Guest Reviews
- vicky (10/5): We’ll definitely be back. - The property was great. I usually use places as a base & this was fantastic. During the recent heatwave the dog loved the kitchen tiles.
Easy access to travel routes, beaches & shops. Freedom to come and go as you please.
The garden isn’t secure, so accompany and pick up after your dog. Enjoy the grounds together as you would anywhere else. Keep the garden poo free & pleasant for future guests.
Patio area is ideal for sitting in the sun with a cuppa while your dog has breakfast.
- Roslyn (10/5): A comfortable apartment with many amenities including a washing machine and lovely hosts. - Chestnut Lodge Annex is a delightful unit with a separate kitchen with full facilities and lounge room. - Susan (10/5): convenient location, friendly helpful hosts, comfortable & homely accommodation - The location was really convenient for us, just around the corner from our friends and a stones throw from the M4 junction. Definately our place to stay for future visits to Wales absolutely nothing
- Amanda (10/5): Were already planning when we can go back. - It is a little ex-granny annex, so a perfectly self contained flat. It was ideal for a few days break and handy for both coast and countryside, and near enough to Bridgend for access to a small town too. Nothing really! Even the parking was easy, plenty of room right outside the door.
- Gary Rand (10/5): - Chesnut Lodge is a well placed, very well equipped, comfortable, and peaceful hideaway. Continuously improving facilities, Pat & Tim are very friendly, responsive hosts, keen to help in any way possible to make your stay memorable. We will definitely be back in the summer to fully enjoy all this place has to offer and check out the completed gazebo. There's nothing to dislike.
- Bhanu (9/5): Decent house apart from few niggles. - The people were super good and have been very helpful with clear instructions when we arrived at property The smell of the duvets/ bed was unpleasant odor. The cutlery that was provided had fungus to it.
- Mohamed (10/5): -

- armstrong (10/5): Wales annex - Friendly owner and beautiful garden. Easy access to bridgend and the M4. Lovely property and good facilities . Is it fair to say the weather?
- Debra (8/5): -
- Jock81 (10/5): - Welcome friendly and everything you need
- Shaz (9/5): - It was beautiful, quiet and had everything we wanted. The only thing we didn't like was the constant rain.
- Saunders (10/5): Great stay at Chestnut Lodge - Chestnut Lodge is a stunning home with a huge garden and very private.my family of 4 2 adults and 2 kids over 11years had a wonderful stay. We didn't spend much time in the home but what we did was lovely. We ordered take out delivery with ease. There is a board in the kitchen with menus and a reminder of postcode which was brilliant. They had everything we needed to eat and wash up after. We used both the main bed room and the pull out sofa both were comfortable with fresh bedding. The sofa bed was really easy to pull out and put away. There are instructions on how to do this plus other things available in the home. We all didn't get to use the shower or bath however there were plenty of towels. Also a little bottle of shampoo if you forgot it. The shower had lots of functions and water comes out from all different sides took a little working out but very luxurious. We were visited on the Friday night by their black cat ( i can't remember the name completely but something like Mr Button or something) he was so sweet my eldest daughter spent a good couple hours cuddling with him. He was very comfortable in the home and wasn't a problem at all. At night the patio lit up adding a touch of magic to the garden view. I would suggest have the patio doors closed when you have the light on as we did spend the night with some grass hoppers and spiders from the garden!! Plenty of parking we have a large wheelchair accessible van and had no problem parking and being able to get wheelchair out when needed. Although the property is not wheelchair friendly and not advertise to be, if you have some walking ability or can transfer from an outdoor chair to an indoor chair the home is more the sutable for dissabled guests with some walking ability and some balance. I took my time and used my walking stick within the home. Although the home is apacious its also small enough to furniture cruise and super easy to get around with ease. We liked everything really if I had to say something maybe some instructions or a demonstration for how to use shower. Although it took a little time to fiqure out it was a wonderful shower so not a massive thing at all.

- Ruth (8/5): Great little cottage - The cottage was convenient and well stocked. Lovely and private everything you could need for a stay in the area.
The hosts were very helpful and friendly.
The sofa bed was nice and large. The beds were comfortable. There was ample of everything. I didn't realise the heating was left on.
