Guest Reviews
- Marja (10/5): Solo traveller's dream, who seeks quietness and smooth being. - Serenity and friendliness, and morning yoga & afternoon meditation.
- Prachi (5/5): Not worth the cost compared to the other nearby resorts. - I liked the location and the hospitality from the staff. Not much else. - I write this review after having stayed one night at Niraamaya and 2 nights at another resort nearby (similar price range). Niraamaya was a disappointment, while the other resort was much better and felt better value for money
- Paid 16-17k for one night for the superior lake view room - not worth the price at all unfortunately
- photo of the view - obstructed by curtains - such a stupid design for a premium room category
- Subpar plumbing fixtures in the bathroom
- Electricity kept tripping multiple times (5 times within an hour at one point) which kept resetting the wifi and even the water pump because water would pause for a minute in the taps
- 8am in the morning there was a guy running a loud leaf blower in the garden area which was extremely noisy and woke us up
- Restaurant food orders took 30-35 mins on average to arrive, even a simple masala omelette took 25 mins
- Quality and taste of food pretty average and these dishes were not cheap
- Good location and very kind and hospitable people but overall the upkeep and facilities of the resort did not match up to the cost
- Mervin (6/5): -
- Ashish (4/5): The shower cubicle did not have any option to hang a towel and the door opened on the toilet seat - It was very basic, not comparable to the name of the hotel The fruit was extremely low quality with the same two options on each day, no fresh fruit juice and the local delicacies could have been included with variety
- Ruchir (10/5): -
- Jacob Joseph (3/5): Disappointed - It has great location Outdated. Staff are poorly trained. Kitchen is slow.
- Vikram (10/5): Highly Recommend! - Amazing location, lots of activities, kids and family friendly, great view of the sunset, great staff, great food. Highly recommend.
- Manoj (8/5): Lovely place to be with ur loved ones for a vacation - Good location. Well kept. Efficient front office staff. Good spa team. Great evening experiences with the special dance performances. Food & beverage as well as housekeeping staff a bit stressed up. Communication between related staff due to language and cultural differences could be a cause. Solvable.
- Raina (1/5): -
- Richa (6/5): Lovely property but staff really need better training and management for the pifce you are paying - Lovely grounds, large rooms,
Tranquil setting Very poor staff management overall, lots of staff standing around but chaotic and not customer focused.
For this much money per night, the service definetly does not meeting expectations. The level of organisation and staff are not up to the mark
- Room cleaning - dont replenish things if not there, glasses etc. shampoo comditioner bottles not working, not checked and staff didnt do anything once notified.
- Tv channels not working, waited 30 minutes not fixed had to just go to another room. Staff didnt care or try to get this fixed.
- Restaurant - very haphazard. No one owning the process, takes a long time hard to find people and very slow.
- Rithik (9/5): Incredible value for a beautiful hotel with some incredibly kind staff. - Hotel was gorgeous and the staff were so incredibly kind and thoughtful. The room was large, great value - in particular the bathroom and shower were great. The restaurant served authentic flavourful Keralan food, and were happy to make suggestions or adjustments.
- KUNAL (10/5): -
- Yatheesh (8/5): -
- Dr RENJU (10/5): -
- Charlie (10/5): - It was a great experience. A proper retreat and spa. I got a full body massage and so did 2 other members of my family. Will recommend to people for sure.
- Vijay (7/5): Good -
- Gaabi (9/5): Superb -
- Ashutosh (10/5): - What a beautiful resort this was. We stayed there for our anniversary trip. The staff from welcome to dinning to housekeeping were are super warm and friendly. And, they did an amazing job making us feel extra special - especially with all the decorations for our room and helping plan a beautiful candle light dinner. The view from our villa was gorgeous. The only icky thing was that since pool area is also surrounded with tropical plants, there were some bugs from the plants n all that would be floating in the pool.
- Radhika (8/5): Lovely property, exceptional staff but not worth the money we spent - The property boasts a beautiful location with serene surroundings and stunning backwater views, perfect for sunset watching. The well-maintained and clean premises enhance the tranquil experience. The staff, especially the General Manager, provided exceptional hospitality, going above and beyond to ensure a comfortable stay with personalized recommendations. Our stay did not meet our expectations, given the price. We were looking for a retreat that combined yoga, meditation, and spa therapies, but while the spa was good, the therapy options were limited.
