Guest Reviews
- Lawrence (10/5): Great family weekend - The location was perfect N/A
- Hayley (1/5): Please avoid, far from luxury and unclean - I would strongly advise prospective guests to reconsider booking this property and to seek alternative accommodation. If this apartment is presented as “luxury,” then the term has been applied very loosely indeed.
From the outset, the standard of cleanliness was wholly unacceptable. This was not a matter of general wear and tear or the property being in need of refurbishment, but rather a clear failure to clean between guests. Upon arrival, there were used false eyelashes left on the bathroom sink, along with dead insects scattered across the floor. Having to vacuum the apartment immediately upon check-in is not something any guest should reasonably expect.
The windows posed a further and significant issue. While older, single-glazed windows are understandable, these were not functioning at all. One window would not close and had been crudely wedged shut using kitchen paper. As a result, the room was extremely cold and considerably noisier than it should have been. This is clearly a known fault that has simply been left unresolved, detracting substantially from what could otherwise have been a pleasant space.
Most concerning, however, was the presence of insects. When the heating was switched on, large numbers of ladybirds emerged, flying freely around the room and landing indiscriminately, including on guests. This was not an isolated incident but occurred repeatedly whenever the room warmed. Dead insects were also visible throughout the apartment, further highlighting the lack of proper cleaning. While the host attempted to downplay the situation by stating that it did not constitute an infestation, the volume and frequency of insects made the stay deeply uncomfortable.
These issues were raised with the host during the stay. Unfortunately, no meaningful resolution was offered. Communication was slow, with prolonged delays while the host attempted to contact the owner, who appeared unresponsive and I still await a reply. Please also read previous reviews!
- Rebeccat (4/5): Awful - i wouldnt stay - I'm not really sure what I did like if i'm honest hahah - the thai down the road?! One of the bathrooms absolutely stunk, had a broken toilet seat, the bedroom with two single beds had cob webs hanging from the lamp ( i know its nearly halloween but come on ) the shower was mouldy, the dishes werent probably cleaned. It really wasnt a pleasant stay. Its also very nosiey so sleeping isnt an option. I wouldnt recommend anyone staying here. They are also very slow to reply - we thought we would be sleeping in the car!
Collecting the keys was an absolute nightmare - they give you the code for the key box however fail to mention which key box out of the 7 it is. It took 5 of us to work it out - and no one was responding or replying to us.
- Claire (1/5): I could not stay due to know acces please don’t book this property they take your money & leave u out in the cold. T - I was not able to access the property & could not stay due to the owner not providing the key code to get in. I traveled well over 3.5 hrs to find I could not get in plus had know where to stay completely let down!. Do not stay at this property I had no access to the property after trying to communicate with the owner still no reply & was left with no access & know where to stay after a 3:5 hr travel.I still have not had a refund for my money & still no communication from the owner not happy at all
- Lucy (6/5): Great location .spacious apartment - Location

Very hard to find
no £1 car park
broken toilet
suarag smell in first bathroom
mould and leaking toilet in the second bathroom
Bin that had leaked in the wardrobe, yes in the wardrobe.
Missing blind in the bedroom
cheap bedding and towels
1 sause pan no frying pan
dirty fridge over frozen frezzer
BLACK MOULD FROM THE KITCHEN TAP IT REALLY SHOULDN'T BE USED
- Nadine (10/5): - The appartment The stairs lol 😆
- Jason (1/5): Absolutely shocking and - Arrived no way of getting in touch with the owner calls were blocked we paid our fee on the Monday as we were booked for Friday till Saturday, sat in car park for 45 mins to be told by booking.com that couldn't do anything till 9 the following morning so we were sat in a car with a 5 year old and ended up going back home.
Next day booking.com told us we had cancelled and won't get our money back, let me tell you I WILL be getting my money back and have sent and email to ombudsman🤬🤬🤬🤬 Been sat in a car park for 45 mins.
Paying 157.00 for nothing
- Pam (3/5): Location is perfect for Matlock town centre but any issues raised in reviews should be addressed to ensure the descripti - Location. Spacious apartment but let down by lack of details in the description. Several items not as described in the publicity or a concern whilst staying:
*incorrect address. Entrance door is around the corner on Old Englishe Road not Dale Road. Had to call to find this out.
* no private parking. Parking was limited on street or pay for car park. Extra costs not expecting.
