Guest Reviews
- Promatt (2/5): Unclean - Location, bed was comfortable. Rooms were not very clean, kitchen dated and not cleaned throughly, used amd dirty cup and some of the glasses in cupboards, cooking pans not cleaned properly, dusty and hair on the sofas. Fridge was barely cold.
Games room in loft was unkempt, many broken items, bird poo on most surfaces. Wouldn't let my children use anything.
Disappointed.
- Alice (9/5): - Fab hosts and the pool was amazing, especially during the heatwave! There was a playroom for the kids as well. Very well equipped room and spacious. The shower in our room was a little low on pressure but everything else worked well.
- Issac (8/5): Great value for money in a hot summer day! Friendly staff! - The staff was amazingly friendly and welcomed us earlier than check-in time, as we arrived early due to the need to move from a different hotel. The lady who maintains the place cleaned our room especially early and was willing to help with any need. The pool and the outside garden were nicely decorated with new furnitures, three BBQs, and a large freezer for guests' use. The beds were very large and comfortable. The kitchen would benefit from a face lift and more cleaning.
- Julie (9/5): Looking forward to visiting again -
- Linda (9/5): -
- Cheryl (10/5): Beautiful swimming pool and pretty, relaxing outdoor area with a real holiday atmosphere. -
- Mell (10/5): Ticked all the boxes - Great location. Kids loved the pool as it was so hot. Would definitely recommend.
- Mauricio (10/5): Sensacional! - Excelente! Recomendo! Tudo estava perfeito. Nada a reclamar.
- Anna (7/5): Good relatively basic affordable stay - Easy to access, two bed apartment was decent size for family - better than average family room in a hotel The games room has been poorly maintained and the pool was shut
- Linda (9/5): -
- Fiona (4/5): Great potential but disappointing. The host was fantastic though and very helpful on message. - The barn location was great and the facilities had the potential to be amazing. There was a games room with a good selection of toys for our little boy. The cottage was not as clean as we would have expected. There were noticeable stains on the kitchen cupboards that hadn’t been cleaned. The fridge was not clean and there were a large number of flies in the property. The flies increased as the night went on.
We took our little boy with us who found two tablets on the floor which indicated that the property hadn’t been hoovered properly. It’s felt a little run down and unloved.
In the children’s area, there was a lot of bird poo all over the floor and on the toys. Not quite what was expected.
- Adam (10/5): - Location was beautiful, accommodating responsive host highly recommend Slight confusion over opening times for pool but such a beautiful place it didnt really matter
- Elizabeth (9/5): 100% recommend! - Absolutely spotlessly clean! Perfect location. Everything we needed for making food and drinks were included. Very fast response time and polite owners/housekeepers. Spacious, and comfortable.
- Rose (8/5): Lovely stay kids love it. - Views.
Kids play barn.
Very helpful with everything and accommodating. The bins were not changed before hand from the cleaner but this must been a genuine mistake.
- Patrick (8/5): A lovrly place to stay really comfortable - The oven shelves did not fit and the wifi code did not work
- Mike (9/5): Great stay - thank you! -
- Martin (8/5): Was a lovely place, comfortable bed. Would stay again. - Was nice and clean and very quiet. All that you needed was on hand and nicely situated. Bed was comfy! Was disappointed that there wasn’t a bath as stated in the description for my cottage and in the pictures.
- Abby (10/5): -
- Fullegar (10/5): Relaxed, rural stay - This was absolutely perfect for us, surprisingly spacious with an enormous bed. Lovely and warm, very nicely furnished and comfortable space. I imagine this would be particularly great for families in the summer, and we will definitely be staying again when visiting family. The host was really communicative, kind and friendly. A lovely stay! Nothing!
- Wendy (9/5): Excellent property, good location, clear instructions for entry, great for dogs. Would definitely return . - Very warm and comfortable, had everything we needed.
Clean and also perfect for our two dogs
The Christmas tree and decorations were a nice touch too 😊 Nothing
- Karina (10/5): Relaxing - We loved the games roim Had probkems with wifi and heating but somine was quuck to help
- Linda (8/5): - Modern, comfy, clean
- Michelle (10/5): -
- Chloe (10/5): -
- Frary (10/5): Perfect place between Colchester and the coast - The whole place was lovely. It was very well equipped, the beds were comfy and it was perfect for a weekend getaway.