The resort offered complimentary morning and evening yoga along with high tea. However, the morning session was primarily Om chanting rather than a full yoga practice. The evening yoga took place on the lawn during high tea, making it difficult to attend both. Additionally, the session lacked tranquility, as it was held in front of guests enjoying their tea.
The food was average, with limited vegetarian options. Between 4-7 PM, the only available food option was French fries, as the kitchen prioritized high tea service, which included only biscuits and aloo vada. After a six-hour road trip, this was insufficient.
Overall, while the spa was decent, the experience fell short of what we had hoped for.
- Benson (8/5): Very good - Liked everything overall.. good ambiance
- Tomy (8/5): - Evening performance by artists
- Tomy (8/5): - Performance by various artists during evenings
- Manoj (9/5): Superb -
- Manuel (10/5): Amazing! - The entire experience was great, near the hotel there are a lot of restaraunt and place to visit like bird watching and the possiblity of the boat service, the staff were cordially and the condiction of the room was grat! Thank you I think is the only one that has a private swimming pool but the problem is the privacy, i mean if i want to relax or stay in my own the problem is the people outside that can look inside because the leaves didn't garantee the privacy request
- Karen (3/5): Spend your money elsewhere - Lovely setting and a warm welcome. Luxury pool villa was spacious. Dirty and tatty.
Poor quality food in the restaurant.
Tried to charge 30% more than the agreed booking. They could not resolve within 24 hrs so left early. 4 days later they have still failed to respond to Booking.com!
- Frank (10/5): Wonderful, relaxing resort and spa with warm and friendly service. -
- Ken (5/5): The overall stay was enjoyable but the resort needs to look at their guests feedback and react on the issues being raise - The location & food. The lack of care when booking in plus the cleanliness of one of our rooms, we had an old desert left by a previous guest along with a very dirty fridge in one of our rooms and the management made no effort to rectify until the day of our departure.
- Mukesh Kumar (8/5): - Excellent stay. However, food prices are a bit high. Overall good experience
- Dhiren (10/5): - Ideal break for a couple or family of 4 or a small group of friends. Great food, great service, great rooms. It is a wellness centre, very peaceful, right on the backwaters of Kerala. Very good value for money. Can improve in choice of TV programmes as most are in local language.
- Shoaib (6/5): It has a huge potential. It’s nice but didn’t live up to the amount charged. - Beautiful property, almost like a dream like. The animals such as the ducks and birds roaming around were a joy, the butterflies were so wonderful and the fish pond was nice. The spa wasn’t impressive, the gym was so poorly laid out and nothing 5star about it. No equipments.
- Tim (7/5): Needs improvement - Nice room lovely view over the lake, good size pool, pretty garden areas lots of space It was not great housekeeping ,we even ran out of toilet paper
The pool area was not kept clean, nor the pool
Not been maintained
No clear list of activity available
The food below average compared to other hotels we been in
Not very good value for money
- Ece (8/5): Very good -
- Nicholas (1/5): Appalling. - Location Everything else . Untrained staff. Absent manager. Incorrect photographs. Rooms not as described. We checked out as did a party of 12 and others because it was so bad. It damaged our trip of a lifetime around the world. Do not trust the booking.com description, it is pure fiction.
- Snehanshu (5/5): Passable - - the location and the view of the vembanad lake is great.
- we especially enjoyed spending our evenings (around sunset) on their grounds, sipping on tea, flying kites and playing with our daughter on the hammock. the sunset view is great
- the food (other than the breakfast) is delicious
- the rooms are really spacious To begin with - if you are expecting a 5 star experience (as the property claims), in its current state, you wouldn't receive it. Probably a 3-3.5 star experience at the price of 5 star.
1. the upkeep and maintenance of rooms, furniture, common areas in the property is below par. the property needs to improve their game on what is provided inside the room - the coffee, tea, kettle, telephone system provided just doesnt cut it in terms of a 5 star. we had a large outdoor shower (to be honest i don't see the need or value of this) but we didnt even use it once as the upkeep of this area was poor.
2. the food in the restaurants takes more than an hour to arrive. It is highly frustrating when a plate of appam takes 25-30 mins to arrive. while the food is tasty (kudos to the chef), it gets completely undone by time it takes to come.
