- Dawn (10/5): - The property was very well setup and the hosts were great with communication. A separate washer and dryer were an excellent find that's rare in Japan. We stayed only one night while passing through as we hiked the Nakasendo sections. I would definitely stay again.
- Tessa (9/5): - Alles wat je nodig hebt, is aanwezig. Een heel leuk huisje.
- Jodie (9/5): -
- Yu Lung (10/5): - 離開時有汽車送我們去火車站
- Elaine (10/5): Lovely house like a home away from home - Lovely place all to ourselves. Comfortable bed, warm house with washer and dryer facilities. The food was absolutely amazing. Akiko's hospitality was outstanding. She even gave us a lift to the station the next day as it was raining and drove back when she realised that I had left something behind. Nothing.
- Sarah (8/5): Large house with many rooms, well located. Kitchen, laundry and the best spa bath! - Large house with kitchen, lounge, and the best spa bath of our trip! (With a tv) good location. House is literally right in the railway line (although windows are double glazed, so not too noisy) Needs a couple of utensils, more crockery in kitchen. Not modern, but comfy.
- Christian (10/5): -

- Cintia (10/5): It was an excellent stay definitely! - The back of the house is the train track, so it was noisy when the train passed by; however, the train doesn't run at night, so the sleep was really good. There are a lot of manga for the guys, many beds for a group, even a jacuzzi bathtub. A yummy breakfast was delivered on a day that was -3 deg C in the morning. A better instruction of how to use the jacuzzi, somehow one of us used the jacuzzi and the control panel in the kitchen talked of what he was doing, so we laughed.
- Stephanie (10/5): Excellent stay- wish we had booked a little more time to explore the area more because it’s a non-touristy somewhat rura - Location was great and the space is roomy and well equipped. The hosts are incredibly thoughtful and accommodating & the place was very, very clean. Others have commented about train or traffic noise, but even as a light sleeper these did not bother us at all. Also, Izakaya Chikara is a short walk and an awesome family run establishment with excellent food and family that runs it. Truly a genuine & unique experience! Nothing! It was great!
- Bastian (10/5): - The house was great, it included some food which was much appreciated after a long day and the breakfast sandwich in the morning was a great way to start the day.
- Anne (10/5): Wonderful hosts . Made us sandwiches and drove us to the station - Great location
- Anne (9/5): We had a lovely stay at this property - and the host was great! - We were given an outstanding breakfast. There was not quite enough room on the couch for all of us - some more chairs would be great.
- Carla (9/5): Great place to stay! - Had everything we needed including a full kitchen, washing machine and dryer. Hosts were great and even provided us with a breakfast pack!
- Annette (10/5): - Super comfortable cottage, plenty of room, and great kitchen area. Everything you need is stocked, very generous snacks. Easy walk through Kiso-Fukushima township to the cottage, lots of sights on the way which we explored later as well. The cottage really isn't far from cafes and restaurants (there is a brilliant Izakaya 3 minutes walk) and several alternatives about 10 minutes away on foot. We were greeted at the cottage by Akiko, she is a wonderful host and very helpful. We were picked up by Akiko and her husband the morning we left. She had fresh sandwiches and fruit as well as coffees all packed so that we could grab an early train.
- Richard (10/5): - Everything. The property is huge and well equipped. Theres everything you could need in there. The shower is great, the bath is great, the kitchen is well stocked wirh tea, coffee and even cup noodles! The hosts are very communicative and kind and even made us some delicious sandwiches. Thank you so much! Nothing. Everything is perfect.
- Chris (9/5): -
- Alex Chin Kuan (9/5): Great place with all you need. - Comfortable unit with the amenities you will need staying at Kisofukushima.
Parking lots are available, though it’s a little further down instead of at the unit.
Owner was nice to prepare breakfast for our last morning before checking out.
If you’re staying here, do visit Kasiwaya Izakaya just a few minutes walk away, it’s great food at great prices, and the yakitori set is a MUST. FYI: The train track is right behind the unit, with trains going by every now and then. It’s not too bad but good to know.
- Grant (10/5): -
- Ankita (10/5): Lovely stay at this homely beautiful property in Kiso - The place and host Akiko-san were amazing. They brought us bento boxes each day and graciously offered to give us rides to the train station on each day of our stay. The place is wonderful, has everything I could ask for right from laundry to a jacuzzi. Loved every bit of our stay and definitely coming back again
- Harshvardhan Sekhsaria (10/5): Superb house and very kind host. - Lovely house and most amazing host.
He was outstanding and really took care of every small detail. The house if perfect for a family of 6-7 people also. Comfortable house and great location.