There was tea and coffee provided on arrival.
Birds farm is about 10 - 15 minutes from the city centre but it was in the peace of the countryside, it was easy to find too!
- Chris (9/5): Lovely stay and great spot - Location
Size
Price Shower not really working
- Jonathan (9/5): -
- rob (8/5): -
- Kirsty (8/5): - Size and facilities was good Felt a little upgrade of bathroom would be good
- Clare (8/5): -
- Deborah (9/5): A very convenient reasonably priced place to stay near to family. - Keycode meant we could arrive when we liked between check in time at our leisure, which was very convenient as it was Christmas Day! I requested a late check out and was granted 11am, instead of 10am, which was very nice as we were waking up on Boxing Day after a late night with children. Nothing really. All very comfortable.
- Lee (9/5): High standards, good location, superb value! - Very well appointed, super convenient, immaculately clean and just a lovely space The shower in our unit had zero pressure so getting shampoo out of hair was a sink job!
- Gemma (8/5): Beautifully clean, great rooms but poor games room. Would return for sure, but only when this faculty had been fixed. - We stayed in Plover. It was super. Very quant, had all the facilities we needed. The little kitchen was super. Lots of utensils, there was already tea and coffee available for us to have as well, plus the basics for washing up. It was all immaculately clean and super warm in our room. Bathroom was spacious and lovely too.
Bedrooms were lovely, but our bed was exceptionally small. Down to personal feeling as mysel and husband are very tall ans have a large bed at home! It was super comfy but just not big enough. Appreciate the size of room wouldn’t have fit a larger bed!
Our stay was great as we needed to be in Brightlingsea early on Wednesday morning so it was really good. However unfortunately a couple of points that would have made our stay perfect.
one of mugs had a huge crack in it from top to bottom so we couldn’t use it. Please could this be replaced for the next guests.
the oven had a very loose screw which meant I couldn’t close it very easily. I had to use a wooden spoon to lift it up to align it so I could close the oven door while in use. Please could you look at this as it’s very unsafe while using it and someone could get burnt.
The games room my children were very excited about using however this was a really big disappointment. All of the poolques had no tips on them, plus one of them was broken in the middle. The pockets on the table some of them were broken so the balls would just fall through.
The lights working in the middle of the room were broken, so it was difficult to see.
The Air hockey table didn’t work either. There wasn’t enough presure for the disc to float so was in-playable.
Due to the nature of our stay, I really wanted my children to be able to have a fun evening, they were really looking forward to using the game rooms and was one of the other big reasons why I booked Birds Farm. This was a big let down I’m sorry to stay.
- Clarke (10/5): Clakka & Pinkie - Our 2nd time here and as before was brilliant home from home,Christmas tree up was nice and cisy
- Andrew (10/5): -
- Susan (10/5): What a cosy warm welcome with the added bonus of a twinkling Christmas tree! We found our short stay very relaxing and w - Quiet location. Clean and comfortable accommodation Nothing to dislike
- Justine (10/5): Perfect location, accommodating hosts, will be booking again when we travel to Essex - Location was perfect, everything we needed for our stay N/A
- Lucy (7/5): Ok - Spacious No instructions for the heating, cold on arrival.
Not very clean
- John (10/5): - The property was easy to locate using the clear instructions. It was clean, tidy and had everything we needed. We felt very safe. We had trouble accessing the WiFi and missed BBC1/BBC2 on tv but not a major issue!
- Abby (10/5): - Possibly the comfiest bed I’ve ever slept in! Nothing!
- Laura (10/5): -
- Andrew (10/5): - Beautiful accommodation.with safe off road parking.
- Ross (10/5): - Possibly the nicest accommodation i have stayed in. Very comfy beds and spotlessly clean. Nothing to complain about at all.
