• K (10/5): Budget friendly and safe for women. Great place to stay in Varkala. - Safe stay for ladies solo travelers. Room was clean and bed was really comfortable. AC worked well and it was great due to hot weather. Common bathroom had shower gel and shampoo for all guests, which is really rare in hostels. Big mirrors made it easy to get ready. Another thing worth mentioning- Food! Cosy cute bistro on the ground floor with amazing coffee and delicious breakfasts. Ukrainian specials were especially good!

As a solo traveler it made me feel much more safe and relaxed. The hostel is clean, comfortable has AC and hot water which was great. The staff were very friendly and overall I felt like I got much more than I expected for the price They have cafe on the first floor with amazing food and coffee, I spent a lot of time there and met few new friends Nothing really. I had a very good stay

• Hanya (2/5): Not great - Good menu for the cafe downstairs and nice and spacious toilets. The dorms are incredibly claustrophobic, pictures are a total scam. There’s no room for ventilation in the female dorms and it feels like a chicken’s cage. Owners couldn’t even be bothered to introduce themselves, minimum security at this hostel, gate is open all night with people in and out.
• Eva (9/5): Relación calidad precio inmejorable - la distribución de las camas, la comodidad de las mismas y que te dejan dos almohadas. Sábanas nuevas y limpias. Ah! Y que tu cama se cierre con cortinas opacas que te dan mucha intimidad y el aire acondicionado! El baño está abajo y se encharca un poco, pero esto creo que tiene que ver may bien con que la gente en general es poco cuidadosa, algo que no entiendo. Tampoco hay mucha zona para estar y no hay zona para poder trabajar o comer.
• Verónica (8/5): - It’s a lovely and cozy place, perfect for staying a few days :) The main toilet was sometimes a bit dirty… During the weekend, there were many people, so I understand it wasn’t possible to keep it clean all the time, but it often felt like it stayed that way. I also missed having a terrace or some open space to relax.

• Vera (8/5): - The rooms are very comfortable, the general lighting in the room is a little dark but there is a lamp and two sockets by each bed. There was air conditioning in my room and drinking water in the hallway. They give you a toothbrush, a mini towel and a blanket. The truth is that in general the room was very comfortable. The bathroom is in the hallway and is shared with other rooms. The showers are quite decent. They provide shampoo, shower gel, and there are hairdryers. the workers are very nice. also there is a common room with a table with board game books, is located in front of the glass window that overlooks the street. In front there is a local restaurant called Juicy café with super cheap and super delicious food. Sometimes the showers were a little wet but otherwise everything was fine.

• Caitlyn (6/5): Pleasant - The room was very clean and surprisingly quiet (couldn’t hear much street noise). We were grateful for the A/C in the room! Also loved the curtains around the beds and the individual lamps and outlets. Staff were very kind and friendly. The room was very dark (no overhead light) and not a lot of space in the room. For being a ladies only hostel, we found it a bit odd that it was entirely staffed by men and there always seemed to be groups of men hanging out outside of the building. There was also not much of a common area to sit and relax.

• Neridah (10/5): Exceptional - I had the best time at Mellow Hostel ❤️ the manager Navaneeth was so helpful and assisted me with all of my needs, as did all of the staff in the restaurant. The rooms were so clean and comfortable, it was amazing to have aircon. The beds were very private with curtains. Very convenient location close to north cliff ☺️ the food is amazing!!!!!! N/A
• Shazmin (10/5): It’s probably the best hostel I’ve stayed in however needs traditional food. - The beds were comfortable. Great working WiFi. AC was working. They have privacy curtains and lockers in the room. Staff are very friendly and can guide you to activities in the area. More traditional food needed.
• India (3/5): They kicked me out after overbooking the hostel - Nice location and cafe. Bit pricey… They overbooked the hostel so I had to leave after the first night. The bed was dirty and the doors didn’t lock. All women and felt safe but didn’t love the fact that they kicked me out and placed me in another hostel that was mixed… which I wasn’t happy about.
• Tamara (5/5): Passable - i would love to give this hostel 10/10. it’s at a very good location, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. the rooms are clean and spacious and so are the common areas and bathrooms. the restaurant is affordable and has a nice selection. me and some other girls staying in the hostel unfortunately got bed bugs. that’s why although i really enjoyed my stay at this beautiful place, i wouldn’t go back.
• Julia (8/5): A lovely stay - The staff are really nice and helpful, gave us lots of recommendations for Varkala. The restaurant is really good very good breakfast options. The location was convenient. The rooms could use a little more light as one side doesn’t get any natural light so some stronger lights would be useful. It would be a bit more convenient if the shower was also in the en-suite bathroom instead of the communal shower area

Alina helped me with everything from the beginning to start (even helping to book a train) and was so warm. The location is great and they have cafe downstairs. I cannot find a fault in this stay, i highly recommend this place!

