Guest Reviews
- William (10/5): - My stay at Dar Badiaa was excellent. The warm welcome, genuine hospitality, and comfortable accommodation made my visit truly memorable. Thank you for your kindness and for making me feel at home. I highly recommend this lovely guesthouse and hope to return again soon.
- melis (10/5): Highly recommend! - The hotel was extremely authentic, and I can’t express our positive thoughts about the staff enough; they are awesome! Cleaned our room, offered water, and as we were checking out we didn’t have cash but they tried their best to help us for the payment. Nothing
- Walid (10/5): - I had a wonderful stay at Dar Badiaa. The hospitality was exceptional from the moment I arrived, and the hosts made me feel truly welcome. The accommodation was comfortable, clean, and full of charm, creating a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere. I would like to thank the entire team for their kindness, warmth, and attention to detail throughout my stay. I highly recommend Dar Badiaa to anyone looking for an authentic and memorable experience, and I would be delighted to stay here again in the future.
- Nicola (10/5): Gorgeous property in Sousse old town - Lovely oasis in old town of Sousse. Helpful English speaking host who went out of his way to help with anything we needed. Large spacious ornately decorated rooms. Lovely outdoor seating areas great rooftop views. Nothing
- Irina (9/5): Authentic stay - The staff is very helpful and friendly, especially Amine, we are really thankful for his assistance! The room is exactly as it is in the picture, the bed is very big and comfortable, and so are the pillows (which does not happen much). Breakfast was absolutely delicious! For me as not an early bird it was a bit noisy in the morning because of early birds being out for their breakfast. However, I’d rather consider it my problem. Also please keep in mind that there is no reception, please try to be as accurate as possible with your arrival time (was not a problem for me personally, Amine helped us finding our way as well).
Alles home made!
- Naheed (8/5): - Beautiful traditional home in the Medina. We enjoyed our stay
- Marko (9/5): Very nice traditionally decorated house with a panoramic terrace. - Very nice traditionally decorated house with a panoramic terrace.
Nice, communicative and helpful host.
The first evening we were invited to their (also very beautiful) restaurant for a cup of tea - really nice and warm experience. We had some smaller issues with slower internet connection.
We missed some shelves or hooks to store bathroom accessories - it took some improvisation.
- Mai (9/5): Beautiful traditional house in the medina - The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is great and very close to the medina. It's a traditional and beautiful house, with a nice rooftop and courtyard. A spacious room full of history with antique furniture. Breakfast was great. Wifi
- Matthew (10/5): Stunning - Beautiful building. Our room was stunning & the common areas were wonderful. The courtyard was wonderful and calm to read a book and have breakfast. The rooftop gave a great view of Sousse - though quickly got very hot in the sun. The staff were very polite and helpful. Tiles, bougainvillea, arches, crenellations. The perfect kind of place to match imagery of North Africa. Breakfast was only so so. But as it was included, and we're not huge breakfast eaters it was fine. Maybe better quality black coffee would be worthwhile.
- Masad (5/5): -
- Barbara (9/5): Riad bellissimo!
- Cherene (7/5): Pretty Old House in Center of Medina - The location is wonderful. The old house is very pretty and the room was large although a bit odd. The young man who checked me is was lovely and he helped me with my luggage to get out of the medina, which I really appreciated. The woman who made the breakfast was very sweet and it is a nice breakfast. Overall a nice enough place but needs a bit of work. See below. There was no place to hang clothing and no towel hooks so there was no place to hang a wet towel. The Bed had no sheets or blanket on it, but there was one of each folded at the end. I put the sheet on and chose the lighter of the blankets available and put these on the bed. When the housekeeper cleaned my room, she took these off and I had to again put them on my bed. I found this really strange and I really didn't want to have to do that each time. The pillows were not comfortable. There was a large pillow (the kind one doesn't normally sleep on...it looked decorative) and a small decorative one. No regular pillows. Also I woke one morning to hear the owner's mother screaming at the woman who cleans and does the breakfast. It wasn't pleasant and doesn't reflect well on owners. The second I appeared of course, all smiles.