* cockroach found in bedroom.
* blinds difficult to use and one missing in bedroom.
* wc seat not attached
* foul smell from bathrooms
* missing from description is the amount of stairs to access the apartment, 47!! This was not shared anywhere in the description other than from reviews which I wish I had read beforehand. Some of these issues have been highlighted months ago and have obviously not been addressed.
All the above issues communicated to host. Initially for access was by phone. Any other issue were via email. A response was received but always thanks for raising concerns, will look into and get back to me. Never get answer especially to the parking issue.
- cheryl (8/5): - A bit noise because of the pubs and road not much sleep 😥 The location
- nicola (8/5): Great location needs updating - Location was perfect, apartment was clean and had all facilities you could need and more. Upon arrival parking was a problem not £1 a day as mentioned, the blinds in the apartment did not work nearly all were broken and finally the wooden window frames were that rotten we didn't dare open the windows incase they fell to the street below.
- Nadine (7/5): Schönes Apartment in zentraler Lage.
- Steven (4/5): - Location was good for the town As other guests have stated there is an unpleasant smell in the bedroom and lots of stairs to navigate
Very poor quality mattress
Soft and You can feel the springs!
Parking very misleading, we were told private parking was available when we booked. We parked in a private car park and worried the whole stay about getting clampled. I had to leave a note in the car window!
When we enquired on the day we didn't get a straight answer, stressful.
We would not stay here again.
- Zsofia (1/5): - Nothing Really bad check-in experience
High-chair and baby cot not provided
Not sufficiently clean (found fake eyelashes in the bed)
Cupboards not secured to walls
"Customer service" is probably a bot or not allowed to say anything meaningful
Would not book again
- Jon (10/5): Excellent all round Thankyou - Very spacious , clean and tidy, communication good. Only negative is the apartment is on the top floor which wasn’t an issue for us but might be for some.
- Dave (8/5): - Stay was good getting inside the property was hard Just getting in security
- Jessica (3/5): Disappointed and very expensive - Location Parking is near the building and is £1 overnight only. There are additional parking charges during the day.
Check in is at 3 but the problem is there was no keys left in the security box. Note none of the security boxes have numbers to reference which flat they open.
As there were no keys we could not go for a drink incase we had to drive home. After various calls the keys arrived at 5.30 where we had to collect them from a unfriendly uber driver outside the building, lucky we were still in the vicinity.
Upon finally entering the building you are presented with a unique aroma of stale Indian restaurant uniquely blended with damp building, which you would not bottle nor sell.
After navigating approximately 40 steps through a stained communal hallway that has never seen a hoover or carpet cleaner you arrive!
The flat is worn, the blinds in one bedroom were blown off and ripped in half. The wardrobes are full of bins and clutter so don't plan on hanging any clothes. Ironically there is a blind in the wardrobe! Kick boards in the kitchen also need repairing.
The shower(s) sealant have there own eco system which David Attenborough could make a documentary on. The mould is a cross between Alexander Flemming petri dish and global diseases leaving Wuhan.
One of the blinds in the master bedroom is completely missing so you are not able to block out the light. Vampires beware!
The single pane windows and rotten window sills do nothing to deflect the sounds from the street, pub below, nor any drunken schnanigans.
Once you think the noise has subsided the next cohort of drunken romantics play out their domestic situation, think Jeremy Kyle at full volume at 1am.
The flat is a typical rental flat, that needs maintenance and would be well suited for stag and hen parties.
Yes there is a washer and dishwasher in the flat but you can stay in student digs which have better facilities and at a more realistic rental price.
- Paul (10/5): Superb apartment in a beautiful location - Stunning location in the heart of Matlock, fantastic wine bars and pubs only 5 min walk away and staying on a Friday evening Matlock was buzzing. Superb amenities in the apartment very spacious and the living / Kitchen area was fabulous. We loved it The steps - there’s quite a few flights of stairs up to the apartment but it’s not a deal breaker by any means!
