Guest Reviews
- Nigel (8/5): Great location comfortable. - Great location. Rooms were a bit warm at night and there is no aircon or fans. This was in the cooler season so not sure about in the hotter months.
Staff were superb, but food was average. Food was average.

- Brendan (9/5): The Sopa lodge in Tarangire was a wonderful place to include in a Safari trip. - The meals at the property were excellent. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating.
- Diana (1/5): If you don’t want bats in your room, sweat all night due to lack of AC and get scammed - pls avoid - Warm and friendly staff. From our personal experience, it’s much better to stay in Arusha and visit Tarangire as a day trip rather than staying overnight in Tarangire. There aren’t many animals to see apart from elephants, and one day is more than enough to experience the park. We stayed two nights, which felt excessive for what the park offers Avoid at all costs. Serious safety, comfort, and scam issues. This hotel has two major problems: bats in the rooms and no AC.
1) Bats in the room - we had 3 (yes, three!) small bats flying inside our room and asked to relocate to another room late in the evening, which was an unpleasant experience.
2) No AC in all rooms / unbearable heat. The hotel will offer fans, but they are completely useless because the rooms are designed with no proper air circulation. During the day, it is unbearably hot - staying inside feels like a sauna. Even at night, when the outside temp. becomes cooler, the rooms remain extremely hot. Sleeping is nearly impossible.
Also there are no phones in the rooms, so if something goes wrong (like bats flying around), you cannot call reception. Instead, you are forced to walk outside at night to the reception desk to ask for help.
3) Refund issues and misleading behaviour.
After the bat incident, we wanted to check out one day early and requested a refund. We came to the reception desk at 6am, but the manager told us they could not process a refund because the booking was made via Booking.com, and that they won't get approval from Booking.com. This is a lie - refund approval depends on the hotel, not Booking.com. Then we were told the reservation team needed approval from senior mgt. We followed up multiple times but never received a response, and couldn't check out that day.
When we escalated the issue to Booking.com, the hotel responded by saying that we "chose to stay the second night and participated in game drives activities” therefore making us ineligible for a refund.
This is misleading: We only stayed because we were waiting for written confirmation (since 6am!) that the second night would be refunded (which we never received) and wanted to avoid checking out without clarity. The game drive was booked separately with another company and has nothing to do with hotel.
- Thisari (10/5): An unforgettable stay, exceeded our expectations! - Our stay at Tarangire Sopa Lodge was absolutely incredible. The room was amazing, beautifully decorated, spotless, and super comfortable, with perfect temperature and thoughtful turndown service every evening.
The staff went above and beyond to make us feel special for our honeymoon. Every single person we met was warm, genuine, and attentive. We truly felt cared for.
The food was five star quality. The chef was fantastic, and the wait staff were equally wonderful. The dining area itself is beautifully lit, spacious, and offers a stunning view in the mornings for breakfast. We loved the variety and freshness of the buffet, and even got a surprise serenade at dinner, which made the night unforgettable.
Honestly, the vibe of this lodge far exceeds what the photos online show. The pictures on Booking.com don’t do it justice at all; it’s far more beautiful, welcoming, and luxurious in person.
This was a truly wonderful experience in every way. We only wish we had known how amazing it would be, because we would have stayed longer. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Tarangire.

Sehr kleinlich!!!
- Aijing (10/5): - We love the property. Staffs are super nice. The food was great!!!
- Anje (9/5): Best place we’ve ever stayed at - Everything. From the staff to the room and the food, it was a dream. Better than expected. There was miscommunication around the lunchbox. Everyone told us we would get one for the next day, then when we wanted to collect, they said it wasn’t included. Overall, it’s incredibly expensive.
- Ndegwa (6/5): Facility with good potential but little value adds. - Spacious rooms and lounge to relax The food offering could have been better.
- Usman (10/5): -
- Maxine (8/5): Beautiful place, amazing staff - The top 3 attractions of this lovely place are the staff and of course the national park. Almost all staff were very warm, friendly, attentive and professional. Special shout out to chef Hamaadi who was so professional, funny, helpful and kind each day , catering to my specific dietary requirements . Also to Pelagia who served us in the restaurant and was so attentive.
Secondly the surroundings . Tarangire National Park is so wonderful. We decided to self drive and it was an amazing experience. In our 3 days we saw: a lion, so many beautiful elephants and giraffes , variety of different antelopes, warthogs, ostrich , beautiful birds and magnificent boab trees.
Also, lovely, comfortable suites. Very poor communication before we arrived. Our domestic flight to Arusha was cancelled and we had to get a much later flight to Kilimanjaro, setting us back 5 hours to pick up our hire car to drive to Sopa Lodge. Would we still be able to get into the National Park to get to the lodge? We emailed twice, messaged twice , WhatsApp twice, rang numerous times ( no answer)and no response to anything. We were left stranded in Arusha and missed a day and night of our 4 day stay. No one checked on us or even enquired about our wellbeing. This is so different to the Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge. They had amazing communication and customer care and was one of the main reasons we selected another Sopa Lodge
- Reena (10/5): Beautiful place to stay. Wonderful staff. 5 stars!! - Everything was perfect at Sopa Lodge.
I had many questions for them before we went and they were responsive & very helpful each time.
It’s a beautiful place to stay and the staff are so friendly and helpful.
I would definitely recommend Sopa Lodge and will be returning again.
