Guest Reviews
- Kayla (9/5): It was an idyllic location and very cosy - The location was stunning We had issues with shards of glass in the kitchen, we thought from the photos there was a jetty and a few other little things but for the most part we had a fantastic stay.
- 靖飞 (10/5): Hope to come back and stay longer in summer! - Soooooo nice cottage!!! Everything is comfortable and clean. Breakfast is so great which including avocado, milk, bread, juice. Sheep are really cute and all around the house!
I hope could come back and stay longer. Highly recommend that if you stay here, you should walk along beside the lake which is really pretty!
- Southey (10/5): -
- Kian Lee (10/5): Magical location - -The remote location
-cosy interior with a fireplace
-Lovely night sky
-Magical view of the river in the morning
-host who is communicative and easily accessible
-Fully equipped kitchen Too short a stay to enjoy the cottage properly
- Susan (10/5): A beautiful cottage in a stunning private location. - Merino Cottage was utterly delightful. The location is stunning, the facilities were great and the welcome with beautiful food was lovely. We loved it. I’m struggling to find anything. It was perfect.
- Jacqueline (10/5): Perfect overnight stop but could be more - The location overlooking the river was amazing. The house was very comfortable with lovely views of the countryside and river. We loved the kayaking, the breakfast, the port, the fire and port in the evening. We wish we had another day. Everything was perfect. Nothing
- Lynn (9/5): We loved the peaceful surrounds and felt the host Pip did above and beyond to make the trip as comfy as possible! - The views, the wood fire, the little extras provided by the host!
- Jessica (9/5): - The location was very secluded, with a beautiful outlook. The cottage was very comfortable, kitchen was well equipped and the beds were extremely comfortable A little bit pricey
- Alex (9/5): Comfortable cottage in a serene and stunning landscape. - The kayaks were the best idea. We got up early for a paddle and that just set us up for a terrific day. The port at the end of a long day was such a terrific extra touch. The scenery was stunning. We loved it all.
- woodthorpe (9/5): Really peaceful - Loved the home, comfy bed with quality linen. Kayak on Jones River most enjoyable and bonus we could walk to the river. Peaceful quiet and relaxing. Home was very hot when we arrived a suggestion would be on hotter days to leave aircon on b4 visitors arrive. In saying this tho we turned aircon on then went for a paddle on the river...much cooler when we got back.
- Michelle (9/5): - The cottage was nicely decorated and stocked with everything you need . Bed and couches were super comfy and cosy. Books, games and DVDs available if you want them. Views from every window framed like a piece of art. Pip the host left breakfast items for us plus Port, trailmix and chocolates. We used the kayaks , life jackets were available for use. We paddled up the river to a small waterfall and got out and walked into it. We went for a walk to the boat ramp also where you have an amazing view of Meadowbank Lake. You can take your own boat to the cottage when you stay. We did a bit of fishing and explored the nearby towns. Loved our stay and will return to stay longer next time. Speed boats and jet skis from the lake came up the river quite fast and hovered around the front of the property playing music and talking loudly which ruined the ambience for awhile. Also we didn't feel like it was safe to swim because of this. However this is out of control of the property owner as it's public space but thought it deserved mentioning if youre going there expecting peace and quiet. Was wonderfully quiet after they left and that's when we went kayaking.
- Karen (10/5): A perfect get away and comfortable place to relax. - Beautiful cottage in a wonderful setting. So relaxing! Highly recommend. All great
- Tillie (10/5): Perfect country stay, isolated, and refreshing. - I took my partner away as a birthday surprise, and wow i booked it and i was surprised. The views looked like it was a picture frame you would hang in your house. You also have access to a private boat ramp, and can go for a swim in the river. The owner Pip and their team had left lots of beautiful complimentary (wine, port, eggs, bread, milk, yogurt, homemade butter, biscuits, cereal, granola and avocados, as well as coffee, tea and hot chocolate.) Amazing It’s not that i didnt like that there were lots of bugs and spider webs inside and out, but i feel like the spider webs could be removed from inside the house. But again that’s something about the country lifestyle.
- Rosma (10/5): Amazing place ! - Une expérience vraiment formidable ! Que du bonheur !
- Andrea (9/5): -
- Kerrie (10/5): The country felt at peace here even the one invading rabbit was happy to be seen - The isolation peace and quiet Nothing
- Vicki (10/5): -
- Aya90s (10/5): Our favourite stay ever. A warm and peaceful rural escape. Highly recommended. - From the moment we stepped inside, we were greeted by a beautifully warm and welcoming atmosphere. The cottage immediately made us feel at home, especially the little welcome chalkboard on the table by the entrance. It was such a thoughtful touch and made us feel genuinely cared for.
