Guest Reviews
- Bernhard (9/5): - Very nice clean room with an fantastic view
- Wolfgang (9/5): -
Rien
- Robert (9/5): A wonderfully relaxing stay with beautiful views over Akagera National Park. - We had a wonderful stay, the views, food, rooms and staff were all really excellent. I would definitely book again next time I go to Akagera. There was nothing at all, it really exceeded our expectations actually. A friend had recommended it and we were really pleased.

- Ronnie (8/5): Peaceful place with views! - Nice staff, breakfast and views! The place feels new and fresh. Can recommend the massage for a reasonable price.
When one of us got sick and we had postpone our safaritour for one day with very short notice there were no hazzle at all. Thank's for that!
Our safariguide Chris was a pleasant guy. Spoke good english, good kwowledge about the animals we saw and always with focus on the customer. Thank's Chris! The beds are very hard. Wifi could work better. Not much to do on the site except dining, enjoying the views and reading books. But if you want a little more activity around you I'm sure that the staff will help you with a driver to the nearest village.
- Loni (10/5): -
- Jan (10/5): - Best location and view I had in any hotel for years
Great breakfast
Great dinner for good value
Location
Very nice and new
The best one in Rwanda so far
Very good value for money
Very nice staff I would prefer softer mattress, but its a matter of preference
Wifi could be better in lodges

- Gary (10/5): Just the views are worth staying and the shower is magic on top - The room was excellent and the shower would have to be the best shower ever. Amazing views from shower, room and veranda. Exceeded my expectations by a mile!! And the staff were wonderful. Excellent location for Akagera National Park. Nothing to dislike only love for this Lodge
- Danielle (10/5): Beautiful place! Clean, friendly and kind people. We loved it! - Lindy and Julia were so helpful and friendly! They were very accommodating.
Our chef was wonderful too! Such a beautiful place to stay. We would love to come back again! Bed was a little too firm for me personally but otherwise everything was great!
A recommander 😃
- Jonathan (10/5): - The breakfast was exceptional
- Manoj Arthur (10/5): An absolute gem of a lodge overlooking Akagera National Park - Absolutely everything was just perfect. The smile of Julia and Oriste , they went out of their way to help us ! The food was delicious and I cant find anything to complain about. Only recommend For me its not a problem, but the short climb up or down from the reception to the rooms (cottages) could be a bit challenging for people with knees or arthritis problems. Otherwise its impossible to find fault
- Claire (10/5): -
- Justin (10/5): Great for a relaxing and quiet getaway - The views are amazing and love the more intimate scale. The staff were amazing, too. There wasnt anything I can think of. I suppose there could have been more common/gathering spaces on the property beyond the individual rooms or the bar/restaurant. But it was a solo/getaway trip so I didn't really care to do that anyway.
- Manuel (9/5): - The location is amazing, overlooking the park and just a few minutes away from the main entrance. The rooms are absolutely amazing. So spacious and very stylish and modern decor and finishing. The shower offers a view over the park which is amazing. The bed is huge and probably one of the most comfortable ones we've had in all of Rwanda. We'll be back. Breakfast was a very basic for the price we paid.
- Krista (10/5): Absolutely stunning place! Amazing rooms and lovely staff - Beautiful property, stunning views and very peaceful
- Yuzo (10/5): The best accommodation in Rwanda - View and location, warm reception and hospitality, quality of service and comfort. Not much

- Bonita (10/5): We had a fantastic stay at Ihema Lodge. The staff was so kind and attentative. - The ambience of the place. Good food and very nice staff.
- Thierry (10/5): - Tout.
- Daniela (10/5): - Grosszügige, moderne, saubere Zimmer mit fantastischer Aussicht.
- Marine (10/5): Breathtaking view, cosy cottage, quite and relaxing place, very kind and helpful staff, great food - The amazing view and the serenity
- Lena (10/5): -
- Fabio (10/5): - Posizione, camere bellissime, pulitissime. Panorama mozzafiato.
- Heather (10/5): We were in Rwanda for four weeks and this was by far the best accommodations, staff, food and location - Everything! The location. The modernness. The cleanliness. The privacy.
