Guest Reviews
- Edwards (8/5): -
- Colm (10/5): Fantastic - Clean, tidy and very cosy.. Michael and wife were very helpful, professional and accommodating
- Fiona (8/5): Great location. - Great location for visiting Harris and Lewis as croft is centrally located on island. Owners friendly and helpful. Great view from bedroom window! Parking was opposite croft, across the road in layby, so had to be extra careful crossing the road with luggage.
- Arvin (8/5): - The location is little hard to find as there is no obvious signs. The house is just below the highway. But once you’ve reached the host Michael makes sure that you’re very comfortable for the stay and their pet is a lively border collie 🙂
- Paul (9/5): - Great location and such a friendly owner too! It was nice to be able to use the kitchen too. It was a bit chilly! Extra blankets definitely needed on a cold march night.

- Ele (4/5): Awkward owners but comfortable room - The Room was beautiful and comfortable, lots of space and a comfortable bed. They had the most adorable dog which was the best part of staying there. The owner clearly was not comfortable having a stranger in his house. As the property was so far from any shops I brought food to cook a quick meal. The owner consistently hovered over me while I cooked and made me feel like I was inconveniencing them, even though I was only cooking for a max 20 minutes and made sure everything was cleaned and put away. The shower needed to be pre-heated and I let them know that I preferred to shower before bed as I had been hiking most of the day and it seemed like they wanted me to shower in the morning when they would have the water heated up for them selves.
If you a renting a room, too far away from any restaurant or pub, you should expect people would want to cook their own meal. Don't make them feel awkward and an inconvenience.
- Mary-Anne (10/5): - The location was ideal for me travelling on the Hebridean Way. The room was clean and quiet.
- Prasanth (10/5): -
- Lynton (5/5): Ok for a one night stayover - Good location for ferry Small
- Manja (9/5): Spent a very good time there - Michael und Karolina waren sehr nett, Uisge ist wirklich eine bezaubernde Hündin. Ich hab mich sehr wohl gefühlt.
Küche konnte mit benutzt werden. -
- Pierre (9/5): -
- Doineann (10/5): Perfect. - Michael was a lovely host, knowligable, and a gentleman. I had so much fun with 4 legs and a ball, thank you for that Michael, a good bit of therapy to unwind a bit. God bless brother, I wish you well.
- MOULINOUX (7/5): -
- Christopher (3/5): - After my shower I left my towel draped over the radiator which I accidentally forgot to remove, and the bath mat on the floor. We all make mistakes, right? We all forget something occasionally, especially after a long journey that day.
After leaving, received an angry email from the host, equating this minor error on my behalf to “disrespectful behavior which they were quite upset by”. I replied with an apology and thanks for their hospitality.
If you stay, make sure you’re perfect.
Otherwise, clean, quiet, with a comfortable bed, and conveniently located on the main road.
- Sanchez (9/5): Merveilleux séjour - Accueil très sympathique et chaleureux, établissement propre et confortable. Cuisine à disposition si besoin.
- Nicky (8/5): A very warm welcome from Michael and Uisge the border collie, comfy stay but sad there was no coffee . - Clean, tasteful and very comfortable, easy to find with a lovely view to the loch below. I didn’t realise I’d be allowed to use the kitchen so I didn’t bring tea or coffee with me. Starting the day without a cuppa was a challenge!
- Cornelia Ariaantje (10/5): Gastvrij verblijf... - Michael was heel gastvrij. De kamer was ruim en netjes. De badkamer is aan de andere kant van het huis. Vooral 's nachts is het moeilijk om dan niet teveel geluid te maken tijdens je tocht door een donker huis.
- Soames (7/5): Good - . .
- Niall (9/5): Love the location.....a true Scottish B&B - Michael is an outstanding host, the location was perfect for my desire to access the whole of the island of Lewis and Harris, as I have family in both areas, and close enough to Stornoway for a dinner with friends.
- Wilf (8/5): Very good - Nice room, Michael gives you the run of the place.
Michael is good company and Ishka (the dog) is amazing. Booking.com
- Sarah (10/5): Perfect - Very nice place with a beautiful view. Michael was very welcoming and respectful. The room was cosy and clean with a comfortable bed. Ideal for a nice and relaxing break between Tarbert and Stornoway.
- Stanley (9/5): Perfect of my needs for a one night stay on the islands. - No breakfast here was room only but I was allowed to use the kitchen facilities and fridge.
Nice room with a comfortable bed and host was very nice. Not an issue for me as I am a travelling Tour Driver but the location is more or less half way between Tarbert and Stornoway and there is little in the area with regard to shops etc.
- Jamie (10/5): Exceptional - Really well situated, stunning location and I actually just really liked Michael, he gave me space but we chatted away too. his four legged companion Ishka is just so bright and endearing.
- ジョセフ (9/5): Superb -
- Héloïse (8/5): Very good - Michael and Carolina were so kind and attentive ! Ichka was so cute ! (Sorry don't know how write the name)

