Guest Reviews
- Lorraine HELEN (9/5): Great value, location....exactly what I needed. - Lovely quiet area, peaceful. House was a beautiful little cottage and parking was easy. My dogs were happy too and they were obviously welcome which was great. Found it easily from the description given by the host. Would have been nice if there was a cupboard or draws for the bunk bedded rooms guest to use. There were cobwebs in the lounge on the wall. The bathroom needs a grab rail for getting in and out of the bath. A new toilet brush, bath mat and shower curtains a must. Also some extra attention to dusting in the bathroom would have been nice.
- Andrea (10/5): - The cottage itself was warm and welcoming, a home from home, a true gem.
The location is packed with walks to explore, so much history and a pure natural beauty. If you want a space to find peace and enjoy the beauty surrounding this cottage, then this is the place
The locals are friendly, there is a pub called The Greyhound, just round the corner, walking distance, hikers galore, and a short drive to Carlisle to explore the Castle, Cathedral and city itself.
The host is always on hand should you need anything at all
I have thoroughly enjoyed my solo trip, with Dam, my dog, explored, found peace, and reconnected with nature.
I would highly recommend this cottage and location, I will definitely be revisting
- Karen (9/5): Burgh By Sand.Station Road Cottage - Beautiful little cottage located in quiet village. Bedding and towels smelled wonderful...will have to find out what detergent were used.
Had everything needed.. Excellent value for money. The Greyhound Inn within 5 minutes walk serving good food. My only issue was the washer/dryer....may have been me , but wouldn't dry...I did Google instructions. However clothes horse available.
- O'Neill (9/5): Warm cosy and welcoming - Really cosy, clean and welcoming. Very nicely renovated. Back yard could have had a spruce up and a comfy chair added to the living room but these did not detract from how lovely the cottage is.
- Ronald (8/5): Very good - It was very good and very clean Pub next door only open till 9 pm
- Andrea_84y (10/5): Exceptional - The cottage was beautiful and had everything anyone could need for a comfortable stay. There was a damp smell in the cottage
- Anonymous (9/5): Good value for money, very nice cottage. - Very nice cottage, comfortable The only issue was lack of parking space, we had to park on the street because there was not enough space to park the car but that was not big issue after all :-)
- Lynsey (4/5): Disappointed and not somewhere I’d recommend. The first time I’ve ever said that!! - The WiFi was good and the mattress was comfortable The owners / managers were unhelpful whilst they imagined they were. There is very little signal in the village and none in the street the cottage is on. Luckily I took screenshots of the directions (as it isn’t easy to find via the postcode) and the key safe code as I was unable to call the owner / manager. I had to drive around to call the owner to discuss parking as the lay-by along from the property was full (as building works were getting carried out directly across from the cottage and the lay-by was full of building materials, a JCB (and the mud mess it has left behind that can’t be parked on) and works vans. She suggested parking on the main road which was quite a distance from the property.
The property was supposed to be a cottage in a lovely quiet village, which was unfortunately not the case due to the building works. The workmen were playing very loud music all day and into the night. On the Friday evening they parked a scaffolding truck in the lane right across the front door of the cottage and were not only noisy but as they loaded the truck they were staring in the living room windows and we had to close the curtains despite it being only 6pm. As noted above they also took up all the lay-by parking. When the owner / manager was advised she suggested we leave and go home!!!
The cottage had a LOT of dead flies on the window ledges and lots of live spiders.
The over bath shower was difficult to regulate re temperature. Once the temperature was set whilst showering it was go freezing cold and really hot without touching the taps. Which was a shame as the water pressure was very good. Often an issue when I stay away from home.
For a 2 bed cottage for arguably 4 people the sofa was tiny. Luckily it was only 2 of us but it was still a tight squeeze.
The trees outside had literally hundreds of screaming birds in them which was like something out of a horror movie.
- Jane (7/5): We like Burgh and its surroundings - location Strong smell of dogs and rather a lot of flies
Shower not fit for elderly people
- Jennifer (10/5): Wow what a great little place - What a stunning place, a home from home. The hosts have made it so you don't need to worry about anything which is amazing, kitchen was well equipped and the court yard was very secure for your furry friend.
The cottage is clean and has a homely feel to it, and the beds were very comfortable.
I had a very small issue with the hairdryer, I mention it to the host and within 2hrs of me sending the message, they came with a new hairdryer.
If I do go that way again I would definitely stay here again The only comment would be just for a couple of hand towels for the bathroom
- Resyl (7/5): Good -
- Christine (8/5): Very good -
- Anna (10/5): Very lovely place ☺️ - Very spacious cottage, got everything you need for your stay. Lovely hosts.
- Sonia (10/5): Family Cumbria Holiday - Hosts provided everything we needed, a real home from home, even WiFi and smart TV, to the relief of our son! Perfect location for exploring Cumbria. Local pub with friendly locals. Our stay was too short!
- Dorothy (8/5): Short break with dog. - Location is great for us walking our dog, and the local pub (Greyhound Inn) is very friendly with good basic pub grub. The cottage is quaint and cosy but didn't get on well with the bed or shower setup. Could do with some oven trays.
- Julie (10/5): Perfectly fitted the description -
- Cunningham (8/5): Very good -
- David (10/5): Exceptional - Really lovely house, very well cleaned & had everything we needed. Would definitely recommend. Nowt, there were no problems whatsoever.
- Heather (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (9/5): Ideal base to explore the Solway coast - Delightful cosy cottage on the Solway Coast road, good starting-point to explore this beautiful and unspoilt area. Warm, comfortable, quiet, excellent bed, nice large bathroom, good hob in self-contained kitchen with large fridge/freezer, good TV, selection of books, supplies of milk etc., nice towels. Highly recommended. No real downsides. Shower slightly temperamental. Selection of pots and pans in kitchen but if you need a large one, take your own. Might be advisable to park next to the cottage (can just fit in without obstructing neighbour) as parking across the road under the trees may leave the car spattered by rooks (!)
