Guest Reviews
- Seth (10/5): - The serenity of the environment and the host came to check up to make sure everything was okay, it's a return for me anytime I'm in the cornwall area Honestly nothing to say as everything was clean and welcoming

- Margaret (8/5): A nice clean property in lovely surroundings. - A lovely clean property in which the owner provides you with a lot of what you need for a break away such as coffees, teas etc. it also has a well stocked bathroom with shower products and shampoos/conditioner in situ. Noise from the adjoining property is quite noticeable, also night trips to the bathroom needs a light as the stairs to it from the bedroom are narrow and dark, a small light would be useful at the bottom of the stairs.
- ben (10/5): Amazing - Just a really nice place to stay. The facilities were 10/10, the cottage was just amazing.
- gary (10/5): definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a lovely break - Lovely cottage will definitely stay again
- Julie (9/5): Enjoyed our stay in a nice property in a beautiful location ideal for short stays - Beautiful location Could hear lots of movement from adjoining property only separated by a door
Only had one mug on arrival so had to take it in turns to make a hot drink
No cork screw either
We rang the owner to ask if he could replace them which he could the following day
- Andy (1/5): Absolutely appalling do not book this properly - Didn’t even get chance to stay as I was locked out of the property and did not receive a refund The host was ignorant and rude
- Sandy (10/5): -
- Ginny Heffernan (3/5): A remote and scruffy barn conversion lacking cooking facilities - The bathroom is recently fitted and is smart and mostly clean. The barn is in a rural quiet location, which some may prefer. (This was spoilt during my stay however by the owner's son in the adjoining barn who has an annoying habit of banging on the adjoining wall for some reason, plus the concrete yard behind both barns was regularly used for evening football practice.)
The owner was polite and responded promptly to requests for assistance (other than refusing to help defrost the frozen-up fridge freezer.)
The owner agreed calmly to give me a refund when I explained my disappointment with lack of kitchen and bed comfort and arrangements; however he did not inform me that he had cancelled my booking with Booking.com within minutes of our conversation, before I had any chance to ensure I had alternative accommodation sorted. This did cause me great stress having 24 hours to find somewhere else. Barn very isolated with no other buildings within walking or cycling distance due to very narrow lanes too dangerous to walk down. Barn itself was described as having a kitchen, but there is no oven or hob. Only an unusual microwave (instructions finally sent days later) and a strange graveyard of old appliances e.g. air fryer, steamer, foreman grill, toasted sandwich maker etc. No pans, utensils, board etc.
Wifi was so poor that Smart TV would not work and WhatsApp struggled with phone calls. No phone signal. Dirty carpet was apparently due to previous tenants (no surprise) but apparently his cleaner has no carpet cleaning tools.
The "delightful garden" was nowhere to be found despite asking for directions - certainly nowhere near the barn if it exists.
The fridge on arrival was running constantly due to freezer compartment being totally frozen up so that its door could not close. I asked for it to be defrosted but owner not willing - he did give me a drip tray and wooden tool so I could defrost it myself. (A thankyou would have been nice as I spent 2 hours on the task on my first night.)
Bedroom - created in steep roof space, with no vertical walls and no flat ceiling. Hence very little full headroom. Bed is set sideways squeezed between sloping walls, so only way to reach far end of the bed requires one person to climb over the other person. Or planned choreography. Bed is large but mattress old and probably never/rarely turned - the springs are visible through the sheet and feel very noticeable on the side you can actually get in to.
My discussions with the owner about these issues were polite and measured and the Owner responded reasonably - BUT - cancelling my booking before I had found any alternative, however, was unexpected and stressful.
Photos show panel falling off understairs over kitchenette; frozen f/f; and bed access issue.
- Lee (10/5): Absolutely perfect and can’t wait to come back - Everything, it was absolutely amazing. It was everything we could wish for and more. Thank you Gerald! The neighbours were a bit loud but it was something and nothing in the grand scheme of things
- pamela (10/5): - Was very accommodating when I got our leaving days mixed up. Gave us another hour to finish packing . The stairs were not to wide as hand rail ate into the stair width
- Wendy (8/5): peaceful stay would recommend - Loved the location and the quirky building. It was easy to get into the building. Nice selection of bits in the house. Lots of water in the fridge and toast some bread. Lots of good information ahead of my arrival. I didn't see a way to boil a pan or fry an egg. I suspect cooking in the space was not to be encouraged although I managed to scramble an egg in the microwave.
