Guest Reviews
- Rene (9/5): - Mir hat es soweit gut gefallen, frühstück war auch ok. Es waren leider keine Parkplatz Möglichkeiten am Hotel. In den späten Abendstunde war es ein wenig laut gewesen.
- Thaneli (10/5): -
- Wolfgang (8/5): -
- maria (6/5): Good enough - Interior Was nice. Brilliant location. Lovely staff Hard beds, nowhere to sit in the room unless you are on your own, or in the bed. It was dirty under the bed, it had been a while since they swept under there.
- Ivona Stefania (1/5): - The only positive aspect was the location, as the property is situated in the Old Town. The worst experience I’ve ever had regarding accommodation during a vacation.
The place is not “luxury” at all as it claims to be. Starting from dirt, rust, and mold to towels that were completely worn out, already with fringes on the edges. Breakfast is way too basic — we only went the first day, and afterwards we preferred to eat somewhere else every morning.
I booked a “Junior Suite” that smelled so strongly of mold that it was unbearable to stay there. After one night, I asked for a refund, preferring to sleep in the car until we found another place. Of course, they refused and at best offered us a much smaller room, slightly more decent in terms of cleanliness, but the price difference was never refunded. The internet is terrible, and I should mention that in the first room it didn’t work at all and there was no hot water!
The staff was never there, and only sometimes in the evening a man would show up, who doesn’t speak English. We also saw other new guests trying to reach someone at the reception without any success.
I do not recommend!!!

- STEFANOS (10/5): Hospitality and heritage at their finest - Exceptionally clean, with warm and welcoming hosts. The hotel is a true gem of local Venetian architecture, beautifully restored with respect for its historical value. The restoration itself sets a fine example of how historic buildings can be preserved, while offering comfort and elegance. A place we would happily return to!
- Emmylou (10/5): perfect location, friendly staff - location was perfect, walking distance to the city center and a delicious restaurant right beside it
- Chris (5/5): In need of a significant overhaul. Rethymno itself was lovely but this place was a disappointment. - Location was fine, with all the restaurants and attractions of Rethymno within a few mins walk. Room was of a good size and had a terrace at the back, which provided fresh air and meant we didn't suffer from any street noise from the local restaurants. Unfortunately "Luxury Boutique" is now a misnomer. Clearly they are still living off past ratings - prominent sign at check-in "Booking.com rating 9.5" from several years ago. As I write this, the rating is down to 7.6 and that feels quite a lot too high judging by our stay.
No option to have breakfast before 9.00 - too late to allow full days out across the island. The food at breakfast was adequate, but nothing we couldn't have bought at a local supermarket. Bedroom was in need of an upgrade - a number of lights in the bathroom didn't work, there was only one bedside light, the mattress and bedding felt old, we had to download a manual over the internet to figure out the aircon controls and the room (and more importantly the bathroom waste bin) was only cleaned after FOUR days. We also had a cockroach in the room and there was evidence of another in the courtyard downstairs.
- Boguslawa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sebastian (2/5): Very poor - We had a cockroach in the room, when we came back from dinner at our first night. The staff didn't understand English and just said sorry, when we showed him the picture. As nothing done about it, we didn't want to stay any longer(we booked 3 nights). Also the bath looked very used and smelled funny. Furthermore the staff smoked in the lobby were we the breakfast was to be served in the morning. Till today we didn't get our money back.
- Shirley (10/5): As usual we had a lovely stay in this beautiful perfectly located hotel. The staff are lovely and very attentive - Everything Steps up to our room are a little steep and might benefit from a handrail
- Helen (3/5): Good position but could have been better considering the price. - The position was great and parking not far away. It was quite expensive but we expected that because it was a hotel in the old town and you cannot drive into the old town. Considering that it was supposed to be a ‘luxury boutique ‘ hotel and that the price was quite high there were various negative issues. First, there was rarely anyone in reception and nobody answered the internal phone when we couldn’t get the air conditioning to work because nobody had shown us on arrival or get the safe to work because they didn’t give us a key! Our room was on the top floor with no lift and nobody to help carry our cases up. The room was dark and dated. No electrical sockets near a mirror so difficult to dry hair. The lady was nice but couldn’t speak much English and the breakfast was adequate. Sorry
- Andrei (4/5): Glad we only stayed for one night - The only saving grace was the location and the staff. First of all, there was no parking space available at the property, even though it was mentioned so. We had to drive around the old town for at least one hour and a half as most parking areas were already full. We found a parking lot 15 min away and it didn’t help that it was pouring.