- Martyn (9/5): Superb - Great location and cosy well equipped cottage.Welcome bottle of wine and snacks appreciated. A fire in the lounge in the evening would have added to overall comfort /cosiness during cooler nights but not really a problem as heating was adequate .
- Sharon (10/5): Lovely peaceful break - just what we needed. - Fantastic location, lovely and peaceful. The cottage is well fitted out, spotlessly clean and very comfortable.
The host was very helpful and provided all the information we needed to find the cottage, with useful information for the property and surrounding area.
The village is a handy starting point for exploring the surrounding area, whether on foot, by bike or by car and the local pub is just a short walk away. Plenty of dog walks from the door too. Only thing I didn't like was having to go home at the end of my stay
- David (8/5): Well located cottage for touring Cumbria and beyond. Quaint, quiet and comfortable once warmed up. - Quaint and tastefully decorated traditional country cottage in a safe and quiet area.
Plenty of space inside for a small family, so good value for money.
I slept well as it was very quiet at night and the bed was extremely comfortable. An extra blanket was available.
Large bright kitchen with an excellent fast electric cooker.
Large attractive bathroom with plenty of hot water.
Close to Carlisle for shops and amenities.
Well situated for driving/riding to the Lakes, the North York Moors and the Scottish Southern Uplands as it is centrally located for all 3 areas of outstanding natural beauty. Best of all - in October the Lake District is much quieter!
Thank you for the bottle of wine and milk upon arrival. The cottage was chilly on arrival and it took a couple of evenings to warm up as the central heating thermostat was set low and there was no additional form of heating. Once heat had built up it was fine as long as all the interior doors were kept closed. There is no open fire in the lounge - it is decorative only.
The parking is limited - it is impossible to park outside the front of the house as the neighbours need to use the same narrow access road.
Dark evergreens at the front of the house (with crows in residence) create deposits by the morning if you park under the trees. I ended up parking my motorbike on the main road footpath, some distance away from the cottage, as one morning I found it covered in crows' urine and feathers!
- Iris (9/5): An enjoyable weekend in a lovely cottage. A very friendly and interesting village. - The cottage was quaint and well equipped and had alot of character. Louise was extremely helpful. The location was good and the village a nice place to stay. A small point, the living room furniture wasn't very comfortable. However this did not spoil our stay.
- Joseph (9/5): Would happily rebook. - Clean and tidy.
Ample facilities in the kitchen.
great location for site seeing. Bed didn't suit us as we have back problems, (not the owners fault.)
Chairs in the living room same problem, (Not the owners fault.)
- Jonathan (10/5): Lovely cosy country cottage - The location was excellent for exploring the countryside and coast. Close to city of Carlisle for shopping and sightseeing. The cottage was cosy and warm. Very clean and all the appliances and utensils need for a stay.
- Ingrid-maria (8/5): Very good -
- Helena (9/5): Visited Gretna & had a lovely day out , a lot there to see & do & just 6 mile away from cottage. - Everything you could need was there, extra blankets as was not summer weather, relaxing place to sit, table for having meals , very clean & tidy. Nothing comes to mind we were having a relaxing & chilling out few days. Lovely cottage & slept great .
- Jean (7/5): Very satisfactory for both myself and my dog - Location was good for where I wanted to visit. It was lovely and peaceful at the cottage. Nothing needed to be improved. I have a phobia about water and plumbing, so I prefer very modern toilets and showers, but that was a personal problem for me, the facilities were in keeping with the property.
- Nicky (10/5): Exceptional - Close to carlisle and Gretna
- Syed (9/5): Superb -
- Joseph (9/5): Superb - Overall, the Cottage was lovely. It was decorated beautifully, and was a great size. It had everything we needed there and the owner had kindly left a few supplies of essentials, such as tea and milk, which was a very pleasant surprise. The village is also very pretty and quiet. Unfortunately, the hallway coat cupboard had a bit of a bad smell which we found spread when we used the cupboard. However, as long as we didn't use the cupboard it was fine.
- Lesley (10/5): Fantastic well equipped quaint cottage - The property is quaint and very clean. In an ideal location for exploring. The owner had thought of everything and there was nothing we needed during our stay. When arrived there was a bottle of wine, teabags and milk in the fridge which we were very grateful for even soap and shower gel. It was like home from home for utensils and kitchen equipment. I loved our stay and would definitely recommend and will be returning soon. I have nothing bad to say at all but if I was being picky there isn’t enough comfy seating in the lounge.
- Brelfan (10/5): Lovely week walking in the local area, lots of interesting places and cottage excellent. - Compact, clean had everything needed, very thoughtfully put together to ensure I didn't require anything other than clothes and food. Handy parking space and great location in lovely village.
- Kittenstar (10/5): Beautiful cosy cottage - We had a wonderful stay in this lovely cosy cottage. It was very clean, super comfy bed and nice, thoughtful touches from the host. The wine and dog treats were very much appreciated 🙂
The village was peaceful and friendly with lots of local walks available nearby.
Good information pack on the local area left by host. The cottage had everything we needed for our relaxing break. It really was perfect.
We will definitely be booking here again in the future There was absolutely nothing to dislike.
- Anne (8/5): Very peaceful and cozy. - Lovely stay in a comfortable cottage. Cute and cosy. Beautiful roll top bath. Comfortable bed. Very peaceful. Good location for getting out about and only 15 minutes to Carlisle. It's wasn't easy to find down a dead end lane but once you got to know where to cut in it was fine.
