Guest Reviews
- Harvinder (8/5): Unique Jungle location close to Yala - Most people coming here will come for the Yala Safari. The reviews were mixed so we took a chance and we're glad we did. So this place has cabins with three sided glass walls in the jungle (with curtains). The rooms are beautiful, bathrooms functional and food was authentic and made well. Yes the reception area is still under construction and the food took a while to come but the staff really care and try hard. The biggest plus point is how close you get to nature.. through our window we saw an iguana, bats and a mongoose. We were close to Yala and were 2nd in the jeep queue that morning due to the location (we recommend leaving the hotel at 4.30am). For a Yala safari location, this is a good place. It's not luxury but has some unique qualities. We ate lunch by the pool and dinner in our rooms. Note that you have to get your driver to message the hotel when you're 10 mins away so the 4x4 can pick you up. The final 1/4 mile is not suitable for regular cars. Bathrooms can do with an upgrade.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - 🌿 A Magical Escape into the Wild – The Real Essence of Yala! 🌌
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
If you want to truly feel the heart of the Yala jungle, Lōwin Yala is the only place to be. We have stayed in several hotels in the area before, but this experience was on a whole different level! 🦁✨
🍹 An Unforgettable Welcome
From the moment we arrived, the hospitality was incredibly warm. We were served a Welcome Drink that we’ll never forget—a refreshing mix of King Coconut (Thambili), lime, and sugar, topped with fresh strawberry slices 🍓🍋. It was so delicious, it felt like our minds just stood still for a moment!
🛣️ The Mystery Walk & Wild Culture Design
After a quick check-in, we were led to our room. The 50-meter walk from the lobby through the thick jungle was magical and full of suspense because the rooms are hidden until the very last second. 🌳🚶♂️
When we finally saw our room, our jaws dropped! 😲 It is designed under the "Wild Culture" theme and is incredibly spacious.
Wooden Luxury: The entire floor is made of wood, and there is a beautiful wooden deck outside with a table and chairs to relax. 🪵🪑
The View: From the Master King Size Bed, the room is designed so you can see the entire surrounding jungle. It’s breathtaking! 🛏️🍃
Rustic Bathrooms: Even the washroom and shower areas are finished with wood, blending perfectly with nature. 🚿
🦌 Peace, Birds, and Wild Guests
The silence here is like a meditation. 🧘♂️ Coming from the busy city, the only sounds we heard were the songs of birds and the calls of wild animals. We were so lucky to see a herd of deer right next to our room in the evening—a moment we honestly can’t put into words! 🦌✨
✨ Stargazing & Magical Dinners
The Pool & Stars: There is a huge swimming pool right in the middle of the jungle 🏊♂️. Sitting on the pool loungers at night, we saw shooting stars and constellations with our naked eye. We have never had an experience like that before!
- Thiran (10/5): 🌟 The Ultimate Yala Experience – A Hidden Gem in the Wild! 🌿 Rating: 100% - Our stay at Lōwin Yala was simply breathtaking! We’ve stayed at several places in Yala before, but this was the first time we truly felt the soul of the jungle. If you're looking for peace, luxury, and nature, this is the place! 🦁✨
🍹 A Refreshing Start
The welcome was so warm and loving. We were served a unique welcome drink made of King Coconut (Thambili) mixed with lime and sugar, topped with fresh strawberry slices 🍓🍋. It was so refreshing that it felt like our minds just paused for a moment!
🛣️ The Mystery Jungle Walk
After check-in, we were led through a 50-meter path into the thick jungle. The way is designed so you can’t see the rooms until the very end, which created such a sense of mystery and excitement 🌳🚶♂️.
🪵 Luxury Meets Nature (Wild Culture Theme)
When we finally saw our room, we were speechless! 😲
Design: The "Wild Culture" theme is stunning. The room is huge, with beautiful wooden floors and a private outdoor deck with a table and chairs 🪵🪑.
