- Steve (10/5): Tranquil retreat in beautiful surroundings in a lovely little cottage. So impressed,we booked to return soon. - Although it was small,it was brilliantly laid out with all amenities on hand. A superb use of limited space with a quality finish throughout. Setting was amazing with panoramic views with not a wind turbine in sight! We have nothing we didn’t like.
- Christine (9/5): The host met us on arrival, very friendly. Lovely cottage, excellent walks for dog. - Comfortable, well equipped self catering cottage. Dog friendly enclosed garden, the location was excellent for our requirements. Would definitely stay again if in the area. No complaints at all.
- Emily (10/5): - Very cute and cosy, perfect for a few days escaping a busy life. Well equiped and clean.
- Jana (10/5): Peacefully romatic - It was a getaway weekend for my husband and I and we could not have picked a better place. Cottage is a very cozy and warm place, amazingly decorated and has everything you might need.
We spent the weekend exploring surrounding areas and the southern part of Galloway so even location was great for us and our labrador.
We would highly recommend Wrens nest to anyone who loves countryside and seeks peacefully romantic getaway.
- Ian (10/5): Lovely well equipped bijou accommodation - A superb accommodation. Well equipped and well named N/a
- Ana (10/5): Relaxing and fulfilled all my expectations. - It was beautiful surroundings, quiet, plenty of walks to take the dog. People in the village where really helpful. Nothing really. It suited my needs, the owner was very helpful when I couldn't find the property.
- Peter (10/5): -
- Colin (10/5): Lovely wee hideaway - The lovely host Gael met us on arrival 😊
Beautiful cottage, looks right out of a chocolate box 😍
Modern inside and lovely and clean,
Compact but with everything you need, welcome gifts were a lovely touch too ❤️
So so quiet 🤫 was absolute bliss!
And the added bonus of a lovely starry sky on the last night 🌟
Autumn in the area is lovely
We did the walks with our dog, who loved it too.
Would definitely recommend for anyone wanting a peaceful break! Nothing, it was great.
- Stephen (10/5): Peaceful and cosy place for some much needed relaxation - A clean and very quiet cosy cottage, set just outside a nice village with easy access to the A74 to explore the area including a nice former railway embankment walk just down the road. Ideal base for two looking to the Galloway area.
- Pijffers Marjanne (9/5): - Heel knus en gezellig.
Van alle gemakken voorzien, ondanks dat het een kleine studio is.
Het is heerlijk rustig. Niets
- Alan (10/5): Cute property, clean and tidy in lovely location -
- Elien (8/5): - De rust van het huisje.
De vlotte incheck.
De keuken had alles om basic te koken.
Was gezellig ingericht.
- Martin (10/5): A picture perfect cottage in a beautiful rural location - Wrens Nest was exactly what we were looking for. Such a cute wee cottage, beautiful inside and out and so comfortable Nothing…it was exactly as described, very comfortable and in a beautiful, quiet and secluded location
- Andrew (10/5): - A charming peaceful retreat. Well equipped and excellent value. The fudge and prosecco were a nice touch. A good base for exploring. Nothing
- Melanie (10/5): Perfect! - Lovely little cottage with absolutely everything we needed! Quiet, great local walks and starry views on a clear evening. Nothing
- Samantha (10/5): Lovely peaceful stay - Lovely stay in a great location. Parking is convenient. Great shower, comfortable bed and just what you need in the kitchenette Nothing, it was all great
- Claire (7/5): Lovely relaxing and great walks for dog - Location was lovely very clean No storage to put your clothes
- Tony (10/5): A gorgeous little cottage for two, ideally situated for exploring the Dumfries and Galloway - It is so difficult to find a cottage for two, so this was a fantastic find - a perfect little holiday home for two! Although small - one room plus entrance space and a bathroom - it contains everything you need in this beautifully decorated and maintained property: double bed, small settee, TV, WIFI and small kitchen all crammed into to small space, but without it feeling in any way cramped. Hosts left a lovely little welcome gift of prosecco and tablet, as well as there being cooking oil, milk, salt & pepper. With a two ring hob, air fryer and toaster plus all the kitchen utensils you need this place was better suited to self catering than many larger places we’ve been to. The shower in the tastefully decorated bathroom was beautifully clean and easy to use, with good ventilation of steam from excellent hot water supply. Parking was right next to the property, which also has a beautiful little garden with table/chairs for eating/drinking outside, weather permitting. All perfect, including the property’s name - as we even had a visit from a wren in the garden! A beautiful cottage for a short break and a great location for exploring Dumfries and Galloway, we are likely to return! Also worth noting, the owner was in touch - via the email link - as soon as we arrived to check everything was ok and to offer help if any needed. Perhaps a slighly better settee, but that’s being picky!
- Niina (10/5): Beautiful cottage - We had a wonderful stay in Wrens Nest. It's such a beautiful little cottage with all the necessary amenities and good parking.
The cottage may be rather small, but it's tastefully decorated, with a comfortable bed and a decent sized bathroom.
We really appreciated details like the welcoming gift and fresh flowers - such lovely gestures making us feel very welcome!