- Julian (10/5): -
- Michelle (7/5): Lovely property on a whole. We had an enjoyable enough stay, getting away for our wedding anniversary. Area is lovely an - Lovely and clean. Bathroom was lovely and well stocked. Loved the fact that they had dvds you could watch and a vinyl record player up in the bedroom. Kitchen facilities. A proper stove or oven would have been lovely so that we could have prepared our own food properly. Used their George Forman grill for the first time in my life which was fine but not ideal. It set off smoke alarm twice.
- Olga (10/5): Excellent stay - Nice, cosy and stylish cottage in a quiet and picturesque location. Very conveniently situated if you are keen to explore the nearby parts of Cornwall. Saltash with plenty of shops and cafe/restaurants are just 10-12min away by car.
The cottage is easy to find and the owners are super welcoming and reply to messages within minutes. Best recommendations if you want a genuine English village accommodation with a style. N/a
- Jephet (8/5): - No cooker
- Mark (8/5): great stay at an amazing price - Great location (if driving) most of cornwall within an hour drive, Unbelievable amount of extras (all toiletries if you forgot anything), comfy bed, sofa, good wifi, Amazing price Nit picking but maybe too much furniture
- Craig (10/5): Very good - The cottage was lovely and had toilets and cleaning items to hand was really clean had a good homely feeling and a nice space for a couple would deffo go back Just there wasn't no cooking items like air flyer as there wasn't cooker there so couldn't really cook thats the only dispointing thing
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional - Quiet and clean
- Divina (9/5): Cute cottage. Complete with everything we needed. - Cosy and cute cottage. Nothing
- Lisa (5/5): Passable -
- Worthington (8/5): Very good - Very quiet and picturesque All was good
- Miriam (8/5): Nice quiet property - Clean and nice The position of the bed meant you can only get out on one side, which lead to midnight acrobatics. There is no hob or oven available
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (8/5): Very good - Quite No oven
- Deirdre (10/5): Lovely Accommodation - My host Gerald was welcoming, friendly, attentive, and helpful.
The bathroom is fully tiled with all necessary accessories.
A modern power shower.. with a switch just outside the bathroom door on the right.
A large bedroom with a comfortable king-sized bed,
lots of hangers and a music system with a selection of cds and records
A comfortable living room with freeview tv and a well equipped kitchen.
In a lovely countryside location close to.. Saltash and 1/2 hour drive to ..
Tregrehan Gardens..
The Eden Project
Looe.. Polperro.
Bus links from Saltash to Plymouth city centre A few adjustments were needed in the kitchen to make it a more practical working space.
I recommended them to Gerald, who thanked me and will take them on board. Gerald is enthusiastic about his project and eager to help his guests have .. the best .. experience possible. He will do his best to listen to advice from guests and make any readjustments.
- Sandra (7/5): Good - I liked the very extensive comfort pack - everything you could possibly need and more For me, the bed would benefit from a mattress topper
The signal for the TV channels was poor and I couldn’t watch the film I liked (I was too tired each night to report it. I’m sure the host could have sorted it if I did
The walls were very thin and I could easily hear the young family next door
A small oven instead of a microwave would have been better, and a standalone ring hob would have been useful (although there was limited space for the latter)
A chopping board would mean not damaging work surfaces and coasters to protect surfaces
- Craig (9/5): Superb -
- Helen (9/5): Superb -
- Leefern (3/5): Poor - The lounge was okay The fact the kitchen had no oven
- Madz (10/5): Great quaint location in clean and cozy property. - Very clean and cozy. Lots of facilities and plenty of condiments, friendly and accessible owner.
- Stone (10/5): Exceptional - Peaceful surroundings. Everything was thought about, including all toiletries, tea and coffee, and even snacks. We were left alone to enjoy our stay, but they were always available for queries The mattress wasn't as comfy as our own
- Stephen (10/5): A little gem of a place - Very clean, cosy and comfortable.
Owners attention to detail is exceptional, toiletries and snacks provided.
- Chris (5/5): Passable -
- Malcolm (10/5): brilliant loverly and perfect - it was great loverly place , nice peacefull and out of the way and nice country side will go again 100% mmmmmmm may be a washing machine but thats all
- Jacqueline (8/5): For a business trip it was a peaceful, good value alternative to hotels - Very peaceful setting, friendly owners, the huge bedroom with record & cd players made a lovely bonus hangout space. The outside space was a bit difficult to access.