The View: The room is designed so you can see the entire jungle even while lying on the Master King Size Bed. It was magical! 🛏️🍃
Rustic Bathrooms: Even the washroom and shower area are beautifully finished with wood, keeping the natural vibe alive. 🚿
🦌 Nature's Meditation
The silence here is like a meditation 🧘♂️. No city noise—just the sounds of birds and wild animals. We were so lucky to see a herd of deer grazing right next to our room in the evening! 🦌✨
🌠 Stars, Pool & Bonfires
Stargazing: There is a massive swimming pool in the middle of the forest 🏊♂️. We spent the night on the loungers, watching shooting stars and constellations with our naked eyes. An experience we’ve never had before! 🌌
Magical Dinner: Our dinner was set outdoors with a glowing bonfire and lanterns all around 🕯️🔥. The atmosphere was simply glowing.
🙌 Heartwarming Staff
The staff here goes above and beyond! ❤️ They work so hard to make sure every guest is happy and comfortable.
- Ishara (10/5): The rooms were spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The area is quiet and pleasant, making it a great place to relax. - Excellent location and friendly staff with amazing food Nothing
- Veronique (4/5): Poor Maintenance, But Friendly Staff - A big thumbs up to Sasanka, who warmly welcomed us and remained kind and attentive throughout our short stay. His hospitality was truly appreciated. We were really looking forward to our stay at Lowin Yala. Unfortunately, the condition of the property fell far short of our expectations.
The “deluxe triple tent” was quite run-down, and the bathroom in particular had significant mold issues. There was also mold on parts of the bedroom curtains. Overall, the place seemed poorly maintained. The pool wasn’t very clean either—while clearly chlorinated, the floor was slippery and felt unkept. The poolside setup was dilapidated and lacked any charm.
We were the only guests during our stay, which meant there was no atmosphere at all. During dinner, our two servers stood by and watched us eat, which felt uncomfortable. The dinner itself was just okay—not memorable.
As for the takeaway breakfast provided for our safari, it was unfortunately inedible: a warm egg and mayo sandwich, an granola bar, and undrinkable coffee. The only saving grace was the fresh fruit, which was delicious.
- salome (8/5): - The lodge is super cozy, comfortable and the terrace was great. Since the hotel is right in the middle of the Park you’ll have few or no options to opt out for the diner / lunch of the hotel that will cost 20$/ menu. The food was good though. The establishment was under construction for the common parts except for the swimming pool. It wasn’t specifically annoying for us but I would have liked to be aware .
- Klara (7/5): - - Sehr freundliches Personal
- Organisieren gegen Aufpreis Dinner
- Tomas (3/5): - Staff was really friedly. The stay was meant for two days but after first night of the stay, I decided to leave the place. The night was interesting with mice scratching the roof and sides of the tent, I understand that we in a wild area, but that was a bit too much.
The place needs renovation, the wifi is only in reception area, no cell reception.
- Catherine (1/5): Un scandale!!
FUYEZ!!!!
- Nimish (3/5): Please dont go by the photos. They dont show tbe real condition, the bathrooms are in a very bad condition, they are st - The only good part is the location and the food. Condition of tne rooms
- Matthias (10/5): -
- Mabelie (1/5): Overpriced resort completely misled - The resort suffered from major damage due to the recent storm. We arrived in a construction area and were not informed beforehand about it. The price was 165 euro for 1 night but there was no place to have dinner or breakfast. The wifi and shower were also not working in our tent and the place is so far away from the next town that we would not have another choice but to eat there .
When we tried to make the manager a decent proposal to compensate us and meet half way they refused and we had no other option then to leave. By then it was 18 PM and getting dark. Traveling with 2 kids but not knowing where to sleep is highly uncomfortable. It got even worse when their driver refused to bringing us back to the main road unless we paid 10K LKR. The road to the hotel was not accessible for regular taxi’s. U need a 4WD. In the end he brought us but it was a horrible experience. If they would have been upfront about the state of the property we would not have lost a day traveling all the way to Yala.
