Guest Reviews
- Andrew (8/5): -
- Kristine (7/5): All the charm of Auburn wrapped up in this cottage. - Excellent location right next door to a cafe, and the pub on the other side. Accommodation was self contained as well, so cooking facilities with a good selection of plates, pans, utensils etc. Bathroom was quite slim & tiny, would have been tricky to navigate if you were not steady on your feet. Bonus to that was it was warm as the wall heater worked well for the smaller space.

- Jasmine (10/5): - Querky little old school cottage that has been done up so nicely! 👌 Nothing to fault
- Melissa (10/5): - Lovely, cosy, clean and comfortable. Great location Key lock code slight problem receiving before arrival.... mobile number on arrival promptly answered and code given.
- Michael (9/5): -
- Matthews (7/5): A public location, not very private. - The beds were super comfy, and the owner was very friendly. There is no outdoor private area in the two-bedroom loft.
You open your back door to a back door that meets the restaurant kitchen and share the outdoor area with the customers from the restaurant.
A few of the switches did not work for the lights.
- Toetu (10/5): Had everything we required will be back again in June 😊 - Location Nothing
- Sally (8/5): Great location. Cute cottage. Expansive garden. - Lovely location. Huge bathroom. Everything we needed. Light in Laneway shone through curtains during the night. Door was drafty.
- Roxanne (9/5): -
- Genevieve Tanya (8/5): Auburn with family - The cleanliness and the Housekeeper was lovely Location is very good
- stuart (10/5): Very much enjoyed my stay and it was the 3rd time and definitely will stay there next time - Beautiful setting and very quiet Nothing at all
- Cathy (8/5): -
- Andrew (10/5): The owner posted a shirt l left behind back to our home free, very helpful fella -
- Allicia (10/5): -
- paul (10/5): Quiet and cozy - The vintage and country feel Apart from the rising Sun, there wasn't much else to do at night
- Meg (10/5): - Everything!
- Jake (10/5): Beautiful accommodation in a picturesque wine region small town - Excellent location, right in the middle of town. The property was beautiful, with a huge open space, plenty of area to hang out on lazy days Privacy is a minor issue, with the only windows in the property facing onto the main street, and the only openable window being a sliding door without a security door, we had to rely heavily on the airconditioner during the night, which can be uncomfortable for some people. Although the property is very dog friendly, there's no enclosed outdoor space for them so if they need to go to the toilet on grass (as our dog does) you'll need to go across the road to the park
- Tony (8/5): -
- Chris (10/5): Loved our stay needed nothing more and it was quiet and comfortable. - Lovely little escape in the country close to all the facilities Auburn has to offer. Quaint and practical.
- Sarah (10/5): We loved it. Long drive from WA to VIC and it was a much needed and enjoyable rest - Character and personality of the accomodation Nothing
- Rebecca (8/5): -
- Leonidas (7/5): Great place to work, relax and unwind. - Old Tuscan style Cottage. French style windows beautiful when it rains. A great place to bring a friend. Easy check in also. Wasn’t there long enough.
- Jacqueline (8/5): -
- Paul (10/5): Great property in great location& great value for money. - Location is perfect Nothing
- Daiva (9/5): Great. Lovely place and close to nice shops - I liked the room and bathroom with windows showing lots of garden Info on how to get into room a day before or on morning of stay would be good
- Susan (9/5): Beautiful accommodation in a great location. - Location, decor, comfortable beds. The owner was exceptionally helpful even though she was away at the time. Would stay again when next in Auburn. Highly recommend. Nothing - very happy with everything.
- Jan (5/5): Consider other options in Mintaro - Location close to great wineries and local hotel only seconds away for food. Nice garden to sit in near room Upside we could bring our dog. Downside - poor comms from hosts before arrival either thru Booking.com or direct phone calls. I was chasing them and not getting a response. Room was compact - not a suite. No fridge/freezer but a wine fridge. Air con/heating had no settings so was either on full blast or off. Light in bathroom was faulty. No sharp knife, washing up liquid or tea towel for 'kitchenette' facilities. Cafe opened at 9am which was too late for everyday needs.