The bath wasn’t very clean and the door to the toilet could not fully close cuz it would get jammed.
Not sure exactly how this would be advertised on booking as a 4 or 5 star but it shouldn’t even get 3 imo.
The breakfast was decent.
- Mihaiu (9/5): Superb - The place was excellent and quite unique. Our room had an indoor spa/hammam which was real nice. The whole vibe of the hotel was awesome. I wish there was more information regarding the parking, as you cannot park near the hotel (something to keep in mind). The nearest parking is not far, though, but you it's a paid one (quite costly if you're staying multiple days) or you could park on the street and walk for about 7-10 minutes (not that much luck finding a parking spot).
- Denise (7/5): Pleasant - The old building does look nice as a hotel The water not being available
- Joshua (9/5): Open your pores to Rethymno - Location was fantastic. The room was big, and there was a Hammam in the room. Great spot to explore Rethymno town from. NA
- Harris (7/5): Good - The location was good, in the center of the old town. Also there was parking close by. The room was good, however not for a 5 star hotel. When we arrived we had to wait for someone to open the hotel door for us. Also the room was not cleaned and the towels not changed daily as one would expect from a 5 star hotel. However the breakfast lady and the reception gentleman were very polite and friendly which compensated for the above.
- Olympia (1/5): Complete disappointment. - Very mediocre. The only positive aspect of the hotel was its location.
Staff was polite. 1. No elevator, acceptable only if you stay on the 1st floor.
2. The closet smelled of mold.
3. The water pressure in the bathroom was very weak.
4. The only window in the room faced the communal stairwell, making it impossible to hang swimsuits and beach towels to dry.
5. The air conditioning was extremely noisy, making it impossible to sleep with it on (and impossible to sleep without it during hot August nights).
6. We encountered cockroaches in the room twice (large ones).
7. The daily room cleaning was average at best.
8. The breakfast was very mediocre.
- Elpida (9/5): It is recommended to those who want to be downtown to a special hotel - The location was perfect and the staff very helpful The parking was a problem
- Charlotte (8/5): Very good - Beautifully renovated building. Nice lobby area which was convenient and comfortable for us to work from. The wardrobe was full of stuff - leaving almost no room for our clothes.
- Oleg (10/5): Exceptional - modern design, great location!
- Maria (9/5): Superb - Excellent location and very good rooms with a lot of space and very comfortable beds! The staff were very polite and made sure everything was great!!!
- Sarah (8/5): Very good - Stylish comfortable room in central old town. We parked as directed in the public car park nearby, but the next day the car was blocked by the market and we could not leave until the afternoon. Pity the hotel didn't warn us.
- Julia (10/5): Another perfect stay at the bellargio boutique hotel - Everything was amazing. Not only to look at as the design is creative without losing the 16th century image. Basically a walk through time. Relaxed atmosphere. Your own door to the hotel as well as the rooms but an attentive owner and son meant you have all you need. This was our second visit. We wanted to try different rooms. Not only did we get a huge room at a better value and with character than you would get at any hotel, we also had a patio and a roof top area to use just for us Can't think of a single thing
- Yiota (1/5): Bad - The location. Very close to all shops and restaurants. The room was really very dirty, no clean towels and with bad smell. The bathroom was dirty too. We found cockroach in the room and a lot of mosquitoes This is definetely not a 'luxury' hotel. Not recommended.
- Pauline (9/5): Lovely small hotel in the centre of the old town of Rethymno - We only stayed here 1 night but it is a beautiful small hotel in the centre of the old town of Rethymno. It is in an excellent location with lots of bars, tavernas, shops and restaurants nearby. Despite this there was no problem with noise. The room was spacious, well decorated and very comfortable with everything we needed for our stay. The air-conditioning worked very well which was just as well as we were in the middle of a heatwave. The staff were very friendly. The breakfast was a typical European style buffet, which was plenty for us It wasn't a problem for us, but all the rooms involve going up 1/2 flights of stairs.
