Guest Reviews
- Dianne (9/5): Very enjoyable. - The friendly helpful people. The proximity to Port Louis and the local bus routes.
- Mohamed (10/5): -
- Praveen (10/5): the staff especially Ms. Mary, Ms. Popo & Ms. Rita are always ready to help. - quiet & hygienic room, nice location, helpful staff. The place is near to beach. There is nice pizzeria near to this place. nothing to dislike
- Georgette (8/5): -
- Robert (7/5): Charming place, but only if you have a car - Attractive and charming Location not near anything.
Only served breakfast and no places nearby that served food.
No elevators
Owner’s mother in charge…..unable to communicate or answer any questions.
- Maurine (9/5): -
- Serge (9/5): It was amazing -
- Rudy (10/5): A hospitable safe heaven far from home when visiting Port Louis and surroundings... - Hospitality of the owner and her complete staff. The breakfast was super. The room was very cosy and modern.
The location (close to Port Louis) Nothing
- Herbert (7/5): Alles in allem vom Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis deutlich überteuert.
- Tinsae (9/5): - We enjoyed our time. Our hosts (Mary, Daniel, Mary's mum and all staff) were very welcoming and did their best to make our stay comfortable. They also booked for us an efficient car rental company who were punctual (Our driver from the company, Mike, was excellent!) and accompanied us to tours to the North, West and South of the main island. We used a SIM we bought from the airport without difficulty but there is also wifi.
- Dipankar (9/5): -
- Sushil (8/5): -
- Shabbir (1/5): - Casa Maria is not a hotel. It is Guest House, the rooms are not individual, but are connected thru a big living room. There is no separate room entrance. You have to enter thru the Living Room.
The owners are absolutely non cooperative. I suggest to guests do not get carried away. There is no privacy.
- Feride (1/5): - Nichts!
- Tatiana (10/5): -
- Alenka (8/5): - Very kind and helpful host. The bathroom was not very clean, the location is a bit remote.
- Marc (8/5): Very good - Very friendly people.
It was quit. Breakfast OK
Internet 👍
- Paul (3/5): It was average luckily it was only 2 nights and not longer - The room was clean There was no tea or coffee provided in the room. When I asked I was told to wait for the next morning. Very rural location not much can be done
- Myrna (5/5): Not recommended for Seniors - the rooms are cozy There was no elevator and hard to carry suitcases
The breakfast is boring
The location is far from the city and there is no restaurant or shops closeby
- Boesman (7/5): Good -
- Eliza (9/5): Very comforting - I loved the people and the service a lot
- John (9/5): My stay at casa maria was really enjoyable and i would recommend 100% - The breakfast was really good especially the omelette it was really good plus also the juice it was marvelous
- Aremu (10/5): Beautifully nice - Breakfast and dinner served were the best .
We Had a beautiful timen enjoying the meals also the taxi drivers arranged are so friendly. All thanks to Mary and her mom you guys are the best

- Irfan (9/5): Superb - Casa Maria offers a home-like environment and a very comfortable stay for anyone looking for a peaceful & clean house to stay at..The owner is very helpful and kind. My stay here was extremely memorable. She helps with arranging taxis & tours. Quick responses and good followups before chekin, Home cooked breakfast at seaview swimming poo side was awesome .
- Blanchet (8/5): Very good - Really enjoyed the ambiance and the pool
Very friendly helpful host.
- Monica (10/5): Highly suggested! Mary supports you also with activities, prepares dinner always with a Great smile - Mary and her mum make Sure you will feel at home. the room was very nice and clean
- Puuv66rik (8/5): Very nice place to stay, with very friendly and helpful staff - The host was incredibly helpful and friendly, like a local family member to us. The room was spacious and comfortable, equipped with air conditioning. The bathroom was also spacious, featuring a bath, shower, two sinks, etc.
Every morning, breakfast was provided, even on public holidays, and if requested, the host also prepared dinner. I wish breakfast included more fresh vegetables, such as cucumbers and tomatoes.
The bathroom didn't have a door (it was separated from the main area with a curtain). Neither of these things were significant issues.