- Dorota (3/5): I would have never booked it if I had known we would be sleeping in a room made out of garden shed. - The property on booking.com was advertised with photos of 2-bedroom unit, not 1 bedroom which was really like a shed in the garden. Very misleading pictures. It smelled like a shed with mould. Very unpleasant experience and dishonest approach. It should have been specified on photos and description what kind of room is booked, not as a large, beautiful house.
- Neil (8/5): Really good getaway destination close to many vineyards and historic sites - Suite 1 was a great little hideaway and we were close to all the local shops A tiny bit shabby here and there
- Neil (8/5): A great place for couples or family to stay in the Clare Valley - The Loft was well set up for family or couples, with lots of space and pretty well fully equipped kitchen. Also had an extra bed tucked away under the mezzanine bedroom. Everything that we needed was there. It needed a little bit of attention to detail to cleanliness and presentation - some dead flowers in vases, unswept entrance and incomplete written information for guests (only instructions for entertainment equipment). It also fronted the North Main Road, so it was a bit noisy.
- HAYDN (9/5): Good base to see Clare Valley wineries. (Clare town ain’t much to rave about.) - Pet friendly. Cafe out front and bench seating out back.
Next to the Rising Sun. Room on side of building.
Nothing to do with the accom but most shops closed midweek.
- Belsole (8/5): -
- Lorraine (8/5): Lovely place to stay - Lots of character and room
- Carolion (5/5): - No storage, pillows extra blankets had to be stored on the floor.
No bench space in the bathroom.
When I booked Auburn garden suites, I expected there was a living room "All the comforts of home ",sadly this was not the case.
- RJ (9/5): - The space felt warm, open, and inviting, with a comfortable, homely vibe. It was far from feeling stale or neglected, The only minor downsides were a bit of dust (understandable for an older property) and only half a roll of toilet paper provided, with no spare.
- John (10/5): Terrific especailly for a couple wanting a romantic get away in the beautiful town of Auburn. - Beautiful loft and fabulous hosts. A jewel in the crown of the Clare Valley.
- Quick (10/5): A beautiful spot to enjoy a peaceful weekend! - Property in a great location and was very clean. Amenities kept in excellent condition. Not much to not like. We enjoyed our stay greatly!
- Cameron (9/5): -
- Geoff (9/5): -
- Naomi (8/5): -
- Katherine (8/5): Well located cosy accommodation for our O’Leary Walker lunch - Location
- Wendy (10/5): A gorgeous place to stay and location was great as it was right next to the Main Street. - The heater was on and the room was deliciously warm on this cold evening. Plenty of extra pillows and blankets.
- Piper (10/5): -
- Ray (5/5): -
- Nicolas (8/5): - Very nice structure, easy to find and perfectly positioned to experience the Riesling trail. Eccellent for a couple, to relax in between winery visits. We visited in July and the bathroom turned to be rather cold. Also it would be good to have breakfast options included, although it is easy to just walk across the street and sort it out.
- Farrar (8/5): Good for one night. Location close to restaurants. Comfortable bed but it was a bit cold. - Charming cottage, comfortable bed, large bathroom, pretty garden surrounds and good location. The heater was very ineffective so it was chilly (stayed in July).
- Jenny (10/5): Exceptional -
- Daniele (8/5): Very cool place to stay if you like something slightly different. - At the start of the Clare Valley so well situated if you're on a winery tour of the region. Room was eclectic and this is what we liked about it. Well looked after and cared for. Excellent communication from Warren via SMS/emails etc. Not too many eating options in Auburn on a Tuesday evening sadly so you may need to plan or travel to Watervale or Clare.
- Donna (7/5): Good -
- Janet (8/5): Very good - Great location in heart of Auburn but not on the main road so it was very quiet. Off-street parking beside our room.