- Shamita (2/5): - The staff were very nice and helpful The rooms were awful - we skipped using the shower as there was no shower stall and the bathroom door wouldn't close
The bed was very high and they left a bench to climb which was terrible for my knees . Sheets were not changed - they just left it on the bed and not sure if the blankets were washed after the last use
- Florence (9/5): -
- Alessia (10/5): - The property is in the heart of Sousse Medina and everything was walkable distance. The room was clean and as described in the picture. Breakfast is also included, and the stuff is super nice and friendly! I would suggest to insert some indication for parking the car to the nearest point of the guesthouse location and to contact before to check what time the guests are arriving
- Peter (8/5): Authentic living with charm. - Authentic, friendly hosts. The interior was traditional, without modern comforts. Breakfast. Use of kitchen. Misses some of the modern comforts. Asked for a kettle but didnt work well. Bed was hard.
- Kate (10/5): - Beautiful building. You get the feeling that this was someone’s much loved home. We met Badiaa - she is the owner’s super friendly mother, and she makes breakfast (she gave us a hug and kisses when we left). She has also now opened an excellent restaurant in another special building around the corner - apparently she was always cooking for lots of people for iftar so decided to keep going!
- Fridey (10/5): -
- McMahon (9/5): -

- ying (1/5): Dirty accommodations not recommended - Inside old town Dirty bedings pillows carpet. Extremely dirty shared kitchen.
- ying (1/5): This is a low value hotel. - Inside the old town This is an old antique like hotel. The bed was so high and all the bedings and pillows and curtains and the carpet were dirty and smell bad. There was a deep bathtub with no shower. The toilet kept running water. There used to be a shared kitchen which was terribly dirty all over the stove and pot the cabinet the carpet. I couldn’t believe that our breakfast was cooked there. The management guy collected cash payment and promised to give receipt at evening time but he didn’t.
- xijia (3/5): - The 1st morning breakfast was good. The day of leaving, we had early breakfast bags that was nice. Did not notice only cash accepted. Canceled next booking right away due to lack of cash on hand. Once settled down, more problems showed. The room was weird, The bed was over one meter high, 3 sides against walls. Needed to get up on a bench than to the bed, very inconvenient. The carpets in room were tripping hazards, easily to trip on edges of carpets. There was none decent table or desk in room, had to eat outside. In March it was still cold outside. AC was high on the wall, could not warm room enough. Kitchen was very dirty, especially the floor mat, far away from today's urban life standards. We chose it due to its location and good reviews. However the location within medina not suit for everyone. Taxis could not enter, we had to pull luggage on the rocky small roads in rain to find it. For something we WhatsApp the hotel a few times, but never got any response. The price was about the same of other luxury hotels in the city, but the cost was much over it could offer.
- Louise (10/5): A beautifully decorated hotel - Dark Badiaa is beautifully decorated and has a great rooftop to watch relax on and watch the sunset.
Breakfast was great, location in the heart of the Medina is a good place to be. The hot water wasn't working during our visit.
- Sarah (9/5): A comfortable and authentic Tunisian stay - This was a beautiful guesthouse, the rooms and inner courtyard were decorated exquisitely and breakfast was a generous assortment of sweet and savoury dishes.
We found the room very comfortable and the rooftop terrace was an absolute highlight. This property is located in the heart of the Medina, only a short walk to the Ribat and traditional Tunisian restaurants, and we would highly recommend if you’re looking for an authentic Sousse experience. Amine and other staff were very kind and helpful throughout our entire stay. There was no hot tub as was described in the property details, and we were unaware that cash was the only way to pay for the room at the end of our stay. Other than that, it was a fantastic experience!
- Amanda (9/5): -
- Polly (7/5): Perfect if you’re looking for an photogenic stay. - Located in the medina, this traditional accommodation offers a lovely terrace, pretty bedrooms and access to the main attractions in Sousse. The staff were not available, they didn’t provide any information about the town. The breakfast was the exact same each morning. The wifi was very poor. It is not accessible via car. The bathroom was small and impractical.
