
• Bronte (10/5): Home away from home - This residence is exceptional. From arrival to departure all the staff were friendly willing to help and flexible. My partner and I enjoy an early coffee at our home and looked forward to something not Nescafe. Spoke to the kitchen guys, "no problem", 6am? No problem. Freshly brewed while I watched chopping of onions and grinding of fresh coconut. Nothing was a problem! Meals, hot, fresh tasty, varied. Breakfast and dinner both excellent. Nice pool liked by the children. Pretty garden. Second time in Sri Lanka and I guess I won't make it again in this life. Hopefully my children and their children will return to stay with the Surveyor's crew. Not staying long enough

Great pool and very helpful staff made our stay very special. - This property is large, spacious, beautifully furnished and has lovely grounds and pool area. Perfect for our group of 7 to swim and relax after a day of travelling! My only complaint was that my shower head was broken and the water pressure was not great.
• Kay (10/5): A wonderfully unique and special stay - As a party of 6 we have been exploring Sri Lanka for several weeks and our 2 night stay at the Surveyors Bungalow has been the most special so far. Nalin and his team catered for our every need and made us feel like we were superstars. The evening BBQ was delicious which we enjoyed in the beautiful garden setting, matched only by the extensive breakfasts. We only wish that we had more time to be able to stay for longer. Highly recommended.

• Laurianne (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful property only exceeded by Sampath and Amila as caretaker and cook. Delicious food and every detail thought of. Bed a little firm for my taste. Husband loved it as he likes a firm mattress. I would like the option of a blanket and not just a sheet. I know we can control the AC temperature so it's not about being hot or cold, it's just about being used to sleeping with a blanket.

The housekeeper was super friendly and great food cooked for breakfast! The pool is great, but there are a few poorly cut tiles which are sharp and caused some deep cuts.

• Shannon (9/5): A warm, peaceful stay with great food and lovely memories. - The bungalow is located in a quieter part of Kandy, which we absolutely loved. It offered a peaceful retreat away from the bustle of the city centre, yet it was still conveniently close. Since we had a driver, getting around was never an issue. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the lovely caretakers, Nilan and Amila. They immediately helped us settle in and gave us a helpful orientation of the bungalow’s facilities. Throughout our stay, they were incredibly attentive and accommodating, always making sure we were comfortable. We even picked up a few Sinhalese phrases thanks to their kind guidance! Kanchana was also very responsive and went out of her way to accommodate our requests, which we really appreciated. The food was absolutely amazing—we enjoyed a variety of authentic Sri Lankan dishes, all freshly prepared and full of flavour. The bungalow was a lovely place to relax in the afternoons, especially when it was too hot to be out sightseeing. Our children had an absolute ball in the pool and often said this was their favourite place from our entire trip. We’re so grateful for the warmth and hospitality we received—this stay will stay with us for a long time. If I may offer a small suggestion for improvement, the bathroom door latches felt a bit rustic. My husband and I had some difficulty locking them, and unfortunately, we ended up hurting our fingers on a few occasions while trying to get them secured. It would be wonderful if the latches could be updated for easier and safer use.
• Stu (9/5): Superb - Great little classy place with staff on site 24hrs ready to help, staff were genuinely extremely friendly and helpful, went the extra mile to assist with some personal requests. We did feel awkward asking sometimes as we didn't want to feel like we were treating them like servants. Nice quiet location, however town is a little further away requiring a longer walk or tuk tuk but that is probably a blessing being away from the chaos of Kandy. Lovely house and pool, very quaint with a historical twist (you'll understand why it's called what it is).

• Virgo (10/5): Perfect for a family vacation! - A rare gem for holiday with family. Pool has several areas for kids with various ages (we had 3, 6 and 8). The staff in super helpful and friendly - helping with small things (arranging transport, etc). Beautiful small garden and porch to sit and enjoy tea, view, sounds of nature, etc. Safe and quiet area. We have already visited twice and would visit again, if possible. Chef available all day ling and housekeeper 24/7. Possibility to go for a boat trip on the river (5min walk). City center about 15min drive with tuk-tuk. Small things which did not decrease the positive emotions from the stay - like low pressure of water, etc.