- Horton (1/5): Terrible - my toddler ended up sleeping on the floor! - From start to finish the experience was poor - I urge you not to stay here. The process of getting the key was painful and there were 4 key boxes to work through like you’re in an escape room. Then through a tired stinky corridor to the flat. I’d emailed the week before to check there was a travel cot and high chair and they confirmed both. Yet on arrival no high chair and the high chair was in pieces with no screws! We were repeatedly asked if we had ‘settled in’ but no one was around to help. My one year old ended up sleeping on the floor - a shocking experience and now no reply once we’ve sought compensation. Booking.com should remove this property for the lies and bad treatment of families
- Linda (4/5): Good bad and ugly - Location When we booked it we where not told it was top floor loads of stairs.it was very noisy with it been on main street.bedding was grey sheets stained mattress protector smelly big bin in wardrobe smelt like a toilet so couldn't use that it says private parking with property not true we had to park in carpark near by £6.30 a day and night. it says £1 a day on advert.not enough seating in comfort for more then 2 small settee.it says Netflix you can only use it if you have your own account.freezer in fridge was totally iced up.i would not recommend,we have stayed in far nicer places I did message owners they said they would look into it and get back to me never heard anymore if we hadn't been so far from home I would have gone home I couldn't sleep on sheets ,so I went out and bought some and layed on top of quilt with new sheets over and new pillows cases
- Libby (7/5): Needs improvement. - The apartment is conveniently located, is roomy and comfortable. WI-FI worked very well and in all rooms and the hot water was plentiful. Whilst this is a lovely apartment there are areas that need improvement.
Firstly its tag line says it luxurious. This would imply quality bed linen and towels. Neither of which are in this property. The towels have pulled threads and are old and faded. The bedding is cheap and the polyester duvet is far from luxury. There is a blind missing in the main bedroom and if you are going to provide a clock make sure there is a battery in it so it works, also there isn’t a hairdryer in this luxury apartment. Well not in the logical places.
Again in this luxurious property a starter pack for the dishwasher and washing machine is expected along with more than one tea towel.
Cleaning of this property is not up to standard. The freezer is frozen over, not even ice cubes for a G&T! The water jug in the fridge was empty and had mould in it. Baking dishes couldn’t be used because they were so dirty, the washing machine had wet tissues in it and the lights over the stove top don’t work. There is no broom but there is a vacuum cleaner but no hose to attach so totally useless. Again little things make a difference especially when you are here for three nights.
This is a property for 4 guests but only has two wine glasses and not even a cork screw for opening wine. And to be even more critical of the luxurious tag… the lounge makes you sit upright like soldiers but only for three guests, no lounging here. Again not luxurious. The other comments regarding dust and mould are accurate.
This is another property taking advantage of honest paying guests who assume their hosts are doing the right thing by them, the consumer. If this property is being managed by a third party you need to lift your game and if you are the owner you need to fall in love with your property again.
- Daniel (7/5): Handy for everything if you don’t mind a bit of noise. - Nice flat, comfortable and spacious. Finding the right door and key at checkin was harder than it should be. Entrance to Flat 10 is round the corner off the main road. Noisy due to traffic proximity.
- Roxanne (9/5): Superb -
- Heather (9/5): Superb - This is a very large, spacious apartment on the top floor of an old characterful corner building in the centre of Matlock.. Sloping roofs and lots of light gave it a nice feel. It has been fitted out to a high standard and the space well used.
There is ample space for a family up here, with a double bed in one room and 2 singles in the other. Both have en suite facilities.
First impressions on entering were good. Everything was well presented. There is a mix of old and modern furniture which, along with the owners taste in artwork works well.
Very nice kitchen space complete with washing machine, dishwasher, oven/hob, fridge and other small necessary appliances... kettle, microwave etc.
Everything there for modern living.
Views from the windows were charming... lovely old rooftops, chimneys, and all the fabulous old buildings of Dale Road. Riber Castle visible atop its hill as well as the top of High Tor. Lots of leafy trees too.
An excellent base for exploring the area. Dale Road carries a lot of traffic, so you do get noise from that. It could be reduced somewhat if some attention was given to the windows which are not double glazed and have the original wooden frames. Draught excluder has been applied, but this is not a wholly effective measure and a visible gap of 0.5cm can be seen on the diner window overlooking Monk Bar. It is the wooden frame holding the close latch that needs fixing there
The shower tray in the double bed en suite needs some new sealant applying to get rid of hard to shift mould.
The bedroom blinds need fixing properly as there was no pull cord on the blind in the room with single beds. The blind in the double bedroom would not raise correctly and one of the small side window blinds was missing altogether.
It also would have been nice to have received access information about 24 hours ahead of arrival rather than having to chase this on arrival day...causes anxiety.
