- Nathalie (10/5): Rustige plek vlakbij het strand! - Superaardige host. Mooie locatie, heel relaxed.
Vielen Dank nochmal
- Rebeca (10/5): Wonderful relaxing stay - Lovely family-owned cabana close to the most beautiful beaches and lagoon, all within walking distance. Great food and friendly service. Big comfortable bed. The perfect place to relax and see wildlife, including turtles 🐢, iguanas, peacocks 🦚 and other birds 🦅 It was all great 😊
- Kyra (10/5): Great stay at turtle island cabana - We had a really great stay at turtle island cabana. The owner was super welcoming and caring. Also, we had the best experience with turtle watching at night. The owner works for the turtle watch and has a lot of respect for the animals and made sure we saw them well without disturbing too much and he has a lot of knowledge. He could really guide us on the beach at night, which I think made the experience way better than for other people that came to watch turtles. Also, the room is nice and the place is quiet, breakfast was delicious. Location is great, it's only a short walk to the beach. Nothing.
- Amy (10/5): We only stayed one night, but it was one of the most memorable parts of our trip. From the moment we arrived, we were we - Everything, it was small and personal. Lovely view, quiet remote town and amazing host There wasn’t anything to dislike
- Jennifer (10/5): - The hosts were amazing and really looked after us. The accommodation is simple but clean and comfortable with good working air conditioning and WiFi and lovely surroundings. The breakfast was amazing. Rekawa is quite small and secluded but the best place to go if you want to see turtles - you really feel like you’re in a quiet corner of paradise. Our host was also part of turtle watch and couldn’t have been more helpful-we felt like VIPs!
- Edwards-heathcote (10/5): Exceptional - If Sri Lanka is the pearl of the Indian Ocean, then this Cabana is the pearl of Sri Lanka. What a moving experience staying here has been from start to finish. You have made us feel like family from the moment we arrived, and the care you have shown us is absolutely unforgettable. Wasantha, your passion and care for nature is wonderful, and your enthusiasm is contagious. We have never experienced hospitality like it. Niror, your cooking was the best food we have tasted in Sri Lanka - melt-in-your-mouth, the spice - it was sublime! Listening to the birds singing, the thunder rolling, and your daughter singing whilst sitting amongst the palms was magical. Witnessing the sea turtles last night was a once-in-a-lifetime experience we will never forget. No words do it justice!
ස්තුතියි from the bottom of our hearts - we will be back, and we are sending anyone visiting Sri Lanka to you!
BOHOMA STHUTHI WASANTHA & NIROR 🧡 Nothing - absolute perfection
- Brigid (10/5): Relaxing accommodation with fantastic hosts - A lovely rural place to stay with only two rooms set in a pretty, wildlife friendly garden. Our breakfasts were tasty and our evening meals were vey generous. Wasantha arranged a lively early morning bird watching trip at a bird sanctuary. It was so peaceful and excellent value. Turtle watch was just as other described it! Do visit the rock pool which in early April was at its most calm and safe before 1030 am. It is a beautiful unspoilt coast here though the seems was rather rough for us.
- Eulalia (10/5): Exceptional - Our first minute in tge Turtle Island Cabanen showed us that we were exactly in the perfect place to discover this area, the turtles and to fell even more in love with Sri Lanka. We have never met someone like his owner Uassante: always smiling and trying to be helpful and make you enjoy every minute of your time here. His enthusiasm for his land and the turtles is contagious and we admire him for that. It helps a lot that he himself works for the turtle conservation project, he helped us in every possible way to enjoy the night watching.
Watching the turtle egg laying in the night was amazing and moving and I wished I could have spent the whole night on the beach. How beautifuly did the turtle made sure that the eggs where properly covered. Motherhood is amazing in any form but this one was particulary moving.
Thanks a lot for a great experience.
Also thanks to Niror for the delicious breakfast!! Best roti ever! Birds, peace in the garden, breeze... It's like heaven.
- Christina (10/5): Our favourite stay in Sri Lanka - Our stay at Turtle Island Cabana was our favourite stay in Sri Lanka! Beautiful jungle beach paradise with plenty to explore, wonderful host family, very comfortable room in a pretty garden setting and delicious, varied breakfast each morning. We would highly recommend Turtle Island Cabana - particularly if you're looking for untouched nature, peace and quiet (other than the sounds of peacocks and other birds :)) Wasantha, his wife and daughter continually went the extra mile to make us feel at home, arrange excursions like the lagoon tour and nighttime turtle watching and our travel to our next stay. We loved our stay so much that we ended up extending a further 2 nights and honestly could have stayed longer. Thanks for everything - hope to see you again one day! Greetings from Christina and Lennert. Nothing - it's the best.