- Grzegorz (10/5): I hope back there again - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I had a fantastic stay! The accommodation was spotless, comfortable, and matched the description perfectly. The host was friendly and helpful, and the location was ideal—quiet yet close to everything. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Thank you for the warm hospitality! Na
- John (10/5): Brilliant couple of nights spent at a wonderful location and lovely property. - Very nice little place which had ample outside space for relaxing. Tondu train station was a 5 minute walk with trains every hour to Cardiff. Nice place to stay for relaxation and calmness yet only 30 minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Cardiff.
Property was clean throughout and had everything we needed, 100% value for money. There was nothing we didn’t like about the property.
- Savage (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect location... perfect hosts.... fabulous little place.. home from home... excellent value for money
- Heather (10/5): Relaxing Annexe in Wales - The annexe was lovely, clean and spacious. It was well kept and had everything I needed especially the kitchen, information was left for me by Pat and Tim for places to eat or order. There's also lot of leaflets on places to go. The garden was my favourite, it is huge and was absolute bliss to sit at the picnic table on a summers evening after a long day exploring. Well behaved dogs are allowed and my one pretty much chilled at the patio door whenever she got the chance. Pat and Tim were amazing, helpful and kind, I really am thankful for such a relaxing and great stay.
- Maria (9/5): Wonderful stay with lovely hosts. - Pat and Tim gave us the keys when we arrived.
They were super friendly and have a good sense of humor. Tim helped us how to travel to Cardiff for a concert. He even printed options to travel by car or train. So sweet of him.
- Gwenllian (7/5): Good -
- Maggie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Miki (10/5): Cosy. Safe. Comfortable. Good location for Bridgend - Perfect for what we needed and would return.

- J (8/5): Very good - Very welcoming hosts.
Full kitchen facilities
Nice outdoor area in good weather Quite close to noisy road
- Rose (9/5): Ideal stay for our son’s bike race at Margam Park. - Self contained, no traffic noise inside, large garden, nice bedroom, kitchen and lounge. We didn’t find the sofa bed very comfortable.
- Dean (10/5): Exceptional - Fabulous facilities, fantastic location in beautiful grounds. Excellent friendly hosts.2nd visit here!
- Ujaala (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely hosts with absolutely everything you could need in the property. A lovely garden which I’m sure we would have enjoyed if it wasn’t raining our whole time there.
Overall would totally recommend. Great location for what we needed with plenty of shops near by Sink in bathroom could do with better taps and pressure.
- Amanda (10/5): Exceptional - It's a really perfect getaway. Fully equipped with everything you need. The hosts are so welcoming, and nothing is too much trouble.
- Karen (9/5): Very comfortable stay with plenty of local amenities nearby - Great space for myself and my two dogs with a lovely garden Bit tricky to spot the entrance lane from the main road but that’s all really. The property itself was great.
- Alison (9/5): Superb - I stay here whenever I visit Wales. Wouldn't stay anywhere else. Excellent value for money and home from home relaxing stay. Meer the cat this time. What a sweetheart ❤️ Nothing
- Lindsey (9/5): Superb -
- Stephen (9/5): Our stay at Chestnut Lodge annex - Great base for exploring the coast.
Nice and private
All the expected equipment in the kitchen
Clean
Tim and Pat were nice hosts
Good wishes with your hosting journey. A bit of updating is needed, especially the bathroom, but each room was clean and tidy.
Mattress was too soft for us, but I'm sure it's fine for other guests .
- Lee (10/5): Great value for money and lovely hosts with great sense of humour - Clean, spacious and comfortable. Great hosts Not applicable
- Janine (9/5): Superb - Felt like home from home. Comfy bed and the lodge had everything we needed
- Robert (8/5): Comfortable, cosy and excellent value for money. - Tim and Pat are very welcoming hosts, with a lovely sense of humour. We were greeted on arrival, showed around & Pat also checked with us in the morning if everything was ok. The annex is a real comfortable cosy home from home & was ideal for us as we were visiting family in the area. We will have no hesitation about staying with them again.
Pat & Tim are new to hosting and are still learning, they are keen to take on board suggestions as to how to improve what they offer. We wish them all the best.
- Arturs (10/5): The hosts are very welcoming and always there to help. - The property is amazing. Have everything what you need.
- Ata (10/5): Exceptional - The host was amazing—polite, welcoming, and made sure we were comfortable. Even though I arrived late with the kids, the first thing she asked was if we had milk and food for them, saying, "You guys must be tired!" That small gesture alone showed how kind and thoughtful they were.
