Guest Reviews
- Mariel (8/5): I enjoyed my stay there. - The location was great. It was really close to the city and the bus connection was great. The showers weren’t as clean as I had expected.
- Jennifer (4/5): Wouldn’t stay again - Photos online did not look anything like our room. The shared bathroom was a half bath that was not clean. No one was sitting up front during our stay and seemed confused or unaware that we had a booking.
- Sarah (9/5): Cheap, cheerful and central. A gem. -
- Jill (9/5): very pleasant - great location just next to Mount Eden great for an evening walk to view Auckland and the sunset. good eateries a 5 minute walk away
- Jessica (1/5): Would not stay again. - Good location. Could have great potential with a little love and attention. Poor service. Arrived to be told they were fully booked, even though we had already been charged for the room. Finally checked in 1 & 1/2 hrs later. Then staff had to come get our details as had checked us in without confirming who we were. Room smelt, sink and sheets were dirty and only 1 towel was provided. 2/3 toilets had no toilet paper and bathrooms didn't look like they had been cleaned. One bathroom had big hole in the wall. Parking is on first in first served basis so there are not always parks available. Gap under bedroom door so could hear other guest all night and overall safety and surrounding area didn’t seem that great.
- Angus (7/5): Good -
- Eilidh (5/5): Passable - The property was beautiful, was homely and clean. The staff did there best to sort out issues promptly The room did not look like the attached images, although still comfortable…not what I was expecting. The staff seemed unprepared for my stay despite the confirmed booking so unsure of what happened with this. I understand things happen but they felt very unprepared for me and unsure of how to deal with the situation
- Laura (3/5): I stay in Mt Eden often for work and this would have been a great place but wouldn’t be returning. - Great location No one at reception when I arrived, another guest went and found someone. No access to wifi given and no one to ask during the stay. Shared shower was not cleaned within the four days and had hair all over the drain the whole time. Really dirty. Such a shame because with a bit of effort this could be a really good place. I had booked based on previous reviews which is a concern.
- Beth (9/5): Highly recommend, I will be staying here for all of my future trips to Auckland. - The property was very clean and tidy. During my stay I had a family emergency and the staff were very accomodating and kind, it really made a difference! Facilities are great, and the room is very well organised.
- Karl (7/5): Good - Convenient spot for what I was there for. City centre was walking distance and food places close by. Had the essentials for my stay Quite cramped, wasn't able to get the wifi password till the next day
- Karen (7/5): Ok for one night stay. - There was free parking, and it felt safe to leave my car there. There is a bustop right outside. The Hostel felt clean and comfortable I thought the room to be very basic for the price I paid. $130 a night for a single room with shared bath. Its not super close to anything, so need to use transport.
- Marquez (7/5): Good -
- Jean (1/5): Bad - That they managed to make a room for us as they had forgotten we were staying there, we had booked and paid. The location was great, which is why we booked it. Bathrooms were not clean, it seemed to be a place for more long term guests. They had no room for us when we arrived. The manager doesn't speak English. We booked 2 single rooms, and they have offered me a refund for one room they couldn't provide. I have emailed and rung them without success.
- Reejo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anna (8/5): Great location for eden park. Felt very safe, but cant help motel noise with thin walls. - Nice and clean. Simple motel slightly off from main road. No real city noise. Walls pretty thin. Usual noise in motel and in bathroom next door. Guests were generally quiet and respectful but no soundproofing.
- Crossland (3/5): Poor - Room smelt bad
- Jared (9/5): vaule for $ on this stay - location to city & transport area n/a

- Alison (6/5): Pleasant - It’s reasonably priced and handy for where I want to be Nobody was on reception when I arrived I had to ring the website. I was not given any information at all regarding facilities. Went to a concert and got back about 11 o clock and all doors were locked so had to ring the website number again to get someone to let me in.

- Anna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Atousa (8/5): Very good - There were no slippers in the room or bathroom
There was no heating device, which of course you have to ask for
- Diana (9/5): Superb - Room was clean. Bed was comfortable and super nice pillows. Tea and coffee, microwave, fridge in the room also use of kitchen for cooking and eating meals.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
Easy reach of city centre by bus. Room was overlooked by neighbouring property with no privacy when curtains were open.
Too aggressive air fresheners made my breathing difficult. If the hotel is clean, it doesn't smell badly so you don't need to fill the air with chemicals.
- Robin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alan (8/5): Very good -
- Laurene (8/5): Comfortable, friendly , meet my needs:)( - Spotlessly clean I biked
not realising it was shared bathroom. When I phoned they immediately gave me an upgrade :)) In the morning there was no hot water in the unit so
I did t get. shower. However rune the manager check as i was leaving it had come through. May have to run longer.
The unit was around the back and not much sun. Just little things but overall
it was perfect for my visit.