- Tamsin (9/5): A fantastic last minute refuge for rest while my husband was in the local hospital - Beautiful Venetian building (1600s). Spacious room, lovely terrace outside with good parasol and sofa
- Nikolaos (8/5): Very good -
- Julie (5/5): Passable - Location for amenities, ease of parking nearby, large room. Room requires maintenance and updating, especially the bathroom. Bed very hard, would benefit from a mattress topper. Breakfast choice plentiful but basic. Despite us wanting a central location and expecting a late night as it was New Years Eve, sleep was impossible until after 4am due to the neighbouring taverna/bar playing loud music!!
- Samo (8/5): Quite unique experience. - It was special in a way, a room had a hammam as well. Breakfast didn't suit the level of the accommodation.
- Samo (8/5): Very good -
- Beth (8/5): Very good - We were upgraded on arrival which was very nice of them
The lady at breakfast was really friendly and very helpful, we were the only ones staying that day I think but there was enough food for many more rooms
- Claus (10/5): Exceptional -
- Prodromos (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elizabeth (10/5): Perfect central and characterful hotel. - Beautiful setting and gorgeous stylish place with helpful staff. X
- Shirley (10/5): As usual this stunning location didn’t disappoint - Its an amazing building in a great location. The staff are so lovely, welcoming and helpful Loved everything
- Edith (8/5): Very good - parking too far
- Annette (5/5): Maria the best of the hotel key good points - Maria she was excellent
part of my stay great as a result of her care Location disco
Saturday night
Through to Sunday morning
All night
Only Suitable for youth audience who don’t want to sleep
- Phil (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vicki (10/5): Fantastic luxury boutique hotel, what a gem - The hotel was gorgeous and in a perfect location.
Decor beautiful and rooms very clean and tidy.
Breakfast was lovely, freshly made orange juice and pastries, omelette to order and breads, meats and cheese were lovely.
Maria is an asset to the hotel and helped us with everything we asked and Marcus the owner can literally not do enough for you. He is an ambassador of the town, so very kind and thoughtful and we would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. It was perfect, the only thing we didn't like was having to leave.
- Laura (8/5): Very good - Amazing location, great host, loved the design. Comfortable nights stay. Room was a bit dark but other than that we had a great experience.
- Anonymous (7/5): Charming Old Town Location, Good Value for the Stay - Great location in the old town. Charming little hotel. The staff was kind and accommodating. It could use some interior updates. It was the middle of summer, and the AC worked, but was not great. For me, this is a “3 star plus property, but not a 4 star.
- Kevin (10/5): Would stay again for definite - Everything was excellent Nothing
- Sara (6/5): The Bellagio creeps up and charms you in the end - Excellent location and a lovely charming building. The staff and owner were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The owner doesn’t speak English, but he really tries to communicate and ask if you are ok. The suite charmed us in the end after a rocky start, but could be brightened up a little. The bed was comfortable. The room we stayed in was a little tired and dated, initially we were very disappointed but it did grow on us. There was not enough storage space or working sockets. Bathroom is very dated with no shower screen, that said splashes from the shower was not much of an issue. The pillows are a bit bulky and hard, would have been nice to have a choice.
- Blain (9/5): Superb - Fantastic hospitality
- Natalia (3/5): Really bad! - Only the location and the girl working there during the morning. The room had a window placed in the interior of the reception hall. No sun at all, living like rats!
The first thing you notice walking the room is the mold soaked in the room making it really unpleasant.
Also the last day I found ants int the strawberry jam.
I would definitely discourage anyone from staying there. 120 euros for that? The fact having a “hotel” in the center doesn’t mean you get to accommodate people in that manner.
- Jim222 (10/5): Perfect hotel in great location - Beautifully renovated hotel in perfect location Modern facilities Wonderful staff Large bathroom with 2 basins Everything was great No negatives
- Elizabeth (10/5): Amazing! I will be returning back to stay. - Everything, especially the hospitality. The room was equipped with everything you could possibly need. Nothing. It was beyond exceptional.
- Brian (10/5): Amazing - The property was exactly what we wanted and needed! The staff were amazing and extremely helpful with all our questions. Though the hotel is near restaurants, there was minimal noise heard throughout the night.
