- Pedro (10/5): -
- Gautier (10/5): Lovely stay in Kyoto ! - It is a lovely place to stay in if you want to go to Kyoto ! The staff is very nice, talkative and helpful. The traditional breakfast is totally worth it. Overall, a great experience !
- Janet (10/5): -
- Elena (8/5): -
- Hana (9/5): - Very Japanese accomodation, friendly staff, little far from the Kyoto centre, but the surrounding area was lovely and perfect onsen nearby.
We would definitely stay again
- Kate (10/5): Our favourite stay of our Japan trip, travelling with our two kids. The home was everything I wanted to experience in re - Everything Nothing
- Lorna (10/5): A wonderful experience in a traditional Japanese home. - It was a real experience staying at this 120 year old traditional, wooden home complete tatami mats on the floors and different slippers for every activity. The staff was so friendly and helpful. We felt just like family. They even hosted a birthday celebration for me. The breakfast was delicious and so traditional. The little garden is a peaceful place to sit after a busy day of sightseeing. We enjoyed the gathering in the common area with the other guests. The futon beds were cozy. We enjoyed a day of cycling with the bikes that they rent. We enjoyed everything but some people may have trouble sleeping on the floor or using a shared bathroom.
- Nathan (10/5): An intimate Japanese experience. - The experience was authentic and intimidate. I will remember the experience for a long time. The beds were comfortable, the room and house was beautiful and the staff were kind, knowledgeable and thoughtful. Taro-san is one-in-a-million. He was really helpful, patient and funny. An invaluable asset to the guesthouse. For those who don't want to share bathroom and toilet facilities, and for whom noise disturbance is problematic, maybe this isn't for you. But I managed both inconveniences and enjoyed having to adapt and live amongst others.
- Anna Marie Grace (10/5): - I was late for the checkin time but to my surprise the staff was still waiting inside. Despite being an old building, it was neat and felt very authentic. Great Kyoto experience! Sadly it was a bit far from the train station so be prepared to find your way in the bus routes and walking.
- Melissa (10/5): Great cultural experience - Our family had a lovely stay and enjoyed spending time with the host Taro who was very welcoming and helpful. We had the traditional breakfast and my kids aged 7 and 9 loved the experience.
- ANNA (8/5): - Bellissima esperienza . Ottima colazione giapponese Gestori accoglienti Bagno esterno e condiviso
- izzie (10/5): -
- Agathe (9/5): Super, maison magnifique !!!
- Helen Hei Man (8/5): Great value for money - The room was comfortable, especially the futon bed. There are several toilets available to use so I never had to wait. I did not expect them to have a bathroom but they did and the water pressure and temperature was great. The front desk staff there was SUPER helpful, helping me with luggage, helping me acquire tickets to a local festival, and overall just very professional and helpful. The breakfast was Japanese style (which is my preference anyway) and was a solid, hearty breakfast. The main issue is that as a single woman on a solo trip, there was one other staff there who always hung out in the lounge and was a little enthusiastic when I may not have wanted to be so social.
- Vanessa (10/5): Perfection !!! - The house is 120 years old. The Japanese feel to it was exceptional. The staff was so welcoming and full of local tricks. Nothing. It was perfect!
- Alexander (10/5): Awesome stay and unmatched hospitality - It was a really awesome stay in a very traditional house. We felt very welcome and special thanks goes to Tarō who gave us insider tips and recommendations about Kyoto and when we left he even got up with us (even though we left really early) just to say goodbye to us.
So of course you get a rather basic stay with shared bathrooms and rather cold rooms but the hospitality and experience makes it all worth. The Japanese breakfast is also really great value for the cost and we really recommend booking it. It is also really close to Funaoka Onsen which is an experience for itself.
- Thomas (10/5): - It was so quiet and calm. Tora made us feel at home. We booked the accommodations because it was unique. It was so fun to stay in an old style Japanese house. The sliding doors and culture were just what we were looking for! We will stay here again!
- Wako (10/5): -
There are no barriers to communication.
- Rolando (10/5): Best Place to Stay In Kyoto (not an exaggeration) - This was my favorite place to stay on our visit to Japan. The staff was excellent. The house was incredible. The traditional home was one of the most beautiful things I saw on my trip. If I ever go back, I will make sure to stay here again.
- Yuebei (10/5): -
- rion (10/5): -
- Thomas (10/5): - Very friendly and helpful staff, nice traditional inn for a great price.
