Guest Reviews
- Anishta (10/5): It was a beautiful blend of luxury, hospitality, and exceptional culinary experiences. - The entire property was beautiful - including the living area, the infinity pool with a stunning view, the room we stayed in - all of it was exceptional. The entire staff was very hospitable, especially Welles who really took care of us, and anticipated our needs and was truly such a joy to be around. We also did a cooking class with Chef Roshan and had so much fun - not only did we learn how to make delicious curries but also had an enjoyable experience.
In addition, we had a tasting menu curated by Chef Isuru, which was hands down the best meal we had during our time in Sri Lanka.
Overall, Kasun and the entire team went above and beyond to make our stay truly unforgettable. NA

- Catherine (10/5): Stunning scenery and beautiful property - Incredible setting and lovely staff. Excellent food. Great cookery lesson.

- Helen (10/5): One of my best boutique hotel experiences ever - A location to take your breath away. We arrived late afternoon and watched the sunset over the valley - just incredible. The old tea planter villa has been beautifully and authentically restored with comfort and sociability in mind. We didn’t read all the details but had taken the all inclusive option (which is advisable) which included all food and drinks. A cool gin and tonic on arrival really was the icing on the cake! We also opted for the cooking class which was great - we will see if we can reproduce anything as tasty!! The food was all delicious and the staff were attentive without being too much. Here you can keep yourself private but the layout in the lounge is such to allow you to converse with other guests which we really enjoyed. If you want to treat yourself - this is the place! Nothing
- Ekaterina (10/5): -
- matt (10/5): Outstanding - Outstanding on every front
- Jane-Anne (10/5): Fabulous hotel, amazing food and wonderful staff - Fabulous location, modern, super clean and wonderful food. Best hotel of our whole trip. Staff are second to none. Can’t rate it highly enough. Nothing
- Kate (8/5): Beautiful location and good hotel if money is not a concern. - Fantastic views set in the hills above the railway (Demodara, not Ella) and beautiful gardens and pool. Wonderful G&Ts. Lovely veranda to eat dinner. Having to choose breakfast and dinner well in advance. We found the service at times a bit irritating even though we knew they were trying to be helpful. Very expensive for what it is. Happy to pay more in other locations that offer more but actually this is quite far out of Ella and the food was average (excluding the breakfast which was excellent).
- Paula (10/5): Magical - Beautiful property!
- Michael (7/5): -
- Sarah (10/5): What an absolute treat. We would love to return or experience another place in the Teardrop group. Our children will hav - What a beautiful place ! The garden, the house, the location, the outlook, everything was wonderful to look upon. The stillness, the sound of the birds and the temple prayers. The team were incredible - so helpful and lovely to chat with. We became close with them during our stay.
The food was exceptional- I don’t think we’ve eaten so well before on holiday. There was nothing we didn’t like
- Fiona (10/5): Perfect 4 nights! - Amazing stay! The staff were so friendly and helpful. The hotel was peaceful, relaxing and like a small sanctuary in the tea region. Walking in the are was stunning. The food was one of the best parts of our stay. All the Sri Lankan meals were delicious.
- Max (9/5): A memorable stay - Very peaceful and quiet hotel. We felt very rested after a long day of travelling. Hotel staff were great and very friendly. Food and drinks were amazing. The team went above and beyond to make our twin beds into a double bed! The garden is beautiful and the view spectacular. The room was very dim. Other than that it was great :)
- Claudia (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were incredible! The setting beautiful & so relaxing No complaints!
- Tatiana (8/5): Very good -
- David (9/5): Top quality service in the hill country - We enjoyed our stay in this historic tea estate bungalow. The staff were excellent and all our meals were superb. The evening rice and curry was our favourite meal. We walked a short section of the Pekoe Trail and enjoyed a picnic provided. You need sturdy shoes, a raincoat and be prepared for the leeches. Dinesh the naturalist is knowledgeable and it is worth the extra $ for his morning birdwatching walk. Suraj and Gimantha looked after us so well and chef Chamara was always checking that we enjoyed our food. Nothing.