- Tiziano (10/5): - Accoglienza, professionalità, gentilezza
- Ilse (10/5): Perfect location, great staff and delicious breakfast. - Perfect location, very welcoming staff and delicious breakfast! Nothing was too much trouble for Amine, who helped us during our stay and made sure everything was perfect. They even arranged balloons for my birthday as a surprise! Nothing
- Raheal (9/5): If you want the real Tunis/Tunisia this is the place. - Traditional Tunisian style building featured in the national newspaper.
Staff lady was very attentive to our needs and the boss Umar was very generous with a token gateau cake welcome and allowed us to leave the bags for half a day after checkout as we managed to get in a very very short trip to Kaouirain.
5 min walk to the biggest and oldest mosque in town , the biggest showcase around and a further 5-10 min walk to the cornich. And Ofcourse the old souq which is adjacent to the mosque. Nothing
- Majdi (10/5): Lovely as always - Unique Nothing
- Rubén (10/5): -
- Patrick (10/5): - Good breakfast, relaxed vibe ,friendly owners. Nothing.
- darato_s (8/5): -
- Santhya (7/5): Great stay, it was very accessible to the beach and restaurants. - Pretty interior of the riad and the room was very spacious. Bathroom and toilet and sink were all seperate so very convenient. Breakfast was a big variety of tunisian food. The hostess was very helpful and carried our suitcases up the stairs. We were not greeted on arrival and had to wait for someone else to open the door. The address wasn’t the clearest so the taxi dropped us off on the main road and we didn’t know we had to walk through a maze to find it.

Top! Tutto è all'altezza delle suggestioni presentate nelle immagini semplicemente perfetto
- Teresa Hoffmann (10/5): Very comfy Beautiful Calm place with a Great view and close to the main Places - It is a beautiful calm place in the middle of the Medina. It is a small Hotel which is very comfy. It has beautiful rooms which very nice, big comfy beds and Everything is very spacecious. Great Roof top view!
- Neda (9/5): - The stuff was kind and helpful
The breakfast is delicious
The location is in the city center
The room and the house is beautiful I booked the room for two nights and they didn't charge the shampo and bath shower
- Markus (10/5): -
- Wiame (10/5): - The place is clean the staff is so warm and nice makes you feel lile you are in a tunisian house, the location is great close to almost everything in the heart of medina but still very calm and peaceful.
- Alex (10/5): - Fantastic location and a gorgeous, traditional building. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
- Gilles (5/5): Go there if you are backpackers. Forget this place if you want some confort - Gives an idea of a traditional house Cleanness: we could not dare putting anything in the fridge so greasy it was
Lack of professionalism of the owner, watching YouTube in the middle of the night and in the courtyard where no sound insulation exist between the courtyard and the room
Mosque is very close so you will be waken up at around 5
- Sinxay (10/5): - Gentillesse du personnel
Qualité des équipements
Petit-déjeuner Emplacement
- Karim (10/5): -
- Mario (10/5): -
- Pantidis (9/5): - The hospitality. The hotel reminds me of the real Tunisia. The people working are nice and friendly.
- Samar (10/5): - Everything was perfect, the decorations, the accessories, the lights, the bedrooms.. the traditional Tunisian designs are perfectly serviceable. I surely recommend this facility if you wish to feel the hint of the Tunisian culture
- Eva (9/5): -
- leosalzi (10/5): - Super Lage mitten in der Medina, tolle Dachterrasse -
- Francesco (10/5): Soggiorno fantastico - Accoglienza e disponibilità oltre il comune
- Mohamad Nawar (10/5): Beautiful location and villa with great and welcoming staff, especially Yasmine who was lovely and helped us. - Very convenient location, it’s nearby the old souq and markets and main square. The rooms were tidy and beautiful and the cleanliness was minted throughout our stay. The decorations were breathtaking and gave an authentic and traditional atmosphere. Nothing.