- SILIA TZIMOGIANNIS (4/5): Really bad value for money - Breakfast was excellent. Location was very good. Nature sounds etc. Bathroom was bad. Sheets and curtains were torned out and were full of holes. Minimal toilet paper supply. The shower had a malfunctioning drainage system. No WiFi, but that didn’t matter a lot to us. In general, the room was roughly constructed, no decent materials. The pool was full of things that you wouldn’t want to swim with. Overall, really bad value for money…
- Owen (1/5): Lowin Yala - Avoid at All Costs - We stayed for two nights on 19-20 December 2025 and this was easily one of the worst stays we’ve ever had, let alone one marketed as a “luxury”.
Cash-only upfront payment:
On the day of arrival we were told, without any prior warning, that payment had to be made in cash and upfront. No legitimate luxury property operates like this. We were forced to hunt for cash in nearby towns, wasting time and effort. Every other hotel we stayed at in Sri Lanka accepted cards. At best, this is unprofessional. At worst, it’s a highly suspect practice aimed at avoiding tax. Evidently, they've also now enforced a payment upfront policy, which is itself also suspect as I imagine several other guests have in the past sought to withhold payment due to the conditions on site.
False advertising / construction site:
The listing photos are outright misleading. The communal living space shown online no longer exists. It has been demolished and is currently being rebuilt. The reality is staying on an active construction site, surrounded by builders and their families, with mud and filth everywhere (photos attached). There is also no safe in the room.
Room and bathroom problems:
Bathroom sink completely blocked, draining only by leaking through a crack in the basin onto the floor.
No hot water in the shower and terrible water pressure.
Room was filthy, with floors clearly unwashed.
Stained bedding and pillowcases (photos attached).
No WiFi:
There is no WiFi at all despite free WiFi being advertised. Totally unacceptable for any accommodation, especially one charging premium rates.
Dining chaos:
Because there is no communal space or proper restaurant, meals are eaten outside your room. Staff repeatedly forgot to clear our dishes and also forgot to serve dessert that we were charged for. We had to chase them multiple times. The dessert finally arrived two hours later, at which point we refused it.
Missing basic amenities:
No drinking water in the room on arrival, despite the heat.
- Guido (3/5): Nightmare in the park - The position Old and broken facility, currently a building site. They are showing fake pictures of the dining room that does not exist: the masons sleep there. Air conditioning was leaking, hot water was not working. Food was discussable and dinner very expensive. After my strong complains they gave me a 75% discount on the two dinners. Bonus: you interact with them mostly by Whattsap, but they have no WI-FI and cellular is weak, most of the time not working. Anyway sometimes they don’t even reply making the service a nightmare.
- Sasanka (10/5): Exceptional Stay at Lowin Yala - I had an absolutely exceptional stay at Lowin Yala. The staff were extremely friendly, attentive, and always willing to go the extra mile to make the stay comfortable. The facilities were excellent, clean, and well maintained, creating a very relaxing environment.
The rooms were very comfortable, offering everything needed for a peaceful stay. It was definitely great value for money, and the location was perfect — calm, quiet, and surrounded by natural beauty.
Overall, I had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend Lowin Yala to anyone looking for a memorable and comfortable getaway.
- Claudia (5/5): -
- Lindsey (9/5): Lovely stay because of the lovely staff. - Stayed here for one night beginning of April to do a safari at Yala national park.
The host and staff were really friendly and attentive. Excellent communication before we arrived and during, they arranged our safari before we had arrived. The price of safari was separate but did include full board , breakfast, lunch and dinner and the food was really good.
The room and bed were very comfortable and clean. The host arranged us a taxi to get to our next destination which was really appreciated as the location is remote. The bathroom and toilet were clean but there was an unpleasant smell in bathroom.
Could be something to do with the drainage system in the remote location.
- Sasanka (10/5): "An unforgettable stay in the heart of Yala!" - From the moment we arrived, the hospitality at Lowin Yala was exceptional. The staff were warm, attentive, and made us feel right at home. The tented suites were beautifully designed — blending luxury with nature — and waking up to the sounds of wildlife was magical. The food was delicious, and every detail was thoughtfully curated. We highly recommend this hidden gem to anyone looking for an authentic yet comfortable escape into the wild.