I had to cut short my trip by 3 days, when I applied for refund, they won't accept the refund saying booking.com (from where I got the hostel confirmation) would deduct commission for them. Hence the extra 2k balance is still not refunded even after multiple followups! Okay. U would meet really good people here, but the lighting of this place sucks, followed by no drinking water or anyone to contact for emergency at night.
• Alexandra (10/5): Amazing place! Didn't want to leave - Amazing place! It was the first time I stayed at the hostel in India, and I truly loved it! The stuff were always polite and friendly, the place is very stylish, and the restaurant downstairs & Inda Café (also belong to the owners) offer a great variety of local and European food. Just wow! I wish I could have stayed longer! It's quite dark in the rooms, as the main light is dim, so I had to use my flashlight to find anything. The restaurant downstairs has almost no coverage from the sun and only one fan, so it's hard to sit there during the day. For anyone working remotely: there are frequent power outages in the area (sometimes several per day), so there's either no Wifi or no electricity. It's hot to work from the common area upstairs or at the restaurant downstairs - I ended up working from bed to escape the heat and the street noise.

• Rose (2/5): Don’t Believe the hype - The location was beautiful, very lush green surroundings with the beach less than ten minutes walk away. 1 Reception on arrival-the receptionist seemed to be studying and made me feel like I was disturbing her work. 2 I was placed in a bunk with no privacy curtains to the front and when I enquired again the receptionist was dismissive and told to use another bunk. The next after I returned for the day I found that the privacy curtain had been installed so I asked the receptionist if I could move there but she refused. I have knee issues and climbing up and down to get to bed was difficult and uncomfortable. 3 There was none stop music and chats throughout the night even though there is a notice that such things stop at 11pm. Needless to say I finished my stay in another hotel. I would not recommend this hostel to anyone, I went by the reviews and was deeply disappointed.
• Julia (9/5): Quiet and comfy dorm - The dorm was comfortable, mattresses and sheets are perfectly for a good night sleep. Lots of privacy with curtains, locker, light. The hostel is quiet and the shower rooms have lots of space. The location is perfect. The staff was not informed about bookings or payment. It was hard getting any information. If you need to pay with card it takes waiting time so let them know in advance. Sometimes they forgot to clean the toilet in the shower area.

• Marianna (10/5): I had a great experience! - I loved every minute there! Beach is 5 minutes walk from the property in a friendly neighborhood. Eventhough hot water was not provided, I didn't miss it at all. Cold shower was refreshing and cooling.The young lady in the bistro was very friendly and helpful. Indian food is too hot and spicy for me, so I was glad to have the option to choose some more european meal in the bistro. It was yummy! Thanks for everything! There was none.

• Joy (8/5): An excellent place with a caveat. - This place is excellent. It’s clean, close to the beach, and the Ukrainian and Indian food is excellent. The reason it didn’t get 10 stars is because I went to bed with cigarette smoke smells in the room from the sitting area and woke up with cigarette smell from somewhere outside. That’s never okay.

• Bettina (8/5): Great experience, good place, good people :) - It was great to be in a women’s only hostel. The vibes were nice. Good aircon, locker with a key, bed with curtains, plug and light for yourself. Our room had a restroom inside which was really convenient, but no shower. To shower you had to go downstairs. There were several showers, good light, sinks, hairdryers… everything was really good, clean, comfortable. There was also a very nice and yummy cafe downstairs. And two little markets next to the hostel, and loads of tuktuks outside. Really convenient. The room was quite small. We were lucky and it was only my friend and me, but there were two more beds. With two more people it would have been really really tight.

The shower room was downstairs. I was traveling with my elderly mom and it was not very accessible to go down the stairs to take a shower.