- Петр (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lukas (10/5): A wonderful retreat into peacful tranquility - The setting is marvellous. The staff cold not be more friendly, helpful and customer oriented. The cuisine is excellent. And the chef even went the extra mile to cook for us Sri Lankan delicacies, which were not on the menu. The setting is very private. And we were unfortunate that during the last night another guest was walking around and speaking very loudly in the lobby at 3 o’clock in the morning, which naturally could be heard by everyone.
- Rebekah (10/5): Exceptional - From the moment we arrived we were treated by all the staff incredibly well. We loved everything about the property from the old colonial high ceilings to the beautiful gardens and infinity pool. The little walks around the property overlooking the tea plantation were stunning with little nooks for reading. So private and peaceful. Beautiful and super relaxing. We couldn’t fault 9 Skies.
- Olivia (10/5): Exceptional! Would definitely recommend. - We had an exceptional stay at Nine Skies. We loved everything; comfortable rooms, beautiful terrace and spectacular views/pool area. In fact this was our favourite stay in Sri Lanka and we wish we could have stayed longer. The level of service was also fantastic, but also felt nice and relaxed at the same time; the Butlers were lovely and so attentive/helpful without being too overbearing (which is what we had experienced in some other hotels in Sri Lanka). Special shout out to Udara (and another lovely man whose name I can’t remember but had a tattoo on his arm). The beds were also very comfortable! We were staying with our toddler and it was made to feel so easy; the fact she could run out onto the lawn straight from our terrace doors was great. And being able to use the lovely lounge area in the evening once she was asleep as it was right next to our room was also a big perk. We enjoyed playing croquet on the lawn, taking a refreshing dip in the pool and walks of the surrounding area. The bathroom could perhaps be updated a little. The sink was a bit marked but only a tiny issue. Everything else was spectacular!
- Claudia (7/5): Good - Great view, nice location It needs touching up and restoration. We had a leak in the roof. The staff is very nice but their knowledge of English is not too good. They say yes, mean well but don’t understand. There is not much to do
- Suresh (10/5): Blown away by its beauty - Extremely beautiful, lovely design and very relaxing
- Stephen (10/5): This hotel is brilliant if you want a very quiet, secluded spot in the Hill Country with excellent service and food. - Nine Skies is the definition of boutique luxury. It is a small hotel with only 5 rooms and the service we received from all the staff was truly so personable this really felt like a home away from home. The design of the whole hotel is beautiful with a wonderful living room, with a cosy fire in the evenings, and our suite room was beautiful with a terrace. The pool has an amazing view over the tea plantation. All the meals we had were delicious. Our host was very friendly and helpful, organising day trips for us and setting up our own table with lots of candles for dinner by the pool one evening, and also set up our own private breakfast at a look out point which were both lovely experiences. This hotel is brilliant if you want a very quiet, secluded spot in the Hill Country with excellent service and food. It is an expensive hotel but it is worth the money.
- Danny (8/5): Beautiful property and generally a great stay just let down by the mam - Beautiful setting and amazing gardens Very disappointed with the manager, all he seemed interested in was us visiting the tea factory, not what you expect from a hotel of this standard. He was quite insistant and it just seemed thats all he was interested in. I witnessed him do exactly the same with other guest that arrived and even took our's and there driver to one side to tell them that we should visit their tea factory. Very strange.
- Tammy (8/5): Beautiful! - The view at Nine Skies was absolutely stunning! The food was delicious and served with a generous amount. Staff were very polite and warm. It is a beautiful bungalow and I was very lucky to be experiencing the place. The room was VERY warm, especially when we were provided with a thick duvet. We were only told at our check out that there was some issue with the air-conditioning. I feel that they should have told us at the beginning of our stay. So, sleep was not quite comfortable. Plates in the room were not cleaned up until afternoon [only after we had to call them again]. However, this is not an attack to the place, It's just my honest review from my stay. It's still a great pleasure to be able to stay at 9 Skies. And wishing everyone there the very best.
- Demi (10/5): Magical! - Everything about this property was sensational & our experience was perfect from start to finish. The property itself is beautiful & cosy. We had full board and ate & drank like kings. Worth every penny. I would go back just for the food - the chef is amazing. Service was 5* and everything was tailored to us.
