Guest Reviews
- Sheri (6/5): Pleasant staff and good location but some improvement needed. - Good location and free parking. Food and staff were great. Room 15 was pokey and in need of refurbishment. Basin was cracked and shower tray had some mould.
Didn’t like the fact that no-one was at reception when you checked out and no bell to alert staff.
- Tim (9/5): - Room had recently been renovated and was excellent, really comfortable bed. Stunning view. Food in bar and breakfast were outstanding. Decor in dining room was very plain and quite a late start for breakfast 9am
- Stephen (9/5): Enjoyabl break with good views nice walks and great food - Homely atmosphere with friendly staff and top class food Nothing
- Julie-ann (10/5): - So welcoming had a lovely stay will definitely be back
- Leanne (7/5): -
- James R (9/5): Comfortable. Great location. - We were passing through for one night. Location was great on the seafront and near the ferry. Breakfast was good. On arrival, we were trying to get a drink. One of the bar staff was very unhelpful and did not serve us for 5 minutes while he messed around. An attitude problem and bordering on the offensive. We are from Dublin and we wondered whether this was the issue for him. Her warmed up a bit later when it emerged that we were staying the night.
- Neil (10/5): - All the staff at the hotel are welcoming, friendly and provide excellent customer service. The restaurant menu and food quality are great. Portaferry is a tranquil, friendly community set in a beautiful environment. Always have a fabulous time here.
- Fiona (7/5): Enjoyed stay overall - Beautiful outlook Room small. No view. Sink bad crack in it and on final morning fire alarm in room went off for no apparent reason
- Annie (8/5): - Reasonably priced Room very small
- Dawn (7/5): Enjoyed our stay - Loved the four poster bedroom. Fantastic views across to Strangford. Excellent meal in restaurant. Restaurant service extremely slow - maybe due to the bank holiday weekend. Breakfast next morning served only between 9 - 10. Service very slow. Problem if you needed away quickly.
- Gary (4/5): -
- Winnie (9/5): -
- Janet (7/5): - All the staff were respectful, courteous and helpful. My bedroom was very small especially the bathroom, I know this is an old Hotel, but so is the furniture all dark and some of it would not have been needed in this room. A more comfortable easy chair with a small table would have made the room more inviting.
The breakfast both mornings was very enjoyable and the seats outside made a very nice viewing point.
All in All I enjoyed my stay. Thank you.
- Ellen (10/5): Lovely place to stay, nice location and lovely staff - Very clean and welcoming , staff are wonderful and helpful. The breakfast was plentiful , I Would happily stay here again If I had any niggles, it would be that a prefer a double bed to actually be a double, and not two singles made into one, as I can feel the ridge in the mattress and makes for a less comfortable sleep.
- Robert Kosiba (9/5): - Our group had a great stay. Everything was provided, location, good food and seafront, easy access to the ferry. Duvet was too good, too hot 🫣😂 - not really a complaint thought
- Tom (8/5): Great place to stay but breakfast needs to be improved - Great location and member of staff on reception was superb Breakfast was poor. Cheap coffee and orange juice and rubbery omelet. Porridge was good
- Brian (10/5): Excellent overnight stay - Fantastic view from room. Comfortable high bed. Receptionist very friendly and helpful. Restaurant clean and food excellent. Also waitress and bar staff were professional and quick. Would definitely recommend.. excellent overnight stay.. N/A

- Tommy (8/5): -
- Janet (8/5): - Friendly and professional staff. Nice atmosphere. No black out blinds or curtains as hotel lighting on outside for most of the night. I'm a light sleeper. TV in room didn't seem to work.

- Michelle (7/5): - Staff very friendly and accommodating. Good selection for breakfast - food amazing.
- James (9/5): -

- Denise (5/5): Shabby Chic or just plain Shabby ? - Great location, fantastic food and attentive staff. Our room was advertised as a deluxe lough view four poster room costing £375 for 2 nights B&B for 2 people. The positive points in the box above were overshadowed by the poor standard of decor in the hotel ..not just our bedroom. Rotten window frames in our room and bathroom with holes big enough to get your fingers in, rotten window frames.in restaurant with big lumps of filler evident , cracked window panes in the restaurant. Runs of large chips of paint missing from staircase and skirting boards in the bar / bistro area. Our room's online description boasted an iron and ironing board which were not in the room , and large screen tv with WiFi.....the television could only show 3 terrestrial channels or CBBC and the WiFi wasn't working. It was reported to staff and despite 2 trying to fix it it remained not working for all.our stay. Altogether a disappointing experience which we won't be repeating.
- Denis (8/5): - Excellent breakfast
- LOUISE (7/5): - Comfortable Rooms could be decluttered a bit
- Gilmore (8/5): Lovely food and great atmosphere - Clean and tidy. Large room 4 poster great coffee machine. Food was excellent
- Michael (5/5): - The food was unbelievable lovely The room we got wasn't great very old and dated window blinds were lyeing in the room instead of on the windows room was very cold at night
- Jason (10/5): - A traditional cosy hotel with warmth and personality we loved this hotel Nothing
- Aine (9/5): -
- Aidan (9/5): - Friendly and central location with sea view
- Oliver (8/5): - Staff were very helpful, food was excellent No facilities after 11pm as in drinks, getting upgrade to building which is going well
- karon (9/5): This is a wonderful hotel providing a very warm welcome. I highly recommend it. - Exceptionally comfortable stay with superb staff and excellent food. A very minor quibble - the sink in the bathroom had a crack.
- Helen (7/5): We were only there for one night - It was available at short notice and the staff were friendly The shower in the bath and lack of space for suitcases. Also the number of staircases to be negotiated. It was really hard to open the door.
- Billy (10/5): Relaxing - We had a great room with a fantastic view of the bay. Evening meal was delicious. Peppercorn sauce was slow at coming out. Breakfast was delicious too. Eggs Florentine was cooked to perfection There was only one double plug socket by the door which meant the kettle or any charging had to be done behind the door and on the floor.
- Henry (9/5): Enjoyable stay - Good Irish Breakfast , we had a lough view and good sized room. The food in the hotel was very good indeed . The outside of the hotel is being refurbished and is covered in scaffolding. However this had no impact on our stay
- Billy (10/5): Relaxing and revitalising just what we needed - From the welcome to the goodbye everything was perfect for us. Evening meal in the bar was delicious and value for money. The room was spacious and comfortable and again value for money. Beds are very comfortable and sleep was great very peaceful. Breakfast was delicious and plenteous and great value for money staff are so friendly and helpful. That was our second stay at the Portaferry Hotel and we will definitely return soon.
- Jolene (10/5): -
- Michele (7/5): It was very comfortable and convenient for what we needed and staff were very helpful and food was excellent - It was very good- with excellent service It was under Renovation