The staff was absolutely amazing. N/A

- Olivier (10/5): Rustic charm with upscale comfort and breathtaking views - highly recommended! - We had a wonderful stay at Ihema Lodges! The location is stunning, set on a mountain overlooking Lake Ihema with incredible sunrise views and fresh air. The bungalows are well spaced, giving a real sense of privacy. Ours was rustic yet upscale, very clean, and the shower with its large window felt like being outdoors. Staff were welcoming, and we even met the owner, Stéphane, who was very kind. The recommended park guide, Saidi, was knowledgeable, punctual, and great company. Meals were fresh and tasty, with a nice farm-to-table touch, and breakfast was good. Compared to other options in the park, the value here was unbeatable—truly the best balance of comfort, price, and experience. Highly recommended! “Honestly, everything was great—the only downside was that our stay felt too short! If anything, perhaps a little more variety at breakfast would make it perfect.”
- Matthew (8/5): -
- Yuzo (9/5): Unmatching experience - This is our second visit. Compared with the first, the dining menu has enriched very much with a talented cook. The WIFI in the room were in good condition. And the view from the rooms were unchanged breathtaking. Maybe it would be nice to put numbers or names for each rooms so that we can easily remember which room we are staying or stayed.
- Amini (10/5): Amazing - The service, the location, the cleanliness, all was top top.
I loved and enjoyed everything about this place, staffs are so respectful and friendly. At the same time professional. The food was so awesome, you get to be asked about your breakfast preferences a night before.
It was just too good and the price are so reasonable in all angles.
Definitely recommend the place. Nothing
- Meghan (10/5): Amazing-Highly recommend - The location was exceptionally beautiful. The view of the lake and the sounds of the birds in the morning were so relaxing and peaceful. The lodges are spacious and clean. The bed was firm and comfortable. The shower is amazing. The temperature was a bit cooler because you are up higher and there was usually a slight breeze. The back decks are private. We slept with the window shades open to view the sunrise and it was gorgeous. I would advise against leaving any windows open at night. There are baboons in the area which we got to see one morning. They didn’t bother us at all while we were in the lodge.
Our safari company Silverbird tours picked us up and we were very close to the entrance of Akagera Park. It was lovely to be dropped off so close to where we stayed after a long day of exploring the park.
And the food was delicious! The staff was super nice and friendly. I’d highly recommend this place. The stairs down to the lodges are many. Not a problem for us but they could be if you are older or have mobility issues. It was quite a trek up and down but well worth it if you’re fit.
- Yuzo (9/5): Clean, comfortable and cozy overlooking the African horizon. - This is our second visit. The view overlooking the lake and horizon is breathless. The sunrise seen from our cabin is unforgettable. The dinner menu has been enriched and the chef did an excellent cook. The reception remembered us after coming back after one year. Nothing much.
- Mikkel (9/5): A relaxing place of Nature and simple beauty. - The fantastic view is complimented by the simple but very beautiful design of Ihema lodges.
Rooms are comfortable but still everything blends well with Nature. You will see many colourful birds there.
We recommend the grilled fish in the restaurant.
- Lise-laure (10/5): Breath taking lodge - Literally.. everything!!! Quiet, fabulous, gorgeous, clean, simple but luxury. Amazing team! Nothing
- Jurgen (10/5): Exceptional - I had a fantastic solo stay at Ihema Lodge. The bungalows are beautiful with breathtaking views from the bungalow and restaurant!
The staff were incredibly friendly, and the chef deserves a special mention, his food was delicious, and he’s truly a wonderful person. Highly recommend this place!
- Anthony (8/5): Beautiful view over Ihema lake from spacious and private lodges - Comfortable and spacious lodges with a wonderful view over Ihema lake. Nice outdoor dining area. For some reason, the menu seems to be Thai-influenced despite there being neither the expertise nor the ingredients to prepare such food. People don't visit Rwanda to eat Thai food, especially when it doesn't taste like Thai food. International visitors want Rwandan food
- Marie (7/5): We enjoyed the view , the diner and the design of the room We think breakfast could be improved . We could not get an - The view and the designs of the rooms , diner was also good and staffs are very friendly Breakfast could be improved !
- Jane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kenneth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Adrian (10/5): Amazing stay near Akagera National Park - We’re so happy we chose Akagera Ihema Lodges for our stay near the park. The view over the lake is simply unbeatable, and the setup of the cottage—with its walk-in shower and peaceful surroundings—made it the perfect place to relax.
A big thank you to the amazing staff, who took such great care of us. They prepared breakfast boxes early in the morning for our game drives and served delicious meals each evening. Their kindness and attention to detail really made our stay special.
Although we spent three nights here, we feel like we barely scratched the surface of how beautiful and peaceful this place is. We’d love to come back and enjoy it even more.