3. i had issues with the property even before i reached there. Their payment/reservation system is completely dysfunctional. The team needs to work more clearly with sites such as Booking on how and when the payment will be made. Because of a payment glitch in their system, my booking got released 10 days before my travel and I had to chase their back office a lot to ensure there are no issues when I arrive. It was a highly stressful few days before I travelled when I was being given options other than I had booked. Please, have clarity and accountability on your booking and reservations. After all that was sorted, the reservations manager confirmed that my original rooms (one pool villa with lake view and one pool villa with garden view) are reserved. But when i reached the property, the front desk said that they are told that it is two pool villas with garden view. The they took another 3 hours to have our lake view villa ready. Phew!
4. Their staff and personnel need to be better resourced and trained. In their present state, the staff isnt ready to handle even normal situations let alone those difficult ones with customers.
- Nikhil (4/5): Most disappointing stay!!!! - Not much unfortunately.
Few of the staff were good, tried their best to keep things going but there is only so much they can do.
The spa and their staff are good. Everything about this place was disappointing. I don't even know where to start. For the price you pay it's not worth it.
- It's a nice property that has not been maintained over the years.
- They don't have enough staff, the staff that are there are poorly trained or not trained at all.
- TERRIBLE service. No one answers the reception or house keeping or inroom dining phone lines. When they do, the orders either don't turn up or turns up an hour late.
- Our bed sheet had stains and hair on them at check-in!!!
- The bathroom was not well cleaned and was not stocked up properly, they were no bath towels, no bath mats, no hand towels, no shower caps.
- Taps in all bathrooms in the rooms and in the spa were leaking from the side.
- Outdoor fan in the most expensive room in the property wasn't working. No one cared or bothered to check it after we reported.
- At the poolside, asked for pool towels, no response after asking multiple times.
- Glasses and plates from previous day left at poolside, no one cleans it up. Poolside in the morning looked like a College Frat house.
- The pool hasn't been maintained, looked terrible.
- The private pool in the villa and some rooms were filthy. Couldn't use it. Why do we even bother paying for it!
- Asked for glasses at night, got told they were out of stock of glasses!!!
- The food is pretty bad, we stayed 3 nights and all 3 nights had dinner from other resorts. The breakfast spread looked a little sad and tasted average. We would have checked out earlier but being a group of 10 we couldn't find anything else last minute.
- The gym is tiny, no treadmill. Has 2 barbells, but no weights to stack on it. Don't see the point of having the barbells.
Overall felt like a dilapidated property that no one looks after.
For the premium this place charges it's definitely not worth it. Some 3 star hotels have better facilities and services.
- Pradeep (1/5): Bad -
- Kunj (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing views of the backwaters of Kerala!
- Gopalarathnam (7/5): My 3 day stay at Niraamaya - The room was spacious. The front desk staff were very nice and friendly. The gym is good, but it isn't equipped with water or towels, I had to request them. The restaurant is a big minus. Every order took at least 40 minutes. And one of the days I had ordered rice and Alleppey vegetable curry and it took 1.5 hours. The waiters said the kitchen is busy, but of course, if it's not what's the point.
The other issue was the house keeping wasn't proactive, I had to specifically tell them to replace the towels. They didn't check every day during our stay.
- Madhava (6/5): The property is not a five-star experience despite being priced as if it were. - The property is on the lake shore and offers a spectacular lake view. The rooms are spacious and surrounded by beautiful trees, shrubs, flowers, butterflies, and birds. The staff is pleasant and polite. The Ayurvedic massage is superb. The cultural program every evening is good. The property is advertised as a five-star facility; however, the service does not even meet four-star standards. The facility is understaffed, and the staff lacks proper training, resulting in "half-baked" customer service.
Two months before my arrival date, I received an email requesting payment, even though my reservation specified that payment would be made at the property. My credit card was charged for the entire stay two days before my arrival. I was charged again when I checked in but received a refund a day later. The receptionist failed to inform us about the amenities adequately.
The rooms are large, but much of the space is useless to the customer.
When we reported issues in the room, multiple reminders were often needed before action was taken. Some problems (such as the lift not working) were never fixed, and no explanation was provided.
