Guest Reviews
- Melanie (10/5): Wonderful location, a true hidden gem! - Staff were super friendly
Food was incredible Nothing
- alistair (4/5): Very disappointing, 2 star! - The tree house was wonderful great location, great accommodation loved it! The hotel was in a lovely spot very calm and stylish. The spa was lovely in a great building although surroundings still being developed. The restaurant was lovely well set out and nice tables. Great welcome from reception. The room wasn’t ready! No milk water in the room so had to ask. Service in the bar/restaurant area was shocking! Initially went for a drink and sat outside as it was nice weather! There wasn’t visibility of many staff and those serving didn’t look around to see if people wanted serving. Eventually after quite a while my husband had to go to the bar and ask for someone to take the order!
We then went for dinner, again it took ages for service! When the manager came over to take our order I asked about the menu explaining would like one particular dish but didn’t like taramasalata! He didn’t offer to do the dish without or offer an alternative he just looked at me! His staff which didn’t seem many were running around like ants and he was stood at his podium! The meal was very disappointing! The mussels were like bullets and the fish I had was the size of a postage stamp! I didn’t complain as it was a special occasion and didn’t want to put a dampener on it! But honestly I was shocked at how poor it was. Same for breakfast only 3 tables outside were set up and all the cushions were wet through! It was lovely and everyone wanted to sit outside! Again there was one girl on! She was lovely and very apologetic but obviously service was very slow! However breakfast when it did eventually come was lovely!
- Rebecca (10/5): - What a beautiful hotel. Perfect location from which to explore the surrounding area, but always looked forward to retreating back to this little haven. The food was exceptional, and the terrace for an evening drink was lovely! We hope to be back again soon! My only suggestion would be for guests to receive a 'bill' to sign after each night to keep track of drinks and food, this might have given us some piece of mind during our stay, but such a minor point.

- Melanie (9/5): Thank you - The beautiful design & helpful staff

- Tom (8/5): - Food, rooms and service No real room service or anything in the fridges.
- Katherine (7/5): Lovely hotel; great staff; great location - Excellent quiet and beautiful location .
Staff are very friendly Our room was dark; dishes on offer in the restaurant are overly fussy. Too many flavours in the plate!

- Ashleigh (6/5): Fair but wouldn’t return - Breakfast and evening meal option brilliant
Wildhive chalet great When we arrived after a long countryside hike with our dog we weren’t treated very well during check in. Based on our hiking attire we felt we were being judged and when we asked about the sauna facilities that were not in use ‘we should have known had we booked through the website’ which we hadn’t it was through booking.com
- Annette (10/5): For a memorable experience Wildhive Callow Hall is a must! Will definitely return ❤️ - Fantastic accommodation! We loved staying in a Hive- stunning views from our deck. Very high end fittings within Hive. Everything we could want during our stay. Callow Hall is fantastic. Lounge areas beautifully appointed, the Garden Room Restaurant and Bar exceptional! Staff were so welcoming and helpful. A perfect getaway! Could not find fault at all!
- Sulav (10/5): -
- Ian (10/5): We booked an overnight stay and the hotel did not disappoint, great location and the restaurant had a great decor and vi - Fantastic location with great views, my room was amazing.
- Ivor (8/5): - Very good location with local walks Food, especially for vegetarian was a little below expectations

- Soph Williamson (4/5): A beautiful property with strong intent and design, but the experience currently falls short on exec - The building and design are beautiful, and the rooms felt thoughtfully considered and genuinely comfortable. The porter and cocktail team member were warm, knowledgeable, and a real credit to the experience. The location is peaceful and restorative, which suits the Wildhive ethos well. Service felt inconsistent and at times poorly handled, particularly around dinner and wellness facilities, where issues were met defensively or without follow-through. Food quality and execution didn’t match the price point, and activities such as sauna use and bike hire felt under-curated and disorganised. More proactive, informed service would make a significant difference.
