Although the air conditioning was not initially functioning well, we eventually figured it out, and it worked effectively. However, I wish the room had a window. I love how everything was walking distance.

- Elizabeth (8/5): - Hotel Vela is a cute and quaint boutique hotel. We enjoyed our room and found it quite comfortable. I did not like having to check in on a computer and not knowing which room was our room. We had to take the keycard and walk down the hall and try each door until we found our room. Another downfall is the upcharge on amenities. They wanted to charge for parking. There were two bottles of water in the room, but they were $5.00 a piece. Overall, good experience, but I would not try and nickel and dime your customer. Give the customer the 50 cent bottle of water as part of your experience.

- Shane (6/5): - Staff at check-in was amazing. The overnight staff was incredibly unprofessional and made us feel unwelcome. When we returned to the hotel for the evening, it was dark inside (no lights on). The night clerk walked outside and rudely asked us if we were staying for the night. When I confirmed that we were guest and checked in earlier, she interrupted me to say that we could not park on the street and that we needed to park in the lot. I informed her that staff/management told is that it was acceptable to park on the street for our stay. She briskly walked back in, turned on the lights, and began to do some work on the computer. Upon entering the lobby, there was still no greeting.

Note: posted signs in front hotel states 2 hour parking only! We were forced to pay for parking directly on side the hotel which could have EASILY been complimentary, because nothing else was.

- Carl (8/5): Gulfport weekend - Air conditioner could use a cleaning in room 12 I'm assuming that's why it couldn't keep up with the heat outside during our stay. Wifi was very weak as well. Maybe it's because of the building. Otherwise, everything else was great. Staff was very friendly, the bed was comfy, room was very clean, towels were high quality. Great location near a bunch of nice eateries.

We have been checked in for 22 hours and easy for OUR stuff to come up missing. We even had our do not disturb tag on the door. Also, you hear all the hallway noise from inside your room. Decently nice looking place but not if you want PEACE and QUIET.

- Jordan (10/5): We were so glad we stayed here! - The hotel has only been open for six months, but has the feel of a seasoned establishment. The fact that it is in an historical building gives it a special ambiance you won't find in a new one. Also, it is located among other historical buildings, and the area seems to be making a comeback, with renovations here and there. The facility was clean; the bed comfortable; the walk-in shower was a definite plus; the bedroom was large and with no carpet, the air freshener was aromatic and not trying to cover up that "old carpet smell" you get in a lot of hotels; and the desk clerk, pleasant and helpful. I do have three inexpensive recommendations, two for the bathroom and one in the bedroom. First, since the lavatory & cabinet are not located in the bathroom, there is nowhere to put personal care items when you shower, so a small 2 or 3-tiered shelf is needed. In addition, the bathroom needs a hook on the bathroom door or wall, for clothing. In the bedroom, a small, folding luggage rack would be helpful. We were celebrating a wedding anniversary, and are glad we came across Hotel Vela. We'll definitely keep it on the list of hotels to stay in, when we travel from our home in Louisiana, to the MS Gulf Coast.

- Mark (10/5): - The Hotel with 16 rooms is very “cozy” and the design of the room reminded us of a stay at the Le Chateau Frontenac. If I had to critique at all, it was the late night music. For a Classy pHotel / Restaurant & Bar more suited for Buble, Sinatra & Connick, Jr, we instead got Beyoncé on a continuous loop! Change the music and place would be 100%.

- Bret (10/5): - This boutique hotel is a combination of Art Deco with Mid-century Modern appointments in the room. It’s like walking into a hotel from the 1920 or 30s expecting a secret door to a speakeasy which actually exists right by the front desk. The room was comfortable with good linens and huge towels in a spacious bathroom. The only negative I could find was low water pressure in the shower, but everything else was exceptional. I will stay at this hotel from now on and enjoy watching the historic district as it is revitalized.

- James (6/5): - This was billed as a boutique hotel, when we got there, there was supposed to be some check in at the front desk with nobody there and on a iPad. The iPad was showing that I owed more money and I had already paid in full for the visit. Thank God, the restaurant manager was able to come and help us because it was wanting me to basically pay double. When we got to the bedroom with a king size bed in it on both sides of the king size bed there was a foot and a half a room is all so the room was actually small compared to the bed. The bathroom was good size and fairly well stocked. I did appreciate that they had some Q-tips in the bathroom which I used, and they came in conveniently. As for the room itself, the person who picked out the fixtures for the room did not take very good care or was not looking to color coordinate to a whole lot. Nothing seemed to match the lamp. One was white one was dark brown off color, black something like that, the stand at the TV was on was wood with metal which kind of went with the one lamp their lights in the room work from several different switches. The the light fixture in the middle of the ceiling did not go with anything in the room. And it was an ornate type of fixture and did not go with the room at all. The room was easy to access, however, it was next-door to the kitchen and the public restrooms and on a Saturday night there was a lot of noise all night long, which made it very difficult to get any sleep. The hotel was Miami lifestyle.
- Ruben (10/5): - This place was perfectly put together, clean, elegant, and the restaurant is next level. Everything we tried I’m already craving again. The staff was friendly and helpful at every turn, they were fully booked but made me and my guest feel well taken care of.
- John (10/5): - This is sure to become the new gem of the gulf coast. Revitalizing the old downtown is going to lead to a new golden age for this area of town. Beautiful, quaint, boutique in style, this is destined to go down as THE place to stay. Plus it’s only a block away from the Amtrak station. Definitely one to repeat.