- Cecilia (10/5): Exceptional -

- Mike (10/5): A great place to stay near the Turtle Sanctuary - A small chalet located in the Rekawa wetlands area close to the lagoon and ocean.
The owners were very accommodating serving a really good breakfast each morning.
Wasuntha took me on a Tuktuk tour of the wetlands and lagoon showing me the diverse variety of bird life in the area, he is also a warden at the Turtle Sanctuary and assisted in gaining access to see the turtles laying eggs and returning to sea late in the evening which was brilliant. Nothing
- Bollaerts (10/5): Best turtle experience - We stayed for two nights and were truly impressed by the hospitality and kindness of the hosts. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the lovely family, who made us feel right at home. They are such amazing people, and the host is the perfect guide for birdwatching and turtle-watching experiences. The owner also volunteers at the nearby turtle sanctuary, so if you’re looking for the best experience, this is the place to book!
The room was spacious, spotless, and comfortable, and the breakfast was absolutely delicious—one of the best we’ve had. Overall, a fantastic experience that exceeded our expectations!
- Sani (8/5): Sani - The owner is friendly and helpful. A quiet little house in the middle of the forest with a room and a bathroom. Neat. Air conditioning. Good breakfast. You could buy water and soda on the spot if necessary. The best part of our stay was when the owner and I got to watch turtles lay their eggs in the dark under the light of the full moon. The beach was a short walk away. The beach was clean and long. Only a few tourists. The place was a small village. A few good restaurants nearby. Warm recommendation for this place. The nearest small shops were 3 kilometers away.
- Toni (8/5): Great getaway - The location was great and exactly where I wanted to be. The hosts were wonderful and provided great breakfasts, with the added entertainment of wild animals wandering into the garden. Air con worked well. There wasn't hot water in the shower, the weather is warm but I still prefer a warm shower. While the room was cool & dark during the day it was quite light at night.
- Melanie (9/5): A really individualised and unique stay in an exquisite spot. - Turtle cabana was in its own secluded spot surrounded by a beautifully kept garden and only a few km from the main road into Tangalle. Rekawa is its own little area and well known for turtle conservation. The room was big and clean and comfortable. The bathroom was clean and big and the outdoor area had two lovely big chairs and a table for the exquisite breakfast.
The owners were kind, welcoming and were so knowledgeable about the area and happy to provide a Tuk Tuk service.
Only a short walk to the beach! I liked it all.
- Kate (10/5): Exceptional - Our Hosts were AMAZING. Cannot praise enough! Beautiful property, beautiful people. They were so helpful and even guided us to to observe the turtles. The breakfast was a real treat. I can honestly say this was our favourite stay.
- Ilco (10/5): Lovely, heartwarming stay - extremely good value - The local breakfast is outstanding. And you can have it while you’re enjoying the beautiful garden, full of birds and an occasional monkey. The hosts are extremely friendly and helpful. The empty, turtle beach of Rekawa is on a waling distance and the best local restaurant is just 100 meters away. This is a very good choice, very nicely prized too, and you’ll have a brand new ro too! All was perfect
- Chanaka (10/5): Exceptional -
- Guillermo (10/5): Exceptional - Really nice place close to the turtles 🐢, helpful with all the process. You can visit many places and the turtles 🐢 eggs 🥚 nearby
- Elisabeth (10/5): Recommended pearl - This pearl is an amazing place to stay! Wonderful hosts (attentive and has their own tuktuk to show the area), nice room and bed (quality mattress and pillows), perfect location for watching turtles nest at the beach (walking distance), great breakfast (try the pancakes with honey, banana and coconut), and beautiful scenery in the backyard (including various trees/plants, peacocks and butterflies). Highly recommended!
- Richard (10/5): Great time! - Charming and peaceful. My wife and I visited this lovely place to watch the turtles lay their eggs and enjoy the ambience. The cabana is a beautiful new design and very clean. Located in a private and serene area bordering an open paddy field where we saw peacocks and many other birds. The food was amazing, delicious, and great value. They had fresh caught seafood and quite a few different vegetable curries. Very short walk to both the Turtle Beach and the Harbor Beach for swimming. Wasantha and his daughter were so kind to us. Wasantha works for many years with the turtle project, a true expert on the history of turtles in this area. We would love to visit again!
- Kamila (10/5): If you want to experience a peaceful stay among local residents in beautiful undisturbed nature, definitely choose this - The accommodation was absolutely fantastic. We had a small house to ourselves with a garden and a sunbed. The owners are very friendly and nice. You won't get such breakfasts as here anywhere else, excellent. The owner drove us in a tutuk within 1 km for free. He also took us to Turtle night watch Rekawa, when the turtles lay their eggs on the beach. The owners speak English and will arrange everything you need! We became friends! Everything was alright.