- Nishantha (10/5): Exceptional - Best PooI NA
- Garry (8/5): Bespoke place to stay. Friendly staff. - It’s a bespoke place to stay. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. They took me out on a complimentary short Safari trek. I needed to change my stay date and they agreed without any issues. Thank you. The location is a little off the beaten track.
- Tharuka (10/5): Exceptional -

- Tonny (10/5): Exceptional - Lowin yala hotel is the best hotel to travel yala
This hotel location is best view. Very friendly and super managmet. We can book safari and that experience is awesome... i am highly recommend that hotel Don't have anything to say
- Christina (5/5): I am fit and healthy and very adventurous and loved the whole experience, but would not recommend Lowin Yala to anyone w - First impressions…WOW! It had a great jungle feel, with a massive tent like structure as the main reception area. The swimming pool was warm and luxurious. Everything had to be paid up as soon as you arrived, and they really wanted cash in dollars and a passport, of which I had neither. My room was in a similar tent style, (a solid room with floor, covered in an awning) and had everything you could possibly want. You could sit on the bed, draw back the curtains and really feel at one with the nature. I was offered a relaxing beer at very inflated prices. My taxi driver had to ring the property as his car could not navigate the potholes. The manager came in a truck to pick me up and I had a further 2k of bouncing around over very rough terrain to reach the destination. The complex was clearly struggling, I was the only person there, and I could not order from the menu (I realised later) because there did not appear to be a chef. I was offered a meal at a neighbouring property, (yet a further 4k of bouncing around over potholes, the staff claimed they wanted to give me the ‘open air experience’)…and the same in the evening, by which time, at 77 years old, I was feeling as if I’d been in a washing machine on spin! The electricity gave up and the generator was sporadic until it totally gave up at 3.30 am, when I was desperate for a cup of tea and a shower before the safari. No light, no WiFi, but the bed was gloriously comfortable. The safari jeep broke down twice with battery terminal problems and I sat helpless, fearing that an elephant or buffalo could charge the vehicle without any means of a getaway. Sammy, the safari guide was EXCELLENT, and very knowledgable.
- Kanishka (10/5): Exceptional - I really like this hotel because that place it's very freedom and clam.staff is so friendly and foods also delicious. They treated us well There is nothing to dislike
- Umesh (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing service, very clean room and great attention to detail. For our anniversary, the hotel left a lovely surprise cake for us in our room.
We would like to give a special mention to Nirashan who gave us fabulous service during our stay and also took us on an informative evening jungle walk.
- Bodhinayake (10/5): Exceptional - freedom place
Friendly staff
- Walker (10/5): “Great stay with excellent service, comfortable rooms, and a prime location!” - I had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The staff was friendly and accommodating, and the room was clean and comfortable. The location was perfect, with easy access to local attractions. The breakfast buffet was delicious, and the amenities were great. Highly recommend for anyone visiting the area.
- Marjol (5/5): Passable - The staff is friendly and helpful. The new manager just started a week ago, so perhaps change is under way?
We had a nice view into nature from our house The property is far away from everything - 45min to the park gate and 45min to a paved road
The facilities are tired/old/damaged, and food is basic - all this would be fine for us at a more reasonable price point, it is very expensive for what you get
- Carol (10/5): Perfect for the full glamping experience! - Truly immersed in the park, good privacy, staff was super sweet. The pool looked amazing! No WiFi in the rooms, only in the common area, there are small bugs, and hot water isn’t superrr hot. but remember, you ARE glamping. The point is to get away from the internet and embrace nature!
- Alexandra (4/5): Great location, but the house not worth the money. If it were cheaper, I would accept the shortcomings. - Location was great The smells from the toilet/bathroom which made us asking for another room. In a new one smelled terribly of chemicals, so that we had to remove the thing and air the room for 2 hours before going inside. Besides the shower cabin didn’t work properly, but was fixed later. The manager and the staff did their best to solve the problems.
Breakfast was very disappointing.