- Brett (9/5): An excellent place for family and friends to stay with plenty of space an good facilities. - Large two storey apartment house with lots of space for two couples. There was a few issues getting access into the accommodation which required some time to resolve.
- Arlene (9/5): Nice accommodation. 20 minute walk from train station -
- Camille (10/5): -
- Lodewijk (8/5): Leuk huis zeer net. - Erg leuk huis.
- Raphael (9/5): good convenient accomodation - appartment was nice, spacious, and convenient
- Grzegorz (10/5): - Great house. Clean, very functional, and cozy. Parking was easy. Excellent communication with the owner and check-in was hassle-free.
- Eamonn (10/5): -

- Emmanuel (10/5): Absolutly outstanding ! - Everything. Best host ever. Helpful, kind. Place very clean, spacious and well-equipped.
Just the perfect house to stay.
- Barry (10/5): Beautiful house in a beautiful location, with lovely and extremely kind owners! - The owners, Akiko san and Yasou san, are amongst the kindest, nicest, most helpful, caring and thoughtful owners of a house I have ever stayed at. The house is lovely, very comfortable, quiet, lots of space, well laid out, well stocked, and immaculately clean. Akiko san made a delicious bento for me every day. Although I did not have a chance to eat there, they run a sweet little izakaya (in a re-used container!) right next doors. There is good access to great hiking on Nakasendo Trail and surrounding mountains. Kiso Fukushima itself is a very nice little town. And Akiko san was so kind and helpful when I had a medical issue (a broken tooth) finding a local dentist right away (who was also very nice!) taking me to the dentist to make sure I was ok! Wonderful people in a comfortable, lovely house, in a beautiful part of Japan! Highest recommendation. I liked everything!
- Garret (10/5): Lovely stay with a wonderful family that gave me a cherished memory! - The owner was real friendly! She picked me up from the train station and drove me to the house. Later that night she invited me into her house down the street to have a drink with her family! To top it all off, the morning I checked out she made me a to go lunch! It’s real close to the train tracks but if you are on the opposite side of the house it didn’t bug me much.
- Irene (9/5): Superb - The apartment is very well furnished, comfortable, quite and clean. It was larger and more confortable than expected! it is quite far away from the train station and bus stations
- Reinhard (8/5): Very good -
- Daniel (9/5): Highly recommend to anyone doing the Nakasendo trail - The best place I've ever been, an excellent apartment, equipped with everything. The owners were very nice, drove us from the train and back, prepared food for us every morning (sandwiches and fruit, etc.) No complaints at all!
- Cheryl (10/5): This was one of our favourite memories of our trip to Japan. Gracious hosts and beautiful scenery. - What a wonderful stay at Takumisou1. The village in the mountains was spectacular and we spent time just exploring the town and wonderful shrine on the mountain. Akiko and her husband were the kindest hosts and picked us up at the train station, drove us to a local onson and also drove us to a restaurant for dinner.
The house had ample room for our family of four (two boys aged 20 and 22) and my wife and I. The shower and bath were comfortable with lots of space.
Akiko brough us breakfast each morning at 7:30 am and even made us amazing sandwiches on the day of our hike in the Kiso Valley along the Magome-Tsumago Trail. The owners also run a restaurant and hosted our family on our final night. It was truly memorable as we enjoyed our meals, a couple of drinks and had a great conversation with our new friends and hosts. I can't say enough about these two as they treated us like family and we were very sad to leave. There was not one negative thing about this spot.
- Naftali (9/5): Kiso Fukushima - It’s a very nice house a bit far from the center of Kiso Fukushima, but the host will pick you up from the train station and bring you back there.
I think it was an exceptional hospitality in which the host provided breakfast treats
- Kathy (7/5): Spacious comfortable long way out of town limited food options - It was spacious and comfortable though a bit dusty. The hosts were generous and picked us up and dropped us off at the railway station, Most of the bedrooms were upstairs . To access the toilet downstairs you had to go down very steep staircase. Not good for older people.
We were kindly picked up from the railway by the host and then taken to a supermarket so we could buy food to cook our own dinners for two nights. We didn’t know there weren’t any restaurants nearby nor that we had to cook own dinners.
- Eric (10/5): Great host; fabubreakfast; lovely town; loved the Kizenji Temple and its gardens a close walk away. - Comfortable
Great facilities
Quiet
Wonderful hospitality Nothing
- Lara (9/5): Perfect spot to rest up after a long hike - Great amount of space, amazing bathtub. Absolutely superb hosts who gave us free breakfast and drove us to the station.