- Ferenc (8/5): Very good - The location is excellent. Very quiet.
It was super clean and tidy. Noise electric heater.
- Robert (5/5): Passable -
- David (9/5): Superb - Great location very quiet surroundings
- Jon (9/5): Superb -
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Jeffrey (10/5): Brilliant 6 nights stay near Saltash - A great space with everything needed. Super quiet at night. Gerald has thought of everything that guests would need, just like being at home with all appliances to cook your own evening meals and breakfast. Close to Plymouth and Saltash, but away from the crowds in a very rural setting. We are more than happy with our stay at De- Vollard. Nothing we didn't like, it was perfect.
- Melanie (7/5): Good- remote quiet location - Cleanliness, polite hosts, value for money Stairs very steep and narrow, would be an issue for some people .
No view , courtyard is 6ft x 6ft with a 6ft fence 😞
Over furnished , miss match of modern and old , sofa is too large for room, too many kitchen appliances leaving no space/ surface to prepare anything (2 x coffee machines not needed as the filter coffee or coffee pods are not provided) . very steep and narrow stairs
- Sarah (8/5): Very pleasant rural location and comfortable accommodation. Great parking available. - Generously stocked with lots of extras designed to make the stay more comfortable. Some difficulty getting in on arrival but sorted with a phone call.
- Paul (8/5): A great couple of days away ! - Great location, a very nice shower with lots of extras if needed in bathroom, well equipped kitchen, perfect for my visit to the area Bit of confusion on exactly where to go on arrival and meet to get keys
- Foy (4/5): Disappointing. - Bathroom was well stocked. No mattress protector not good hygiene, also mattress buttons poked through so uncomfortable. Smart TV only good if you have all your own apps however WiFi kept cutting out.
Kitchen had so many gadgets but basics like bowls and knives missing. Host was annoyed with us for asking for these items.
- Stephen (9/5): Superb - Nice cosy cottage in a quiet area, really well equipped, easy interactions with the host.
- Scott (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful host and amazing property with all mod cons, definitely will return
- Simmone (9/5): A lovely stay. - I got caught in traffic on the way down and the host was kind enough to wait for us and let us in. Th place was clean, and really comfortable. They had an lots of appliances including an airfryer, and a fridge stocked with water, strawberries and Prosecco! The wifi was down for the entire stay, but we were given a partial refund to reflect this!
- Rebecca (10/5): Met by the host Gerald.. the accommodation, cleanliness, facilities absolutely everything is perfection personified - Absolutely everything
- Lucy (9/5): Clean, Fully Equipped, Highly Recommended. - Fully equipped with absolutely everything you’d need for a night away. (From speakers to tea and coffee to brand new shower caps and toothbrushes). Friendly and accommodating host! Only thing we can say is, when booking a taxi it’s hard to describe where we were. A pin drop on google maps would be helpful.
We also couldn’t access any outside seating area :(
- Judith (9/5): Excellent value, beautiful location and we will definitely be going back again!! - The property is is a lovely quiet location with easy access to the main roads. The property was very well equipped and there were lots of extra touches like biscuits and wine. A lot of care had been taken to make our stay very comfortable.
- Bjtraveller (10/5): Fully equipped - The accommodation was beyond fully equipped, everything you could hope for including basic herbs and spices! Bathroom again had everything including shaving foam and razors! Exceptionally clean The stairs to the sleeping area are quite steep and a bit narrow.
- Dawn (10/5): Wonderful stay - Absolutely perfect for my short stay, great location. Fully equipped with everything you could possibly need.
- Aneta (9/5): Summer 2024 - Nice and quiet area with responsible distance to the lovely beaches. Sofa could be more comfortable.
- Allan (7/5): Good -
- Jayne (9/5): Lovely quiet place . Host very welcoming . Lots of extra effort , bottled water , soap and shower caps . Tv is run via W - Peaceful . Well equipped . Private . Nothing
- Antony (10/5): Nice stay - Very nice and quiet area.
- Sheila (9/5): Superb -
- Cumberland (10/5): Very comfortable cottage, and our host was a very friendly, helpful man - We didn't have breakfast, but we did like the extra complimentary touches, biscuits, chocolates, bottles of mineral water, and an assortment of toiletries, which always comes in handy We would have liked some milk for our cup of tea in the morning.
- Gordon (9/5): Superb -