- Peter (3/5): If Mary's away, stay away, or expect and pay for far less. - "Casa Maria" brand is clearly important to Mary, as there are stickers for it everywhere in the property, but it does not survive her absence, so threre's a long way yet to go, if that is the objective . The persistent and loud, mobile speakerphone dialogue between her elderly mother and many others, that could be heard throughout the ground floor we stayed in, was an enduring disturbance justified by Mary as her mother's deafness(!!) to which there are solutions but for which guests are instead made to suffer. Dialogue on the simplest of matters with the sole person in charge, i.e. Mary's mother who I imagine has done all she needs to in her life, to not be burdened with maintaining her daughter's brand, was impossible due to both language and comprehension difficulties.
- Soroush (8/5): Very good -
- Shadrack (10/5): Fantastic - Mary is the best family member anyone could wish for in a home away from home.
Delicious meals each night, planning all activities with me to make sure our honeymoon and my wife’s birthday was a memorable one Not being able to use the kitchen on our own, eventhough we didn’t ask to use
- Shwetansh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carla (9/5): Central property with a very attentive host - The property is managed by Mary, she is very welcoming and always there to give out recommendations. She also offers dinner, which she cooks herself. I would recommend renting a car, as there is no public transport or shops in walking distance. It‘s a perfect place to stay at if you want to explore the island, as the property is located very centrally. 15 min. drive to Port Louis(capital city) or Flic en Flac (beautiful beaches). Mary cares for every guest and takes time to get know them. At night we sat on the terrace and played board games and also were able to meet the other guests. All in all it was the perfect accommodation for us and we will definitely come back! It’s difficult to get around without a car.
- Jolyon (8/5): Very good -
- Mélis (10/5): Amazing stay - Mary the host is exceptional. She made sure we felt at home during our entire stay. She was able to book us tours. We also enjoyed her tasty cuisine. We had homemade dinner cooked by her during our entire stay and it was always delicious.
Rooms are very clean.
- Steve (10/5): Idyllic home from home - Exceeded all expectations , particularly just how warm, welcoming and attentive the host was.
Beautiful decorated and maintained throughout , very much like a designer boutique hotel but with the bonus of being homely and relaxed.
High quality furniture, bedding , towels etc and the food both breakfast and evening meals were delicious and presented like a top class restaurant.
Very safe and secure and quiet and peaceful . Having to leave to carry on with travel plans
- Dolores (10/5): The Kindness and Availability of the TEAM. - I was on a working trip. It has been amazing at Casa Maria. They've been assisting and with me all the way. The owner Mary listen to all my little request and went out of her way to make my stay smooth.
She's an amazing Lady and an excellent Chef. Every night I was travelling through the food culture of Mauritius. Thank you very much to make this 5 days richest and beautiful.
- Christine (10/5): Most Amazing Stay, 11 Out of 10! - Our stay at Casa Maria was beyond exceptional, if we could give it an 11 out of 10 I would.
The rooms are beautiful, clean and well looked after.
Maria is the most AMAZING host, she truly loves what she's does and it shines through in her hospitality and the pride in her place, no request is too much for her, going out of her way to make it special.
She loves making people happy and really ensures you have the best contacts and info to get the most out of your trip.
It was my birthday for one of the nights we were there and she cooked us one of her traditional dishes which was amazing, and even breakfast every morning had some special surprise for you to try.
- Rajdeep (10/5): Cute cozy homestay - Very good property. Owner is very helpful, can organize tours or rent taxi, cars if needed.
Breakfast is also very good. She is an excellent cook, she can cook many many types of dishes, all of them very tasty.
Local bus is available at walking distance directly to Port Louis bus stop.
There is a swimming pool in the property. The rooms are spacious and clean, with big attached bathroom.
The sea is visible from the roof. The location is in a residential area, so there are no restaurants or fast food shops around if you want to eat outside.
- Michael (10/5): very clean and comfortable room - Beautiful room, excellent breakfast with lots of different choices and even some freshly made egg omelette and crepes. The downstairs room is next to the reception, you might be able to hear people talking there. Was not an issue after 18:00.
