Guest Reviews
- Gareth (8/5): Conformable historic home - The house had just the right balance of new (nice big tv, full sized modern fridge) and original/old (interesting antiques around the house). We found the bed to be very good. It was very quiet. Nothing
- Natalie (10/5): Wonderful memorable a step back in time - The breakfast was lovely and more than enough and our Host ensured we had everything we needed, yet totally respected our privacy.
- Stuart (9/5): Great location, great hosts. Very nicely decorated and a great weekend away up in the tablelands and a fantastic base to - The hosts went out of their way and made a birthday cake when I told them that it was my partner‘s surprise birthday weekend away. During a windy night a few of the doors kept opening and woke us up.
- Tralalane (10/5): Amazing experience, very relaxing. - The house is 116 years old and absolutely beautiful. Our host went above and beyond our expectations with her warm hospitality and her pride for her home. Highly recommend experiencing this beautiful house and the quaint little town of Herberton. Thank you so much for an amazing stay.
- Peter (2/5): Don't waste your time and money - Nothing .grubby but neat.owner lives down stairs and her cats roamed in the house and kitchen at will. Out side is a mess as is the neighbours junk yard..bathrooms are unhygienic. Everything
- Maurice (10/5): We thoroughly enjoyed the 1900’s period styled house. There are large rooms and plenty of space. - The breakfast was exceptional. Well presented fresh local produce in abundance. The Herberton Railway Masters House is a perfect location for visiting the many tourist attractions of the Atherton Tablelands. Also nearby to the amazing Herberton Historic Village. Most convenient if you purchase a ticket ( valid for 3 days ). No dislikes. We can not think of anything that could have been done better. The open windows, large veranda and cool fresh air was much preferred than the closed in air conditioning at other accomodations.
- Guest (10/5): An absolute gem in Herberton with great character and a very homely feel. - Beautifully maintained with antique charm. Exceptionally clean with very comfy beds. The host was kind, generous and welcoming and provided an amazing breakfast tray.
- Dave (10/5): - A historical treasure trove that the owners have brought back to life in such an amazing way
- Xena (8/5): Quirky dog friendly stay, great location - Dog friendly heritage property with a lovely history well known by the owner and neighbour who will keep you talking in the best possible way!
Welcome tray with jams, marmalade, eggs, toast etx for breakfast served on a silver platter felt like I was lady of the manor.
Good parking and private entrance.
Outdoor private garden space and large upper balcony both with table and chairs.
Great aircon.
Comfortable beds even if I found the rooms a bit spooky :) It is a little dark on your way back from the main street, so take a torch. Generally quiet but lots of birds first thing, so if you're an early riser that's ok.
- Leon (4/5): Could be improved - The beds were comfortable There is so much stuff on everything there was no room for your personal items.
Great museum but not for stays.
Owner always in your face no privacy.
No places to eat in Herberton, local pubs do not serve food and no restaurant in town.
Check railway schedules, do to up coming event the following weekend,Nothing open.

- Joanne (10/5): My friend and I enjoyed staying at this property very much. our host Tanya could not do enough for us - It was like stepping back in time. Our host Tanya has done a beautiful job collecting just the right amount of memorabilia to make you feel like you’re living in a house from 100 years ago. But with a modern kitchen and laundry facilities. The property does not have AirCon. I could see this would be a problem during summer. However, fans are provided..
- Iain (10/5): Old, interesting and very comfortable - One of the most comfortable and interesting places I've ever stayed. That I was only able to stay a short while.
- peter (10/5): Different, fun and beautifully done. - We loved the attention to detail. Wonderful railway items all around the home, very tastefully done.
Plenty of room, very clean and although you felt like you’d gone back in time, the internet worked fine, the fridge and microwave were modern and worked well.
Fully functional kitchen, nice breakfast in the fridge, complete with locally sourced fresh produce.
Absolutely loved this stay and such a change from the normal boring hotel.
Tanya I think her name was, also could not have been more welcoming and friendly. Honestly one of the best value stays for my daughter and I in a long time. Loved it. Upright oven needed some love :)
Definitely had its day. A little bit out of the way too get to but worth it.
I would definitely recommend it and stay there again

- claire (10/5): Lots of character, great fun - This place is full of character and the host is very warm and friendly. It is a great place to stay if you enjoy the quirky and offbeat--it is most certainly not a bland hotel. The breakfast was very generous.
- Margarette (9/5): Love it being pet friendly -
- Therese (8/5): A very comfortable house as a base for seeing Herberton and surrounds. - The breakfast was very impressive - eggs, toast, cereals, fruit, yoghurt and more. We also enjoyed the fruit and nuts to snack on during the day. The house was an easy walk from the shops, cafes and mining museum, which was very interesting. We approached the house with apprehension as we had read a bad review and had also discovered we only had the top floor, not the entire house as advertised. This proved to be a minor issue. The top floor was spacious and comfortable. Maybe too many ornaments if you had small children running about and some noise carried between levels, though I didn't find this a problem.
- Catherine (8/5): - The attention to details of the old furniture and accessories
- Elaine (6/5): Host is lovely and really having a go. - Unfortunately this is advertised incorrectly, it’s a B&B. It isn’t an entire house, it upstairs and owners live downstairs and you can hear everything through floor. Outside of property needs work but inside is very well done. The host is lovely and really having a go. Not private at all and was over priced for 2 people when it wasn’t an entire house. Unfortunately area/suburb needs improvements, as both pubs bistros closed and no where to get dinner.