- Lena (10/5): Perfect stay for this level of money, suits for solo-travelers, business trips to Auckland - Very polite and friendly staff)
good living and kitchen share space
new furniture, renovation was done last year
location - 5 min to Newmarket by car
Value for money isolation is average, for me it is ok, but someone can hear noise outside
- Ian (9/5): Good quality, good value accommodation from nice people - This is basic, good clean accommodation.
I used the commonn area a lot and that worked well.
One if the plug points didnt work, they provided an extension.
They also helped with a computer cable adaptor when I needed on.
Very friendly ....could have had real milk for tea and coffee
- Jorquiera (10/5): Exceptional - All good again .
- Jorquiera (10/5): Exceptional - Second time: all good .
- Gail (10/5): Fantastic. Loved it. - Location
- Nynske (8/5): Very good - Location, cleanliness and comfort of the bed. Great stay and location to a concert.
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bartosz (10/5): Exceptional - Helpful personell, great location near Eden Park. Very clean place, nice bathrooms (many to choose from), comfortable beds, sink in room, fridge. Great place to stay while in Auckland:)
- Tina (3/5): Never again - The location was the only thing we liked. Reception was empty took ages for someone to come, with no bell to alert we were there. Upon leaving I just left the keys on the counter as there was no one around. The cleanliness left a lot to be desired, everything felt dirty, there were hairs in my bed. Before my booking I attempted to cancel one of the rooms as it was not required, however the due to the language barrier I was unsuccessful, and my payment was taken out before it was due. Not happy.
- Denise (8/5): Easy stay - Parking is so easy and centrally located Room wasn't ready when arrived but they were working on it. Fully booked for a concert
- Natalie (8/5): Perfect for what we needed. Thank you 🙏 - So close to everything especially eden park - 25 min walk Property was great - They were still getting set up I think so little things like towels and mugs we asked for. But they provided without any hassle.
- Shannan (9/5): Superb - The staff were friendly, very clean, and the bed was comfortable. It was nice and quiet. Slight communication barrier but we managed to talk with the help of google translate.
- Tamsin (8/5): Great location - The check in was easy and the location was perfect for my needs. The bathrooms were amazing and better than expected. The room was large enough and had everything I needed for a night. There is very little sound proofing and another very inconsiderate guest was on the phone until 04.40am which kept me awake for hours so didn’t get much sleep. Also because I was awake you can hear people coming and going from the bathroom.
I would still stay again due to the price and location.
- Elyse (8/5): People are kind and was very private - The people were very nice and privacy was great Nothing
- Sarah (5/5): Budget accommodation with off street parking for a late night sleep after Eden Park event - Walkable distance to Eden Park and Dominion Road. Off street parking. Affordable Portacoms behind a residential facility. Difficult to find entrance. Poor shower drainage. Bathroom cleaning could be improved. Ceilings beginning to grow mould due to poor ventilation. Shower components coming off the wall.
- Melanie (7/5): Overall it was good for one or two nights. - It was in a good location for our stay for one night I thought it was a little bit run down and the bathrooms and one of our rooms weren’t that clean. They needed a good clean around the window sills etc Other guests staying in the lodge were noisy.
- Lily (8/5): Great staff , value for money and clean - It was great location for where we needed to be for the Pink concert No signage out front to let you know where it was
- Lincoln (5/5): Passable -
- Kurt (9/5): Superb -
- Aye (9/5): Superb -
- Bruce (8/5): Very good -
- Jorquiera (10/5): Amazing people - I think they are some of the best people who have treated me in my travel life. Peter very friendly and the other boy the same. greetings to them Although they apologized, they were building next door and it was a bit noisy. But otherwise, everything is fine.
- John (7/5): Simple, clean, quiet and secure. Basically like a hostel with shared facilities and seperate rooms. - the place is exactly as advertised. Simple, clean, quiet and secure. Basically like a hostel with shared facilities and seperate rooms. Very good off street parking, seems very secure for a city location. I will use it again.
- Beth (10/5): Amazing staff, great facilities, home away from home. - Amazing team! The staff were so nice, facilities really good. Big showers and bathrooms, and rooms felt really cozy. Super big modern kitchen open plan with the living/eating space and generally just had a very nice vibe. As a solo female traveller I would really recommend it as a place to stay. -
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Polina (9/5): Superb -
- Alison (7/5): Enjoyable stay. - Clean tidy reasonably priced. Very noisy students living next door.
- Michael (7/5): Good -
- Davorin (8/5): Very good -
- Robert (9/5): Thanks for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. - Comfortable and very clean and tidy with heating or cooling available in the room and a microwave and tea/coffee making facilities. Good cooking and eating area and nice lounge area.
Very clean and tidy.
Staff helpful and kind.
Happy to stay again.
Just a hint for others who might use the buses to get there and not really an assessment of the property or otherwise: the bus that stops nearby does not go directly to or from the city centre from the road outside the lodge- you can catch the Route 25 buses which stop opposite Ficino School in View Rd coming from the city or round the corner in Esplanade Rd if heading towards the city. No problems to report.