- Marco (10/5): All was great - All was great N/A
- Cookie (7/5): Good -
- Allycia (10/5): We had the immense pleasure of staying several nights at Casa Maria during our vacation in Mauritius. We have previously - We had the immense pleasure of staying several nights at Casa Maria during our vacation in Mauritius. We have previously experienced a number of guesthouse stays in various countries and without hesitation, I would vouch that Casa Maria was one of the most authentic, local experiences we have had at a guesthouse. It was a delight to have an authentic experience hosted by the wonderful Mary, who went above and beyond being attentive to our needs- whether it was assistance with organising car rental before we arrived, to helping with coordinating booking a catamaran outing. Mary, being a local Mauritian, was always ready to answer any questions regarding activities, travel, how to get to a particular destination, or helping our stay be more comfortable at the guesthouse. All we had to do was ask Mary. Additionally, the food at Casa Maria was authentic and hearty. Breakfast would consist of bread (bought that very morning- freshly baked locally) and a variety of condiments, and a hot dish each morning such as eggs done your way (scrambled, fried, omelette etc). Mary was happy to customise breakfast according to our dietary needs. We opted most nights to have dinner at the guesthouse which we found to be very convenient as we were exhausted at the end of most days from sightseeing and driving all around the island. Dinner at Casa Maria was cooked in-house by a local Mauritian and what a delight it was to taste the various dishes of Mauritius- from rougaille, to local masala, to home-cooked Chinese-Mauritian dishes. Mauritius definitely has quite a variety of different types of cuisines, which is reflective of the multicultural and diverse cultures. We found the price for dinner very reasonable, as well as being fresh and delicious (we’re not a big fan of eating out at restaurants given the amount of additives and MSG they usually add). Overall, we had a very memorable time at Casa Maria which served as a convenient “base” for our visits around the island.
- Godwin (8/5): Nice cozy place to retire to after a hard day's work. - Breakfast was really good. Quiet place as needed for my relaxation. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Was actually happy that for the few days i was at the house, there were not many guests coming in. So, it really felt like home. The WIFI went off for one day due to an issue with the service provider, but it was restored, and it remained stable for the rest of the period.
- Aminu (9/5): It was very comfortable! - It was very clean, in a strategic location, had an extremely supportive and caring staff. Breakfast was great.
- Edwins (8/5): A great experience to refer friends in the future - The ambiance was lovely The casa was good looking and was homely
- Samuel (8/5): Very good -
- Paul (10/5): It was worth our stay in Port Louis - It was very calming, clean and spacious
- Mathuthu (7/5): Fair, expected ammenities (TEA, COFFEE & SUGAR, MILK in my room daily. Had to go downstairs - Good No wifi
- Michaela (5/5): Mediocre facility with little amenities. Not recommended when travelling for business. - The room furniture and bathroom were quite new and in a good condition. The mattress was comfortable. WiFi and A/C are okay. Location is in Point aux sable, in a not so well-rated residential area and quite remote from Port Louis. There are no restaurants, shopping centres or groceries around except for the rundown 'Londown Way" mini-market. the advertised beach is not a beach
The house's windows, patio doors and roof are badly insulated, all rooms were inundated during the heavy rains and floodings that happened on April 19-20. For the rest of the week, there were buckets at every floor and on the staircase to catch the water dripping from the ceiling.
There is no dining room, except for a table near the reception. Although is a guest house, kitchen is locked during the day and no staff is available to assist. Breakfast is mediocre (coffee /tea, bread with margarine, jam and peanut butter, cereals, eggs; no fresh veggies and barely any fruits).
- Neda (9/5): Superb - Ana is wonderful, it's a quiet street, it's good for vacation. The breakfast is solid and the terrace is good for relaxing.
Bad location. Far from the beach and the capital. It takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour by bus. The apartment is clean and comfortable, but the toilet is open, connected to the room
- Bhatt (9/5): Its a nice and quite area to live in and also not so far from the commercial centres. The stay was very pleasent, the ro - The neighbourhood was very good and not so far from port louis. The breakfast should have more options and has lot of room for improvement.
- Sunette (9/5): Superb -
- Tomislav (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mindy (10/5): Fabulous place to stay with good people! - The breakfast was lovely and the option to have omelets was great. The room was nice, clean, and comfortable with a good storage setup to unpack. Mary was an amazing host, accommodating my erratic schedule and sometimes unusual requests. The neighborhood is quiet, but still an easy drive to downtown. Having dinner available at the hotel (extra charge) was very convenient and always delicious. Filtered water is always available in the kitchen. Thanks, Mary and company, for an amazing stay!
- Tatiana (8/5): Very good -
- Sahil (10/5): What a lovely place to stay at - Lovely property in a peaceful location close to Port louis too.