- Kenth (6/5): -
- Agata (10/5): Stay here for amazing Tunesian hospitality - This is such an amazing place, I've been raving about it to everyone! The Dar is just beautiful, it's such a treat to stay in such unique place. Beds are HUGE and very comfy. Breakfast is fantastic and very filling. The place even has its own turtle! But the best thing about our stay was the staff. I don't speak French so didn't interact much with Omar but would like to stress his kindness and hospitality when he invited all 6 people staying at the Dar to his own home to celebrate Eid Al-Adha with us. It was such a privilege and incredible insight into Tunesian culture. Also big shout out to lovely Yasmin who made breakfasts so special and patiently answered all my questions and to Tarek who was always at hand when I needed advice, help or just felt like chatting (his English is great). They are both awesome. Also special thanks to Tarek's mum who brought us homemade dinner on Eid Al-Adha so we wouldn't be hungry in the evening. ❤️ We felt like cherished family members, not just clients. Thank you! Everything was great.
- Luka (10/5): Perfect stay! - Location is in the center of Medina and interior of the hotel rooms are built in tje traditional way. I was very happy to stay here!
- Kononoff (9/5): -
- Ilies (10/5): - L’hôte Rien
- Ilies (10/5): - La beauté du lieu Rien
- Salim (10/5): - Très bien... ça vaut le détour
- Majdi (10/5): - Unique and traditionally Staff very helpful
- Johan (10/5): - Beautiful, authentic rooms, very central. Yasmin was fantastic and a great help. The biggest asset to the guest house Nothing to complain about
- Wendy (6/5): It’s a nice property, but they seem to be working out some of the logistics of running it as a hotel. - It’s a beautiful old house. There’s a roof terrace with a great view. The booking website said that I’d be charged half of the cost to my credit card, but the staff said that wasn’t true and I needed to pay the full amount in cash at the end. To be fair, most places outside of Tunis wanted full payment in cash, but it was confusing because I wasn’t sure if there would also be a credit card charge, according to the website. There was no one in the property at night. One staff member gave us his phone number and said we could call if we needed to. Someone came in during the day and brought new sheets (not sure why) but did not make the bed. We had to put the sheets on the bed. They also did not bring toilet paper so we had to hunt through other rooms to find some. The owner, who also just opened a restaurant around the corner, showed us to the restaurant and then decided to sit down and eat his dinner with us uninvited.
- Julia (4/5): Disappointing, would not recommend. - Staff friendly, but only speaks Arabic, so simple things like requesting extra towels and toilet paper became challenging.
Location, unique style of accommodation - Issues with payment, owner didn't reply to messages due to langue barriers and ended up sending his cousin who thankfully could speak English. Booking.com confirmation says 50% of payment will be taken after reservation, which is not true and they take the full payment only in cash. We were hold in limbo for nearly 24 hours, no reply to messenger and whatsapps. Very poor customer service.
- Room not ready besides letting them know about our arrival hours in advance - Staff started to clean while we were waiting outside, which made us doubt the room amd bathroom being properly cleaned.
- Dirty floor and carpets, felt very unhygienic
- Breakfast: Stale cake, oily pancakes, cheap condiments that were re-used every day. It wasn't to our taste at all. Compared to our other accommodations, it was very poor quality.
- The kitchen where breakfast was prepared was an absolute dirt hole, the fridge absolutely filty
- Matress incredibly hard and uncomfortable
- Ammar (9/5): Cute, peaceful, welcoming people!!! - You would never think this magical door to the Dar of Badiaa would truly be filled with luck and happiness. The Dar is located in a quiet residential area
Of the madina. It’s a fantastic stroll from Bab el Jadid to the Dar because you walk through endless shopping options and many old maintained stores, businesses, and mosques. We spent 3 days at Dar Badiaa we we always found something to explore and enjoy in the Madina. People quickly became familiar with who you are, and always greet you when they see you.
Dar Badiaa is a guest house, it’s not a 5 star resort. It’s a beautiful home that you can truly see is maintained on trust and love, as you see this displayed on the character of all the rooms, the seating areas, the rooftop arrangements, and the smiles of the staff!