Unlike many places that simply advertise being “close to nature,” Merino Cottage truly delivers that experience. Out the front door, there is a vast open farm with green fields and sheep grazing peacefully. Out the back, there is a calm stream that feels almost completely private, complete with a kayak and paddles for a relaxing time on the water. The surrounding hills add to the sense of quiet and openness. Just as Pip mentioned when welcoming us, this is truly a place to enjoy fresh country air.
Inside the cottage, the bathtub was a highlight. Soaking in it gently washed away the fatigue of the day. Afterwards, curling up by the fireplace and watching the light shift from evening into night was incredibly soothing. Even though it was lightly raining on the day we arrived, the scenery was still absolutely beautiful.
We also really appreciated the thoughtful touches, especially considering the rural location. Pip had prepared a selection of snacks in the fridge, so we were never hungry, and the breakfast bread was delicious.
Merino Cottage is one of the best places we have ever stayed. This time, we only had a short break and stayed for one night, which felt far too short. We would love to return for two or three days next time, spend more time by the water, read on the deck, and truly soak in the peaceful and beautiful surroundings.
- marco (10/5): - Cosy and very lovely Cottage with lots of beautiful details to discover especially for our kid. Beautiful and relaxing environment. Loneliness and silence everywere. that we spend only one night and not more in the cosy cottage
- Rani (10/5): Pristine spot - I really enjoyed our stay at the Merino cottage, it was a charming place and so quiet, so pristine! Not only was the house in a beautiful remote spot but it was also beautiful inside and very comfortable.
The host provided everything we needed for a wonderful breakfast: farm eggs, milk, juice, bread and coffee.
Pip, our host, was absolutely lovely and very understanding. We had a last-minute setback with a cancelled flight, and she kindly allowed us an extra 30 minutes past checkout time to get organised. The tap water is reclaimed rainwater from the roof, better boil it!
A bit too far from everything
- Deborah (9/5): Go and stay at Merino Cottage for beauty, peace and solitude - Lovely big windows to enjoy the surrounding countryside and watch the sheep.
We enjoyed the selection of food provided for us in the fridge. Thank you.
It was good to have a dishwasher and laundry facilities plus games and good books.
It was great that there were kayaks, but unfortunately, the weather conditions were not suitable to go on the beautiful river. It would have been useful to have mirrors in the bedrooms and hooks behind the doors for coats/towels.
The shower water seemed to go everywhere.
- Angie (10/5): - The views were amazing, and the little extras made it very nice
- Macauley (10/5): Amazing, stunning stay. Highly reccomend - Beautiful, clean, lots of treats provided (port, hot chocolate, breakfast), stunning views, very comfortable, good amenities Access to the third bedroom (single bed in) is through one of the other bedrooms. Not a dealbreaker by any means but worth noting as may not be suitable for all groups.
(This isnt a complaint, the property is amazing and we loved our stay, but worth being aware of)
- Anthony (10/5): - Generous in leaving bread juice condiments and much more.firewood supplied. Kayaks and port. Trail mix. Good instructions to arrive without problems. Having to leave.
- Carol (10/5): Fantastic home in a beautiful location. - We loved this place. Beautiful location, great breakfast, comfy beds, lite fire waiting….we could have stayed for days!
- Belinda (10/5): Relaxing, peaceful and brilliant hospitality on a farm setting. - Fabulous setting on the lake. Every window had large views. It was perfect and clean great styling and the home made touches such as the fresh bread and homemade jam for breakfast. Plus a sneaky little port to be enjoyed by the open fire. Perfect! Didn’t get to stay long enough!
- Deborah (9/5): Amazing night away to get out of the city. - The views were incredible. Loved the sheep and wildlife. The woodfire was an added bonus. One nights stay was not long enough! I will be back. Nothing. All was amazing.
- Bonita (9/5): Beautiful rural property in lovely location - Lovely location!
- clare (10/5): -
- Chanin (10/5): - Lovely Cottage. Recommended none
- Richard (9/5): Superb -
- Len (9/5): Cozy, restful, charming country Cottage - Stayed in the middle of winter when blazing wood burner was fabulous as was the morning mist rising off Jones River in front of the Cottage and off Meadowbank Lake. The great country-style breakfast provided by the hosts was just the best way to start our day together with a walk around this serene property serenaded by sheep down to a private swimming hole. No wi-fi, but TV was O.K. and mobile phone reception very adequate. We also appreciated the eclectic Cottage art work, books, games, and pip's special little treat. Thanks Pip! While the was a wood burner, and various other electric heaters were comfortable enough, our suggestion would be that a heat pump would be a worthwhile addition for winter guests. Also we may have missed how far past Ellendale it was, but the distance from Ellendale to the turn off road would be good. We thought we must have gone past, but when we found it, the 6 kms of gravel was in good condition and no problem at all. Indeed the quiet, rural country setting couldn't be better for those seeking an escape from life's pressures.