- Vincent (8/5): Good location, friendly hosts and dog.very clean and well equipped. -
- Liam (8/5): Cheap and cheerful - Immaculate cheap room for the night. Perfect for quick stopover.
- Macleod (9/5): Superb - Ideal stop off location for a solo traveller. Michael the host very welcoming, helpful and interesting. Facilities excellent, private bedroom and very comfortable bed. Although location is about 15 miles from the main town Stornoway there is a good local bus service running by the property. Space for parking a car across the road from the property and a very scenic location.
If you like dogs the resident collie Ishga will keep you going and will be your new best friend if you keep throwing things for her. She is extremely well behaved. The property and set up suited me down to the ground so no complaints. I could come and go as I liked.
- Stephen (9/5): All I was looking for. - Delightful house, one of those bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside, immaculately clean, friendly host. Balallan is a great location to explore the island from, being roughly in the centre, which makes it amazing to see the seaweed on the shore when the tide’s down in the loch Balallan sits above and realise you’re looking at the sea. I could have stayed a little longer.
- Luca (10/5): Perfect! - Very friendly hosts, quiet room, all necessary to pass the night, very clean and comfortable room! Super!
- Stephanie (8/5): Very good - Good for a solo traveller
- Peter (8/5): Very good -

- John (7/5): Did what it said on the tin ! Nice people - Did what it said on the tin ! Nice people
- Alison (9/5): Lovely quaint room, lovely home. Geat owners . mid island location. Great place - In family well kept home. Owners very respectful of space. Room was good size and single bed was comfy. Nice view from window. Lovely friendly dog. No lock on bedroom door . Only thing .
- Ines (7/5): Good - Nice little room, house directly at the main road, therefore easy access. Clean and comfortable. You are sharing the bathroom with the owners, but that's no problem. Was able to put my bike in the shed. Loved the dog! It was a bit cold at night as the heating got switched off.
No breakfast, so take provisions as there is only one café nearby which only opens at 10 a.m. and no shops close.
- Dianne (8/5): Very good - Pleasant and helpful hosts. Nice bedroom with good view and interesting reading on the shelf. Lots of hot water in the morning.
- Jill (10/5): Thank you for a lovely stay! - Just a fantastic stay with a wonderful host!
- Alastair (10/5): Exceptional - very comfortable and clean, pleasant hosts
- Wayne (8/5): Very good - Loved the pooch. Once, I knew what the arrangements were with regards to the facilities it was fine. The hosts are lovely. This was a different arrangement than I am used to. I was a bit naieve with the air b and b concept. Maybe an explanation as to what to expect in this Environment would have prepared me.
- Fiona (7/5): Good -
- Christine (7/5): Good -
- Nigel (9/5): Michael is a great host, in a splendid location -
- Dee (5/5): very friendly and welcoming - I just needed a room for 1 night and Gunn Croft was perfect

- Menzies (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jennifer (9/5): Superb -
- James (9/5): Homely and hospitable welcome. Excellent location for Hebridean Way walkers/cyclists. - Beautifully maintained house with tasteful decoration and artwork, private space good with comfortable bed for one and a wardrobe, chair and desk.and table.
Very clean kitchen and bath facilities. Clear communicstion before stay.and friendly welcome. Made to feel at home. Because of location - far from shops, especially for walkers - ideally there could be a simple breakfast (cereal/porridge and toast, tea/coffee) which could be offered as a paid-for supplement for example. Help/encouragement for booking into the excellent Balallan Bistro could be offered also.