I was there for the weekend because my wife had a driving test in Bridgend, and we’d traveled all the way from Milton Keynes. I asked for a small favor to use the water nozzle to clean the car, and they went above and beyond by providing cleaning products, even though it wasn’t part of the deal or something :D
On top of that, the place itself was cozy and lovely. Such a great experience overall!
- Anamaria (10/5): Very nice hosts - Location, price, condition Everything was perfect
- Becki (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic, friendly hosts who couldn't do enough to make sure we had everything we needed. Great location
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Natalie (10/5): amazing!! - my partner is working in wales so i decided to book chesnut lodge and come down to stay for the weekend. Tim and pat are by far the best most welcoming hosts i have ever met..and i travel alot!! perfect location close to shops and restaurants etc. lovely clean and cosy home from home with everything you need. the garden is amazing we went on a walk right to the back its huge..perfect to sit out with the fire lit in nature. pat and tim went beyond to make our stay comfortable, a few free beers and homemade wine..tim took my partner to cut wood for the fire and he also gave me a lift back to the station when i left. lovely lil getaway and lovely hosts :) will be back for sure!!
- Mccartney (10/5): Exceptional - What a fabulous host. Nothing was too much trouble. I asked for the heating time to be adjusted in the morning, done instantly There is nothing to.i unlike apart from we didn't see the 🐈cat
- Karen (10/5): Comfortable and relaxing after a long day of working - The property was all on ground level which was great for my dad, it was close to where I was working and was comfortable, warm and relaxing with good eating placed within walking distance. Nothing all was very good
- Sandra (8/5): Lovely little annex where you will receive a warm welcome and all you need for your stay! - Pat and Tim were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Annex had everything we needed for our stay and we will definitely book again. It is situated perfectly for where we were visiting and was very good value. Not a criticism as Pat and Tim are aware and mention it in there welcoming info. The water pressure isn't great so couldn't have a bath and shower could benefit from being modernised. Would be nice to have thicker pillows or more to add to what was on the bed but this is personal preference of course. I'm sure if I had asked they would have been provided too as nothing was any trouble.
- Alison (9/5): Superb - Quiet & relaxing. Everything you needed was there. Beautiful garden that I plan to take full advantage of in the summer when I return for longer. Lovely friendly hosts. There was nothing about this property or my stay that I disliked.
- Trevor (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephens (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hardy (9/5): Superb - Everything is totally lovely. Little difficult to find
- Carrie (8/5): Very good -
- Kalvin (10/5): Great place, great location, great owners. - Great location. The owners of the property are really nice and helpful, they will go out of there way to make your stay comfortable.. Very clean and tidy inside and out.. loads of parking space. Nice quiet area. Very close to the motorway, shopping, takeaways, pubs. I would definitely stay here again. If I am being picky, I would say the bed is a little too soft for my liking..
- Debra (10/5): Fantastic hosts, bungalow felt like a home from home - Spacious, well equipped and lovely large garden
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Twana (10/5): Exceptional - Every thing nice Every thing nice
- Wendy (10/5): We very much enjoyed our time here and would love to come back again sometime. - This was perfect for our needs. The annex is compact but with plenty of space and has a lovely, secluded garden. You can hear some noise from the road, but otherwise extremely quiet - no noisy neighbours. Pat and Tim were friendly and attentive hosts, but not obtrusive. The property had easy access and was easier to find than we'd imagined (with no help from Google!). Everything was great - nothing to complain about.
- Glen (10/5): Exceptional - The hosts, Pat and Tim, were so helpful and friendly. They are literally next door should you need any help or information. The Lodge is small and compact, but has everything you need from a base to explore South Wales. There is a bus stop, and a train station close by, and the M4 is a 5 minute drive away. There is ample parking at the front of the lodge, and a lovely garden area to relax in at the rear. Very good value for money.
- Agata (10/5): Exceptional - We loved everything about this place. Lovely, cosy property, amazing garden with patio, fire place. We enjoyed every second there.
- Anita (8/5): Very nice, lovely hosts - Lovely for us and our dogs Nothing
- Thelma (10/5): The most welcomed we have ever been to any property- the hosts were most helpful and gracious. - The most hospitable welcome from Pat & Tim. Every facility that you could want was provided & it was exceptionally clean. It was a little difficult to find - but Tim sent an email detailing this, so it was fine.