- Irenafz (9/5): Superb - Nice comfortable stay in the middle of nowhere. Bad road to the property so they offer a shuttle to pick up on the main road. It takes about 20 minutes to get to the entrance to Yala National Park. We received breakfast for take away and it was plentiful and good. Fix the air conditioning and I'll be back for sure. Kind regards to the staff The air conditioner didn't work, it didn't cool and water was dripping from it directly onto the bed.
- Giorgio (9/5): Very relaxing place in a peaceful green area. Worth the stay - In the middle of a very green area, not far (20 minutes) from the park entrance, a strange mix of tents and bungalows of big size, very comfortable, with Minifridge, hai dryer, etc. Very well equipped. Friendly and welcoming staff, nice swimming pool. Good food avaialable. Very relaxing Main tent (hall/restaurant) a bit run down with very dim light. area around the pool not really taken care of. The last 1,5 km from the main road not accessibile to saloon cars. Restaurant service a bit slow.
- Eyad (4/5): Disappointing -
- Samudra (10/5): Place is very beautiful and freedom I recommend lowin yala hotel to all of you - This place is very freedom.
- Sarah (9/5): Great experience - Little off the beaten track experience. Nice friendly staff and pool with sun lungers and good shade. Meals prepared fresh as required. Early morning safari a must.
- Bodinayake (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lauren (8/5): Quiet stay in the forest - The room was large and amazing, you are sleeping in the forest surrounded by nature and greenery, a great experience! The staff were super lovely and very attentive - service was exceptional!! Thank you to the young man who helped us during our stay :)
A perfect base to visit Yala national park (not much else to do in the area besides this) Food was quite overpriced compared to other hotels with the same costs, also small portions. I Understand it is a Glamping experience, but the pool and restaurant area could be more updated so that it matches the premium price of staying here.
- Monika (10/5): we highly recommend this place and will definitely return. ☺️🙏❤️ - Since our arrival, we have been treated with immense respect, and all the staff members are wonderfully pleasant and helpful. The surroundings are a peaceful oasis, the food is incredibly delicious, and the bedroom is very clean. We visited a safari, and the hotel assisted us with a driver and a guide—which allowed us to see elephants and even a leopard in the wild! A heartfelt thank you for such a wonderful welcome and unforgettable experiences; we highly recommend this place and will definitely return. ☺️🙏❤️
- Marasinghe (10/5): Exceptional - Its wanderful place i have visited in yala, its feel that i was in the midle jungle with a bed, sach as fully glass bed room can see all the beautiful brides small animals, the walking parth to the restaurant you here brides sound, nice stsff goog food the boss is also a nice person he gave as free transport we wish all the best to this lowin yala hoyel and recommend Very good peoples very place
- Salome (1/5): Bad - Cancelled the booking very last minute (on the day) even tough we called twice to confirm….
- Sampath (10/5): Exceptional - Its given real experience of living in jungle, preserved wilderness around the premises given an extra value.
Its an ideal place to relax in the jungle.
- Zainab (10/5): Exceptional - Our stay was nothing short of exceptional, with every detail meticulously taken care of.
The administrative staff, especially Sasini, was incredibly helpful and courteous, coordinating with us from the very beginning to ensure a seamless experience. The entire support staff went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable. They booked our Yala safari, provided us with excellent snacks, and arranged a fantastic driver for the safari, ensuring we had the best experience exploring the wilderness.
For anyone looking to indulge in luxury while being surrounded by nature, Lowin Yala is the ideal choice. Highly recommended!

- Bruno (9/5): Superb - Location was amazing, staff was amazing, the rooms in the middle of nature were pretty awesome!! A little note to Ruwan who made sure our stay was always the best it could be!!
- Jeroen (7/5): Right next to Yala park - Very friendly and professional staff. Comfy beds and right in the middle of the jungle. The staff knows a lot about Yala National park and we even got to talk about the names and variety of Leopards living there. This was our most expensive stay in Sri Lanka. The pictures showed us a romantic and luxurious stay but unfortunately the property is not yet fully up to standard for its price range.