- Tara (10/5): -
- Farhana (9/5): Beautiful and picturesque - Stunning views great decor, beautiful. The scenery is amazing!! And very clean, so worth it Not all rooms have refridgerators but there is a communcal fridge that can be used. No AC in rooms, summer heatwave - can be very sticky
- Michael (10/5): -
- Daniel (10/5): -
- Andrew (10/5): A great place for a relaxing break. Lovely food, good location, friendly and helpful staff - Beautiful stay in the hive. Remote location. Feeling say from it all. Evening buggies very helpful No matches for citronella candles
- Vicky (10/5): Sublime - they’ve created an amazing alchemy here. - The staff were amazing - I’ve never stayed in a more hospitable hotel, where each member of staff was genuinely interested in making your stay perfect. They all seemed so passionate about their roles; I take my hat off to the management/owners, they should be so proud. Utterly minor but the lovely gym could do with a daily check to refill water/put air con on. It was hardly used (but brand new and awesome) which may be a valid reason for the oversight.
- Matthew (10/5): -
- Jennifer (9/5): Amazing hotel in the Peak District - Beautiful hotel and restaurant just outside a lovey town. We had a wonderful stay. Slightly expensive and service in restaurant could be a little faster.
- Laura (7/5): Lovely hotel but the experience doesn’t live upto the price - Beautiful hotel and setting - 10 out of 10. The spa and Natalie (the massage therapist) was amazing. The hotel had ran out of a lot of the basics - slippers/ shaving kits even certain items on the menu and whilst they clean your room nothing is replenished so you have to call and request things.
Most of the staff are fabulous but the folk in the restaurant were not helpful, they didn’t know the menu and couldn’t answer any questions about the menu. You felt rushed everytime you sat down, as youre charged a 10% gratuity fee for every interaction (including pouring a drink) you’d expect the staff to at least be polite.
- Anthony (7/5): -
- Jessica (9/5): Lovely stay - Beautiful property, decor and location with friendly and helpful staff
- Dicken (9/5): Staff very nice, friendly and attentive - Lovely garden room restaurant. Comfortable room. The shower room need a little bit of attention with the grout and sealant
- Clive (9/5): Beautiful hotel in stunning grounds which we found very relaxing - Nearly everything Our room was quite noisy with a loud fridge fan going off during the night every hour
- sue (10/5): A birthday treat to remember. - Beautifully decorated, clean, comfortable and with friendly, welcoming staff.
A feel of luxury but without any stuffiness.
- EzgiMorse (9/5): -
- Amerjit (8/5): A calm retreat that blends beauty with nature. - Great location, beautiful surroundings and setting. Warm and welcoming on arrival. N/A
- Patricia (9/5): Magical, cosy hotel with a lovely atmosphere. - Gorgeous property and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The room was very clean and our stay was just perfect, wish we could have stayed for longer. Nothing, but if I had to be picky I would say it would be great if they had a swimming pool alongside their other wellbeing facilities.
- John (10/5): Comfortable, cozy , welcoming - The food was excellent.. breakfast is super and the two dinners we had were first rate
The staff are lovely
- Ronald (9/5): -
- Paul (8/5): staff friendly and accommodation good nice early morning walk around grounds - did not have breakfast but did not know coffee or tea complimentary ? Restaurant lighting very dim had to use light on phone to read menu
- Louise (9/5): Nice and comfortable - The location and overall country feel of the place, and the local produce. For the price we thought a continental breakfast should be included with the overnight stay.
- Catharine (8/5): -
- Mark (10/5): Perfect short break - The hotel is beautiful throughout. The restaurant room and bar area is a fantastic space. We loved it for a real getaway. The Spa facilities were excellent too. Food was fabulous! Nothing. It is on the expensive side, but absolute quality shines through.
- Bess (8/5): Beautiful rural hotel. Very relaxing with good food. - Beautiful landscape. Good food Would prefer that breakfast is included in standard room rate.
- David (10/5): -
- Audrey (10/5): - Wonderful stay. One of my favourite places!