- Neil (8/5): -
- Sophie (10/5): Perfect stay really enjoyed it and will definitely be going back in the future. - Kept very clean, beds were amazing and location was beautiful. Perfect with friends or family and especially good for the price. No complaints at all
- Mervyn (9/5): Excellent place for a short stay - Details of WiFi password, only got it after finding the router
- Marion (10/5): A very comfortable stay - day and night! - Comfortable, clean and cosy stop over providing everything we needed - wish we had booked for longer to explore the area. Would happily return. The accommodation was perfect for our needs. Even our elderly dog soon made himself at home!
- Paula (7/5): -
- Russ Milner (10/5): - Really nice place
- Jethro (10/5): -
- Ross (9/5): Lovely stay with a warm pool, quiet in the morning, and barbeques to use. -
- Suckling (10/5): - Loved everything about birds farm
Will definitely be returning
Great for families or just couples
Has everything for everyone There was nothing we didn't like
- Eugenia (10/5): -
- Joe (10/5): -
- Vicky (9/5): Great place to relax , pool was fab for the kids! - Comfy, clean, well decorated rooms.
Owner was quick to respond to any questions. To be picky, considering we loved everything about the property, another mirror outside the bathroom would have been a bonus as where me & my daughter shared the cottage ‘robin’ we were fighting for the mirror for hair & makeup 😂
- Sarah (8/5): Good stay at simple cottage. - Simple but nice cottage. Very good communication from host. Cottage and facilities good for what we were looking for for the evening. Well equipped cottage. Wasn’t fancy- no frills- but worked well for us. Shower pressure not great, but fine.
- Leonardo (10/5): -
- Sharon (10/5): Fantastic, well designed cottages with everything you need for a great break 😊 - We spent the whole afternoon around the pool and then later had dinner outside in the garden it was so good then later played games in the play room. Fantastic facilities
- Julie (9/5): Would definitely stay again-the garden just needs some attention - The bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in.
The accommodation was well equipped for cooking.
The children's games room was fantastic.
The hosts have really thought about after with a stair gate at the top of the playroom stairs and a fence around the pool.
The pool and surrounding furniture was lovely. The gardens were overgrown and the stone driveway was covered in weeds. It was a shame because the accommodation and facilities were fantastic-it just looked like it needed a gardener to come in and sort it out as first impressions are important.
- sophie (7/5): Even with a few negatives. We had a great time and will definitely return, the pool is a great aspect. Thank you - We loved the living area upstairs and the layout of the whole property. Beds were comfy and bedding lovely and soft and fresh.
The swimming pool was lovely and the whole reason we booked here last minute. Lovely seating areas outside with bbqs to use which was great. Garden area overgrown, patchy with grass and stones, looks a bit shabby and pool area messy with pool toys.
In the room the bottom/larger part of the oven didn’t work, just didn’t turn on I had to cook in the tiny top oven and the oven and kitchen were quite dirty, everything needs a good wipe over and general clean. The property is not staffed so there was no one to speak to about this, as we were only here for one night I didn’t want to be sat on the phone trying to contact someone.
- Amass (10/5): Exceptional - Area pool quite it's great Outside lighting
- Pearce (10/5): Great mini break stay, would come back. - Host accommodating and helpful. Fantastic pool facility, comfortable accommodation. Excellent location to explore local area. The games room needed a little extra clean. However, it didn't stop the kids from having lots of fun.
The TVs were a little hit or miss, one didn't work very well.
- Peter (6/5): Pleasant -
- Raj (9/5): Peaceful break with my children - The facilities: Swimming pool, games room, big TV in our barn, communal garden space, easy accessible parking outside. Handy having a washing machine (tip: uses £1 or 20p coins), clothes dryer, front courtyard. We stayed 4 nights, 1 adult, 3 children. Safe to say children had an absolute blast. I also forgot to pack kids swim stuff and was so happy this place had swim safety equipment i.e. floats, armbands, jackets as well as all the fun stuff you'd want for children in the pool. We enjoyed movie nights, competitive air hockey, table football and the pool table. Was able to cook meals there and it was nice it was open plan as I didn't feel like I was missing out on any fun! If I were to nitpick, it would be the water pressure and the heat of the hot water. You can't have a hot wash or shower (like I am used to) but this did not in anyway affect our time here.