- Samuel (10/5): Memorable Hospitality - Amazing hospitality! We were walking the Nakasendo route with very little information. Our host provided maps and a guide book (in English!). I’m not sure we could have pulled it off w/o his help. He brought us coffee and a beautiful breakfast and sandwich for the hike. As we left he and his wife came over to wish us a safe journey. Honestly it’s perfect.
- Eric (9/5): A complete experience, we were so fortunate to select this accommodation for our stay. - Very very generous hosts. They picked us up at the train station, gave us a short tour around town, offered to take us to the market. The next day they prepared us a packed breakfast for our train and drove us back to the train station. The generosity and friendliness of the hosts was unbelievable and much appreciated. Loved the accommodation and experience, change is not needed
- Karolina (10/5): The best stay in Japan we had - The hosts are absolutely amazing and kind, they picked up our luggage at the station and we went on our way to sightsee. They drove us to the station in the morning.
The house is about 20 min walk from the station, easy to find.
The house has everything you might need and I mean it, the hosts even left us some ramen, water, snacks. On the morning we left the lady brough us amazing breakfast and coffee.
There is everything you might need to do laundry.
Just a great place to stay, wish we stayed here longer. Nothing to say here.
- Anton (10/5): Amazing! - Excellent host. Lovely rooms. A great experience.
- Sylvia (10/5): Excellent stay - The owner made it feel like my home.
This would be great for a small group as the 2 bedrooms can sleep 3 in each room. I was driven to the station and a delicious packed lunch given the next day. Another thing I appreciated is that I was driven to the local onsen and spent an hour there which was lovely. I was able to have a really good meal in the little restaurant next door which she cooked for me. Really recommend this place. It was a little walk from the station but a very nice walk along the river and get to see some of the town as well. The lovely owner offered to pick me up but I chose to walk which was a pleasant walk
- Elizabeth (10/5): Cozy and comfortable accommodation - We loved this cozy house. We wished the weather was better and we could have watched the trains from the balcony. It was perfect for a stop over on the Nakasendo way.
- Li (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely place run by a very hospitable and helpful couple. It was so sweet of them to prepare breakfast for us and even offered to take us around the place. The place is spacious, very clean and comfortable and had all the facilities we needed including a washing machine and dryer. Nothing - all was good.
- Dominika (10/5): Nice and cozy stay in Kiso Fukushima - The apartment was super clean and comfortable. You have a well equipped kitchen, laundry machine, dryer and even a bath tub. The owners are extremely nice and supportive. They picked us from the station upon arrival. On the way back we wanted to go on foot, but they came to pick the keys and brought us sandwiches and coffee!
- Singh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hilderman (10/5): Exceptional - The house was very spacious. We have 3 kids and we had loads of space. The owners offered to pick us up from the train station and were so friendly!
- Grace (10/5): Like coming back home - Very spacious place with lovely inn keepers Nothing. Place was grand.
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anne-marie (10/5): Beat hospitality in Japan! - The owners are incredibly welcoming. Fabulous communication. They are very keen to make your stay as comfortable as possible and go to extraordinary lengths to show you the area- they will drive you to the Onsen, the supermarket. They arrive with food for you, it was incredible. I’ve never experienced such hospitality before. Lots of room for us and our teenagers Nothing.
- Nicole (9/5): Excellent choice and lovely hosts - The owners of Tokonamiso were so lovely - they offered to pick us up from the station and also made us breakfast the next morning and gave us a lift back to the train.
The house was super comfortable, loads of space - we were just two but it could fit up to 7 people I think. I also used the spa bath which was so nice after walking all day!
- Esther (10/5): best place in Japan. - it was very convenient and comfortable to live in. the beds were soft and comfy so we had an excellent sleep. nil
- Mathieu (10/5): accommodating host, excellent food, in a rural part of Japan for a great price. - great host, she made an effort to communicate with us even though she doesn't speak to much english, she prepared sandwiches for us every day for no extra cost, and prepared us sukiyaki that was excellent and at a very reasonable price plus drinks that were on the house. and the house was very comfortable. You can't really walk around but she will bring you to the train station and restaurants for no extra cost.
- Paola (10/5): Exceptional - Akiko is a wonderful host she surprised us with ice cream. The kids loved the roomy apartment and having their own room. This was a wonderful place to stay run by wonderful people. We had a kitchen to make a meal at home something we were missing. Nothing
- Caleb (10/5): A must stay! - Amazing place! Heated floors comfy beds. AMAZING host!