The rooms are beyond cute, very homely comfortable giving you a small glimpse to how families ones lived in this Dar. The breakfast is light l, with several several healthy options, much of which is homemade, topped off with traditional Arabic coffee.
Be sure to consider Dar Badiaa for your stay in Sousse. You will find several modern Hôtel properties throughout Sousse and along the ocean front. However, to be welcomed and be treated like family… we recommend Dar Badiaa. Omar, Radiaa, and Tarek along with some other staff behind the scenes… will make sure you feel at home with their generous Tunisian hospitality! Not kidding… you will be introduced to their friends and family with pride and admiration, and the smiles are just genuinely contagious.
Shoukran habibi Omar, and family! Each room should consider having (1) A safe to keep personal valuables such as passports and money, (2) Each bathroom should consider having the shower separate from the toilet, (3) Storage available to unpack luggage.
The online advertising should be updated to clearly mentioned cash payment only for the room, because credit payment card is not available.
However, these are small suggestions. We were very happy overall. Thank you.
- Neslihan (4/5): - Location It was very dirty and the employee did not speak English.
- Younès (10/5): Unique experience in Madina - Lovely staff, unique experience in the heart of el Madina, very good breakfast 👌
- Farnaz (9/5): Lovely stay in a traditional house - Dar el Badiaa is a beautiful traditional house in the center of the Sousse medina. The staff, specially Radia and Tareq are wonderful and will help you with everything that you’ll need. It felt like getting the keys from a relative and staying at their house for holidays.
The building is old but very charming and the rooftop is fantastic for having a late night tea or just relaxing.
The staff are very helpful and will provide anything that you’ll need with great hospitality.
Breakfast was great and plenty which sustained us through the day until dinner time. Radia made sure we got everything we liked for breakfast every morning! The owner and staff also work at their restaurant Dar el Habib which is very close to Dar Badiaa and if you need something and cannot find anyone at the hotel you can certainly find them there which is good to know prior to your arrival.
- Chuen Leong (10/5): Good experience staying in a traditional house - The room is very clean and the bed is comfortable. They gave me a room at the top floor and the roof has a nice view of the city.
The staffs did a great job and the breakfast is very good. They added cheese in my omelette and the coffee is good.
No TV, but wifi is working well.
Warm water take a few mins to be ready.
They also have a restaurant one minute walk away. Transport cannot get you in the souk, you have to drag your luggage through a 10 min walk from the main road but it’s ok.
- Μαρια (8/5): - the building has an amazing Tunisian architecture with open yard and a beautiful rooftop with view.
The spot is very convinient, in Medina of Sousse and very close to all. The room wasn't for my taste, too much decorated and traditional. It was a bit difficult to relax. Not a shiny room.
However if you want to feel like a former Tynisian King is perfect :P
The breakfast was OK.
- Serge (9/5): - La chambre du haut ds laquelle j'étais,
L'emplacement dans le médina,
Personnel sympa,
- Liam (10/5): Absolutely fantastic - This place is amazing!!! Great breakfast, insanely beautiful rooms, really cannot say enough good about this dar. Nothing!
- Nedad (10/5): A house to fall in love with - Dar Badiaa is one of the nicest houses I have ever been to. It is a wonderful Andalusian dar that reminded me of dars and riads in Marrakesh. It is wonderfully preserved and restored with a lot of beautiful antiquities and details. The house is a true historical jewel! The room and the traditional Tunisian bed were comfortable. The bathroom is simple, but serves its purpose. The breakfast was more than good, with a variety of local Tunisian food freshly prepared by a nice breakfast lady. Dar Badiaa is situated in a lovely and authentic alley in the wonderful Medina of Sousse. I would always return there!
- KIEU-OANH (2/5): Logement ideux!! - Chambre spacieuse.
- Norberto (1/5): -
- Mariella (10/5): - The hotel is an authentic Tunisian house where we were welcomed very heartly. The position is excellent, inside the medina and breakfast abundant and delicious