We would recommend buying some delicious fresh eggs from the farm down the road.
As we tend to do driving holidays with our two dogs annually, it's wonderful to find such beautiful and dog friendly accommodation options! We'd be happy to recommend Wrens Nest to friends and family. -
- David (10/5): Cosy and beautiful - A very pretty cosy cottage that's in a beautiful location.
- Katie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jean (10/5): Very peaceful, restful stay, just what was needed and in such comfortable surroundings…big 🤗 - It was a very homely, comforting place….wee touches like fresh wild flowers, Prosecco & fudge were added bonus and added to the quality feel! - Christopher (10/5): Exceptional - We absolutely loved our stay here. The little cottage is cosy but had everything we needed. Wrens nest was immaculate. The enclosed garden was great for our dogs and felt safe that they couldn't get out.
The location is a short drive from Newton Stewart. The area was very quiet, and we loved sitting outside in the evening having some dinner and drinks. Thank you for a lovely and relaxing stay.. Nothing at all.
- Kriss (10/5): Exceptional - The place was fantastic just what I needed for a short break 😁 for 1. Nothing
- Linda (10/5): Warm and cosy! - Great, comfy place to stay and dog friendly!
- Vicki (10/5): Quiet, cosy studio in a lovely location - Wrens nest is fabulous. My boyfriend and I had a lovely relaxing stay here. On arrival it was cosy, spotless with excellent amenities to use. The directions were spot on and for us the location was perfect for mountain biking and exploring the Galloway Forest. There is a shed for bike storage too although we left ours in the van. Would definitely recommend for a quiet couples weekend. The Prosecco and fudge were a lovely touch and we enjoyed both.
- Terry (10/5): Exceptional - Nothing to dislike.Perfect all round.Gael and her family are the perfect hosts.Outstanding cottage, magical areas close by in port william,Whithorn, isle of Whithorn,Wigtown, garleston.Plenty of bird life outside the cottage and beautiful trees and sunsets and mountain views.Spotlessly clean with everything you need for a couple.Like it that much allready booked again for next year.Anyone looking at this review, don,t waste time searching like we did, just book it and we are from a tourism background and speak as we find. You won,t be disappointed.
Thank you Gael 10/10.See you next year.x
- Roger (9/5): Wonderful little spot for a couple's getaway. - Nice Shower. lovely, lovely setting/area. Well presented and welcome package was a nice surprise. It was great that the weather was nice so we could eat our dinner on the table outside, as there's no dining table in the property. I wouldn't want to change the internal layout though!
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amanda (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic location, lovely little cottage with everything we needed for our stay. Very clean and great shower! Gael was very helpful and kind. The village of kirkcowan is just perfect very peaceful and the locals are really friendly, the dark skies are wonderful. We will def return sometime in the future!
- Liam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martin (9/5): Comfortable woodland accommodation, warm, bright although very small as it was just a single room. - Remoteness, cleanliness Smaller than expected as a one room accommodation.
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional - Good location, very clean and well equipped, we wanted for nothing.Gael, the owner, was every welcoming and on hand if needed.
It is ideal for dog owners offering a secure environment.

A very delightful 3 day break. Nothing

- Samantha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anthony (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (10/5): I love this place,it’s hard to leave when it’s time to go home ! - Beautiful little cottage in a quiet location, everything you need is there, spotlessly clean.
- Sheila (10/5): Great place to stay for privacy and to relax, - We were self catering Nothing , every thing was spot on
- Rosemary (9/5): Very comfortable, very clean close to village, host very friendly and helpful - Good location for a short stay> Bathroom very good with an excellent shower. Bed very comfortable and property very clean. There was no oven which was a bit of a disappointment but we managed with small microwave and small airfryer. There was very limited workspace. Probably ideal for 2 or 3 nights but for longer stays where we like to eat in on alternate nights this would be restrictive.
- Michael (9/5): Perfect - Location N/A
- Nicholas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brannigan (10/5): Exceptional - Very good if you have a dog as you can just let it go put and about without a leash and gael the owner was their to great you Nothing as everything was just right
- Lynne (10/5): Great place to stay with excellent host! - Absolutely loved Wrens nest! It's small but perfectly formed and very well equipped with everything you need for a great stay. Gael was a star as we were an hour early for our arrival and I called her to ask if it was possible to arrive at 3 instead of 4 o'clock. She confirmed that that was fine and that keys would be in the door ready for us. We travelled with our dog who is a rescue so wary of strangers and not dog friendly so the secure garden was ideal for her. Gael is very approachable and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The prosecco and fudge on arrival were a lovely touch!
- Yvonne (9/5): Superb -
- Sue (9/5): A lovely quiet base for exploring the area. - Lovely quiet location. Good provision of storage which was useful as the property is quite small. Good to have an air fryer as there is no oven. We could not find egg cups. Concerned that steam from the kettle and heat from the air fryer rise to the wall mounted TV .
- Helen (10/5): A welcoming cottage in a beautiful setting. Would highly recommend. - Exceptionally well equipped and fabulous to have a secure garden for the dog. Nothing.