- Laura (10/5): Spacious house, great amenities, the best host ever - I can not say enough good things about this property, it is a huge space for Japan, it was cozy and warm, it had a smart tv, toys for children, and comfy beds. I was a bit worried about the location when I booked it but the host picked us up, dropped us off, offered to take us to the supermarket and the hot springs and made us a delicious lunch and breakfast so it was not a problem at all. There is also a bus stop right outside. Nothing
- Linda (10/5): We loved it and the hosts were phenomenal! - Our hosts were amazing. They met us at the train station and catered for our every need. In particular one of our group had an accident and needed medical attention. They called the ambulance and accompanied her to hospital, followed by her husband and the rest of the party in the car. We had food in the restaurant on the first night, also highly recommended. Faultless in a word, they couldn’t have done more N/a
- Teresa (10/5): Exceptional - The very best part were the owners, they made you feel incredibly welcome, nothing was too much trouble. We felt like we were visiting friends while we stayed in their house. There is so much space, 3 bedrooms, kitchen, living room, laundry, soaking tub! And breakfast is brought over every morning by the lovely Akiko. ( also would be a great place for people with kids) there is nothing we did not like, wish we were still there
- Julie (9/5): Superb - Great to have our small group stay where we had restaurants close by and kitchen facilities..beds were very comfortable and quiet location. Nothing
- Stewart (10/5): Wonderful hosts in a spacious well equipped apartment - The apartment was so spacious compared to other apartments we have stayed in. The apartment was on the edge of town but our hosts picked us up from the train station (it was pouring rain.). We had a hot spa bath that night to relax our tired muscles. The next morning our hosts brought around breakfast and a sandwich to take with us on the Nakasendo trail which were delicious. They then drove us to the train station to get to the Toriii Pass. The hosts were lovely. Because the apartment was on the edge of town we saw snow monkeys out the kitchen window in the morning. The location of the apartment was on the edge of Kiso Fukushima but our hosts drove us to the station both times. Also because of the location we saw snow monkeys.
- Julie (10/5): Lovely host and a nice homely place to stay. - The host was lovely and very helpful. Also a great cook. We really enjoyed our stay at his property. Nothing
- Sheila (10/5): Exceptional - Helpful hosts. Providing transport, and beautiful sandwiches
- Michelle (9/5): Nice place! - Nice apartment and friendly hosts, comfortable beds and a nice shower. Appreciated the washer/dryer. We only stayed one night- wish it could have been longer. It was a longer walk from the station than we thought it would be. There were no shops and only one nearby restaurant open when we arrived in the evening. If you're walking from the station around dinner time, consider stopping for food on the way. We appreciated the breakfast but it would be great if there was a vegetarian option.
- Jun (10/5): Exceptional - It was a really comfortable and homey accommodation, really enjoyed it. The hosts were really kind and prepared sandwich box for us to take in our hike up Mt Ontake! They were really kind and thoughtful to fetch us from and back to the train station! Highly recommend! Thank you so much for your hospitality!
- Cuc (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast was delicious
Service was exceptional
We never have had the levels of service like this before
A very pleasing experience Nothing that I didn’t like
- Giles (10/5): Amazing stay amazing host ありがとう - Great location and super amazing host who was charming and even gave us a free packed lunch for our walk
Could not recommend highly enough FANTASTIC!!!! All perfect
- Kathryn (10/5): kiso Fukushima - Exceptionally well equiped apartment
Hostess fantastic.
We went to their restaurant next door and had fabulous Japanese meal experience. Highly recommend.
- Angga (10/5): We will definitely be back again someday soon. - The place is just like going home after a long journey.
The owners are super friendly. They picked up us from nearest station, and drive us back the next day.
They have small restaurant two doors away, which worth a visit.
- Sera (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely host, she was so friendly and took great care of us. The facilities were very nice as well. And the beds and bath were a great plus. The kitchen was not very well equipped. We didn’t have any basics like salt or oil and didn’t have many pans. So if you would like to cook I recommend taking salt and oil!
- Lisa (10/5): fantastic place - Lovely house for a family to stay in. Amazing hospitality, we were given lift to and from the station, and our host brought breakfast for us. Beautiful location.
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Monica (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mick (10/5): Great - Fantastic! Super nice hosts, we loved the stay :)
- Elad (9/5): Superb -
- David (10/5): Exceptional - A wonderful little house in the sweet town of Kiso. Incredibly roomy and with everything you could think of. The hosts were so nice and welcoming and had a sweet and warm demeanor.
Will definitely try to stay here again.