Highly recommend this hotel Nothing!
- Anonymous (10/5): The hotel was really pretty and breakfast was decent too! Maria in the reception was really sweet! Also the hotel is in - The area of the hotel and the room
- Firdous (8/5): Lovely boutique hotel with a friendly and professional team in the heart of rethymno - Friendly and professional team, comfortable room with everything needed and good location. NA
- Terry (7/5): Good - Location The windows were broken and wouldn't close so people could enter and steal easily. No-one at reception. The breakfast was very poor. The breakfast girl was very nice and sweet,
- Eftychia (5/5): ok but expensive - location and interior design the staff was not experienced and the breakfast very basic
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Evgenios (9/5): Superb -
- Alexandros1925 (5/5): Bad choice! - The room had a disting smell of mold
Bad breakfast
No way to get fresh air into the room as the only window was facing the corridor!!!
- Alia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nigel (7/5): Good -
- Donna (10/5): Lovely hotel in great location very friendly welcoming staff - the Beautiful building - and it’s wonderful staff nothing -it was perfect
- Janet (10/5): Perfect spot in the charming town of Rethymno. - Beautiful, comfortable room in great location. Maria at the front dest was so helpful with everything. Lovely breakfast. Nothing
- Julia (10/5): Perfection - It's an amazing place. Mix of modern and historical with charm. Markos, who owns the hotel, is the most charming man. He has built a hotel that seems like it's your own apartment. You come and go as you wish and have the key to the hotel. However if you need anything you can contact the staff and they will help. Step outside, and you have a fantastic range of eateries. To the right is local food, to the left Chinese, Indian and Italian. I can recommend it all. To the left is also a beautiful bar. You are right in the centre of the old town so there are shops. Historical areas and you are less than 5 minutes to the sea front. I've stayed in rethymon 14 times over the last few years and have enjoyed it immensely. However, I have now found my ideal hotel for value, location, and the perfect place to relax in There are no negatives
- Shail (7/5): Good -
- Teague (9/5): Superb -
- Lacey (1/5): Bad -
- Martine (7/5): Great location, but not a luxury hotel. - The location of this hotel is right in old town and our room was very quiet. The front desk reception was very nice. I wouldn’t call this a luxury hotel. Our room was very large but dark. Outside our room was a lounge area where the light was on all night. The wifi did not work. The tub in our room was an old spa tub and the jets were dirty. I found the breakfast sparse.
- Hayley (9/5): Great location in a high quality hotel - Breakfast was an assortment of fruits, meats, pastries, yoghurt, coffee, tea and more
- George (10/5): Amazing affordable hotel in the old town - Beautiful decor
Plenty of character
Spacious and clean rooms
Large bathroom
Wonderful staff and service
Great wifi
Central location, quiet area
Lots of shops, restaurants nearby
Lovely breakfast available
Comfortable bed
Courtyard to sit in to relax Nothing, just wish we could stay longer
- Dawn (9/5): Superb - Location was perfect with vibrant Rethymnon life on the doorstep. Walking distance for all our wishes.
- Rishata (5/5): Passable -
- Terry (9/5): Superb -
- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- Lynne (8/5): Very good -
- Sj (10/5): A charming hotel perfectly placed in the heart of old Rethymnon - The hotel is bright and light, which is unusual because it is set in old stone walls with dark rich wood beams. It has every convenience in the room including terry-cloth robes and slippers. The roof terrace has interesting views over the rooftops. The breakfast is copious! We would stay here again. The host is very attentive and responsive.
- Emmanuela (8/5): charming hotel - it’s a beautiful building
the room is spacious and looks nice
good location the bathroom
- Caroline (8/5): Good value and a great location - Easy to find, central location near shops and restaurants, friendly service. We arrived a bit early and were shown to our rooms immediately. The room was a nice size and quiet. Bed could have been softer!
- Jinning (8/5): Very good - Great location and a very nice room. Breakfast was good. We didn't get any maid service over our 2 night stay. The bathtub had no curtain.
- Ioanna (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect night in Rethymno with my daughter.
Perfect location, spotless clean, all restaurants and bars 2 minute walk, nice friendly staff, felt very safe, hot tub, TV, breakfast.