- Ashleigh (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful cottage with beautiful surrounds. We really enjoyed our time at Wrens Nest. Highly recommend.

- Molly (10/5): Quiet, cosy and clean stay - We booked Wrens nest for a little quiet get away, the cottage itself was very easy to find, it was very clean, quiet, cosy and had everything we needed. Great heating and a hot shower. There was some prosecco and fudge on arrival which was a lovely touch after a long day. Thank you Gael for a brilliant stay.

- Martin (10/5): Dark Sky Park on the doorstep - Loved our stay at the Wrens nest, very cosy and perfect location to explore the area, especially the dark sky park. The accommodation had everything we required. We bumped into Gael a couple of times and she always made time for a chat. Nothing to dislike.
- Rosemary (9/5): Superb -
- Gill (9/5): Superb - Quiet cosy property, spotlessly clean throughout. Gael was the perfect host, welcoming but not intrusive.
- John (10/5): A wonderful little gem of a place - Host is very friendly and accommodating. We had to check on a bit earlier and the host let us in. It’s a real tardis with probably the best shower we have ever experienced. It looks a little tired from the outside but it’s perfect on the inside, so compact and everything you need. Great secure area to let the dog out into. It’s a beautiful location on the outskirts of village and easy to walk dog up and down the lane and nearby. Can’t think of anything!
- Eleanor (10/5): Exceptional - A comfortable, cosy place in peaceful countryside. It had everything we needed for a weekend away.
- Isobel (9/5): We had a lovely cozy stay and felt very welcome and valued guests. - Beautifully clean and quality tasteful finish to the fabric of the building and furnishings, very well and conveniently equipped, friendly and helpful owner, lovely location. A real little gem. Although the space was used very effectively, it was perhaps a little more compact than we had expected. Storage might have been challenging on a longer stay.
- Anonymous (10/5): We wish we could have stayed longer! - What a lovely little find this was! Beautifully clean and modern and nestled away in a very peaceful and remote area. The property was lovely and cosy, and had everything we needed for our stay. Gael was very accommodating to our needs. There was nothing we didn’t like about the property.
- Caroline (10/5): Exceptional - We had a lovely stay at Wrens nest. The cottage is in a beautiful and peaceful location with great views. Gael, our host, was so helpful when we needed her.
- Margaret (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent little studio cottage with everything you need, very cosy and comfortable ,lovely area that's got great walks around. Slept so peacefully and plenty stars visible as its so dark . Nothing
- Angela (10/5): Gael was super friendly and helpful and has put a lot of effort into making the Wren’s Nest a good place to stay. - Wren’s Nest was warm and quite well designed for a couple on a short stay. Parking was easy. and getting in to the property was trouble free. It’s in a pretty and peaceful location and the host, Gael, was very friendly and prompt with communications before and during our stay. I felt it could have done with shelves adjacent to the bathroom sink (on the wall behind the door) to put our toiletries on and also a towel ring on the side of the sink unit. These small additions would have made using the bathroom much easier.
Both in terms of aesthetics and practicality I would have preferred to have a little dining table and two dining chairs rather than the sofa and two small collapsible side tables. You can always relax on the bed and watch tv from there very comfortably... possibly more comfortably than sitting on a small sofa. Having a table would making eating meals easier and also easier to use a laptop and would be useful extra food prep space.
The mattress was very soft and both my husband and I woke up with a back ache each morning. I appreciate that there are some people who like soft mattresses but they aren’t good for anyone’s spine.
- Derek (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (9/5): Superb -
- Elizabeth (9/5): Lovely hidden bolt hole - Beautiful location. Walks for the dog on the doorstep. Lovely touch with prosecco on arrival.
- John (10/5): Everything we needed. - Property was very clean with everything we needed. Host was very good gave us lots of information. N/A
- Cathie (10/5): Comfortable and good value. - Comfortable bed, and very clean property. Nice little touches (thank you for the Prosecco!), and quiet location. No room for a full size table and chairs, but that’s a very minor point.
- Andrew (10/5): A wonderful place to stay with a great host. - Wren's Nest is located close to a small village and is surrounded by countryside. the night skies were superb and Gael the host was very friendly and extremely helpful. The location is ideal to explore the surrounding area.
We highly recommend the accomodation. Nothing, we just wish we could have stayed longer.
- Melanie (10/5): Lovely place to spend a couple of nights - Small but mighty studio in a nice, quiet location. Friendly but unobtrusive hosts. Comfortable bed and good shower. Enclosed shady garden area was great for the dog, and we enjoyed sitting outside with a glass of wine. Everything was good quality and well thought out. Kitchenette has limited facilities for preparing food but plenty of options for evening meals within 15 minutes.
- Roderick (9/5): Gael was really welcoming. Wren's Nest cosy, comfortable & very well equipped. - N/A No facility to charge a Mobile phone...... or maybe we didn't find it!
- Amanda (10/5): Exceptional - Great location easy to find. Lovely welcome pack and well equipped cottage.