- Fujio (9/5): Comfortable night. We succeeded to cook. Owners were nice and brought a Japanese breakfast for all of us. -
- Siu (10/5): It’s really a nice stay, The host couple even personally came to thank us when we left 😄 - Everything: The house is very well maintained and of good quality in every aspect. The host is very helpful
- Shelly (9/5): Best night in Japan due to hospitality of family - Spacious apartment for 3people. Bus from station(blue line) stops literally outside the door.Kitchen facilities good if you want to eat in. 1 bedroom contains 3 single beds
Food in orange restaurant which the owner runs was excellent we all really enjoyed it. However as others have already said the hospitality is amazing .The owners daughter was visiting from USA with her family and we ended up doing Karaoke with the family. It really touched our hearts to share that experience. This was the highlight of our trip to Japan and there has been some stiff competition to get number one spot. All topped off with amazing home cooked bento breakfast which delivered to us the following day
Thank you to Akiko and all her family for a brilliant experience
- Nita (10/5): Amazing stay ! Hosts were very kind - they made sandwiches for us to take on our hike and went out of the way to drop us - Large property - full apartment with bedroom, bathroom, living room, kitchen. Very clean and comfortable. Great TV too.
- Ian (10/5): The host made me feel very welcome and the home would be great for a family for a good base. - The location is on the edge of town in a nice size home with full amenities for a family. The host was wonderful and she also runs a restraurant a couple of doors away, which was very nice. All good
- Jotaro (10/5): Exceptional - Had the most delightful stay at this property. The house was cosy and had the feeling of being in a real home, and the owners were so lovely. They really went above and beyond to make sure our stay went smoothly, picking us up and dropping us off to the station, giving us tips on cool places to go, and she even brought us coffees in the morning and packed us the most delicious sandwiches for our hike. We ate them by the river and it really made our day. 10/10
- Viktor (10/5): Good location, good facilities and great hosts. - Excellent breakfast, and different every day. The host also gave us a lift to the train station when we needed to be there early. They were very friendly and gave us good advice for things to do. It also a great location to explore the Nakasendo route in both directions from Kiso
- Tom (10/5): A house in the hills - Everything, the house was great. The hosts themselves are exceptional, they are such lovely people. They picked us up and dropped us off at the train station and brought us food everyday! They are such genuinely warm, friendly people :) Nothing
- Marieke (10/5): Would recommend it to al of you. It was perfect - Hospitality, kindness, clean, a lot of space, good location, delicious food -
- Lauren (10/5): Very special stay! The accommodation and hosts were exceptional - Spacious, comfortable and extremely clean! Pictures didn’t give it justice. Nil
- Daniel (10/5): Fantastic stay at Takumisou1 - A nice house in an excellent location, within easy walking distance to lots of restaurants and about 20 minutes from the train station. The kitchen had everything we needed to make a few meals, and the washer and dryer were a lifesaver. Akiko was a very gracious host, offering to pick us up from the train station when it started raining and checking in to make sure there wasn't anything we needed.
- Dianne (10/5): Akiko and her husband made their unit super comfortable and they were sooo hospitable including pickup at the train stat - Clean, well appointed with all necessary amenities including laundry detergent, different options for coffee making, super comfy and cozy. Bed was soooo comfortable. Hallway and bathroom are pretty chilly but it didn’t bother me much. Shower area has a heater but it takes a while to kick in. The locked bedroom next to my bedroom weirded me out a little since I was staying solo. Thankfully, no mass murderer emerged from it.
- קידר (10/5): Great experience, amazing hosts! - Great facilities and everything was very comfortable. But above all - fantastic hosts that were hospitable and extremely nice and concerning.
- Denyse (9/5): Welcoming Japanese hospitality experience. - We feel we experienced Japanese home style hospitality by staying at Takumisou1.
The very kind hosts picked us up from the train, and offered to stop at a grocery store so we could purchase some groceries. We were given a thorough tour of the well equipped 2 level unit, and it was evident through special touches that a lot of effort was put into making us feel welcome. A salmon, rice and vegetable meal was delivered to the house, intended for breakfast I believe, but we saved it for a hiking lunch. It was delicious.
A reservation was made for us at an izakaya eatery a few doors down which served wonderful food, nice local atmosphere. The bed was very comfortable and we enjoyed watching a Netflix movie.
We were offered a ride back to the train station in the morning however we enjoyed the 20-25 minute walk through the very pretty town. We didn’t mind, but the unit is at one end of Fukushima town, and the station at the other.
- Sumit (9/5): Cosy stay at Kiso!!! - Very cosy place and lovely host. The place is overlooking a small valley with a train tracks behind the house which our daughter loved. The house is well insulated and has basic utensils to make some food if you want.
- Luzentales (10/5): Exceptional - Everything! The owner is very accomodating. All of us felt really welcome and at-home after a gruelling cycling trip from Nagoya. She goes out of her way just to accomodate all of our requests. Looking forward to stay in their place again soon! Nothing!