The food in the restaurant is acceptable, but the service is inefficient. On two occasions, our orders were incorrectly filled. One morning, receiving our coffee order took over an hour, even after we had reminded the staff. Additionally, despite pre-ordering our dinner items, the meal was served in bits and pieces.
- Rohit (5/5): Overall, if you are asking for such a high amount please provide the service accordingly. - Good location, closer to the city, staff was great and helpful No Wi-Fi availability, AC wasn’t working, food was okayish and TV wasn’t working. The additional packages seemed to be little expensive. Bike rentals didn’t have enough bikes.
- Mary (3/5): Disappointing Experience - Food was ok.
Staff was nice. The room had multiple issues. None were resolved.
False claims of resort activities. THERE WAS NOTHING.
Also, none of the events advertised in promotional materials existed.
Pool was a horrible green color. We opted not to swim.
Resort was almost empty of guests and yet we had to wait over 2 hours to get into room.
Everything was rundown.
Spa condition was terrible.
We were all extremely disappointed in this property and suggest that Bookings.com does not include it as an option.
- Michelle (8/5): Property is in a beautiful location but needs maintenance - This property has a lot of potential but unfortunately has not been maintained and therefore needs a refurbishment.
Bedroom was large with balcony and the bed comfortable.
Restaurant food was very good and the staff very friendly. Pool area was nice and the grounds beautiful. The property is in an idyllic location.
Staff at reception were friendly but totally inexperienced- they really need to be trained better. Management of the premises was very poor - no one seemed to be in control of services and customer care.
Very pricey given the lack of trained staff and overall poor maintenance of the place. Lack of management- felt like no one was in charge of staff and the staff were inexperienced. They did try their best but need to be trained better.
- Verified traveler (8/5): 3 night stay - We enjoyed our stay although we had been concerned after reading a couple of recent poor reviews. We felt that these were unjustified. The property was remote and relaxing. Sometimes instructions needed to be repeated. Lunch and dinner were very nice although alcohol is not served. The rooms were very big and the staff were very polite. There are a selection of massages in the spa.
- Alessandro (10/5): An oasis not to be missed - Enchanting place, immersed in a spectacular nature. The atmosphere is muffled, relaxing and welcoming. The structure is very beautiful, with some small details that could still be improved. Our suite (AAMBAL) very beautiful, with a small pool, lake view, immersed in absolute peace. All the staff deserves a special mention, for the attention, courtesy and professionalism. For some a special mention: all the reception staff, attentive to our needs and guardian of our forgetfulness! Athul, responsible for the SPA services, with the two professionals, Shilba and Binu who for days took care of our needs. At the restaurant, where all the waiters deserve applause for efficiency and commitment but a special appreciation goes to the kitchen brigade and its Executive Chef Arun Surendran. We are two frequent travellers, with considerable experience of India and its special cuisine even if very spicy for Western tastes. For four days we had the privilege of tasting traditional Indian and Kerala dishes (Allapey vegetable curry, Kadai Murg, Paneer do pyaza, Vendakka pepper fry, Spiced papad, Malabari Paratha), excellently prepared, with a formidable balance and taste, even for Italian palates, which is no small thing! Really compliments.
- Sabu (8/5): - The waterfront view was exceptional from the balcony. The staff were helpful and eager to please all round.
However, the room house keeping was less than optimal. On one day the room cleaning was missed entirely even when the “Please clean the room” sign was on display all day outside the room.
That said, we still plan to return to Niraamaya Resort Kumarakom in the future.
- Bradley (10/5): Such a relaxing experience at the hotel with excellent service and a great pool! -
- Rahul (2/5): - This was one of the worst resorts that I have every stayed at… People cant speak English in the resort… extremely bad management .. Very bad reception and welcome on the first day.. i left the resort in one day … i left the property in one day.. I expect a refund for the remaining 4 nights .. THIS IS NOT A 5 STAR PROPERTY.. please get your facts straight .. more than half the property was empty.. whats on their website is misleading.. I am extremely unhappy and disappointed with Expedia for having suggested this place as a 5 star property..
