Guest Reviews
- Aleksander (8/5): -
- Setlur (8/5): Nice place that can be better with some sprucing up of interiors, especially lighting - - Large and spacious room and bathroom
- Very nice couple managing property - it feels like staying at a non-intrusive relative's home
- Cute cat called Pinta in the property
- Lots of birds visit the trees in the property
- Basic but nice breakfast
- Quiet but couple of restaurants and a small grocery store are within walking distance - The room needs better lighting. A high ceiling with one light is not enough. Recommend a floor lamp near the beds and a table lamp on the desk
- Shower head was not good, needs replacement
- Soap and shampoo are not great
- Sidewalks in La Fortuna sometimes don't exist. Walking might feel/be unsafe.
- Runqi (10/5): Highly recommended! - Great stay and excellent value!
The location is convenient and the rooms are very clean. The hosts are incredibly kind, helpful, and welcoming. We also enjoyed a hearty breakfast and plenty of hot water in the shower. AC is also strong.
Excellent value, highly recommended! Nothing.
- Trahan (2/5): - Location, I was familiar with the area Filthy, dusty. Found dirty underwear and used towel. Under the bed had bugs and cobwebs. We would have left but nothing was available. Mattresses were absolutely terrible, same with the pillows and blankets. I could have stayed on a park bench and been more comfortable.
- Edwige (10/5): -
- JAIRO (10/5): Cabaña acogedora rodeada de naturaleza y muy cerca de la ciudad - El alojamiento está muy cerca del centro de La Fortuna, pero mantiene una naturaleza maravillosa alrededor de las cabañas. No tengo ninguna queja.
- Pia (10/5): - Hermoso lugar, excelente ubicación La tele no funcionaba, estaba tirada en la mesa.
- Dimitri (5/5): -
- Tatiana (9/5): -
- David (10/5): We felt so welcomed that we didn’t want to leave! - The location was great — close to everything but well off the busy street. We had our own private cabin, with a porch looking out on the mountains. The host was wonderful — he served us a wonderful breakfast on our porch every morning, with fresh fruit, fresh squeezed orange or pineapple juice, coffee, and ham and eggs or rice and beans. Absolutely no complaints
- Rolando (7/5): - S/C S/C
- Erick (5/5): Puede mejorar - La zona donde se ubica Mala señal de Wifi, los tvs no se podian conectar por la mala señal, no habia agua caliente, se nota la falta de mantenimiento en algunas zonas.
- Dave (10/5): Wonderful waking up to all the birds and wildlife! - The property owners were lovely and accommodating! Nothing. It was wonderful
- Marco (8/5): Very good - The location, very friendly staff, comfortable The wifi didn’t work
- Hind (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nelson (9/5): A nice place to relax with restaurants and natural beauty within walking distance - There were lots of birds in the vegetation surrounding the lodge
- Oliwia (10/5): Exceptional - The hosts are very nice and helpful. The houses are not in the center of Fortuna but very close and you are far away from the noise but close enough to everything. Great restaurants are walking distance. Our group felt safe.
" I was satisfied with everything. It is not luxurious but clean, spacious and in a quiet location.
- Gv (7/5): Good spot to visit the surroundings - The service from the owner and his brother. Great people, out to help! It is a bit out of maintanance. TV holder, no TV, 2 outside lights, one works, outside wall cabine is missing well...wall.
- Anne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peggy (8/5): Surrounded by nature - Lovely owners, spacious room and a great hot shower. Hummingbirds and Tucans and a sweet cat are just outside the room. The cabin could need a makeover as everything look a bit old. The balustrade outside is too loose and there is nowhere to hang your cloths. Great location to start many adventures! Breakfast at the nearby Restaurant (Ginger) was nice and the boys there helped a lot with arranging trips
- Katk!!! (5/5): Could do upgrades to make clients feel comfortable. - Lovely owner. Beautiful gardens. Sweet cat. The room smelled so badly of mold we left after 2 nights. Dim lighting made me very uncomfortable. Holes in bedding. Patio furniture bench was agonizing to sit on.