- Emma (8/5): Very nice -
- Stephen (3/5): A superb location but the accommodation was poor value for money. - The staff were very friendly and helpful. The view from our balcony often included elephants, impala and even Eland. The location in the park was excellent. Be aware that the Park charges an extra fee, on top of the entry fee, for staying overnight. The combined Park fee for two people was about 500,000 shillings a day. (About $200)
The rooms were like ovens. The entry for our room on Booking.com said there was air conditioning but none of the rooms were air conditioned.
The rooms were dark and the ceiling fans were inadequate.
The pool was seductive but on entry it is apparent that half of it is only 15cm deep. There was a bee's nest in part of the pool where there were broken tiles. The pool attendant was informed but said the bees were harmless and protected because it was National Park. My wife was stung on the finger while swimming. Either the bees should have been removed or the pool closed.
The WiFi was only fully available in the reception area. It was poor in the pool area and non-existent in the rooms.
The meals were average at best, especially when this was such expensive accommodation.
- Ambra (10/5): Perfect! - Right in the national park
Its really suggestive in the night they will attend you from the room to the lobby restaurant etc.
Spacious room
Spacious bathroom
Nice evening time with exhibation and good options of food.
Swimming pool.
- Graham (9/5): We had a good stay here food and pool were excellent but the lodge should do something to provide cooler bedrooms and im - The pool and the fact that the lodge is right in the park. The food was exceptional! Excellent chef The whole lodge is a modern building but it has no air conditioning. Tarangire is often hot and the bedroom tho a fan was provided was very hot which made sleeping difficult
- Johan (8/5): Very good - Nice location, big and clean rooms, friendly and helpfull staff The food was average, we expected better
- Fiona (9/5): Superb - Beautiful place to stay Nothing much
- Jessica (10/5): Beautiful lodge full of wildlife and wonderful people - Wow! This place exceeded any expectations I had. Blown away by the beauty of the location, getting to see so many animals right at the property including dozens of monkeys and adorable rock hyraxes. The price is beyond reasonable- honestly think it is nicer than places 3 times as much. Everything worked well and my room was so comfortable and beautiful. The food was FANTASTIC. Maybe best of my trip, mostly owing to the kind and flexible chef, Hamadi. I have so many dietary restrictions and he made food that not only I could eat, but that was delicious. I promise, this is not an easy task. He also personally asked me daily about my preferences. But, raeally everyone was so nice. Cristina, the manager, and Also Elizabeth stood out- but wish could remember everyone. I am very, very grateful to have stayed here and can't recommend is any more highly. Also, tarangire is a beautiful park.
- Donw (10/5): Fantastic! - I very rarely give places a 10. Sopa Lodge Tarangire is clearly a 10. Great location in the park, large well-equipped rooms, delicious food, incredible staff and service. My whole 3 days at Sopa and Tarangire NP was a bit of a spurge for me, but was fantastic. I highly recommend. My only issue: since Sopa does not do safaris or transportation to the lodge, they referred me to to Stephen Arwa. Arwa and I negotiated a price for my desired itinerary. I find out the day before departure that Arwa is in fact in Kenya and he has transferred the business to a Kili Beyond in Arusha. 15 minutes before departure, Kili Beyond informed me they would not honor my deal with Arwa and increased the price; I fought back, but they got a little bit more out of me. So my advice is deal with a local provider in Arusha, not Arwa or Kili Beyond.
- Jane (6/5): Pleasant - Tired lodge in need of a refresh. Terrible value for money.
- Sebelina (9/5): Beautiful lodge with amazing swimming pool - Beautiful lodge with amazing swimming pool. The individual rooms were very spacious. The main building is beautifully decorated where great meals are served. During dinner the staff performed african songs.
- Rachael (10/5): An amazing safari experience with our children, Sopa lodge was a great base to relax and recharge - Fab location, good atmosphere, friendly staff good food, varied menu
- Rafael (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing lodge. The facilities are great, the staff is incredible, the location is unbelievable. Loved it!
- Michael (10/5): Exceptionally great and an experience of a life time - Food, environment, the stuff was super exceptional. Nothing
- Leticia (10/5): The best in all ways, of what one expects to be, even more, and Liberia and Ako made us feel like this - Everything, the nice friendly staff, the excellent food, room
- Philip (9/5): Superb -
- Lena (9/5): Lovely stay - Great spot to start your Safari adventure, very nice people, always keen to help, spacious and comfortable room (every night they come and spray something against the mosquitoes). We enjoyed our time a lot. Being super picky: the food was sometimes a bit dry.
- Beatrice (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fearon (10/5): A perfect jewel in an incredible part of the world - The hotel is incredibly located within the national park perched within the top of a gorge, it has incredible views of birds flying in the gorge from the bar and restaurant. It’s also perfect for game drives as you are already in the park. The food was brilliant, the staff were super friendly and helpful. Everything was easy, from dietary requirements to laundry to early breakfast boxes. I can’t think of anything I didn’t like.
- Jacqueline (8/5): Great stay in Tarangire ! - We liked the location, the rooms are nice and big and the restaurant was very well situated and the staff well trained. We liked the food and also the drinks at the bar ! Can recommend it
- Brian (6/5): We stayed at other hotels that were better value for money - Breakfast was good Check in was annoying
- Karol (9/5): Superb -
- Harry (8/5): Very good - Ideally located for game drives. Staff very helpful and friendly. It’s about an hour from main gate but great game viewing on the way. Tsetse flies are a great problem in the park.
- Roberto (9/5): Superb -
- Sean (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ethel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Juan (8/5): Very good -