- Brendan (2/5): There are NO circumstances under which I would return to this flat. I recommend other potential renters find alternative - Matlock
The location was central and the hot water pressure good. Unfortunately those were the only 2 positives as the listing significantly misrepresented the features and the flat was dirty and under-equipped. The listing claimed there was onsite parking for £1 per day, a fireplace, and a terrace with a garden view however NONE of these existed. After check-in we asked the owner about the parking and he responded there was no parking onsite at all. The closest public parking cost around £10 per day. The listing also indicated the flat was on the 1st floor however it is 47 stairs from the street to the flat. We brought these matters up with the owner who responded that it was our “interpretation” of his listing that was the problem.
The shower off the main bedroom had large amounts of mould on the wall and floor. The other shower had the plug hole jammed with a large wad of hair. The carpets were dirty throughout the flat.
The kitchen had no tea towels, oven mitts, garbage bags, or broom. There were only 2 wines glasses for four guests.
- Olivia (10/5): Amazing - Very spacious, perfect location, lovely interior
- Evelyn (8/5): Nice central apartment - Excellent location very close to centre of Matlock and all facilities. Spacious apartment, full facilities. Clean and comfortable - don't be put off by the slightly tired central stairway/carpet - it's much nicer in the apartment itself. Close to lots of lovely places to visit and walk. My only comment is that the parking is not as advertised. It states private parking available on site, no need to book ahead, £1 a day. This is not correct - I contacted the hosts on arrival to ask for more details but they either did not know or did not tell me. There is a small public car park very close behind the apartment but this is only £1 for overnight charge 6 pm-8 am. Hourly rate all other times and it does get busy. So it is okay as long as you are out most of the day - it's either cash or app payment. I think the property should clarify this information on their profile.
- Joely (10/5): Exceptional -
- Matthew (9/5): Really enjoyed it, the location was fantastic with easy access to all shops and park. - Location was great and hosts was really helpful. Layout of the apartment was well laid out and was very good for us with a toddler. WIFI connection was not great, did help us though not spend too much time in front of a screen which was a bonus :). The hot water was ok but could be improved.
- Lauren (5/5): If we had knew the issues that would arise during our stay then we would not have booked this property and would had gon - Property was in a very good location and was comfortable to be in. No working WiFi the entire time and had to contact the owner multiple times to get this resolved. We eventually were offered a refund of 15% which we are yet to receive. Overall, communication definitely needs working on as we shouldn’t have to had to chase this issue for as long as we did before this got resolved.
No working hoover. There were shoes in the main bedroom wardrobe that left a bad smell in the room. Also as we arrived, we had an issue with the lockbox. We had to try multiple lockboxes to find our keys as they were not labelled to indicate which property was ours.
- James (4/5): It could be a nice place but its badly looked after. Very disappointing. - Location is good. Flat could be nice but was not well maintained. Poorly maintained and cleaned. Crumbs left in kitchen. Shoes left in wardrobe. Hairs left on tiles of shower. Shower tiles and tray not cleaned properly - orange scum on surfaces. Wifi not connected. Lightbulbs were out in kitchen and hallway. Bottom of the fridge was several inches full of water. Bloodstain or lipstick stain on duvet cover. Getting in was difficult. Address for access door is incorrect - its on Olde English Road, not Dale Road. Had been trying the keybox on Dale Road for some time before a resident helped me find the right door. The keybox was not labelled so had to try code in all four of them. Contacted the owners but all I got were apologies without action. No attempt to fix the problems whilst I was there and no refund / discount offered.
- Matthew (6/5): Pleasant - The space worked well (once we had climbed the many stairs). Warm and comfortable The internet was not connected during our whole stay. The people managing the property said that it would be sorted during our stay but went dark on communication after me notifying them.
- Sheila (9/5): Once we were in, stay was really good. - Clean spacious flat with nice decor and facilities. Great location. Allowed us in a bit earlier. Nice and warm. Showers good. Two bathrooms was a bonus. Getting instructions only 90 minutes before arrival caused anxiety. Four key boxes outside flat were not labelled so had to contact host for help. Host said he would add this to instructions in the future.
- Cy (9/5): Spotlessly clean, spacious and in a great location - Spotlessly clean, spacious and in a great location. Good communication with provider to ensure a smooth arrival process