- Sherrie (9/5): Adorable rustic cabin, great vegetation all around & well priced. A few minutes walk to “El Salto” & Fortuna dow - The jungle feel, the beautiful colors of the plants, the quietness, sounds of the different birds throughout the day. Loved the high wood ceiling & it was very clean every day. Kind staff, the entire family was super nice to us! The interior of the bungalow could use some updates but nothing major. There’s a safety box inside but it wasn’t working & neither was the shower soap pump.
- Rachel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jack (8/5): Spacious cabin with private patio on the Fortuna waterfall road. - Room was spacious and patio provided good privacy. Room was very well cleaned. There was a reasonable minimart and very nice cafe near by. Breakfast was average and not worth the additional charge.
- David (8/5): Large rooms. great location . Could get better mattresses, got a discount - Super friendly . Lots of mosquitos and hard to keep them out once they got in
- Rosemary (9/5): Authentic, comfortable, would stay again - Spacious, clean and comfortable. Good breakfast optional at extra charge. Nice gardens with birds. Lovely helpful couple who clearly wanted to please. We felt this was a really authentic experience with a Costa Rican family living within the grounds. It’s a little way from the centre, which we liked - there is a nice restaurant, a bar and small supermarket very close by and we used Ubers to reach the reserves and thermal spa. Shuttles (Monteverde, San Jose), pick up and drop off there no problem.
- Darin (10/5): Serious beauty - Seclusion. Privacy. Stunningly beautiful grounds. These are all things I needed. And Let me tell you about the owners English speaking son; add mental health therapist in a peer support level. My wife decided to leave me alone at the airport just after we landed because we got in a huge, and final fight. She bought a ticket and just flew back home almost right away. I decided to go to the destinations we already booked because I don't know what else to do. The fight delayed me enough to force me drive at night-a harrowing experience when you forgot your eye glasses at home and every source of light looks like a five point star in the dark and your GPS in your rental car stops working or delayed enough to guide your turns too late. I didn't known where I was going because she booked the cabin. At one point, I was lead down a road that with no turn around and reeds quickly enveloped around my rental car as in Steven King's Children of the Corn. Worse, the vehicle began sinking in mud. Panicked, I gunned it backwards, flying past the reeds, and landing on the main road. Thanks Siri, you're never leading me around again!
I don't speak a lick of Spanish and didn't feel the need to study it before we would go because she would be my guide and interpreter. Don't hate her because she left a bipolar, autistic , psychically disabled senior to fend for himself in a foreign nation that doesn't speak my language because I probably had a part in the blowout with her. I had to have. So there is no hiding my tears, and the owners son just jumped at the opportunity to console me. He informed me that he had managed bipolar one along with me. We suddenly were a Suport group of two. Sometimes an ear to listen to me is all I need. Mental health therapy is not one of the services listed on their booking site, but after the pieces of his heart he shared with me that pulled me out of panic and tears, maybe it should be.
- Sutton (10/5): Very clean. There did our laundry for 10 dollars us. - Awesome family and the son speaks English.
Very clean room.
Very good restaurant just down the road in walking distance. We are vegetarian and the rice / vegetables was outstanding ! We ment to go there again but there was a storm.
The family was very helpful with booking events like the hot springs. The only drawback was having to get a cab ride to town. When the son was available, he drove us for 5 dollars US.
We went to the free hot spring river, once a then to volcano lagoon springs which was nice and it included lunch.
For the money, the free spring was better.
We would definitely stay there again.
- Hannally (8/5): Very good -
- Cessilye (8/5): I would definitely stay again. Excellent value and cute spot. - Overall this is a great place to stay. There are five cabins so it is perfect for a family/group gathering as you can book all of the cabins. My family of six booked two cabins side by side. I was welcomed and my overall experience was very positive. I loved sitting on the porch in the morning and bird-watching. It is a peaceful environment. I think a little more attention to the areas that are not obvious. Cobwebs behind headboard area. I also think that it would be great if the tv's were updated to smart t.v.s. They didn't work at all, no cable, no nothing. No breakfast offerings so I think the listing just needs to be updated. This is a family business and the mother cooked breakfast from what I've read in reviews however this was not an option. I get it, things happen but if it's not an option I believe the guest needs to know ahead of time or the listing needs to be updated.