- David (8/5): Great place - NIce size Oven didn’t seem to heat up very well
- Valerie (8/5): Very good - Comfy beds Nice to get biscuits on arrival Easy parking Nice pool Insects Sofas were a bit basic Netflix or similar would have been good
- Roger (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sinclair (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ian (9/5): Relaxing stay - fab to have an outdoor pool and games room for the kids too! - Lovely place with tastefully-decorated interiors, easy parking, games room and outdoor pool!
We had two families in different cottages, but the kids spent most of the weekend either in the pool which was lovely and warm or upstairs in the games room having a great time with no parents!
The adults made the most of the decking / outdoor seating area and barbecues provided, but when night fell the lounges within the cottages were big enough for us, comfy and relaxing.
The owners were responsive, friendly and accommodating.
Colchester was an easy 15 minute drive, the beach was about 25 minutes away and there were shops/supermarkets within a few minutes too Wish the fridge had been bigger, but not the end of the world!
- Gerry (8/5): Great - Good location for our purposes All Good. Fan provided essential in the warm weather. Thankyou.
- Jú-dit (8/5): Very good -
- Pauline (9/5): Superb -
- Melissa (10/5): A great pool on a sunny weekend - Great pool lots of flies
- Justine (10/5): Wonderful family fun, delightful swimming pool in a gorgeous location - Self contained. Option for self catering. Ideal for families. Beautiful pool too The weather was very hot and it was a shame there was no long handled opener for the velux window in the bathroom….otherwise it was an ideal place to stay
- Sally (10/5): Exceptional -
- Heather (10/5): Totally amazing 💯 recommend will return - The decor - the attention to detail and facilities One of the rooms had lukewarm water and low water pressure to shower - however not enough to ruin our stay
- Russell (10/5): Exceptional -
- Russell (9/5): Superb -
- Jacob (9/5): Absolutely amazing - The location was amazing with the pool but wasn't open at the time but will definitely come back again N/a
- Tylerjane (8/5): Very nice cottage would definitely book again. - Aesthetic and well laid out, welcoming, check out and check in were simple and easy as well as good instructions from owners. Good accessibility to shops but out of the way. Odd occasion with doors where they wouldn’t open or stuff and bathroom lock was a little dodgy. And small problem with flys when leaving windows may need bug spray or plug in insect repellent.
- Jack (6/5): Pleasant stay. - Very clean and tidy. Location was ideal for what we wanted. The beds and pillows were rock hard.
The games room needs updating. Most toys were broken and old.
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vennessa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Krasimir (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sachin (1/5): Bad - Very rude people trying to scam
- Estera (9/5): Superb - Comfy cottage, everything what you need A bit cold in living room
- Vidmantas (8/5): Very good -
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Trudi (10/5): Exceptional - Beautifully clean, comfy beds, lovely views , very cosy cottage The shower could be improved.
- Jane (8/5): I was only there for 2 nights so it served me well. Slept like a baby - the bed was very comfortable
The location view - only seeing the accommodation opposite, no outside view
Could have a mirror in the bedroom
- Vivito (8/5): Very good -
- Marina (9/5): Superb -
- Emanuel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kerrie (9/5): Warm, welcoming and great value for money - Great layout clean and comfortable beds There is nothing to dislike
- Alan (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Leonie (7/5): The little cottages offer everything you could want for a few days escape from normality. - Whilst the location was very rural, the main road into a large town was minutes away so the area was very quiet but easily accessible to get supplies when needed. There were a variety of coastal locations within easy reach for lovely walks on the beach or along a river or two. Nice touch to have a games area for those moments when you didn't want to venture too far. We had two properties split between our larger family group whilst there but unfortunately one of those properties experienced quite a few issues during our stay. The host was readily available to sort out these issues but the first 24 hours was more troublesome than relaxing! They did offer a reimbursement on this property as a result of the issues experienced though.
- Melissa (10/5): Exceptional - Cosy & inviting Nothing
- Oceana (9/5): Superb -
- Richard (7/5): ATTENDED FAMILY FUNERAL -