- Kimberley (10/5): -
- Collett (3/5): Won’t be back - Hive was nice Couldn’t get in touch with reception on 3 occasions in the morning, wife needed an iron, needed a ride back to hall no answer, had to walk back in the mud, missed breakfast as a result, thanks a lot
- Kay (10/5): Perfect - Beautiful building
Gorgeous new Restaurant and very attentive staff
- Chloe (8/5): Beautiful hotel and grounds, with great walks straight from the door - The hotel, lounges, rooms and grounds were stunning - they have done such a great job creating a characterful and cosy place to stay. It was great to be able to use the sauna, and the facilities were easy to find, and everything was spotlessly clean. The restaurant was beautifully decorated. All staff were really friendly and helpful. Beds super comfy, and room was really nice. For this price bracket, I feel like breakfast should be included, and the breakfast portions could be bigger if it stays as a la carte breakfast menu.
The information provided could have been better - for example, it would have been great to get a little information or prompt about the facilities before arriving, so that we knew to pack swimwear for the sauna for example. The staff responding to messages were helpful, but some of the questions I asked could probably have been pre-empted just by providing key information proactively (e.g. re; breakfast prices). The digital check-in seemed like a good option, but didn't quite work for our scenario where I had booked more than one room, and could only seem to over-write the info provided for the first room. Even in the room, there is a fancy coffee machine, but I couldn't see any instructions or even a diagram as to how to use it, and I'm not sure I did it the right way. A quick review of the information that is shared before and during the stay would help us make the most of the visit.
- Tanya (8/5): Lovely relaxing time - The decor and lounges, log fires The big garden room, is spectacular: in the autumn would help to have something to soften it. There was a party weekend with lots of small kids - who were well behaved but there was a lot of noise…
- Basil (2/5): Disappointing - Incredibly slow service from the restaurant and bar.
Dinner of very average quality despite the high prices.
- Dick (9/5): -
- Carole (10/5): - Staff were excellent and went the extra mile.
- chris (10/5): Beautiful and hospital place perfect for an autumn break - Lovely location, decor and staff . Dinner and breakfast were exceptional Nothing except Gym could be better equipped . Stylish but a little more kit would have been welcome
- Rachel (10/5): Beautiful and unique place to stay! -
- Richard (10/5): -
- Michael (10/5): -
- Betty (7/5): A lovely place spoilt by the dining experience and the fact that we were overcharged on booking out - Beautiful place very well looked after The dining room was very noisy and the maitre de sat every one together despite it being a lovely big room with lots of empty tables
- simon (9/5): -
- Gemma (10/5): -
- Clare (9/5): Lovely - I think it's a great place and the dining room is really lovely. It would make it perfect for me if you have a vegan menu. I felt awkward asking which meals on the menu can be done in vegan version and the waiting staff kept having to go back and ask the chef. You could really improve this by just producing a vegan menu. Vegans love lots of vegetables too and always make sure there is protein in every dish whether it's tofu or beans. Always have a vegan soup too so that vegans don't feel like there's only two options for them. We had a lovely time though and we will be back!
- peter (7/5): Not as good a stay as we had expected. - Good woodland position.
Excellent dinner selection. Room was minute with broken window lock.
View was only into a wooded bank immediately at the rear.
Dinner and wine were overpriced .
Lighting in.the restaurant was too low to comfortably read the menu.
- Clement (10/5): -
- Sapna (10/5): Divine, will be coming back - I regularly come to stay at Wildhive Callow Hall, it has never disappointed me once. Breakfast is delicious Be warned, breakfast is not included in the stay, you will need to pay extra. Well worth it though
- Stefan (10/5): -
- Sophia (10/5): -
- Jonathon (10/5): -
- Surahi (10/5): -
- Stuart (10/5): - Fabulous location. Great restaurant.
- Sheena (8/5): Would absolutely recommend for a special occasion - Lovely staff who were friendly and professional;
Staying in a very comfortable hive - cosy and peaceful even when it poured rain through the morning; an excellent evening meal in the restaurant
- Liz (9/5): -
- Karin (10/5): Amazing place to stay. - Delightful property
Exceptionally special place to stay

- Andrew (9/5): -
- Linda (8/5): Beautiful hotel in great location. Staff friendly and accommodating. - Location, friendly hotel, staff very accommodating Small library was closed.