- Julia (9/5): Superb - The location was perfect! We loved being outside of town but within walking distance of restaurants/market. Customer service was prompt and friendly.
- Edward (10/5): Beautiful place, nice helpful staff, perfect location. - Selvita lodge was great. The surroundings are beautiful and the lodge had everything we needed. Hot water, good WiFi, good air conditioning, comfy bed. Staff was super nice and helpful, despite me knowing hardly any Spanish. Would recommend!! We had a great stay and didn’t want to leave.
- Teresa (10/5): LaFortuna’s best kept lodging secret! - EVERYTHING!!!!! This is a wonderful family owned and operated b&b. OMG out of all the places we stayed in Costa Rica hands down this was the very best.
First, Joshua is the real MVP he quickly let me know that he was available for all of our needs. He’s such an awesome concierge! From scheduling activities, transport, trips to the Supermercado, chaperone (he actually zip lined with my 12 year old who wouldn’t have been able to do so w/o an adult being present. Due to medical reasons I wasn’t able to participate).
Our transportation to San José fell through at the last minute. He said, “ No problem. I’ll take you in my personal vehicle”. Wow! What a life saver.
Now for the lodge. Rustic wood throughout . Vaulted A-frame structure. Super clean, (ok a couple of few cob webs, but other wise SUPER clean) good WiFi service, plenty of hot running water in the shower and faucet. Large glossy, white ceramic tile flooring. A few small ants, but that’s to be expected since it’s ground level. The most comfortable bed I slept in during my stay. A/C gets very cold and the large ceiling fan was perfect. We felt very safe. The grounds are beautiful! Dense in greenery, plants and trees etc
Breakfast is served between 7-9 and you choose between Typical/Traditional CR breakfast or American. We generally had eggs, pancakes, ham/sausage, fresh fruits, coffee, juice. The breakfast was so delicious. Mama does the cooking. Papa clears the table. Words can’t express what a lovely couple they are.
I miss them so much!
Short walk to hip market and downtown area. The streets are nicely paved and safe to walk along. Nothing.
I will definitely stay here again.
- Marilyn (7/5): Good -
- Graham (10/5): Twitchers paradise - Excellent quiet location in beautiful bird friendly gardens
- Katie (10/5): Basically we really liked it. wish we stayed a little longer. We - The location was great, about 3/4 of a mile outside and completely different than the city of La Fortuna. It was near a really good restaurant Chante Verde that had vegetarian options. It was also near the swinging rope about 3/4 of a mile away and it was real fun and free to go there. Irene and her family were so kind, outgoing and helpful. It was very safe. We had a refrigerator. We wish they had a safe.
- Heather (7/5): Quiet place to relax after a day of adventuring in Arenal or La fortuna - Nice location away from the hustle and bustle of town. Lots of birds and beautiful gardens surround the cabins and make it feel very private.
- Brayshaw (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tatyana (9/5): Superb - What I have appreciated the most is the very human approach by the lovely couple - Adrian and Irene - who manages the place. Both are very helpful and attentive, and they spared no effort to make my stay comfortable. I thank them wholeheartedly!
The room is spacious, clean, with a mini-fridge (practical) and a little terrace just in front, all bathed in a well-cared for garden. I will definitely be back again if I happen to be in La Fortuna one day! Minor thing: the Lodge is close to a local road, but it is not very busy, so one can easily walk along
- Alek (6/5): A Solidly Average Hotel in La Fortuna - The room was spacious and the location of the hotel is in a nicer quieter part of La Fortuna, quite near the waterfall. The hotel owners are very kind and friendly. The breakfast available onsite is quite good. The hotel grounds are a lush jungle garden. Rooms were very simple, without much character. Two large beds, but not a place indoors to sit and relax. Not a lot of decoration or charm to the room. But, a pretty good value for a nice and clean place in La Fortuna.
- Anne (7/5): Good - The hosts were lovely, very helpful and there are 2 excellent restaurants just down the road. Our cabin needed more off the ground shelving for bags etc. As beautiful as the flora around the cabins is, a bit of a trim would let the sun in and allow the cabins to feel less damp.