- Alan (7/5): Good - The location. In Auburn is great Lack of any kitchen type facilities
- Petra (8/5): Very good - Rustic, cute and comfortable, positioned conveniently behind a cafe/restaurant where you can grab coffee, meals and upmarket grocery items. Auburn is a pretty little town and this charming little spot is nicely placed for you to walk around. The fridge, microwave and toaster were very handy. It's really just a bedroom with ensuite, so keep in mind that you'll probably need to take your furry friend with you when you go out - it's not really possible to leave them inside here all day. The bathroom was nice and large, but the lack of vanity/bench space to put toiletries was frustrating, and there was a sizeable gap in the wall that let the cold in from the outside. The neighbouring room was so close we kept turning each other's lights and fan off and on with the remotes (unless that was a ghost!). A small coffee pod machine would be very welcome, rather than the instant coffee selection.
- Luke (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jacqueline (7/5): Loved our overnight stay in Auburn Garden Cottages!! Will come back for sure !! - I did think there was going to be breakfast items supplied but I might have got that wrong.
We made a coffee and went to the bakery for brekkie so no dramas.
Lovely little cottage and we would come back!! Thank you
- Robyn (8/5): Very good -
- John (10/5): Beautiful apartment, with great hosts, and thoroughly recommend for visitors to the Clare Valley. - The apartment/suite was exceptional. The generous space, decor and facilities were first rate. The king size bed in the loft was heavenly and Warren the host was extremely helpful during our stay. We would highly recommend this location for anyone wishing to visit the Clare Valley and feel that they are in fact in an apartment in the French countryside. A special thank you to Marjorie for her generosity and assistance in making our stay so enjoyable. It is rare to find hosts who go above and beyond to ensure that your stay is enjoyable, fun and seamless. A special mention for the open fireplace which provided a cosy and homely feel in the cooler weather. N/A
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Tsuboi-sigmund (9/5): Superb - I really like the room decoration and the spacious bathroom, as well as the in-room wine cellar — it’s perfect after buying lots of wine during a day of winery hopping!
All the staff are very friendly, and you can access the café directly from the accommodation.
There are also a few wineries within walking distance. We love cats, but at 4:30am, a very loud cat fight started right behind the wall next to our bed.
- Louise (2/5): Would not recommend - . The bathroom is tiny and right in the kitchen. The aircon in the lounge didn’t work in heat and the cottage was cold. Not a pleasant stay unfortunately. Definitely not suitable for 3 people as it stated.
- Maria (9/5): Superb -
- Tom (8/5): Quaint little cottage close to Pub for meals and Clare Valley wineries. Satisfied our needs -
- Julia (5/5): Friendly host, comfortable and in a great location; just needs more cleaning. - Location was wonderful and pet friendly. The bed was comfy. Marjorie was lovely and was really trying to make our stay comfortable despite an unfortunate start to our stay with a broken toilet needing fixing. Cleanliness. Sadly, the property was extremely dusty and clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly in a while. There were areas of mould in the kitchen and the outside wall of the shower. The kitchen and bathroom require upgrading as they are very tired looking. Overall, cleaned on the surface but really needs a deep clean and a bit more attention to detail to match some other accommodations in the area.
- Meredith (7/5): Good - Location.
Comfy bed.
Roomy bathroom with good shower Hole in bathroom door
Wine fridge instead of proper bar fridge
- Alvin (7/5): Good - Proximity to Clare Valley. All ok
- Renee (10/5): Exceptional - Always a lovely stay, I travel through annually for work and always make sure I stay here. Great modern, spacious rooms and furnished beautifully. Only thing I would add is Wifi would be great as I require it for work and am unable to get service on my personal wifi dongle.
- Anderson (6/5): Dog friendly - The property was dog friendly
Which was the sole reason I decided to choose the accommodation The bed collapsed totally on day 1 of our 2 night stay
Fortunately the owner was contactable and we were offered the second unit for our 2nd night stay
Luckily the key had been left in the door from previous guest
There was only 2 coffee bags for 2 guests for a 2 night stay
Very disappointed compared to my previous stays in other airb&bs in the areaDog
- Janine (10/5): Comfortable and completely relaxing - Wonderful accommodation, loved Auburn. Nothing
- Lou-anne (8/5): Very good -
- Hannah (10/5): Picturesque place best spot to stay if planning to visit Clare Valley region! - Beautifully and thoughtfully decorated. Lovely heritage site. So close to good food and the gorgeous garden was perfect to enjoy in the evening.