- Lauren (9/5): Lovely location, friendly hosts, would definitely return! - Peaceful, spacious, nice outdoor area. Cute cat! Felt a bit rushed to leave and sofa bed was a little old and creaky.
- Michaela (10/5): Lovely hosts, nothing is too much trouble - Very welcoming friendly hosts - they even left a couple of beers in the fridge for us on arrival! Very well equipped accommodation with everything you could want provided
- Christine (9/5): Home from home - The hosts were extremely helpful, making us feel so welcome, as its self catering I was so surprised at all the extras, everything you needed. Happy with everything
- Stewart (10/5): Exceptional - The annex was lovely and comfortable.nice privacy and great hosts. It was comfortable and had everything you would have in your own home . Highly recommended.
- Bryan (6/5): Pleasant - Closeness to train and shopping. The shower had extremely low pressure, and water backed up, cleanliness, very uncomfortable and noisy sofa bed which also made the living room way too small.
- Donna (10/5): Lovely property and fab location - Location and facilities brilliant. Hosts are wonderful. Tondu train station close for getting about easily without having to drive. Very cheap to travel. We were back early most days and sitting watching a box set and Sofa got uncomfortable after a while. It’s a sofa bed I think so stuffing in seat pads has become quite flat through use. Wouldn’t put me off from coming back though. I’m sure it will be replaced in time.
- Jordan (10/5): We will certainly be back. - Tim and Pat were amazing. Very welcoming. They made a point of greeting us, telling us what was on in the area and offered to help us with anything if we needed it. The annex was very quaint and comfortable. My bf and I commented that we could live there quite happily. There was nothing we didn’t like. It was the perfect size for the two of us. The bed was unbelievably comfortable. It had a lovely garden view also.
- C (9/5): Break from home decorating - Location hosts accomodation really good I was warned water pressure was poor and bath did take a while to fill
- David (8/5): Lovely short stay, made to feel very welcome. Thank you ! - Pat & Tim were both lovely hosts and gave us clear instructions on how to find the property, as the post code takes you a little further down the road. Pat showed us around, it is next to their property but still very private with a secluded garden and seating area. Huge TV !, patio doors from the lounge area into the garden and all of the annexe is a god size with good facilities. They were happy to welcome Lillie, our dog, to their property. Very kindly supplied beer, water and homemade wine !.. Walking distance to food shops
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Aine (10/5): Lovely one bedroomed well equipped bungalow with parking and private putdoor space - I travel a lot with work and prefer to stay self catering so have stayed in lots of apartments etc. It was lovely at Chestnut Lodge to have a whole one bedroomed bungalow, with a lovely private outdoor patio area and garden and parking right outside. The bungalow is really well equipped with everything you could need, and very clean and comfortable. Pat and Tim are friendly and welcoming but not at all intrusive. I hope to be able to stay again Nothing
- Val (9/5): Perfect for a short break. - Location. Friendly hosts. Nothing
- Nigel (10/5): Excellent really enjoyed ourselfs - Hosts where great always had a smile on there faces nothing was to much for them.
Always looking for ways to improve facilities, put new bathroom in now . Beautiful garden to look at first thing in morning .Lovely couple Nothing there doing a great job 👏 👍
- Torrekens (9/5): Warm welcome and value for money! - The owners/neighbours gave us a very warm welcome! The kitchen was big and had all you needed to make a meal. A washing machine and coffee percolator. A lovely large garden with picknick table, a small dining room with a big tv screen and sofa. Good bedroom. 5 minutes walking to Lidl shop and train station (38 minutes journey to Cardiff Central) ! The bathroom was big with a toilet, washing table, bath and shower cubicle. For me it wasn't very practical, very small mirror and no light bulb above the washing table.
- Karen (9/5): Superb -
- Keith (10/5): Friendly hosts, great venue for sight seeing. - The hosts Pat and Tim were just lovely and couldn’t do enough to make our stay perfect. The destination is great for getting around near to Swansea Barry Island and Cardiff with lots to see and do.
The back garden is a delight lovely to sit out and have a drink in the evening, we were lucky enough to see the visiting fox which made our day. Pat even had dog bowls and poo bags as she knew we were taking our dogs.
Tea and coffee was provided along with a cold beer. This is a lovely couple who value their customers and we would definitely go and stay again. We can’t think of anything.
- Lady (10/5): Cosy comfortable and peaceful - Beautiful surroundings, comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. Nothing not to like about it