- Tom (9/5): Superb -
- Karishma (2/5): - Extremely poorly managed hotel. Staff are the most unhelpful bunch (during my stay in Kerala, I stayed in 4 different locations and hotels and this was the only one I regret). There are flies everywhere of the backwaters but the hotel do not manage that well. Food option during breakfast were limited and of poor quality. This is more like a 3 star hotel
- León (9/5): Superb -
- Grace (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cheriyan (7/5): Good -
- Deepa (1/5): Waste of money. I would never recommend this to anyone. - The staff sincerely tried to make my experience better, but too many issues at a fundamental level. Place is not maintained. Bathrooms are big, but not clean. I have no clue how, but there was water inside my room in the foyer area in the morning. I almost slipped and fell. It being Kerala, there is no coconut water on the menu. The quality of food is terrible. Karimeen pollichathu, a local dish was horrible. The prawn curry had too much methi seeds that made it bitter. Chocolate cake we ordered was hard. You are better off eating outside if you are staying here. Breakfast is a-la-carte menu that is very limited and hardly any Kerala options. Menu card was dirty and tattered and not expected in a 5 Star property. The table napkins and place mats are of poor quality not becoming of a 5 star property. No room service after 10:00pm. We wanted to book a house boat for a few hours. They offered a package through a vendor for Rs.18000/- for 4 hours for 2 of us. We found a vendor online for Rs.8500/- got 6 hours for the 2 of us.
- paul (10/5): - Beautiful relaxing hotel in back waters of Kerela. With great spa. Great staff too
And fantastic sunsets. Would recommend for relaxing time.
- Regi (2/5): Very poor -
- Vipin (8/5): Very good -
- Payal (8/5): wonderful stay -
- Ajith (8/5): Very good -
- Tom (7/5): Good -
- Vidhya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anoop (9/5): Superb - The location and the rooms. We stayed jn the pool villa In room dining was very limited at night. The kitchen staff should be well trained
- Anand (3/5): Poor - I paid the amount for the booking directly and got the confirmation. Later they booked the amount again from my credit card. Now for 2 months I am chasing the hotel and booking.com to get incorrectly taken money back. For me this is borderline fraud that is happening here without any responsibility.
Also this has shown me (as a Genius Level 3 user of booking.com) the lack of framework booking.com offers to support their customers when such a situation occurs. I am waiting for 20-25 minutes in multiple calls, but nothing gets done.
- Sunil (9/5): Superb -
- Meera (10/5): Amazing hotel and staff in the most beautiful setting - The staff and facilities at the hotel were amazing, it really was a taste of paradise. Unfortunately, I was ill during most of my stay as I'd picked up a stomach infection on my travels just before I flew in the Kerala. So I was unable to eat or do very much for the first 5 days of my stay. However the staff could not have been better, Lekha, Soniya and Prasoona would check in with me a number of times during the day, making sure that I was ok and well looked after. They ensured that I was taken to hospital when I needed treatment, and Soniya stayed with me to ensure I was ok. When I was feeling a little better, Lekha took me out to enjoy the facilities, including the garden and incredible views over the waters, and to see the talented local dancers who performed in the evening. When I was eventually able to eat a little, Jamon the cook was fantastic and soon got me eating again, catering to what I was able to eat. All of the waiting staff at the restaurant were brilliant too, including Cautram and Gopakumar who also went the extra mile to make my stay special.
I think I was probably the only solo traveller there, but I plan on coming again and hopefully in better health, to fully enjoy this beautiful hotel. Nothing
- Vinoy (10/5): nice - rooms are good nil

- K (10/5): Exceptional - Our whole stay was good. One day, almost all of us fall sick. we requested for congee without any demand, and they provided it even not in the menu. Yoga instructor was well trained, and every step able to follow. The everonment and other fecalites also good.
- Emmanuel (7/5): Good - The garden is absolutely amazing and the location nearby the lake is great. Only 1 restaurant and swimming pool was dirty…
The Spa is great but they should propose an infusion / drink after the treatments and they should sell some Ayurvedic products
- Cheryl (10/5): Relaxing break - A beautiful location with very friendly staff, excellent food and very comfortable rooms. We only stayed 2 nights but would have loved to stay longer. We particularly enjoyed the swimming pool, and the yoga at sunset was amazing. We also enjoyed watching the fish in the pond and seeing frogs in the evening.