- Priscille (10/5): -
- Alan (9/5): Unique experience - Friendly staff, beautiful house and amazing tatami rooms Bathroom is outside and far from the rooms, but it's expected for the traditional Japanese house experience. It's still very comfortable and they provide warm slippers for when you need to go.
- Ambre (10/5): -
- Evelyn Sabrina (10/5): - Bellissima esperienza!
- Mathieu (9/5): -
- Loren (10/5): I loved this place, and the staff - A beautiful and very traditional 120-year-old ryokan within easy walking distance of several bus lines. The owner is a backpacker who loved meeting other travelers when he was on the road, so he became an innkeeper. He loves meeting his guests, and can give excellent advice on travel throughout Japan. This is a very good choice especially if you like meeting new people. It's a 120-year old house, so it might be a liitle hot, or a little cold, but that's what old houses are like.
Note that the bicycles available for rent are really for children, so you may want to rent fron someone else in the neighbourhood.
- Davide (10/5): -
- Dorothee (9/5): -

- Elodie (10/5): A beautiful experience in Kyoto - Very beautiful and charming place.
The hosts are wonderful, speak good english, and took really good care of us. The breakfast is also delicious. It was not a problem for us but you have to go outdoor, pass by the inside garden, to go to the bathroom. The garden is so pretty by the way.
- Marek (10/5): -
- florencia (8/5): - La amabilidad y hospitalidad.
- Andrew (8/5): -
- Tim Evans UK (9/5): - Helpful and friendly staff.
Interesting to stay in a traditional ryokan.
Good bus connections even though away from the centre.
- Tasha (8/5): Loved it! Friendly and helpful staff! Nice Japanese style room and bed. - Great location- peaceful and the breakfast was outstanding! Paper thin walls.
- Barry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Heather (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anne (10/5): Exceptional - Very beautiful guesthouse, very comfortable room and common spaces. We loved the neighborhood, its restaurants and Onsen, and the fact that it is a bit away from the busy touristic part of the city, but still very well connected with several bus stops
- Afiong (10/5): A peaceful escape and immersive experience in the traditional city of Kyoto. - In 2017 I stayed in the sister guesthouse, Koiya and loved it. Returning to Kyoto in 2025, I knew I wanted a similar experience. The staff are extremely sweet people and the room was very clean. Love the Japanese garden which is nice to sit and stare into while having tea. As warned in the description, walls are very thin so sometimes noise can be an issue. However, there are quiet hours and while I was there, people respected that.
- Sichen (7/5): Good - Authentic traditional style. The men’s toilet is broken and stinky.
- Pichinart (7/5): Wonderful stay and great value for money, though there were a few minor downsides. - The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, always ready with a smile. The breakfast was also a highlight, offering a delicious truly exceeded expectations. The guesthouse is located in a quiet area. While the guesthouse had a cozy feel, there were a couple of downsides to my stay. One major issue was that there was only one shared bathroom, which became inconvenience—especially when another guest occupied it for over an hour, leaving me unable to use it when I needed to. Additionally, the walls were quite thin, so I could hear people walking and talking in the hallway, which made it hard to relax.
- Clementine (8/5): A nice experience - Authentic Japanese house, walkable distance to the Golden Pavillon, very good breakfast. It would be great to have electric bikes available for rental
- Mariana (9/5): Superb -
- Cameron (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marcus (10/5): An absolute gem - A very traditional but very welcoming Ryokan. A very peaceful place, friendly and in a secluded part of the city. Great advice for off the beaten track exploration in the area..
- Rodriguez (10/5): Amazing guest house - The house is astonishing, really beautiful and the room of 3 people that we got was really big.
The staff was really nice and had a lot of services like bike rental or kimono rental. In the shower was a little cold
- Hibiki (10/5): Highly recommended! - We loved staying there. The atmosphere of its place was amazing (very traditional & historical), delicious Japanese traditional breakfast, and the twin economy room was spacious. All the staff were welcoming and helpful. It's a bit of a trip from Kyoto station if you take a bus, but easy to get to if you take the train & taxi. It's a great location and walkable to Golden Temple and nearby temples. Lots of good restaurants & cafes around as well as convenience stores, supermarket & chemists. I would definitely love to stay there again and will highly recommend it to others.
- Emma (8/5): Very good -
- Kiều (10/5): This made our stay so much more enjoyable. - Lovely owner - „a true Japanese experience“. It was such a pleasure to live in those delicate houses. I have a huge passion for Japanese architecture so it was lovely to experience living in a ryokan.
- Trevyn (10/5): Exceptional -