• Sasha (10/5): A peaceful welcoming haven😌 - The hostel is designed very well, the beds have privacy and are comfortable. Lots of good showers. Great convenient location, short walk to the cliff and beach. The cafe downstairs offers a delicious variety of food. I had initially booked five days and after the first night asked if I could stay the month. The staff was amazing! It felt like home, by the end of my stay, I was sad to leave. I highly recommend Mellow Ladies Hostel. I loved everything about it!

There should be dorms like this everywhere. - It's a really great dorm. super clean, comfortable, and maximum privacy thanks to very clever solutions. Perfect for traveling solo. An additional advantage - very good food and well-kept common areas. I highly recommend this place. The Indian roommates set the AC to 16 degrees!!! If the AC had less temp , they would probably turn it on less... It was extremely cold in the room. We could try to regulate this somehow.

They clean the dormitory and shower room everyday😊I liked the location cuz I visit the temple next to the hostel was nice especially I could know the big festival and walk to the cliff in 5min!! I highly recommend this place. I wish they could clean the shower room twice a day. This is not their fault which is more like how people stay there to use the facility…. The young girls stayed and they talked loudly and shout the doors many times in the late night that bothered other people’s sleep. I hope this was only that particular time.
• Wontloversrevoltnow (10/5): Cosy and lovely - The vibes were immaculate; it's a quiet and lovely place, comfortably arranged. Lots of privacy in the beds; big lockers; nice staff. Location is a few meters away from the main area so it's quiet at night, but it takes like 2 min to walk to the busy areas. AC works very well. The one super weird thing is that the showers are out of the way, but it's not very bothersome. Very limited common areas in which to chill or chat with other travellers.

• Jodie (10/5): The best hostel I’ve stayed at in India! - The best hostel I’ve stayed at in India. The beds were great, with two comfortable pillows and curtains around the sides for privacy, which helped me to sleep without being disturbed. The addition of two towels and a dental kit to use while I stayed as no extra cost was a lovely and much-appreciated touch. I liked that the showered were separate to the room…the water pressure was excellent! The staff were also very friendly and helpful. I can’t think of anything I didn’t like.

• Cat (7/5): Great location! - Great location opposite my favourite cafe. Very clean, towels and blanket provided. Aircon worked well. Locker with key for valuables. Two international plug sockets in the bunk with a small reading light. In the 6 bed dorm there was very limited space to stand up, also minimum space for bags. There was no light at my side of the room so I had to use my phone torch! There was only one other in the room so it wasn’t so bad! Not really any outdoor communal space. Smoke from a fire through the night came into our room which made me feel unwell.

There is no shower in the room and I have to go down a long stairs to shower. There were a lot of bugs under the stairs because it was an untidy garden. No card for payment, Only cash

• Desiree (10/5): Very and quiet - The room was very relaxing. The beds were very comfortable. Towel, toothbrush, and bottle water were given at check-in. The WiFi was good. I had a very good night sleep with the AC. The food in the cafe downstairs was very good. They told me cash only even though on my booking sight it says they take credit card. It was remedied by me going to a hotel sister company and paying them for my two nights stay.
• Aparna (7/5): Good - It is clean. Feels safe since it is an all women's hostel even run by women and being a solo woman traveller it felt very safe. It is a well maintained place. The linen was clean and there is a power plug next to your bed which is very convenient and as with most hostels has a locker to store the luggage. The Air Condition was working well which makes a world of difference when in Kerala. The shower area is located in the basement and it quite a walk from the room. When I took a room with an attached toilet I was expecting the convenience of having a shower too. But the toilet has no shower facility and in order to take a bath one must carry all the stuff and walk down to the basement area which is a pain.

The rooms are well kept and spacious enough. Other amenities are also good. Clean bathrooms and nice common area. Felt very safe and comfortable. Highly recommended, especially for girls travellings solo! The lighting in the rooms could be a bit brighter...

Definitely the cleanest I’ve stayed at in India and I felt very safe there - has more of a hotel vibe but it was perfect for what I wanted but something to bare in mind if you want lots of socialising. It’s pretty dark in the rooms which is nice for the vibe but hard to see when trying to pack or use your locker! Also just suggestion but might be nice to do something with the roof terrace and make it more of a chill out space with fairy lights, cushions and maybe some yoga mats?