The staff is really sweet and the owner Maria is a great host Nothing as such
- Barbara (10/5): Great retreat with warm hospitality - Our stay at this guesthouse was delightful! The Dodo Royale, the largest room, provided a spacious and cozy retreat with a fantastic sea view, a generous bathroom, and a jacuzzi bath. The serene surroundings ensured a peaceful night's sleep. The owner and staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort, assisting with car rental and obtaining a SIM card. The breakfast options were tasty and varied, with a cozy kitchen area for tea throughout the day. Evenings were enjoyable by the pool, and the peaceful atmosphere made it easy to forget how many guests were around. A truly serene and welcoming experience! While it didn't pose an issue for us, it's important to note that the gates are locked in the evenings. If you plan to return late, arrangements must be made for someone to be available to unlock the door for you.
- Biplav (6/5): Pleasant -
- Biplav (6/5): Pleasant -
- Mrs.uranie (9/5): Superb -
- Mark (9/5): Superb - Friendly and helpful staff and owner
- David (8/5): Very good - Great place!
- Vanessa (10/5): We will be back and even though it was a short stay, we felt immediately at home! - Everything! Maria is an exceptional host. Professional, kind and very efficient.
- Nicu (10/5): Exceptional - Feel 'a casa' at Casa Maria
- Varghese (10/5): Excellent place with warm staff - The Staff and Owner were very accommodating and helping , Felt Home away from Home.. Difficult to find the place
- Tien (10/5): Exceptional - everything, room is so spacious nothing
- Sajauddin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emkay (9/5): Superb -
- Sven (8/5): Very good -
- Shenxia (10/5): Fantastic - It's very quiet and suitable for a vacation. The owner, Maria, is very welcoming, making it feel like a home away from home. Everyone from different countries gathers together to eat and chat at dinner, like culture exchange, creating a very warm atmosphere. The 5 Islands trip is awesome! It offers an affordable price and an unforgettable experience.
- Oyena (4/5): I would have appreciated more transparency from the host for certain things such as: “you might not have water at some p - Booked two rooms deluxe rooms. One was absolutely amazing (first floor with the ensuite) and the pool was absolutely amazing. The other room we booked (second floor with open plan) was so disappointing. The bath tub (which was the selling factor for us) had been removed and replaced with a shower unbeknownst to us, we found out from the host on the day of check in.
The accommodation is not as close to the beach OR Port Louis as was previously advertised on Booking.com (now changed).
Gates are locked at 23:00 which I thought was weird for a place housing tourists who might want to explore the city night life.
The breakfast selection was so basic. A choice between 2 cereals, 2 fruits (banana and apple), 2 types of fried egg (sunny side up and an onion + tomato omelette) and that’s it. Also, the supposedly 3 course dinner (they offer for Rs900) we had was also quite disappointing: jalapeño poppers, chicken breyani, different flavours of ice cream.
For a place that had supposedly only opened a month ago, the bathrooms weren’t very clean. There was residue on the sink outlets, on the toilets and and and.
- Robert (10/5): The owner (Mary) made it such a magical stay with her caring personality and great cuisine! - Impeccable decoration with a “home-y” touch. Clean, tidy and very comfortable. The main door closed at a specific time (one can come at any time during the night, however, it inconveniences the staff)
- Anna (10/5): Exceeded expectations - The huge terrace and 360 degree views from my suite at the top of the house, the beautiful and peaceful neighbourhood, the communal dinners at the end of the day and, above all, the welcome and kindness of Mary and her team. It was the perfect way to start my holiday. Breakfast could be better, particularly local fruit selection (apart from the tasty omelettes and the papaya on my last day) and something other than chicken for dinner (I do not normally eat it but Mary is an excellent cook).
- Jakub (9/5): Superb - The apartment was newly renovated, clean, and the staff was very nice and helpful. Family atmosphere.
- Kassimu (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rob (8/5): A great venue, with a wonderful host - A good selection for Breakfast - with a great evening meal. So worth taking the time to eat in the evening.
The decor was extremely clean and well kept (I was one of the first new guests)
You could not ask for a more attentive host. I was there for work - so the location was not ideal to get in to Port St Louis itself. The 15 minute journey can turn into an hour during rush hour. The street where the property is located was not "picturesque" but as a location to get and see the local area or explore the island further, it was great.