- Jackie (9/5): Get away from it all (apart from the sheep!) - The propery is in a stunning rural location, on a sheep farm with amazing views of the river, lake and hills. It feels remote, but actually it isn't far from towns with shops and restaurants. It is accessed along a dirt road, but the road is of a good standard. This would be a great place to come with kids. They would love the outdoor space, the kayaks and the swimming pond/river. We are a bit too long in the tooth to appreciate them fully! Breakfast provisions were very generous and tasty and there were some added treats which we enjoyed. Wifi would have been helpful, but we had a good phone signal.
- Rochelle (10/5): Picturesque farmstay - Location and cosiness of the property
- Katharine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Frank (9/5): Superb - Great location. Warm and comfortable
- Wendy (9/5): A truly cosy cottage that had all we needed. Beautiful country location I - Loved the country location on the lake. Beautiful scenery, swimming hole and the property was comfy and welcoming. Nice decor and had everything we needed
- Bennetts (10/5): Beautiful place to stay, so much serenity. - The house was lovely, setting was lovely with the river & hills. We went for a walk down to see the river, beautiful place.
The house was very cosy, beds were comfortable. The breakfast was very generous. Didn't like the 6klms of dirt to reach the house, made me feel a bit isolated. It was a long way from town. I didn't see this information anywhere on Bookings.com when looking for accommodation.
- Kenneth (8/5): Brief but beautiful - The solitude Nothing
- Ilenia (9/5): Magical place - The view is magical at any time of the day.
We were so lucky to have beautiful sunny days and enjoying the kayaks in the creek every morning. You can see the merino sheeps & the ducks and refreshing in the water. Pip left us all sort of handmade food, local products & coffee. The outdoor patio made the breakfast time even more relaxing. Stargazing at night is a must! :)
The place is clean with all the facilities you need, coffee machine, bbq, laundry to make your stay super easy. A nice touch of vacation with flowers vase and matching towels. ❤️ I wish I could stay more!
Make sure to have water & grocery with you.
- Nadine (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect setting, welcoming, thoughtful and generous atmosphere.
- Belinda (10/5): Gorgeous host, exceptionally clean , tranquil - Owner organised for property to be left open. Nothing
- Elizabeth (8/5): Secluded rustic escape in rural Tasmania - The cottage is in a spectacular location, meant really for staying put and enjoying the scenery and recreation right outside the front porch. Pip is a warm and gracious host who is very responsive and accommodating. The cottage could benefit from a deep clean (crumbs, cobwebs, hairs) and some basic repairs like better securing and sealing doors, screens and windows. The location is down a long gravel road which is a consideration if your plan is to tour around the local area and do other activities.
- Simon (10/5): Just listen to the sheep :-) - Pip and team are great! It’s a wonderful Cottage I wish you can really forget about time and just enjoy the view and the sheep. The kids love paddling with the kayak, and go swimming in the river. A nice barbecue on the deck with a good glass of wine makes it unforgettable.
- Anne (9/5): Superb -
- Darren (9/5): Superb - The cottage is on a working farm and overlooking a river that is within walking distance.
Kayaking on the river in kayaks provided for guest use.
Cottage has all amenities and is comfortable.
The hosts are excellent and provided some unexpected snacks. It is a fairly long drive from the cottage to visit the surrounding attractions (25 to 100km one way drives to mountains, hydroelectric lakes, forrest and waterfall attractions).
- Bradley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Theresa (10/5): Too brief would defi nity stay again - How peaceful and clean it was
- Kaye (8/5): Very good - Loved this place. Have to access via a few kms of dirt driveway, but it was worth it. Very comfortable and quaint. Hostess has added lots of extra touches to make it feel welcoming and quaint. Bread and jam and a complimentary gin and tonic to name a few. The cottage yard is surrounded by sheep which we loved and it backs onto a large creek/ river which was beautiful. Loved our stay.
- Jody (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect setting that was relaxing and comfortable. We loved all the little touches like the breakfast and coffee to make the stay extra special!
- Anita (10/5): Tranquil and lots of attention to detail - The remoteness and the setting was great.
- Sidonie (8/5): A wonderful warm and generous country cottage in a tranquil setting - It’s location in a sheep paddock on the river. So beautiful and peaceful.