- Joseph (7/5): -
- Bridget (9/5): Good location - Great location
- brenda (8/5): - Hotel on sea front. Lovely view from lounge. Staff very helpful and friendly.Breakfast was delicious. Bedroom was a bit small. Some upgrade needed to fixtures but is planned.
- brenda (8/5): -
- Ernest (8/5): Lovely. Beautiful location. Friendly staff. Good food. - Breakfast excellent. Location delightful. Little touches. No water in the room. No tissues.
- Elzabeth (8/5): End of Summer treat - Loved our four poster bed and the antique furniture in the bedroom. Tea tray beautifully laid out with china teacups and a choice of biscuits.
Fantastic view of the Lough and ferry ⛴️
Breakfast was great..Good selection and freshly made ..
Service was good. Some repairs needed to the taps in sink in our bathroom.. Window wouldn't stay open in the bathroom... Sash cord probably broken..
Dining room not in keeping with the old fashioned feel of the rest of the hotel...and cleaning items in clear view took away from the over all feel.
- Teresa (9/5): Loved it! Hope to visit again. - I had two nights booked at the Portaferry Hotel and enjoyed my seaview/lochview room so much I booked another two nights. The room was reasonable size and clean, and was complete with a lovely good sized ensuite bathroom.
The breakfast staff was delightful. Many thanks to Kateland for excellent service and a friendly breakfast chats.
There was a meeting room I was able to use to work a few hours on my laptop. The internet cut out a few times but nothing serious.
The wee town is lovely and great for a stroll. Sunsets are nice. Two grocery stores are just a few minutes walk away. The ferry to and from Strangford and Portaferry runs on a regular basis for less than £3. Also available is the city bus into Belfast which takes just over an hour.
Portaferry Hotel is a great location and with beautiful views and nearby conveniences. For those who want a town with a lot to do, Portaferry is probably not your first choice. For those who want a beautiful relaxing time, stay as long as you can. I propped the window open with a trash can. However, that will be remedied soon since the new owners are having new windows fitted for the entire hotel very soon.
- Laura (9/5): - Amazing location
- John and brenda (9/5): Lovely - A lovely visit A hand rail on some more of the inner stairs prrhaps for reassurance
- Sam (8/5): -
- Fredy (9/5): -
- Marguerita (9/5): Superb - This hotel is in a beautiful seaside town. The people are so friendly and the area is very well maintained. The views are so pretty. The hotel itself is very comfortable and food was lovely for dinner and breakfast. Staff were so friendly and helpful. I had a lovely room looking out at the sea and the bed was so comfortable. The hotel is full of charm and fab antique furniture.
- Tom (8/5): Very good - Location. Staff were so friendly Hotel needs a major upgrade. Flies everywhere
- Audrey (8/5): Very good - Breakfast was good. Location is excellent.
I drove off the ferry, tired after a long day of tripping about, and the hotel was just there , so I parked right in front of it. It couldn't have been more convenient can't remember anything
- Mark (5/5): Passable -
- Susan (6/5): Pleasant - Location, friendly staff. Room noisy, bed creaky, felt expensive compared to other hotels nearby.
- Pamela (9/5): Great location, lovely staff and lovely food. - Breakfast was lovely. Evening meal was lovely too. There was a large wardrobe pushed up by the bed, making it difficult to access the wardrobe or get into that side of bed. There was a bedside table but you couldn’t access the drawer.
The room would have been vastly improved without both items.
- Neal (9/5): Fabulous location - Brilliant location, very friendly staff, good food. Nothing
- David (7/5): Good - Staff, food No grab handles on bath/shower. Essential for older clients. Late breakfast only from 9.00.
- Helen (8/5): Very good -
- Amanda (10/5): Best place to stay ! - Lovely room overlooking the bay, comfortable .
Lots of options to eat, nice local pubs
- Helen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (9/5): Comfortable stay with a great Irish welcome ! - Very authentic old building, but tastefully renovated in keeping with its history. Bar was a bit noisy but it was a holiday so no big problem.
- Tina (9/5): Superb - Great location . Helpful friendly staff. Special thank you to Siobhan and Edel.
- Gerry (10/5): A very pleasant night away from home with friends - The food was excellent and the staff very friendly The chowder at dinner wasn’t quite the consistency one would normally expect, tasty but a bit watery
One of our party simply wanted poached egg, sausage and bacon for breakfast. We were told that there was no flexibility on the cooked breakfast and could only have the full cooked option. Some of the food went to waste
- Ian (8/5): Very good - Good old fashioned hotel Room was a little chilly, after a day out in cold needed warming
Could do with plug sockets next to bed