- Tikvah (10/5): My stay was truly unforgettable, surrounded by beautiful nature, excellent food, and warm hospitality throughout. - I liked the peaceful atmosphere and how close the lodge is to nature. The sunrise view over Lake Ihema was absolutely perfect — it felt like something out of a dream. I also really enjoyed the nature view; i could see beautiful landscapes in the park and birds right from the property, which made the experience even more special. The combination of comfort, nature, excellent food, and warm hospitality made this stay unforgettable. Honestly, there was nothing I didn’t like. Everything met or even exceeded my expectations — from the views to the service. It was a truly wonderful experience.
- Victoria (10/5): Absolute perfection - It was like paradise here. Our superior bungalow was gorgeous and huge, and our private patio offered a breathtaking view over Akagera National Park. I felt like I could see all the way to Tanzania. The decor was superb: all new but with a traditional style. Everything inside and outside was so well designed, with impeccable attention to detail. (like, fairy lights illuminating the path to our lodge at night, and a fellow who washes your car every night.) Their rain shower is the best I've ever experienced. We took all of our meals (breakfast, dinner, and lunch-to-go) from their lovely onsite restaurant, which is run by a great chef who was professionally trained at a culinary institute in Kigali. I'm so glad we were able to spend two nights here. I wish it had been a week. I do not have enough words to describe how incredible this place is. We were a family of three and despite that they are set up for double occupancy, they arranged an extra bed for us so that we could stay together.
- Shikha (10/5): Exceptional - Everything Nothing
- Seraphina (10/5): Exceptional - The room was simple but beautiful and had a overhead view of the nearby lake. The staff was wonderful and very helpful. They accommodated us by allowing us to have our dinner in the room on our first night and also prepared packed lunches for our day in Akagera. The food was also all amazing! Finally, I want to address a moment of superior hospitality from the staff. The night before checkout we realized the shower was only giving cold water. We informed staff the following morning and they worked for about 45 minutes to make sure the hot water came back on. I sincerely appreciate the care they gave on this experience. I would recommend it to others.
- Muhirwa (10/5): New property, modern and class - New property, modern and class Tv for room if possible !
- Kaggwa (10/5): Beautiful Lodge with Stunning Views and Warm Hospitality Near Akagera - We had an amazing stay at Lake Ihema Lodges and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Akagera area. The lodge is set in a beautiful, peaceful location overlooking Lake Ihema, offering breathtaking views, especially during sunrise and sunset. It was the perfect spot to unwind after game drives in Akagera National Park, which is only a short drive away.
The rooms were spacious, clean, and very comfortable, with a lovely natural style that blended perfectly with the surrounding environment. We appreciated the attention to detail, from the comfortable beds to the private balconies where we could sit and enjoy the stunning views.
The staff at Lake Ihema Lodges were incredibly welcoming and went out of their way to make sure we felt at home. Service was attentive but never intrusive, and we truly felt cared for throughout our stay.
The food was a real highlight — fresh, delicious, and well-prepared, with a good variety at each meal. Dining with a view over the lake made every meal even more special.
We also loved the peaceful atmosphere at the lodge. It was so relaxing to hear the sounds of nature all around — birds, hippos in the distance, and the occasional rustle of wildlife. It really made us feel connected to the beautiful landscape.
It was the perfect mix of comfort, nature, and warm hospitality. We left feeling refreshed and grateful for the experience. We would definitely return and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable stay near Akagera National Park. N/A
- Kabanyana (10/5): Exceptional - I stayed at Akagera Ihema Lodges and had an absolutely amazing experience. The property itself is stunning well-maintained, peaceful, and perfectly located for a relaxing getaway.
The food was fantastic from start to finish. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were all delicious, fresh, and well-prepared.
A special shout-out to Landrada and Julia, who went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. They were incredibly friendly, professional, and attentive. truly outstanding staff members who made a lasting impression.
The cost was very affordable, especially considering the quality of service we received. My three business partners and I were all extremely satisfied with the overall experience.
I highly recommend Akagera Ihema Lodges for anyone looking for comfort, great service, and a memorable stay. Nothing at all
- Wendy (10/5): Gorgeous property, clean and comfortable. Incredible views. Great proximity to the park. - Gorgeous property, sweeping vistas, newly decorated, large contemporary rooms. Wonderful proximity to the park. Beds were incredibly comfortable. Large window in the shower has views of the lake. You can see Tanzania in the distance! Great restaurant with beautiful views from the terrace. Five star location. Don’t hesitate to book. Wish we could have stayed longer. Need signage at the last intersection.