- Phoebe (10/5): Beautiful - The cottage was just lovely. Beautiful setting, and all the little touches from the fresh flowers, homemade cookies and even the bit of local gin was just so nice. The kids jumped out of the car and were in the kayaks within 10min having a blast, whereas the adults were mesmerised by the view with a cuppa. Thanks! Only wish we were visiting for longer!
- Kellie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (10/5): What about the serenity? - The location and picture windows are amazing. The sheep are pretty cute too.
- Chelsi (10/5): Pure relaxation and beauty - EVERYTHING! It was absolutely incredible! Nothing at all!
- Trish (10/5): Perfect. - The cottage was comfortable clean and homely, the location was quiet, picturesque, tranquil and exactly what we wanted. Pip made sure we had fresh milk like we use to get long ago, fresh made bread and fresh flowers on the table. Perfect. We couldn’t stay longer.
- Yingchenzi (10/5): Stunning views and the fireplace made for a truly enjoyable experience. You must try this place for your holiday—it will - The fireplace!Warming and amazing, get relaxed with that.
- Aashish (10/5): Exceptional -
- Annette (10/5): Beautiful little gem - The view was exceptional. Pip was very helpful with the directions to the property. Gorgeous little place to stay. We'd only wished we had stayed longer!
- Kate (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amy (10/5): Exceptional - Location, serenity, little house touches were perfect.
- Gaelle (10/5): Wonderful cottage in the middle of nature with friendly host - We enjoy the amazing countryside and landscapes around the cottage. The cottage itself is warm, comfortable and cozy with all what we needed to feel welcome. The breakfast prepared was delicious. In the day we could see sheep and lambs and at dusk a few walibis and kangaroos jumping around We wished we could have stayed longer
- Teegan (7/5): Good -
- Karen (9/5): A piece of paradise on a working farm - Merino Cottage Meadowbank Lake is a destination and sanctuary. Driving through the merino farm to get to the Cottage was a wonderful experience. There is plenty of heaters and extra blankets, a TV, books and games to enjoy. We arrived to a lovely warm house equipped with fresh milk, orange juice, a variety of cereals, bread and condiments. The pantry also had extra condiments which is great when you are travelling as this property is on a working farm so not near shops. We had the most restful and relaxing stay. Only a few weeks before our April stay, people had visited who swam in the nearby waterhole! We really appreciated having a washing machine and dryer available, as we were moving around Tasmania and not always had those facilities. PIP is a great host & we loved meeting her and hearing about the history of the farm and her family’s connection to the area. All in all, this is a fabulous place to stay. Nothing. We loved our stay.
- Bakowski (10/5): Stunning place in the gorgeous countryside. - Beautiful house in breathtaking scenery. Merino Cottage is so gorgeous and cosy with wood fireplace set up by Pip upon our arrival. We appreciate the thoughtful breakfast provisions, the home made raspberry jam was so delicious that we eaten all. We enjoyed walking down the paddock to the river and boat ramp and looked at passing sheep's was a great experience for us. Highly recommended!!! That our itinerary allowed us just one night stay.
- Xibei (10/5): wonderful Tassie countryside experience - fireplace and the view you have while enjoying the fireplace is the best. it’s also the reason we booked it in the first place. it’s exactly as we expected. very satisfied. Pip is very tentative, giving us all the information we needed. I also like all the warm touches in the house, like homemade jam, the breakfast table, the self-fixed thus rustic looking mocha pot (makes great coffee). The deco of the place is also to our taste. All the ideas are well executed. We came here for my birthday. We had a great time.
- Jane (10/5): Having made a last-minute booking, our expectations were low - but what a fantastic place this was! - Completely isolated beside a babbling brook and surrounded by sheep-filled fields, this place was AMAZING! We'd like to move in permanently please! Three bedrooms (we only needed one) and every comfort taken care of. It was really snug in the evening to strike a match to light the wood burner. We woke up to the sounds of birds and sheep and couldn't have been happier. Thanks so much for a brilliant stay! We highly recommend this place as a rural getaway with peace, wildlife, views and a smart and well equipped interior!
- Ben (10/5): Exceptional - Awesome location, beautiful settings and great little house Only thing I would suggest is a few more visible signs to let you know your on track. But directions that were given were great
- Bronwen (10/5): Pip’s instructions were clear and we found it easy to find the house and loved the feeling of homeliness as soon as we s - Peace and quiet, expansive views, spacious living, every comfort, lovely host who wrote a welcome note and called in before we left, amazing breakfast of farm goodies … and much more Really can’t find anything
- Poh (9/5): Superb - The accomodation is great. Clean & beautiful. Only problem was the water kettle didnt work.
- David (9/5): Superb -