- Chris (10/5): This was a great place & I’d certainly stay here again. - Lovely historic house filled with many interesting antique items, both large and small.
The home is very spacious and would easily accommodate most families. The house is very well equipped. The hostess is lovely and very accommodating.
Herberton is also a great location for a visit to the Atherton Tableland. Nothing disliked.
- Michelle (10/5): Step back in time - What a suprise when our lovely host opened the doors to our railway station masters house! We didn't know which way to look! The accommodation was decorated tastefully with beautiful antiques and local memorabilia. The house has been restored and looks spick and span, whilst maintaining the original floor plan and features.
Breakfast goodies were supplied and presented beautifully on silver trays and glass jugs.
The washing machine and dryer was an added bonus.
We have never had the opportunity to stay in an old "Queenslander" so spending the night in Herberton in this special house was an experience we will never forget. Certainly not another boring apartment/hotel! Nothing
- Juanita (1/5): Not as described would not visit again, overall bad experience. - The accommodation is upstairs of the owner's house and you can hear them downstairs. It's very loud. This was not clear in the write up and we would never have booked this if we'd known.
The side of the house steps are quite steep going up to the accommodation and the stairs are unstable and dangerous, especially at night when there is no outside light.
On arrival the owner takes you through every room in the accommodation, which is not necessary and it's quite tiresome. She also gives you multiple warnings not to talk to her neighbour, which is very off putting. The very negative way the owner talks about her neighbour is not how I want to start my relaxing break away.
The accommodation says dog friendly but it's not really, the steps down to the little bit of grass are steep and the grass area is absolutely covered in chicken poo. It's got a very bad smell and we didn't feel comfortable letting our dog use this space on his own. You could hardly find anywhere to walk in the small little area either due to chicken mess.
The house was dusty, especially the curtains and other furniture, and quite old musty smelling.
We did not stay as the accommodation is not as described and the owner really makes you uneasy when clearly she's having some problems with her neighbour and wants to tell you about it the minute you arrive.
- Brian (7/5): An old house with character. Don’t judge a book by its cover. - Inside was clean and tidy with lots of memorabilia and artifacts from the areas historical past. Breakfast spread was great and cooked how I like it. Very cosy. The host was very approachable and understood our needs. The beds were comfortable too. The external features of the house made it not present well and needs some TLC.however it is lots better than some of the neighbouring properties.
- Christine (9/5): A lovely stay in an historic homestead - It was a very well presented historic home, very comfortable with a lovely balcony area. A lovely breakfast was supplied
- Glenn (10/5): Top Place Great People - Great hosts and went above and beyond to make our stay excellent. That we didn't stay longer.
- Sophia (10/5): Wonderful place to stay! We hope to be back some day - We loved our stay at the old railway masters house. The hosts have done a wonderful job setting it up with lots of antiques. My 83yo dad said it was like staying in an art exhibition and didn't want to leave. The breakfast tray was large with lots of choices, beds super comfy and the heaters made it very cosy quickly (we're not used to the cold). It's a short walk around the corner to the shops. Nothing really, we loved it thank you!
- Karla (9/5): a really enjoyable weekend - We were met by Tanya as we pulled up and the whole weekend went up from there. the house is charming. it is old.....
1909 old and set up with lots of memorabilia to give you a feel of the period. The house is set up with everything you need for a stay. The dining room table is set for royal feast and we loved sitting there having breakfast. the heaters work a treat so don't worry about the cold temperature. the hot water in the showers is hot hot hot and the pressure is great. The breakfast is unbelievable. there is so much to choose from. 3 cereals, fresh eggs, bread for toast with all the toppings, fruit, yoghurt, dried fruits, 2 types of juice, tea, coffee and fresh milk. and the muffins Tanya made which didn't make it to breakfast and tasted great. Tanya is a great host and made our stay very enjoyable There wasn't anything we didn't like. the bush turkeys jumping up on the roof in the evening had us thinking the place was haunted but sadly it was just the wildlife
- Graham (8/5): Quirky and welcoming. Great host :) - Great breakfast. Friendly hostess. Lots of interesting stories. Big effort here to make it feel historic. A visit from the downstairs cats into our top storey. Noise travels a lot so you feel a bit awkward making noise, using the bathroom or having the telly on too late. I don’t think Tania would have minded but it was just me.
- Jane (9/5): Wonderful breakfast in a beautiful home enjoyed our stay. - The home is really spacious and well stocked with everything we needed. The charming home had lovely furnishings and was very comfortable . We enjoyed our large breakfast that was supplied by the host in the homes beautiful dining room. Host was friendly and pleasant showing us through the house upon arrival, we enjoyed the privacy and quietness of the home to ourselves. Our little dog loved it secure yard was great.
- Bruce (9/5): A unique experience in historical Herberton. -
- Fiona (9/5): Superb - A hidden gem. Perfect place to escape the riff raff and switch off. The property is cosy and wonderfully presented. Clean and tidy. Fully equipped.
- Nadine (9/5): Superb - We loved the age of the house and how it had been styled to the era. Plus all the memorabilia of the towns history. The host was very helpful. Breakfast was huge.
- Grant (9/5): Superb -
- Duane (10/5): Exceptional - Everything Norhing
- Kym (8/5): Hidden gem - Quaint property nicely decorated. Comfortable and friendly. Works well if visiting historical village. Telstra is only provider that operates in the area so make sure you have address noted down before you get there.
- Howard (8/5): Very good -
- Monique (10/5): Step back into yesteryear. The station master house is a fabulous place to stay whilst you explore Historical Herberton. - Old style charm which keeps in with the theme of this beautiful, historical little town.
I felt like I was back in my grandmothers old house.
Tanya was a very welcoming and friendly host, she went above and beyond to ensure I was comfortable and had everything I needed.
The breakfast provided was top notch!😃
- Gayle (9/5): Really what we were expecting, a unique stay in a very special property. - That is was unique and authentic. Welcoming helpful owners.