- Mathieu (8/5): Top - Expensive Beter pillow please
- Emma (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast & location were amazing and hosts were super nice
- Piotr (8/5): Very good - I did not like the gap between the front doors and floor. Some creature can get inside.
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nathan (9/5): Best place I stayed in Costa Rica. - The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. They answered all our questions and made reservations for several excursions we wanted to do. The room was also excellent and spacious. I’d recommend Selvita Lodge to anyone visiting the area.
- Stefan (8/5): Very good - Clean rooms, good shower Way too expensive for what it offers. I could hear mice in the roof and walls all night long.
- Pablo (10/5): Great accomodation with beautiful garden! - Everything! The garden was beautiful, and full of birds!! It really feels like a “little jungle” :-) And the family that runs it is super nice and helpful Not applicable - everything was great!
- Susanna (10/5): Exceptional - Great location and the place by itself! The owners always there to answer you any questions.
- Greg (8/5): We would return. - Good cook. Tasty food. Plenty of it Nada
- Diane (10/5): Exceptional - Bungalows were very clean. Great veiws of the Volcano and surrounding landscapes. Every morning I sat outside and read my book and Hummingbirds and other species of birds would fly all round in the nearby trees. Costa Rican breakfast every morning. Juices made natural every morning. Plus very nice hosts.. They were very sweet. Would stay here again.
- Laura (10/5): peaceful garden setting central to many attractions & restaurants. - Loved the lush tropical garden which surrounds des cabanas. Senora said colibris (hummingbirds) come every day, and we heard lots of birdsong. La familia is very friendly, and we got 2 great tips for Arenal 1968 volcano hike and Los Lagos thermal springs. Also room service breakfast $7 was great. All good. 10 min drive to the waterfall. Shower was nice & hot.
- Emily (10/5): Comfortable, relaxing, delicious food! - Everything during our stay was fantastic! Our hosts were so incredibly kind and welcoming. We loved starting every morning with breakfast on the porch and ending it watching birds from our patio. The rooms were clean and comfortable. I highly recommend staying there if you’re in the area! No suggestions—everything was excellent!
- Luiza (7/5): Good -
- Karin (10/5): Exceptional - We really like the beautiful nature and kind family running the lodge. Breakfast and coffee was delicious
- Cynthia (8/5): Close to parks and other sight-seeing. - This was a pretty good deal for the price. We enjoyed a private cabin and the close proximity to town, to tours, and to parks. Everything was ok and about what we expected for the price, less than $100 per night, no specific dislikes.
- Laurie (7/5): Very basic accommodation but okay for one night stay. - The location out of the main town was attractive to us. The accommodations were very basic. The TV reception was poor. The towels were worn. It was very noisy during the inevitable La Fortuna rain at night.
- Emma (7/5): Family run lodge with great breakfast - The family are super sweet and helpful. My Spanish is minimal and children who do speak Spanish decided to be mute. Do much head shaking. Really safe and friendly. I have never been before and don't speak great Spanish so felt quite cut off
- Ornella (10/5): beautiful local stay in La Fortuna - we loved how friendly our host were and how accommodating. the place and location were lovely. we loved everything.
- Rosa (9/5): we loved our time at selvita lodge and look forward to returning - sweet private cabins, comfortable beds, wonderful staff, very safe
- Kanyika (4/5): Disappointing -
- Maurice (10/5): Exceptional - Our lodge was spacious and very clean! The staff was friendly, helpful, and welcoming.
- Elizabeth (8/5): We enjoyed our stay. Thank you!! - Family run lodges near town but not too close. The property is beautiful with many birds and plants. The accommodations are basic but you have everything you need. AC works great and the breakfast is good. The family is very nice and welcoming!
- Ruchi (7/5): Good -
- Rachel (8/5): Fantastic hosts, great sized room, delicious breakfast! Bit of a walk into town, however absolutely doable. -
- Claire (7/5): Great location - the tours will pick you up from here, and you can walk to a great restaurant and the river. - Fantastic location.
- Shroomus (9/5): Superb -