Super special to be able to bring the furry friend too!
- Graeme (9/5): the town of Auburn is alovely old town and the drive to Clare with numerous wineries is great - well located center of town . Cool even on hot days. Kitchen small but well appointed. nothing
- Eagling (8/5): Great location, clean and comfortable, great host - Perfect location just off the main road through Auburn, walk to everything.
- Emma (10/5): Peaceful, beautiful cotswhe, very close to the main street, with easy parking and check-in - Loved that it was dog friendly, spacious and in a beautiful location! Check-in was easy too
- Heather (10/5): Exceptional -
- Megan (8/5): Refreshing. - Thank you for a lovely stay.- the location was the biggest draw card. A few extra things like some breakfast provisions would have been nice but overall a lovely relaxing stay.
- Helen (9/5): Superb -
- Carly (8/5): Amazing stay. Great location in centre of Auburn - Location and cool loft Got checked into the wrong room, and then berated when returning to fix the problem that the staff created.
- Amber (10/5): Exceptional - We recently stayed at this wonderful accommodation, and our experience was beyond exceptional. Unfortunately, during our stay, my husband had a bike accident, and we had to extend our visit. Our host went above and beyond to accommodate us during this unexpected situation. They not only made extending our stay seamless but also checked in regularly to ensure we had everything we needed. The personal care and thoughtfulness shown during such a stressful time truly made all the difference.
From the beautiful, comfortable setting to the warm and attentive hospitality, we couldn’t have asked for a better place to recover and relax. The private garden was such a peaceful retreat, and if the loft accommodation isn’t available, the other charming suites are just as lovely. The fact that this place is dog-friendly was a huge plus for us, especially with convenient onsite parking. Its proximity to the local pub, parklands, and easy access to the Riesling Trail made it all the more enjoyable. Plus, having an IGA shop just down the road was incredibly convenient.
We will forever be grateful for the kindness and genuine support we received here, and we highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a stay that feels like a home away from home. Thank you for turning a difficult situation into a positive and memorable experience!
Warmest regards,
Amber and James.
- Mark (7/5): Good - Never had TV or any Streaming Apps.
Can sort of understand a little bit about Wi Fi not working but not to have Basic TV was totally unacceptable.
Put an Antenna on the roof that way your guests have at least ONE option.
Also if you advertise a wood fire Don't then turn around and cheekily ask for $20 for wood and cleaning, I noticed it wasn't cleaned just wood put on top of the burnt Embers.
- Gwyn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Victoria (1/5): Bad - Just prior to heading to the accommodation, I had to send a message for information to access the property. It was only then I was advised that the accommodation had been double-booked. It can be assumed the host was trying to make the most money by accepting another booking for a longer period and had no regard to the prior booking nor communicating the fact the accommodation was no longer available. We had the stress of having to find alternative accommodation at the last minute.
- Lyndsey (9/5): We had a great time . Enjoyed the accommodation but just seemed to need a paint . But didn’t affect our stay . The owner - The mezzanine floor , lovely clean sheets ,amazing position in Auburn great kitchen . Liked all the venues right next door and close by . The wine left for us was lovely surprise Badly needs some upgrade . Wood outside very rotting boards needing paint and the tables need new tops . Plus a plant was growing through a crack between wall and floor inside . The floor was so creaky as we tried to move around at night . No off road parking , had to leave car on main road
- John (5/5): Pleasant host we felt misled by the excellent pictures into thinking this was a proper 2 bedroom apartment however is wa - Clean well positioned apartment The second bedroom is an under-stairs storage area with no privacy. The apartment is not suitable for 2 couples.
Unfortunately the WiFi and TV were both out of order during our stay.