- Mathew (9/5): Exceptional value for money - Well spread out, beautifully maintained, spacious rooms Slow internet, food on the blander side

- Jeena (9/5): Superb -
- Sophie (8/5): Very good - Quiet
Good location
Big comfortable room and bed
Staff very friendly and helpful
Spa was amazing Bits looked a bit tired and in need of upkeep
Food was expensive and less good then neighbouring hotel which also served alcohol
- Giovanna (10/5): Fantastic location and very relaxing! - The Superior Villa with Lake View is fabulous
We were celebrating 50th B-day of my husband and they organized a cake, that was delivered in the room for breakfast
In the evening we enjoyed the activity - typical dance and music
The Spa is stunning +++
The restaurant fabulous! The Indian food ++very good and a great service team
We requested to help us to organize the backwater tour in the area of the hotel and it was amazing. Don't miss it! (much better than the one's in Alleppey)
Location, you can enjoy the gardens, swimming pool, lake view or go out of the hotel for a walk Alcohol not available a the hotel - we missed wine to celebrate the B-day.
Anyway not a big issue, we replaced with delicious juices and lassi
(It is something you will face in most of the hotels in Kerala)
- Iancu (9/5): Superb -
- Antonella (10/5): Exceptional - What a beautiful property, the food was great, the location is perfect for visiting the backwaters, and the facilities are impeccable. We were super happy with our stay, strongly recommend it!
- Elizabeth (9/5): Superb -
- Laura (10/5): It was the most wonderful stay we could ask for! - The hotel is absoulutly beautiful. We had a pool villa with a privat pool, outside shower and view direct on the backwaters. The Spa is stunning. All the staff is helpfull and very kin. The restaurant has an amazing chef and a great service team. Every evening there is a cultural program. Highly recommended! Absolutely nothing.
- MINESH (10/5): - This resort is an excellent place. The staff is very nice and polite. I would recommend this place to all my friends
- Peter (9/5): A place worthwhile to visit. You will not regret this - The location was superb with an overall sense of serenity & beauty; staff being always helpful. Special thanks for the restaurant staff. Nothing in particular
- Saroja (10/5): Exceptional -
- Harsh (8/5): Good spot for a laidback vacation in the backwaters. - Great location. Good food. Friendly staff. Facilities are good including the pool and the spa. Some king rooms are on the first floor and there lack accessibility options as the only way to get up is a flight of stairs. This thing is also not mentioned in the room description when booking.
- Jerrin (5/5): Passable -
- Venkat (8/5): Lovely stay with small tweaks - Very friendly staff.. lovely location.. and good food The cot in the room needs to be changed, the filtration in the pool room needs to be looked into
- Mithin (5/5): Passable -
- Nikhil (7/5): Good - Location and the property are good.
Front desk service was good
Large rooms and bathrooms
Pool was great Restaurant service was average for a place you are paying premium rates.
Breakfast and dinner was underwhelming. You would expect more in terms of quality of food, variety and service at a place like this.
Overall it felt like there was lack of supervision/quality control
- Jessica (10/5): Very pleasant stay directly in the backwaters - Very friendly & warm staff
Good Spa
Clean & Beautiful rooms
Amazing food
Very comfortable bed
Perfect Location Surrounded by other properties, so you Are depending on them (in our case, there was a Wedding ongoing for Several days which was really loud)
- Diablo (5/5): Passable - Location and the room was brilliant. Food was below par. The management should understand and cater to the Indian palate as well rather than just concentrating more on foreign cuisines.
- Shereen (8/5): Beautiful property - The property was beautiful and well maintained.. Perfect for a morning or an evening stroll. The staff was also considerate and went above and beyond to help us with any special requests Tiny details matter when it comes to expectation for a 5 star ⭐. The floor of the swimming pool is not the usual shiny blue tiles, it's rough tiles. So my son and I both scratched our feet at multiple places. Also there are no lights in the swimming pool which makes it really hard to swim at night.
The food was okay.. Not really 5 star quality.. It was just ordinary.. The breakfast spread also was not impressive and did not have the variety you would expect to see in 5 ⭐. For example there were only two types of cakes, and both were mediocre.
Don't get me wrong the staff were really friendly but the attire especially for the men staff was so 😑. Some of them were shabby, old and worn out. Def not dress to impress!!! Needs an update.
- Meera (8/5): Beautiful property for a quiet getaway. - The staff were very attentive and the food was exceptionally good. The curtains in the room are outdated and need to be changed.