• Remi (9/5): Amazing bungalow with amazing staff and great food. - The staff is amazing. Nalin thank you for taken such good care of us. And the cook 🧑‍🍳 🥰. I want to bring him to the Netherlands. That guy can cook. I also loved the swimming pool. And terrace in front to have dinner and relax. I felt bad for our driver that the driver residence was under construction so he could not use it. It was one of the reasons I booked this place. The location is far away from the Kandy lake. With our private driver no problem.

• Sean (5/5): Great staff, but deceptive listing, extra charges, and intrusive check-in process were disappointing - The on-site staff was the only good thing about this place. The manager, staff, and on-site cook were all very friendly and gracious to me and my family, maintaining a high level of professionalism throughout our entire stay. BE AWARE: the listing for this place is deceptively written, as you will be nickel and dimed for everything. I encountered two issues right after arriving. First, I mistakenly assumed that booking the property as a 'villa' included all the rooms, but I brought two extra guests and was charged for them—my oversight. Second, the listing mentions breakfast, but it’s NOT INCLUDED. After speaking with the host, I found out that she lists breakfast, meaning you can have the cook make you something granted you purchase the ingredients.😂 Another thing I didn’t appreciate was the host’s request for guests to write down personal information on a check-in sheet. While providing a name and phone number is reasonable, I didn’t understand why I was asked for a home address, ID/passport number? When I declined to share this information, I was repeatedly urged to provide it.

Pool is definitely a plus to already a beautiful property with high cultural history. Very well suited for large families. Food prepared by the cook is good , a complimentary breakfast would have been a cherry on the top.

• Rome (10/5): A beautifully presented home in gorgeous surrounds - thoroughly recommended! - We absolutely loved our four night stay at the Surveyor's Residence Bungalow. The staff were so helpful, friendly and Selva's cooking was exceptional. Once we had our first breakfast, we choose to eat every meal there as it was so flavoursome, beautifully cooked and a variety of food to choose from. The Indian feast he prepared was outstanding. Nalin had great recommendations for us, and nothing was a problem. The house is gorgeous - with plenty of space, a beautiful garden and a stunning pool. It also has lots of the original surveyor equpment still in it, which makes a lovely story (vs a soulless hotel experience). It is located in an upmarket part of Kandy so we were in a quiet area, surrounded by beautiful homes and an easy tuktuk ride into the city. We would definitely stay here again and were sad to leave. Absolutely nothing.

Lovely pool that gets a little shade over parts of it so great to enjoy all day. It's a period property and has been kept in original condition so not modern but clean and comfortable. The 2 staff onsite really made it great for us. We don't usually book places with staff however they made our stay so comfortable we would recommend them highly. Also recommend using there choice of tuk tuk driver. He was very punctual and gave honest prices. Took us all over Kandy. Great chef cooking some tasty Sri Lankan dishes. Also had friends over and the guys cooked an amazing bbq for us. Good location 3 minutes walk from the Cinnamon Citadel hotel which you can walk up to for lunch or drinks for something different. 10 minutes by tuk tuk into the city centre so a little out of the way but we liked the peace and quiet at night. Great place for families looking to spend time chilling at the house aswell as exploring the local sights. Some of the showers need new fittings. The pressure and temperature was great but I want to stand under it not hold onto it.

The caretaker Mr. Nalin and the rest of the staff were very kind to us and assisted us in everything we asked, including arrangements with transfers and tours around the island. The residence itself (including the pool with the area around it) was comfortable and big enough to fit 7 friends. Lots of books about local culture and nature are available for the guests, including birdwatching manuals (and even equipment). Last but not least, the food was delicious, including both western and local cuisine. Highly recommend this place!

Hot water system in the house was utilizing solar and with no sunshine during our visit, we couldnt get hot showers.

The house is beautiful and themed around the "Surveyor" who owns it. We requested a menu for dinner and Nalin went out of his way to prepare an exceptional meal using fresh ingredients. Everything was exceptional.