- Toni (10/5): Highlight of our trip, this accommodation is amazing - Spectacular view, clean room, good facilities in room, exceptional staff, wonderful food, located close to Akagera National Park entrance.
- Kaggwa (10/5): Cozy, comfortable, scenic, peaceful, and refreshing. - Spending a night at Lake Ihema Lodge which is perfectly positioned 8km away from the incredible Akagera National Park was a truly refreshing experience. The lodge’s location near Lake Ihema and the park offered stunning views and a peaceful ambiance, perfect for unwinding after a day of safari in the park.
The highlight of my stay was definitely the rooms. Spacious, well-designed, and impeccably clean, they provided a perfect balance of comfort and nature. The décor blended seamlessly with the surroundings, and the large windows allowed me to wake up to breathtaking views of the park. Falling asleep to the distant sounds of wildlife made the experience even more magical. Not to mention the breathtaking sunrises you get to wake up to over the expanse of Lake Ihema.
The staff were welcoming and attentive, ensuring that every detail of my stay was well taken care of. The meals were delicious and thoughtfully prepared, served in an open-air setting that enhanced the overall experience.
Whether you’re in Akagera for a safari or simply looking for a peaceful retreat, Lake Ihema Lodges is a fantastic choice. With its comfortable and scenic accommodation, excellent service, and proximity to nature, it’s a place I’d love to return to. If they could fix the meals into the package, that would be very relaxing and not having to worry about extras upon paying.
- Nils (10/5): Exceptional - We had an amazing time at Ihema Lodges! This place far exceeded our expectations. From the moment we arrived until check-out we felt truly looked after. The rooms were clean and comfortable with nice details throughout. Enjoying dinner with a beautiful backdrop of the lake was a highlight in itself. The staff was very helpful and flexible and made preparing for our safari in Akagera National Park a breeze.
We already miss the tranquility and calm of Ihema and will be sure to return soon.
Big thank you to the staff for creating such a memorable stay!
- Martheo1 (9/5): Lovely Rooms and a special View - Ihema Lodge has exceptionally good rooms with an unforgettable view. Ideal location for Akagera National Park for one or two nights.
- Adam (10/5): Exceptional - Calm, relaxing place close to the Akagera Park. Nice and clean spacious cottage. Very helpful supportive service. Thank you!
- Corné (9/5): Superb - Spacious room and very good hospitality. The ventilation of the room can be improved.
- Ruth (10/5): A beautiful and restful stay with extremely friendly and helpful staff. - Absolutely stunning view over the park and seeing the sunrise from the little veranda was a highlight. The restaurant has a beautiful view and the food very delicious and generous portions. The bed is big and very comfortable and amazing shower! The extra bed/cribs worked well for our kids. All the staff and manager were so friendly and helpful to us all. No area/grass for kids to play (this didn’t affect us as we were out at the national park for the day).
- Andree (9/5): Superb - The view is absolutely stunning and the staff is highly professional and sweet. Thank you Lindy for taking such great care of us!
- Kinani (10/5): Great stay at Ihema Lodges - The staff were fantastic and great, they quickly resolved any issues and super friendly. We shall be back. Nothing
- Claire (10/5): Superb location and lodges with great view on the Akagera National Park. - Very beautiful and quiet place
The view from the lodge ( and the shower !) and the restaurant isbreathtaking
The staff is professional and very supportive and the food is really good
Each lodge is new and clean, large, has a big bed, a big bathroom and a terrasse overlooking the AkageraPark. A discreet gem !
- Jessica (10/5): Exceptional - The staff is very helpful and friendly!