- Moore (9/5): -
- clare (9/5): Wonderful - Wonderful Would have liked a pool too and breakfast included.
- Elaine (10/5): Really lovely stay in beautiful surroundings - Beautiful refurbished hotel / hall just near Ashbourne in Derbyshire, with access to walking in fields/ woodland walls/ outdoor seating/ walled garden and coach house with gym etc Nothing
- Elaine (10/5): -
- Christopher (9/5): My daughter got married there. Consequently I am a tad biased. In my defence, given the cost of everything to do with w - Secluded. Traditional. Uncompromised. Relaxed. Flawed. Stolid. Magnificent. Helpful. Majestic. Bijou. Unchallenging. There are elements of perfection at Wildhive, countered by the retention of features that are most definitely not modern. For me, I found the compromise between the desire to offer all the mod-cons in a building from a bygone era was met perfectly. You cannot live in a castle and expect a 21st century experience. I thought it was, and will remain, simply great. Just keep on doing what you do now. I would have liked a tarmac carpark. The white gravel made clothes and shoes dusty. Wedding parties particularly are arriving wearing their finery. I think the path leading off to the other accommodation and the woodland retreat might also be improved given the ladies in stilettos who seek to traverse it. These are very minor observations to me, a man who merely had to wipe his shoes clean after a trip to the car, but may be more important to others. I would also have loved instructions for the coffee machine. If they were there I couldn’t find them.
- Peter (7/5): We had a good time in a beautiful part of the world - Views, ambiance, garden restaurant, comfortable bed, Not a great choice of what I would eat on the menu. breakfast expensive on top of the room fee
- Gabriela (9/5): Just go! Gorgeous - Everything

- Oliver (10/5): -
- Neil (10/5): - Just beautiful setting, hotel, and friendly helpful staff, particularly Charlie on the front desk Nothing
- Linda (10/5): Another absolutely excellent stay at Callow Hall! - Very pleasant and accommodating staff, so helpful. Lunch and breakfast was excellent.
- Guy (9/5): -
- Jessica (8/5): Definitely recommended! - Lovely hotel in a beautiful location. So quiet and peaceful. Lovely interior decor. Staff were great. We had one maintenance problem with the room that kept us awake one night but the maintenance team sorted it promptly and checked in with us the following day. Will definitely return! Only thing that let it down was we found the mattress and pillows particularly soft. Would be good for future to offer alternative/firmer pillows in the wardrobe for guests who prefer a different type of pillow.
- Tracy (7/5): Lovely place, shame we felt like an inconvenience at times - This was our 3rd stay here. We return because we love the location, the ethos and the quality of the massages . This time we felt a bit like 2nd class citizens. I am an independent travel agent and have previously booked through my agent portal. Have always been made to feel special. However this time I couldn’t beat the booking.com price on my portal so I booked as an ‘ordinary punter’.
From arrival, when our pre booked treatments had been moved without consultation or apology, through to the difficulties in gaining access to a charger for our car primarily because of a Ferrari event taking place to which we were very much second, to another guest who had reserved one of the two available chargers but had not yet turned up to use it, we felt that we were an inconvenience rather than a valued returning guest. Even one of the staff golf buggies took preference in the charging space to us and, no, it wasn’t being charged at the time. We finally managed to persuade Matt to allow us to charge where the golf buggy was but I was then interrupted at breakfast and asked to move my car because the Ferrari guys were getting annoyed that it was taking up a space. None of their cars were electric btw. I appreciate that they probably paid quite a bit more than us for the privilege of holding their test drive event at such a lovely location but, rightly or wrongly, the treatment they clearly expected and subsequently received, negatively impacted on our experience.
- Joanne (10/5): Perfect stay for a get away - Everything about Wild Hive was just perfect
- Angela (10/5): -
- Alice (10/5): -
- julie (10/5): - Beautiful location ! Fabulous facilities great friendly staff The menus and drinks a bit pricey but excellent service