• Gandhi (9/5): Nice, spacious bungalow for friends & families to stay in Kandy - We got the whole bungalow to ourselves. Nalin & Deva (hope I got the latter's name right) were great hosts and took good care of us. The whole house was maintained well and it was nice to check out all the surveyor equipment. The kids wanted to stay an extra day because the property had much to offer. Pool was fantastic. We all stayed in a room which had a large bed + 2 bunk beds On the night we arrived, Nalin & Deva made us a nice pot of tea, which was very invigorating after a long drive. Even though it was past dinner-time The owner Channa also told us about the bird-spotting scope and the cheat-sheet of various birds we could see from the garden. Unfortunately, it was a bit late in the morning (better to do the bird watching around 6-7 AM before they disappear) Though Google Maps goofed up and made it a bit hard to find the place at night, you realize that its on a fairly decent road during the daytime and there is a big hotel nearby It was a breeze to coordinate with Channa via phone/WhatsApp. He even inquired before we came, to ask about the dinner we wanted We'd highly recommend this place for groups of friends and families to spend a few days! You will have a nice, relaxing time. The shower did not have hot water, only warm. That was because they use a solar water heater and it doesn't get much heat/light during the winter months. I'd recommend they add an additional heater unit, because winter is the time when people would need hot water There were a couple of minor inter-personal annoyances: Nalin asked on the first night we arrived whether we would be paying right away (its customary that people would pay on the day of leaving). Also, at the time of checking out, he said there was 1 towel missing, which we showed him was on the bed. When we pay $100 per night, we wouldn't be taking home hotel towels. I realize he is doing his job, but perhaps he could be taught to do it with more tact
• David (9/5): Oasis of calm on the outskirts of Kandy. - Great out of city location. Just a 10 minute tuck tuck ride into town. Very accommodating host, friendly and very helpful arranging sightseeing and transport. Superb chef. Highly recommended
• Jacob (8/5): Good place for big group with additional services - We were a big group of 4 families. We had enough space and the house was enough for us. We were lucky because it was not rainy and thanks to it hosts organized a barbecue for us. What was rather unpopular in the service we had 2 hosts how were cooking and serving. communication sometimes was quiet difficult. Managing some things took more time than expected.
• Padmaraj (10/5): Provides the feel of comfort and definitely recommend stay at this place. - Nice ambience with a homely feeling with great assistance from caretaker Mr. Nalini and delicious food by Mr. Chellayya. The brinjal moju was amazing. Constant follow-up and updates from Kanchana is highly appreciated. The mornings are welcome by peacock sound from the bushes from the rear of the residence. Location was great with a feel of village with a rivulet/stream and a small paddy field opposite to the residence. Suitable for those who may like to be a bit off from the city crowd, but at the same time within the reach of town facilities.
• Ahmed (10/5): Family of 6 stayed for 4 nights. - Everything was excellent, great villa, great team special thanks to.Mr. Nalin, for his always support, welcoming. You have to try the chief coking of Srilankan traditional food in breakfast and lunch. it's really delicious. Highly recommended for family. Great location, clean villa and good swimming pool. • Heather (9/5): Fabulous "home away from home" on holidays - The house is large, stylish, relaxed and has touches of the original surveyor in the decor. The rooms are large and very clean, with space for a large family group. The pool is lovely and the garden is visited by mongooses 😊 The best part of this stay though are the host Nilin and the chef Silva. They were so helpful and friendly for our stay. They provided delicious meals, including the best Indian breakfast I have had in my life. They will shop for groceries (visitor pays for the groceries) and then cook up a storm for you. Nilin also organised some washing for us which is important while travelling as a family! We absolutely recommend the surveyors residence for a stay in Kandy. It is a tuk tuk or car trip from the city centre but this makes it quiet at night! Nothing. Perhaps add a couple of seats in the tv room.
• Rusiru (10/5): We travelled as a family and had the whole bungalow to ourselves, so we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. - Obviously, the swimming pool and Mr. Nalin took good care of all of us. Nothing to mention !