- Mary (10/5): Wonderful Stay at Akagera Ihema Lodges. - We just checked out of the Akagera Ihema Lodge. What a beautiful location, atop a mountain overlooking Lake Ihema. The lodges are new, large, modern and decorated beautifully with African Art. Our lodge had a large balcony/patio overlooking the lake (I believe they all do). You can catch sunrise lying in your bed if you leave the balcony/patio curtains open. It was wonderful. But what really made our stay even more memorable were the two young ladies, Landy and Monique, who took care of everything. They were always smiling and helpful. Landy was on hand at all times organizing everything (including serving the best drinks in their restaurant/bar that also had an incredible view). Monique is also the chef. The food was delicious (I especially liked the veggie egg pad Thai and this morning, a poached egg on avocado toast). Btw, when the power had gone out briefly after a storm, Landy ran down with an additional battery powered light. (The power was restored within 30 minutes). This place is a gem and I highly recommend it. Note: since these lodges are on the side of a mountain, you can have a bit of a downhill/uphill climb via stairs or a ramp so if you have any mobility issues mention it to them so they can reserve a lodge not so far down. We were in lodge #2 and we didn’t have a problem (we are relatively fit 70 year olds). I should also mention that these lodges are outside Akagera National Park and the Park doesn’t permit multiple entries (re-entry). But after looking at the places to stay inside the Park (the reviews as well as the cost), I chose to stay here and would do so again. Nothing
- Guillaume (10/5): By far the best place to stay close to the park entrance - Breathtaking views, beautifully decorated yet simple design, amazing shower with view on Ihema lake, friendly and very accommodating staff Nothing
- Seonaid (10/5): Outstanding - Everything. We arrived and were stunned by the beautiful, enormous room with amazing bathroom overlooking the lake. The terrace was a great place to spend an afternoon relaxing before going into Akagera. Would definitely recommend. The only tiny criticism we could find was that they didn’t have Tonic water for a G&T.
- Yuzo (9/5): Overlooking the Akagera park, watching the sunrise and birds singing. It was magical. - The view from the room facing the east east was extraordinary. Especially the moment of sunrise was unforgettable. The room was clean and well maintained. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Maybe they can add some more snacks such as sandwich and hamburgers in the menu.
- Letitia (10/5): Happy to have discovered Ihema Lodges, we can't wait to be back. - This was our first time visiting Akagera National Park. We were torn between staying inside or outside the park. So very happy that we chose Ihema Lodges. This is a beautiful, small set of lodges (5 in total I believe) with luxury interior and superb terraces with exceptional views. The sunrise was incredible, overlooking the lake and Tanzania in the distance. The food was also great, meticulously prepared by a caring cook. The breakfast was healthy, balanced and different every day. We will come back again, hopefully with friends. Such a quiet, lovely place - a gem, perfect for couples, but also a great fit for families on their "weekend-away" from Kigali.
- Ingela (10/5): Stunning place with great views just 15 minutes from the Akagera National Park! - After three weeks of intensive working in the region I had some days off. Took a chance and just booked what looked nice. And truly, this was such a peaceful and fantastic experience! Great staff, home cooked food with an African-Asian twist. The view from the cottages is stunning. 🌻
- Roderick (8/5): Very good -
- Anne (10/5): Great place with great views - Very spacious room with an incredible view of Ihema lake. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. And Monique is an excellent chef. Great location for visiting Akagera park.
- Steven (9/5): Relaxing and friend atmosphere and would definitely go again - It was a great place to stay and I enjoyed the peace and tranquility. Visitor should be notified. Visitor were wild Monkeys. Found be in my room at one point but I left balcony door opened. So all in all really enjoyed Access to the Ihema lodges need to be indicated more clearly. To get to it you can easily get lost.
- Carmody06 (9/5): New lodge, view, location, recommend - Brand new Lodge overlooking Akagera National Park. The rooms are huge and nicely designed, with a balcony and view. The shower is a dream! The location is great; very convenient for visiting Akagera. They even recommended a guide for us to take to the park and he was perfect (Emanuel).
- Will (9/5): Superb -
- Vincenzo (10/5): A gem of a place! - "Akagera Ihema Lodges" is an absolutely unique, superb place located in a stunning, heavenly location. The rooms (lodges), with a breathtaking view, are extremely clean, very well-equipped and furnished with great taste (the same counts for the restaurant, bar and reception area). All Staff are extremely courteous, very helpful and multilingual (English, French, Kinyarwanda and more). Food is exquisite and coffee is delectable too. An absolute gem looming over the Akagera Park! I will definitely visit again - Murakoze cyane and Congratulations!
- Amy (10/5): Serenity and relaxation in Rwanda - Modern clean rooms with an amazing shower. The view of the lake is stunning. The staff met our every need and then some. We hope to come here again and again. No complaints. Our stay was wonderful.
- Rokhaya (10/5): Exceptional - Localisation is excellent. Staff very friendly
- Tierarzt (9/5): Superb -
- Mira (10/5): I would recommend anyone to visit this amazing place. Thank you so much to all the staff for our incredible time there. - It was so much more than I could ever expect. The rooms are one of a kind, private, tasteful with a stunning view over Ihema lake. The staff at Ihema was so sweet and kind. Nothing it was all top class
- Will (10/5): Fantastic views and beautiful accommodation - Amazing location and view. Incredibly friendly staff and very helpful. We extended our trip an extra night because we loved this place so much!