Zero complaints. .....recommended 🧡
- Eleftheria (10/5): Exceptional - In a great spot at the center of the old town but at the same time really quiet. The atmosphere is amazing as the building is really old and used to be a hammam. The people running the hotel are really kind, friendly and helpful so it made our stay really a pleasure!
- Martin (8/5): Very good - very nice hotel in the old city, breakfast available, room nice only one staff there who hardly spoke English, common area for breakfast not heated. Parking outside old city only, difficult to find and get to hotel
- Catherine (10/5): Markos made us feel like cousins who had come to stay in his beautiful place in the old town. - Breakfast was lovely, with thoughtfully chosen gluten-free breads for me and lovely pastries for my partner. Great coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice.
- Robert (9/5): Excellent - Breakfast good. Staff very friendly
- Panagiotis (8/5): Very good -
- Joanna (9/5): Perfect, centrally located boutique hotel. Very nice hosts. - Very polite and helpful hosts. Breakfast was delicious, room was stunning and bed was very comfortable.
- Ladislav (8/5): Very good -
- Panagiota (1/5): Bad - I recently stayed at a 5-star hotel in Rethymno and was extremely disappointed with my experience. Upon arriving at the hotel, I discovered that the hammam was not functioning due to COVID-19 restrictions. Additionally, the hydromassage in my room did not have any safety protection covers, which was a concern for me.
Furthermore, when I checked the bathroom, I noticed that the wooden panel under the sink had visible mold on it. This was not only unsightly, but it also raised concerns about the overall cleanliness of the room.
During my stay, there was a bar located near my room that played loud music until 3am, making it difficult for me to get a good night's sleep. To make matters worse, the mattress in my room was extremely uncomfortable, and I struggled to get a good night's sleep.
The breakfast offered at the hotel was also not up to par for a 5-star establishment. The selection was limited and the quality of the food was not at the level I was expecting.
In addition to these issues, the noise level in the hotel was very high, and I could easily hear other guests walking by my room. Overall, I was extremely disappointed with my stay at this hotel and do not feel that it was worth the money I paid. The lack of functioning amenities, cleanliness issues, and noise level were all major concerns for me. I would not recommend this hotel to others.
- Phil (9/5): Superb -
- Francis (4/5): We would not stay there again nor would we recommend the hotel to friends. - The hotel is in a good location as are many other hotels in the area. Disappointing stay; the lack luster level of service does not live up to the name or the price.
We booked the larger room for five nights in November and were aware we were paying a premium for the larger room in the off-season. This was largely due to the spectacular reviews so our anticipation of service level was high. The room was large and looked exactly as the picture portrayed. Unfortunately, the larger room lacked any space or luggage racks to store luggage other than one small closet, so suitcases are relegated to the floor. The cleaning of the room ended after the second morning. While we can deal with making our own bed and reusing towels, the garbage can in the bathroom becomes an issue. The roof top terrace is pointless as there is no furniture on which to sit. Finally, there was no option but to eat breakfast at 9:00 am (obviously the hotel’s convenience, not the guests). Considering we were the only guests for the last three mornings, the stringent breakfast time could have been flexible. The breakfast was simple, with no eggs (let alone made to order eggs as the reviews suggested). If additional breakfast items were available, we were not informed of the options. We got more variety at other hotels where the room rate was substantially less. Smoking is permitted in the lobby, breakfast and other common areas. The location of the hotel is fantastic, but this is hardly a unique feature distinguishing it from other hotels in the Old City Centre.

- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely boutique hotel in the heart of Rethymnon, close to umpteen restaurants and shops, yet in a quiet little street Nothing
- Don (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shirley (10/5): Exceptional property - Perfect and very easy to find location. Set in the midst of the bustling, exciting Rethymno in Crete. This boutique hotel is stunning inside and out. The images on booking.com do it justice. Immaculately clean and comfortable. A couple of wine glasses in the room would have been good. Other than that everything was excellent
- Robert (9/5): Nice place, great location, helpful staff - Friendly, helpful host, very nice hotel! Nothing to complain about.
- Maevega (9/5): Very good - Great breakfast. Very good location, in the city center with good restaurants nearby. However it can not be reached by car, since the streets are pedestrians only. Nothing
